I've gone to this place....since it opened on Jefferson St. Now on Walnut St....I'll sum up my thoughts on the place: - Full Ride Burger: It's still awesome and has a great taste....with the sharp cheddar and bacon topping it off. Oh, the marinated and caramelized onions...excellent. I go double cheese...as it does run off and out of the burger. Now, where this place has ruined the near best burger experience in town: The Fries. They do not do the hand cut fries and that certain seasoning they put on them in the past. The fries were killer and the taste was fantastic. But no....they've gone to some Sysco pre-fab fry....that frankly....is lousy. They potato doesn't even have a real potato taste. My final thought: Go to Lindbergh's for the absolute best burger and fry combo in Springfield. They fry the burger in duck fat - any more questions about how good it'll be?! JOB never disappoints in the Bourbon department. Even when the owner isn't around the bartenders are always knowledgeable. First time coming here since grad school had shut down. I was Looking to fill my full ride burger craving and let me tell you I was pretty disappointed. First off the major price hike from grad school which offered the meal for around $10 bucks has now increased to almost $15 My burger was dry and had almost no caramelized onions. They no longer serve the staple hand cut fries with the meal instead you get some basic generic fries tossed in sugar. You're up charged if you ask for extra ranch, which only taste ok. You no longer receive a pickle slice on the side either. The meal is no longer Plated, but instead laid in tinfoil that sits in a small wire tray/basket. Overall the Famous full ride burger meal carried over from Grad school has changed significantly and has went down in quality and now has been way over priced at J.O.B! We arrived around 4:20 in the afternoon so we basically had the bar to ourselves. The bartender was friendly and very knowledgeable about the spirits. We tried the pizza balls. At the time, they hit the spot, but I probably would order a sandwich next time. The playlist was outrageously entertaining (a mash-up of old time country storytelling---from Johnny Paycheck's "Colorado Kool-Aid" to Cash' "A Boy Named Sue." Super cool and retro! Disappointing from the first bite. I've been going to Grad School/Job Public house for almost a decade now. They had the best burger (the full ride) I'd ever had, hands done. Well, the use too... For my first anniversary, I wanted to surprise my husband with our favorite burgers. And boy, were we surprised! These wimpy ass burgers were half the size they used to be, with no cheese, and so dry that even adding sauce couldn't help. Service was great but the food was mediocre. I ordered the full ride with fries with high expectation it was the same as grad school. My burger came out on a wire tray with a basket of fries. First impression, food looked good. Took a bite of the fries and was not expecting sugar on my fries and then my burger patties were dry. This was not worth $15. Well color me impressed! As somebody who in a past life managed a popular beer bar and now has a job that sends him to a ridiculous number of restaurants and bars, I know a good watering hole when I see one. And J O B is one of the best bars I've visited in recent memory. This is the mother of all whiskey bars, with over 200 options from which to choose. Feeling cheap? Get a $3.50 shot of Old Crow. Feeling like a baller? Get a $70-ish pour of Pappy Van Winkle. There is a small but well thought out selection of seasonal craft cocktails. The moral of the story, is that with their wildly impressive selection of whiskeys, scotches and ryes, there's something here for every taste. And that wall of bourbons? It's a beautiful site. It was slow-ish on my visit, so I enjoyed talking with the bartenders, learning about the bar and their passion for whiskey. Because of my history in the industry, I've ran into many a beer geeks, but I had never seen that level of passion in spirits. These guys are incredibly knowledgeable about their offerings, and love to share that info with their guests. Plus, they're generally funny and great with customer service. And what's more, the decor is top notch. The bar itself is gorgeous, reminiscent of an old saloon. The ceiling is pressed tin and in fantastic condition. The floor is vintage porcelain tile in parts, the rest rustic hardwood. The walls host a number of interesting pieces of art that are whimsical but not kitschy. It's an incredibly masculine but welcoming space, and I love it. If I lived in the same bar as this town, it would definitely become a regular stop. Ah, J.O.B. - Grad School's sexy cousin from Oregon, or something. I like coming here. The ambiance alone is tongue-in-cheek classy with no real evidence of pretention. From the bare-chested mermaid painting at the entrance to the long, singular row of tables facing the gorgeously arranged and vintage-inspired bar, this place keeps it simple but truly makes you feel like you're steppin' out on the town. Also, there's more gleaming wood to be found here than in Ron Burgundy's apartment. As for the menu items available, it's also unique and definitely meant to accompany drinks, although I've never ordered a drink here (dunce cap, bring it to me). However, the food is awesome with or without drinks from the bar. Both times I've visited, I've ordered turkey sliders. Honestly, I feel bad calling them turkey sliders, because a) that sounds like an elementary school mystery meat lunch item and b) they're SO MUCH BETTER than "turkey sliders." The turkey sliders feature roasted turkey and a potato pancake between white or wheat buns. Yum, right? Yes, but wait - there's more. It tastes like the most glorious Thanksgiving meal ever, in tiny sandwich form. The first time I ordered these, the potato pancakes were crispy, but the second time it had the consistency of mashed potatoes and it was incredible. I didn't hate it one bit. You can order the fist-sized sliders in twos or threes, but two is essentially a normal meal (about $8). You can't mix and match, though - I had to order two turkey sliders. This doesn't bother me, since my boyfriend orders the regular cheeseburger sliders and we trade. The cheeseburger sliders are also excellent and feature ground beef as opposed to a patty (ground beef on burger, you say?) and diced pickle. Local ingenuity at its finest, folks. The only thing I have beef with (ha, ha, ha) is that the fries come sprinkled with sugar, not salt. I am alone in this. Everyone else loves the fries. But this is MY review and I'll complain if I want to. Overall, this is an awesome place to come get your unconventionally fancy date night on. If you're into whiskey, J.O.B. also likes whiskey, so that's cool too. read more

Judging by the other reviews, I must have gone on an off night. The service was awful. Perhaps if I had been wearing skinny jeans and a beanie indoors someone would have at least said hello when I walked in. There was no free seating, so we stood in the walkway until one cleared up (still with no acknowledgement). We cleared our own table, and pushed all the glasses, napkins, and tip money to the edge of the table in hopes someone would walk by and collect them. I finally tapped the gentlemen clearing the table next to ours and told him he could go ahead and take the mess...and made a joke about how we didn't want to keep the tip money. This was apparently not funny to him, because he made a sarcastic comment about how he's not worried about three dollars and walked away. We ordered the fries, which WERE fantastic--I have to give them props for that. Brown sugar and sour cream...holy moly.Very tasty. Too bad we had ZERO tableside service and had to walk to the bar to order food, beers, and get our tab. Had I written this review six months ago I would have given the J O B as solid four stars. But after our last visit I'm going to have to go with three. This place is certainly A-Ok, but my fandom is now waining. This past February we stopped in here the night prior to a wedding. As we were going to be meeting some friends, we only wanted to have a drink and enjoy some post road trip conversation. Perfect setting: Rich woods, antique fixturings, low lighting, just a wonderful little bar. We sat down and were immediately greeted by the bar tender who turned out to be the man behind the curtain. He let us be and enjoy ourselves, but also managed to give me one heck of a great lesson in whiskey, scotch, and bourbon. He poured our drinks himself, which by the way are very well priced, and helped us make some great selections. We each ended up having three drinks and wished our friends would just meet us instead of us having to leave to go meet them. Great experience. Now our recent visit, not as awesome. Full on lighting, just burning those bulbs to the max. We sat down at about the same place in the bar, but it took about two or three minutes for either of the bar tenders to say hello. It was a touch busy so that is forgivable, but walking away mid-sentence to go deliver a ramekin to another table is just pretty bad service, let alone a bit rude. We each ordered a drink off of their, wait what, summer menu? It's late October! We were informed they were getting ready to switch to fall...getting ready? Getting ready was two months ago, now your buying things at the end of their season, not in their prime. Well, this was a one drink stop. I hoped for something boosy, but ended up with something far more sweet and fruity then the menu indicated. My husband put it best when he said it was poppy, hmm sad, I really liked boosy and adult. Was craving burgers so for some reason we opted to come here. Whenever I go to restaurants and get something basic, it's always a let down. And this place was no exception. Ordered the regular cheeseburger and didn't care for it. But my uncle got this thanksgiving type of burger and it was SO GOOD. It was turkey meat with brown gravy and crispy mash potatoes. The waitress showed us the food menu, went over the beer, and showed us the cocktail menu and said, "all of these are $4". We double checked. Yes, "$4". We ordered food. Several drinks. The bill came. $58.99. Drinks were full price on the receipt. I called the waitress over and said, the drinks aren't showing up as $4. She said, no, they're full price. I said no, you said they're $4 during happy hour. She said, I'm sorry for any confusion, but they're full price. My wife said, no, we asked if these were all $4 and you said they were. She said no, I said they're full price. We were planning on a get together with friends here next weekend, but we'll go somewhere else. I can't stand deceptive practices. Went to J O B twice while in Springfield. Once for dinner and once for some late night food. Drinks: The cocktails are good and reasonably priced. They have a decent beer selection and a decent whiskey/scotch selection as well. 4 stars for sure. Food: This is where things get a little dicey. Some of the cubicles are good (ham and apple) and some are just ok (cheese burger). Some, I didn't care for at all (The steak sandwich). The fries are very good and have brown sugar on them. I came here for a coworkers birthday and had an absolutely great time. I had a hot toddie that was better than my mom's (sorry, mom) and my coworker ordered some nachos that I did not try, but my coworker demolished, so it's probably safe to say they were pretty good. It was a Friday night and before I left, they had a line of people waiting to get a seat. Always a good sign. The bartender was super friendly, and made sure to introduce himself to us as well as give us his name. He was attentive and even though it was very busy he did a great job making sure we never had to go long without a new drink. We were staying down the block at the Hotel Vandervort and walked by this place. The old bourbon labels on the top windows caught my eye so we Yelped it and found they matched what the establishment is known for. They have quite the bourbon collection and some truly rare bourbons to choose from. I had a dram of vintage Elijah Craig Barrel Proof and the last pour of a original Elmer T. Lee, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. We had the indoor area to ourselves at 4pm on a Saturday, most folks sat out on the patio. Both the bar tender and owner were very nice to us and tracked down the bourbons I was interested in trying or at least pricing :), provided they had them. The selection is excellent. I lost count of the number of Old Forester releases they had. We did not try the food, but from what I saw it was not your average bar food. Thought was put into the menu and ingredients. The JOB Public House is centrally located, offers great food, and hosts a pretty unique dining experience. with the exception of the patio (which is kind of a bummer) there's a lot going for this little place. While sauntering around Springfield we stepped into this place not expecting much. We were surprised to find an inviting college bar that offered a lot more than we expected: French fries with brown sugar (okay!), ground beef burgers complete with onions inside (nom nom), and some solid beers on tap (hell yeah!). Our server Rebecca was all kinds of awesome, and she helped us master the gustatory pleasures of the menu as well as teaching us how pronounce the subtly complex names of beers like 'Schlalfy.' Would definitely recommend this place to folks looking to pregame or chill with friends before heading out, maybe to the Mud Lounge next door.
