There are very shopping venues on earth that I love more than Bay Hay and Feed. The nursery is incredible and lifts your spirits. Inside, they have a beautiful Northwest gift shop (where I love almost everything), a delicious gourmet food shop, and an outdoor clothier (in addition to the feed and practical goods of course). We have bought things from all sections and they have been beloved and great quality. We wear their shirts regularly. They have a charming gardening shop as well across the nursery that I'm sure I would love if I was an actual gardener. I bought my husband a concrete cat there once. Lastly, we always start with an Americano or an Italian soda at Carly's. The whole experience is always relaxing and a weekend treat. read more

I visited Bay Hay and Feed Nursery as my first stop on another day trip to Bainbridge Island on 6/9/18. They have it going at this local anchor destination...clothing, shoes, pet needs, a plethora of stuff and things from local purveyors, gift ideas, food/wine, road trip/picnic basket goodies, lovely garden plants, bales of hay, and even an adjacent café. It's not kitchy, it actually functions as a place where locals shop and convene. Every nook and cranny has something of interest - love it! OMG Bay Hay and Feed Nursery even has cute, fluffy, cheepy chicks right at the entrance. I had a surge of endorphins, much needed on my birthday. Maybe I need to get an aquarium and a flat screen that features an ongoing reel of cute baby animals, like these chicks. Best therapy for this overworked, exhausted urban warrior. While the annual Chilly Hilly bicycle ride comes close, most visitors don't make it to the Rolling Bay neighborhood's hub. "Bay Hay", is a Bainbridge Island landmark and a destination shopping spot. An old school mercantile, Bay Hay, is able to meet the needs of traditional island residents, tourists and gentleman farmers alike. We routinely buy chicken feed, plants and gardening equipment and, occasionally, wardrobe items. They have a wonderful gift shop with a fantastic collection of cards and notions as well. They have lately expanded their grocery section with an exceptional array of local meet, produce and dairy products. They also show case an excellent assortment of locally prepared items like jams and wine. If you live here on the Island, you know this place. If you don't, it's one of the few reasons to pay the expense of bringing a car over. My recommendation: make a day out of a visit to this neighborhood. Start out with coffee and a breakfast treat from Rolling Bay Cafe. Take a stroll through the local neighborhood to a water view or beach walk. Finish your walk with a stroll through Bay Hay for post cards and gifts. Then take your post cards across the street and address them while enjoying a tasting at the Rolling Bay Winery. Walk back across the street, post your cards at the quaint little country post office. Then head across the street once more for a home style Italian dinner and desert at Via Rosa. Trust me, you'll be bragging about this day for months. read more

What a lovely little place is Bay Hay & Feed. Just about anything you need for working outside and plenty of options for animal feed. They carry the quintessential Bainbridge shirt here which features any of a number of animals and comes in about 20 color combinations. They have everything from short sleeved baby shirts to big adult sweatshirts and everything in between. A little the pricey side at $14.95 for a regular t-shirt, but it's a good way to show your pride! The nursery area is impressive with plenty of options for foliage depending on what you're looking for and plenty of yard art that trends towards acceptable as there are no flamingo or folk art to speak of. There is sufficient choice without being overwhelming of winter needs from scarves and sweaters to hats, socks, thermal underwear for layering and gloves. There is a great small market in there, a nice selection of local wines, honey and teas, gift items, even tasty treats for horses!! The folks who work there are always ready with a smile and answers for questions (great service!), and while some things may seem a bit pricey, you definitely get what you pay for! read more

I am so obsessed with this place. It's like a nursery, gift store, and farmers market in one! They have great staff who don't mind helping you find an item, providing advise on a plant, or just having a friendly chat. I can't stop eating the local heirloom zucchini squash and was happy to find that they have the squash for less $ than at the Saturday farmers market on Winslow! I grew up in horse country, and sometimes we'd ride our horses (or, you know, just walk) to the local General Store. It had everything a 12yo could ever want (candy and ... well, lots of candy). Bay Hay is like that General Store, but for my middle aged adult heart. I love Bay Hay and feed. It's probably one of the most unique nurseries that I've ever been to. Even if you're not into animals, plants, and all that stuff, their sweatshirts are really, really cool. They also have t-shirts, and overall they're just awesome. I really enjoyed looking at the little baby chickens, which were absolutely adorable. It was also nice walking around and seeing what's here. I don't think that it's very well known, but it's definitely the best place to go on the island. Take your kids, parents, aunts, uncles. Chicks...ZOMG so cute. Chicks are fluffy at two weeks old. Chicks are cute with their little chirping. Chicks make you want to pet them on their itty bitty wings. Chicks make you want to reconsider being a vegetarian, and possibly vegan. If I hadn't been getting on a plane, I so would have taken one...dozen of them home! You can always tell someone from Bainbridge by their Rolling Bay sweatshirt. I come here for fresh eggs, veggies, and meat, but also plants, clothes, rabbit food, chicken supplies - anything. They have great home items and gifts. If you have pets and live on the Island this is the best place to get food and supplies. Growing up on the Island,if you were try to think of what business reflects the heart and soul of the Island, Rolling Bay Hay & Feed immediately comes to mind. Perfect blend of old fashion values and new ideas in homesteading. My mother was a farm girl at heart and loved our trips to RBHF and now 20 years after her passing, her well worn pink Hay and Feed sweatshirts is one of my prized treasures. I really enjoy visiting this store, especially on a rainy day. It has both a nursery and a feed/farm/cute stuff market. A small cafe is attached. So it's the kind of place you can walk around with a cup of coffee and look at all the fun stuff, then remember it later when you actually need something. I've bought several pairs of boots, socks and plants here. I even brought a friend, who bought boots. The only downside is the prices for the clothes inside the shop. In general, they are much higher than their competitors. This is not surprising considering their location and small size. However, I also bought one of the cheapest pairs of boots I've ever used here, and they were one of the best I've ever owned. I wore them for several years working on wetland sites, and they really held up. read more

This is one of the coolest Hay and Feed stores I have ever been to. The main door takes you into the pet section and they have a good selection of quality pet foods. They also have a Carhartt dog bed which is wicked sturdy and will (I hope) stand up to the dirt, mud, pine needles, and leaves that my dogs are now bringing into the house. There is a huge garden section with a myriad of plants and planting stuff. There is also a section of men's and women's clothing, in outdoorsy brands like: Columbia, Marmot, SmartWool, etc. There is a kids section, a sock section, and a cool cards and knick knack section. And, then there is the Bay Hay and Feed t-shirt/sweat shirt section. You probably won't just walk off the Ferry and get here, so I think it's the reason locals love the t-shirts. I was also able to pick up local eggs! Plus if you pay in cash or check you get a punch card towards a cash reward... Lastly, super friendly people, very helpful and well, just plain friendly. Bay Hay, golden hardware store of my youth. The sort of old-fashioned convenience store with an eclectic mix of animal care materials, a few rabbits in cages, BABY DUCKS! ("all girls love baby ducks", james interjects)a gorgeous nursery, galoshes and chickens. i got my beloved pet chicken here, Cheepy. I think you could also order birds here by the box- (one christmas we had a closet full of 20 partridges that had arrived via mail). ah, the long hours i would wait for my dad to drive down sunrise drive to Bay Hay. the place that dreams are made of. read more

First and last visit. Entered the nursery 10 minutes before closing and all the employees where more concerned with getting the hell out of their than helping customers. I get it but when you enter a store and her employees comment "oh God, there still coming in" it simply is not a place you should spend your money. Exit doors where getting locked up before closing hours etc. Too many other great places to spend my money and hopefully yours as well. read more

It's so easy to wander around and stay awhile at this gem on Bainbridge Island. Yes; it's a nursery. And a feed store. And they have an excellent selection of outdoor gear. And hundreds of gift items from local wine and artisan foods to kid toys, coffee mugs and everything else imaginable. A true old-fashioned mercantile. There are a number of small buildings/rooms to explore but don't forget to go outside...wander down to say hi to the baby chicks and to hear the turkeys make themselves known.
