Adventure Saturday!!! Today we took a drive into Springfield and visited Finley Farms - a MUST go for a little bit of history with a load of amazing food. Finley Farms is the Ozark Mill along the Finley River that was purchased by the daughter of Johnny Morris (owner of Bass Pro Shop). They did a huge renovation and conversion to include a restaurant, country store, fine dining speakeasy style bar and restaurant, coffee shop and gardens. We started with brunch at the Ozark Mill restaurant. Then walked the grounds, including an old bridge. We headed out for a few hours and returned for dinner at The Garrison (speakeasy vibe bar and fine dining). We had reservations on the patio and it was simply gorgeous. Much like a legend or a fable, this restaurant has the air of opulence and intrigue. Our friends have been raving about the Garrison since it opened in 2022. Last year we had to cancel a reservation due to our friend's illness, this year we decided we can't wait for our friends anymore. We have to take matters in our hands and come by ourselves. We don't need no stinking chaperone !! We arrived early to shop in the Finley farms shop and check out the ozark Mill. The brick parking lot is beautiful and inviting, we absolutely love the history behind the Ozark Mill, and we're excited to see how gorgeous everything was on the inside. I was slightly concerned that my expectation was gonna be way way way out of bounds considering I've been looking forward to coming to this restaurant for four years. Shockingly the experience was so much better than I had anticipated. We love that we're able to check in upstairs and have a codeword to check into the speakeasy type restaurant downstairs. Not to brag but I still remember the password! We were blessed to be the first couple seated and it was fun that we got a booth so we could check out the other tables and really soak in all the ambience . Our waiter Chris is top notch. He is knowledgeable, quick to help and very authentic. Per his recommendation, we decided to have the Garrison experience which is an eight course meal. We decided this isn't happening all the time so let's go big so then we can go home. To prepare for the dinner of a lifetime. I did decide to do a 24 hour fast so that I would have every nook and cranny of my stomach ready for the amazing meal that I knew was to come, boy was I glad I did. It's obvious that one can tell the skill of a chef based on how everything tastes, what separates magnificent from excellent as when something you typically hate ends up tasting surprisingly good. I have always hated cheese. I know this is a cardinal deficiency in my palate , but it's just the truth. When I saw that there would be French and soup on the eight course meal, I quietly decided that I would just not partake in that course. When I noticed shrimp was on that same meal I knew my husband wouldn't take part in that since he hates shrimp. I figured the experience would be fine if we just didn't eat some of the things that were served to us. Shockingly enough everything was delicious. The girl who hates cheese, devoured her French onion soup, and the man who despise a shrimp decided the shrimp was actually pretty good. Wow !!! That's saying something. We of course, also had to partake in the signature cocktails. I had the molasses cocktail and my husband had the Garrison. Later, we shared the Boulter and my husband was able to have a glass of wine. Our eight course extravaganza took three hours and we loved every second of it. Kris was there the whole time warning us not to fill up too early since there was delicious food ahead. Not a piece was bad things that we typically hated we loved and we left knowing this was the night that will always remember. I am pretty sure this is going to be our standard anniversary, got a promotion, daughter got engaged sort of restaurant where we will mark big occasions with wonderful memories at the Garrison. We ate at the Garrison for a friend's birthday and it was a lovely experience. Our group was seated at the chef's table, and they even accommodated a few extra guests that weren't on the reservation. We had a private room with a door leading right to the kitchen, with a lovely large table for all of us and dim lighting adding to the ambiance of being underground. Service was amazing- our server answered any questions we had about the menu and kept the drinks coming all night. My bf and I decided to share a few plates and we were happy with our choices. The Black Kale was a great starter, simple but tasty. The Riverside Fried Chicken filled the two of us up- pricey, but some of the best fried chicken I've ever had, and the homemade pickles and pickled ocra were a nice addition. The 100 Layer Potato was cooked beautifully but a bit too smothered in sour cream for my taste. I made reservations for a party of 6 adults and a 2 year old, not realizing that the ambiance isn't exactly conducive to a newly walking hyperactive tiny human. We didn't want to wreck anyone else's experience and expressed some hesitation after we saw the interior (absolutely awesome, classy, dark and eclectic). They offered to change us from the table the had prepared for us to an outdoor table. It's was a little cold and rainy out, but they got heaters going for us and we were very comfortable. Highly Recommend. My wife and I were going to eat at the Ozark Mill, as we do frequently. Instead when we walked in the host at the Garrison asked if we needed any help, then if we had a reservation. We did not have a table but decided we wanted a nice date night so asked about availability. They are typically require a reservation but were able to squeeze us into an open table. The atmosphere was great, starting with your walk through the old molasses tank where you're met by another host which requires a password for entry. The food was spectacular. We couldn't decide exactly what we wanted but our server Eric had wonderful recommendations paired with the specialty cocktails it made for a elegant evening. read more

We had a great experience at the Garrison. The food was so good, I HIGHLY recommend the whipped goat cheese appetizer and the Iron Flank. 5-Star Service and Food - - - - - - - - December, 2023 Visit One of the finest meals! - - - Our daughter and I visited Branson in December, to ride Fire in the Hole before at Silver Dollar City, one last time, before it was replaced by another coaster. We had a great trip... in part thanks to the phenomenal dinner at The Garrison at Finley Farms. - - - Unsure we'd get to dine.... We drove down on Friday night and had a light dinner before we left the house. I was hoping that we'd get a chance to stop at Finley Farms, but wasn't sure we could, as we had left the house later than we originally planned. Thankfully, we turned south on Missouri Highway 65, at Springfield, just before 9pm, and we were soon approaching Nixa. We confirmed that the Garrison was still opened and turned east and we were soon walking inside. - - - Arrival The Parking lot and entry way are quite nice. The hostess greeted us and led us down the stairs to The Garrison; you proceed through 40 feet of a tunnel, made from a repurposed molasses tank, then you are seated. The atmosphere is nice; wood trim on the walls and ceilings; wood floors. There is a safe that is so big and heavy that they could not move it out; they moved it from place to place as they refurbished the restaurant, and now it is a feature. The bar and the ceiling lights are unique. There are a variety of tables for small and large parties. - - - The Service Staphanie was a gracious, and knowledgeable, and helpful server. - - - The Food WOW! If it weren't so late and if we hadn't eaten before we left, we would have liked to have tried the five-course dinner. Ambiance. If you are looking for a romantic cozy date night, this is your spot. The beautiful historic bar back is a great place to sit and have a drink while you await your table. All drinks are handcrafted and sure to suite any palate. We dined outdoor on the patio. Complete with live fire pits and the sounds of the Finley River nearby. Food? We started with the bison tartare, which was very good. A nice light appetizer on a warm summer evening. Next we enjoyed two entrees. Where to begin??? Vibes 10/10 if you don't mind low lighting! They provided a flashlight with every menu, definitely pumped up the speakeasy feel. Aesthetics are off the charts! Food 10/10. Our eyes rolled into the back of our heads for every dish. Personal favorites: whipped goat cheese, scallops, porterhouse. Drinks 10/10. Each specialty cocktail had a sketch and accompanying story/context related to the property that made each concoction feel especially intentional. This is an INCREDIBLE destination here in the area!! The food is incredible and the atmosphere is just as cool! Our server "Eric" was awesome and super attentive. We had a couple of the "Garrisons" and they are a delicious cocktail! The music..,, vibe... and all around ambience is just very cool and very "adult". That adult part is my only complaint.... WAY TOO MANY KIDS for a "speakeasy". I was very much under the assumption this was a 21+ bar and it is definitely not. Was trying to have an adult good time and several times was interrupted by kids running around. Need to pick a vibe and stick with it... with all the options in the area I don't think having kids here is "needed". Give the adults their space and STICK TO IT. We were dressed up... enjoying adult time... and then boom kids. This is not what I wanted to spend my night with or my money on. Finally made it to the Garrison and it was well worth the wait! The ambiance was so fun. The food was incredible - and our server Eryn really added to the whole experience. We tried the crab cake, scallops, duck, pot roast, and the porterhouse. Not one complaint from any bite I took. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. My favorite by far was the crab cake- I could have danced on the table after the first bite it was so good. We finished off the meal with the ricotta donuts and it was a perfect ending to the meal. We also tried the damsel and the bolted cocktails and they were both so light and refreshing. 10/10 recommend. The only thing I will say is we followed their recommendation for how much food to order and it was too much for me. I would have been satisfied with 2 small plates - but leftovers never hurt anyone. read more

You walk downstairs and through a giant metal boiler to access the restaurant. The entry and decor transports you to an upscale speakeasy. The atmosphere is intimate yet lively. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable. The food is dynamite. The small plate (tapas) design of the menu allows for a tasting experience. Everything we ordered was easy to share. Eating at the Garrison is more an experience than going out for dinner. Our waiter, Caden was absolutely great and made excellent recommendations. We were told that there was no hurry for us to order as we could keep the table for the entire evening. That set the tone and it was wonderful. The appetizers were amazing, the Red Snapper was incredible and the chocolate layer cake was a great way to finish it off. The Garrison is quiet with nice background music, great ambience and great staff. I'd do 4 1/2 stars if I could because It's a bit overpriced for what it is. The cocktails were wonderful, we selected a nice array of them. I think my favorite was the Milpond. This was my second time back. The food was great, the Tartare was my favorite. The first time we did the riverside experience and it was far too much food. We got the scallops, quail, Tuna, Duck, Tartare, sweet potatoes and of course the pound cake this time around. Scallops were spot on, quail was good, Tuna wasn't memorable and the duck was pretty gross. It's always a fun atmosphere though. Very Ozarks feel and a fun place to dress up. I love the bathrooms too, they are so unique and cute. The service has always been good. Taylor was our waitress and she was really sweet. The middle aged woman with brown hair took care of us last time and she ROCKS. (I forget her name though.) I loved this place. It is in an old mill so it has a rustic, homey vibe. There are huge windows with a view of the river or dining al fresco. The food and the service were both amazing. Picked this town on a whim for a birthday getaway. It is about a 3 hour drive one way from my home and found this place while looking up dinner spots. This place was beyond amazing! The decor was stunning and felt like we were transformed into another era. I had noted it was my birthday on the reservation page and it seemed everyone knew and wished me a happy birthday. We ordered the shrimp ceviche and crab cake to start. Both were amazing but crab cake was our favorite. Ordered the duck and quail for the meal and not one complaint. Perfectly cooked, seasoned and the presentation was something of an art. I wasn't going to order the dessert but our waitress said if I got the pound cake I wouldn't be disappointed and man was she correct! The flavor and nice crunch of the butter on it was like something we have never had plus topped with lemon ice cream and I love all things lemon. Such a hit! Speaking of our waitress, Taylor. She was a pure delight! Knew the menu inside and out. Helped us with ideas on what to order and made us feel very special from the start to finish. The Garrison is lucky to have her. We reserved The Pantry (private) for an early 5:00pm seating for 10 and had a wonderful time The menu was unusual and delicious as were the desserts, it was very easy to talk and converse in this space which can be a problem with groups of this size. The entire place was really hopping on the first day of regular paying customers. We loved the Ozark Steampunk feel in the metallic molasses chute entry and the decor was comfortable and cozy. It's very dark as you enter so bring a phone light if you have eyesight issues in the dark. If the party room is not spoken for, you can sit in nice cushy sofas near the River and enjoy fire pits with views of a charming bridge and slight waterfall in the river.
