Been here twice. First time, the food was so so, as was the service. Thought they just had an off day, so tried it again. This time for a to go order. Waited 10 minutes for someone to take our order, even after asking if we could get a to go order, we were told, the other guy would take it. Waited another 10 minutes, the guy never came. My wife and I have gone here for 10+ years, our family lives in Oklahoma and we have always eaten here when coming back to Dallas and sometimes on the way up, 8-10 visits a year. The food and service has always been fantastic. Coming back tonight we stopped again and had a very disappointing visit... 1: The hostess was friendly, as always, but the wait staff, while friendly, was very inattentive. 2: This restaurant is usually packed, there is always a wait no matter what day we visit, not so today, about 1/4 full around 6:30-7pm, this should have been our first clue. 3: The prices are $3-$4 more per entree than they have been in the past and are at least $2-$3 more per entree than many great TexMex restaurants in Dallas. With all thats going on a price hike is understandable but this seemed much more than a standard hike, we're talking $14 for a Quesadilla. And then... 4: The food was substandard. This was the biggest disappointment for us. Jalapeño Tree has always had great food in the past, not so now. I had 1 Shrimp Enchilada, it had 3 small-average size shrimp on top, no shrimp inside, only cheese, and 2 sides, for $15! We have great TexMex in Dallas, yet we used to love coming to Jalapeño Tree, not any more. This is sad. This place has amazing food and a fabulous atmosphere. Service was fast and friendly! While the hubby had been here a few times, this was my first visit as we don't live in the area. He ordered a choose 4 combo and I ordered the Jack Nicholson. The JN came with deliciously tender steak, perfectly cooked chicken, and veggie skewer seasoned just right. It was served with a side of something called fajita butter which was a concoction of yumminess I had never tasted before! I didn't like this place at first. I don't understand people's fascination with queso sauce. I think it is gross. However, after trying their other sauces I think their chili sauce is very good. Their chips are very thin, crispy and fresh. They keep the basket full of fresh chips. They serve 2 dipping sauces and each diner gets their own set so you can double dip guilt free. One sauce seems to be avocado based and is thick and creamy. Very good. The guacamole is good. We have been served several times by Kareem and he is very nice and attentive without being a pest. Tried the Treasurita this time - a margarita with amaretto and pomegranate juice. Very tasty. Will be a favorite place. read more

No one is wearing their mask the CORRECT way, you can hear the staff complaining about other customers, bus boy was eating chips straight out of the chip bin, margarita tasted so bad I almost spit it all up, they don't clean the tables correctly (more then just the table top should be cleaned) and not to mention the manager was walking around acting like all the other employees. I been eating at this Resturant for years. As of a month ago the salsa changed flavor. It was nasty. Other people in the restaurant mentioned the same thing. Management said it was the same;naturally. The enchiladas tasted weird/different too. I guess what I'm saying is "I won't be eating there ever again". I feel sure they won't care. read more

The only problems with the restaurant was the Pico de gallo had old tomato's and the salsa was blended to the max; also the butter side looked like there was spit in it. My wife and I had eaten here previously when visiting her mother and been uninspired. However this trip she wanted to go Fri. evening so at 91, you take her where she likes. We waited maybe 10 minutes to get seated but Larry took care of us right away. The green and red salsa was good. We never waited to get our drinks refilled or another basket of chips. The food was very good and brought to us about 20 minutes after we ordered. My wife had the shrimp tacos with corn tortillas based on Larry's recommendation. They were excellent. I tried the brisket nachos and they were very good. I am glad I didn't make a judgment based on a first impression because we would have missed out not only a good meal but great service. read more

Between the time we ordered and got our food, another table that was seated after us ordered, got their food, paid their bill and left. Multiple other tables ordered and got their food as well. When they did finally bring our food it was cold. I called a manager over and explained the situation he said "Well according to the ticket it only took 20 minutes." I then said we had ordered over an hour ago. He threw his hands up and said "Fine! I'll take care of the meal." and stomped off. My family was in the restaurant business for 35 years so I am more than patient with stuff like this, but a manager (a grown, older man) acting like a child is unacceptable. I want to know what the green sauce is. I wanted Mexican food where there was internet and this place fit the bill. The service seemed quick for our table of 4 although I was distracted a bit. The meals were accurate and glasses stayed full. FAIL!!!! I am a fat guy who loves to eat... I am pretty easy to please, cold glass of Tea and a mildy warm plate of dead animal will usually suffice, but this place TOTALLY FAILED ON ALL ACCOUNTS!! Manager didn't know how to read the seating chart without help from the host, waiter must have been his first day, three out of four glasses pretty much stayed empty, one person's food wasn't even ordered until after the other three had already arrived, Even when the waiter asked if everything was ok after realizing he made a mistake, the manager never came by or checked with the table. My daughter actually started feeling sick shortly after leaving the restaurant and got down right sick later in the evening once we were back at the motel. Good place to stop in for what they claim "crazy good Mexican food"! The food really is good! Queso is awesome. I didn't care for the table red sauce served with complimentary chips, but they have a hotter one if you ask!!! But seriously the best service ever! Our server, Daniel, was running the show! This is a good place to meet and chat, as the music is not too loud. We did not eat, but it appears to be typical Tex-Mex fare. We sat at the bar and there is food service at the bar, if desired. The service was prompt and friendly. Their wine list is nominal, consisting of types of wines, but nothing specific. They do, however, have an extensive tequila list and seem to specialize in several good tequila brands. I almost didn't come here do to the not so great reviews but since it was late and close to our hotel, I decide to try it. Nothing could be worse than the last few local Mexican restaurants we tried locally. I was very surprised how good the food was. My fajitas meat was like butter, and the corn tortillas were delicious. My Don loved the Arnold Schwarzenegger meal. Huge portion there. The place was very busy and we had a 15 minute wait. The Service was excellent. My only con was the salsa. It reminds me of Chili's salsa. But still better than any other restaurants we tried in the area. I stuck with their green jalapeño salsa. Unbelievable. It's truly amazing that this place could be terrible at so many things. I didn't know that Dinty Moore canned stew meat could be used for "spicy" tacos. The squeezable Parkay butter spread was a disturbing addition to the table condiment assortment. The avocado salsa was mediocre at best. Even the ice water was off putting, and smelled terrible. Whomever is in charge of this place it extremely unqualified and extremely uncultured in the culinary arts of basic Mexican food. The only satisfaction we received was seeing the only Hispanic person we saw during this atrocity, actually making wonderful tortillas and chips. I came here for my birthday dinner and was very excited to go to a locally owned restaurant. I walked in with my mom and sister. They told us it would be a 10 min wait and asked us for our number. While i was speaking to the hostess, my mom and sister sat in the benches and the hostess told us that we couldn't sit there and we had to wait in our car until they would call us when they are ready. We thought ok cool they are taking really good care of customers with COVID going around. So we waited for about 5-10 min and got called in. We walked in and there were about 5 people waiting on the seats that they told my mom and I we couldn't sit at..... I was very upset because they just told my family and I customer could not sit there... ummm my family and I are Hispanic and everyone who was sitting was white... Then we sat down at our table and our waiter was VERY unprofessional !!!!! Young girl was very rude and took forever !!! The waiter did not help in this situation and made me more upset.. so I went to the hostess and asked why they are not treating all customers equally here when waited to be seated and she immediately said do you want me to bring my manager... NO APOLOGY FROM ANYONE !!!!!! I will not support an establishment that racially profiles and discriminates their customers. Wow! This is the first time I've been disappointed with this restaurant. It's usually one of my favorites. We usually dine in, but today I called an order in to go. My order wasn't right. I paid for extra tortillas and didn't get them. I got no chips, salsa and green sauce. The onions and peppers weren't cooked. It was like they were thrown on the grill to warm them up but that's it. I created a yelp account for this specifically. My family and I ate there yesterday and have been sick as DOGS ever since. Of my entire family, the only two who aren't sick are the two who either didn't eat at all or didn't eat cheese. We're all restaurant industry too, so we're well aware what probably went down.
