Let me begin with the food... I will say for me being American Mexican this food did not taste authentic. I ordered Menudo and it was mainly caldo. Unfortunately the coffee was just as bland. As for the service I feel it could improve. We were told there were no tables at which point I asked if we could be seated upstairs and then I saw that there was indeed a table downstairs by the bar area... so idk what that was about. I will say that the ambiance was on point but that's about it. Will I return probably not but if your in the area and want a few drinks I would say give it a try.

Grilled avocados and veggies absolutely delicious

First time here. We walked in and were told there were no tables available and would need to wait 20 minutes. We had to ask if they had tables upstairs. Then they asked if we would like to sit upstairs. Well yeah who wants to wait 20 minutes anyway our waitress was very nice and attentive. Our food came out right away. I ordered small menudo not bad for 7.00 but it literally had about 7 small pieces of meat and the rest was just caldo.

    Combo plate.

Great ambiance, a little loud from the second level. Salsa heavy on onions, queso a little Velveta like but still good. Margaritas were delicious and smooth frozen. Rice was fluffy and delicious. Beans ok. Chicken was tender. My husband wasn't a fan but I was pleased.

The best jalapeño Wrap & margaritas in town. Chips & salsa are amazing & service is fantastic.

Food was not good. We had El Chavita. The meat was so tough. The plate was so greasy. The plate was un seasoned.

For example, the dinner special I tried (meatloaf with mashed potatoes and corn) didn't come out as I had hoped--the meatloaf was a little dry, the potatoes were on the cooler side, and the corn just didn't taste quite right. My husband ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, which was served hot and had good flavor, but the texture of the steak made me wonder if it might have been frozen beforehand. The sides--green beans, rolls, etc.--also seemed like they could use a little more seasoning and warmth to really shine. What really keeps me coming back, though, is the atmosphere and the staff. The place has such a warm, welcoming vibe, and the team is always kind and friendly, even if service can sometimes take a bit longer. If you're visiting, I'd absolutely recommend going for breakfast--it seems to be where this place truly shines.

Food: Chicken fried steak/ Grilled pork chop there were no complaints. Good portions for the cost and definitely seemed fresh. Even the sides were delicious and fresh tasting. And whenever we take a drive like that, we make it our mission to find a highly rated local lunch spot. This one was on the way home and looked promising, so in we went. I will say this for Texas. Onion rings are everywhere here, far more than when I lived in California. I will happily take that as a win, because the heat for about nine months of the year is not my jam. Sadly, the onion rings were not listed as one of the many sides (so we couldn't get them as a side with our meal), but we ordered them as an appetizer ($8.99 I think) with blue cheese dressing. I am not a ranch girlie, and I stand by that choice. The blue cheese had huge chunks in it, which makes me think it might be house made (bonus point!). Now, the rings. I am firmly Team "Battered" Onion Ring over Team "Breaded", and these absolutely delivered on the team battered. They were almost chicken-fried, -- super craggly, crispy, and deeply satisfying. These were the star of the meal, so do yourself a favor and order them - but you need a friend to share them with, its a heavy portion. They also have great lunch specials, most around eleven dollars. I got the pot roast with two sides, refried beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. After indulging in the onion rings, I was not exactly starving, so I ended up with enough leftovers for another full meal. The pot roast was nicely shredded and tender, and the gravy was rich, flavorful, and worth every calorie. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak, (he's obviously on a diet!), with fried okra and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was forgettable, but everything else on his plate was solid. Service was friendly and efficient, and this place definitely fills up at lunch, so plan accordingly. A very good roadside stop, and proof that sometimes the best meals happen when you are just out running errands.
