The ONLY reason this isn't a 5 star review is because David. Hannah at the bar is a true angel! We decided to sit at the bar and sat ourselves at a high top table (which typically is considered the bar.) We were unaware that the only 2 tall tables in the bar section were not the bar to which David ignored us for 15 minutes. When we finally got his attention he told us "y'all sat yourselves, I'm busy"... We are big customer service people and this was clearly a mistake on our part. Kindly let us know and let us know how to correct it instead of disregarding and disrespecting us. Hannah came over and asked if we were okay and said she would take care of us. She also explained that to David when he was on the other side of the bar talking to another waitress about how we sat ourselves and we can wait until he has time. It wasn't incredibly busy when we got there, but that didn't stop the service from being pretty non-existent. We were waiting on a couple of people, but no exaggeration it took 10-15 minutes before our we flagged someone down to take our drink orders. In fact, the table that was seated next to us at the exact same time we were had placed drink orders and appetizers and a food runner tried to bring us their appetizers before we even saw a waitress. We finally flagged down the waitress assigned to that table (after 3 others walked by us) and she took our drink orders and said she would find our server. Having just gotten over a recent stomach bug, I opted to play it safe and get bean and cheese nachos as to not upset my stomach. As a whole I've always been a fan of the Jalapeño Tree brand and their foods, but I wasn't up to getting too gutsy yet. Again, no exaggeration I received exactly 8 chips with a paltry splattering of beans and cheese. At the bargain basement price of only $7.99! I've included a photo, lest you think I'm just trying to be mean! There was setup on the side, which I guess is generally used to fill the middle of the plate? Most places the garnishes are sprinkled over which was why I requested it on the side. It was a typical melon scoop of sour cream, guacamole, some pico and some jalapeños. Still nowhere near worthy of the $7.99 price tag. The guacamole, while fresh, also utilized under-ripened avocados and was inedible. When our waitress finally materialized she was incredibly friendly. I can understand a mixup, that might not have been her fault at all. But there were so many people walking around that could have fixed this. A solid apology. Comping a non-alcoholic drink we had to wait 15 minutes on. Something. The food tasted pretty good. My favorite TexMex in Tex! This place never disappoints... the salsa alone is worth the trip here. It literally bursts with flavor, i can't even compare it to others I've had anywhere else! Their fajitas are amazing and if you want to go an extra mile, make them the El Dorado Jack Fajitas and they are slathered with cheese, bacon and it adds about 10 scale on the taste meter! The reason i rate it 4 Stars is because service can sometimes be lackluster... a lot of young kids work there, which is great, but if the supervisor is awol they have a tendency to congregate and chat in a corner rather than servicing the customers. I've been here many times when traveling in Texas and this has been a constant issues I've seen there. Outside of that though, the food is on point and does not disappoint! read more

Oh my. Well. Here's the deal. On a few occasions we have arrived late to eat. Normally I wont go anywhere that closes in 30 minutes from when I arrive. We arrived at 9:15 pm. Late but still. The wait staff looked as if a space ship landed. We should have taken this as a clue. The food came out in I swear 5 minutes. I had read a review of the food coming out cold so that was in the back of my head. The waiter who somehow replaced the waitress had several times said the plate was hot and don't touch and they were but when I cut my enchilada the chicken it was like warm. Also I ask to not put tomatoes and there the were. When I asked him about it he said, I shit you not, hey I'm the janitor. So then for the next twenty minutes we were watched. We passed this restaurant on our way to Dallas, Tx and decided that we were going to eat there. When we walked in the young lady asked if we would like a table or a booth. I say table and she says back "we don't have a table open" so I said I guess a booth it is and she replies "I can put you at a table except we don't have one open". I'm thinking to myself why in the world would you offer something that wasn't available. Anyway we get seated and the chips are hot and the salsa is good. They have some signature dinners so I get the Elvis Presley. The beans and rice were fine and the cheese enchiladas were good but the steak fajita meat wasn't so good. My husband and I were coming from Van, which is about 15 minutes away. We called in a small order to go late afternoon on a Sunday. We were told that it would take 15 minutes. The big problem at this restaurant is not the food or even the prices (which I think are far too high, but that's corporate's deal so I won't ding the locals for it). The problem here is the service. Since this location opened it's never been great, and it's only getting worse. I've been twice in the last month or so and the service was sub-par both times. First of all, if they restaurant is only about 1/4 full, I shouldn't have to be put on a waiting list to be seated. Have enough staff on hand. Second, if there are 15 empty tables, why must the default for the hostess/host always be to go to the one nearest the restroom. Yes, I asked for a different table, and yes she obliged...with rolling eyes. Third, why can't we get any chips and sauce in this place anymore?! The last two times we've been here, the "chippers" seem to look right past us. Both times our server had to get the chips and sauce for us because the chippers were nowhere to be found. Fourth, STOP SPREADING YOUR SERVERS ALL OVER THE RESTAURANT!! This is seriously the most baffling thing about this place. We were seated in almost the same spot both times--the dining area nearest the door and our table was midway back. Our server had tables in our area, the middle dining area, and in the bar area. This is absurd! They cannot possibly provide good service having to run all over the building like this. Just stop it. Assign them tables in one area and then cover as needed, but not constant flux. Your prices are too high to have service this bad! The best assets in this location are the servers. They work their butts off and do the best they can with really lousy management. Being from Dallas we were talking to some friends that live in Wills Point that challenged us that they have some of the best margaritas ever. This is during the Corona lockdown. We ordered beef fajitas. Absolutely incredible. What a value for sure. If you haven't tried them here your missing out. We also ordered margaritas in the rocks. 1 gallon to be exact for $25.00 to go. They are done if the best margaritas that I we have ever had and the food was spot on. We come out to see our friends every weekend since which was over a month ago and we order food from them every weekend. And management of Jalapeños needs to recognize there waitress/ bartender Macy is a true asset. She's friendly and has always provided us with the best possible service. Couldn't Make Me Some Fajitas To Go. Management Is Shockingly Inept. All I needed was some take-out fajitas (no sides) for a family birthday party of 12 to 14 people. Very simple request. But the staff and management at this place is so inept they simply could not fill my order. Here's the story: On my way into town I called to place my order so the food would be hot and ready when I arrived. After getting three different people on the phone, nobody could figure out how to do it, so I said I was almost at the restaurant and would just order in person. I spoke to the hostess, a server and finally the manager herself about my simple request. I was told that they could not fill my order because it wasn't specifically on the menu that way, and their register would not ring it up, but she would talk to the kitchen manager and see what could be worked out. In a couple of minutes the manager returned and told me they could indeed sell me some take-out fajitas...for $245. (This was their "catering" price.) I repeated that I only needed take-out fajitas, without sides, and I wasn't planning to set up service at a civic event. The manager recalculated the price without delivery, plastic utensils, or sides...and the new price came to $165. I told her that I often get the same take-out order--plus sides of beans, rice, chips and salsa--at On The Border for $70. Could she match it? Nope. How dumb could a manager be? I walked out, and although my birthday party was delayed, I got my take-out order at another restaurant down the street for around $70. I've dined at Jalapeno Tree before, and the food has always been wonderful. But be warned: If you go there, don't ask for anything that is not specifically on the menu and on their register touch screen because you won't get it. read more

Then they put mushrooms in my sons dish, which he was fine with just picking them off, but it's the point. Got one of our cocktails wrong and when we asked the manager, whom we had to flag down to get our drinks from the bar, he just blew it off instead of checking on it. This place had a little bit of a wait but no complaints from me because we stopped in on our way back to Dallas and it was a nice little break. The hostess at the front seemed to hate their lives but that's none of my business, thankfully they weren't servers. Our server was a super friendly man. I ordered a combo with chicken tortilla soup and a chicken soft taco. I was pretty disappointed in the food. The tortilla soup didn't resemble anything Texmex or Mexican at all, it tasted like chicken soup. My chicken soft taco also resembled something I could have made at home but with less flavor. I did like the Mexican rice and the fact that they brought fresh warm salsa and everyone gets their own, that was pretty cool.
