Terrible!! This place has taken a nose dive with the new management. Poor service,went in for my hour lunch and waited 40 minutes for food. Orders were sent out wrong. Manager was unprofessional, dressed poorly, (ie. shirt unbuttoned, wrinkled) did not introduce himself. Argued with our table about the service. Overall terrible experience and that is a pity. The food was adequate, however it was very greasy. The chips were extremely greasy. We got sick to our stomach's on the way home.

This place has slowly become a spot we will avoid. To begin, we waited so long that we actually had to ask to be seated, and the bartender was the one to seat us. This meant our waiter didn't know anyone had been seated in his section I suppose, because it took a very long time for him to stop at our table. This was the same story for people sitting at 2 tables near us as well. We eventually had drink orders taken, and brought back after about 10 minutes, and at that time our food orders were taken and we had to request chips and salsa. Our food arrived in a reasonable time, my son ordered a cheeseburger, didn't get cheese, but when we inquired, we were given a bowl of shredded cheese. Not sure that's what we had in mind, but we were hungry and he accepted it. The food was pretty good, but terribly overpriced! I had shrimp quesadillas, there were maybe 6 shrimp inside and I spent 12.99 on them, rice and beans always seem like a way to fill the plate, because they always suck, this was no exception. Getting our check and paying took way to long! We don't visit this place often anyway because it seems there is always something that makes it unpleasant, most often the service. This was no exception. Our waiter himself was polite, but they seemed especially short staffed, which I find unacceptable seeing as how the "now hiring" banner never comes down. The poor service will keep me from returning again, at least for a good long while. Perhaps management should figure out how to properly staff a restaurant. read more

we have ordered several times to get delivery. Last time we ordered fajitas. we were not given any tortillas. hard to eat fajitas without them. I call and get passed around and spoke to someone who told me I could come and get some. I just paid to have someone deliver this. I knew there was not really anything they could or would do but just wanted them to know and acknowledge. At one point, the guy tells me the tortillas were not expensive. so- I still need them for a fajita. Food is good, but I am frustrated with people- who are in management that can't just simply say how sorry they are and they want to make it right. read more

Had a late dinner here on 24 May 2016 with family. This was, by far, the best Mexican food I have had in a long time. There were 4 of us and we showed up at 8:45pm. The hostess greeted us with a smile and seated us right away. Our server was friendly and knew how to answer our questions. The FREE chips and salsa are worth mentioning. The chips were thin and warm when we got them and the dips (2 different types) were excellent! Everyone at the table got their own dip...no sharing required! Our chips and drinks never went empty. I had the Elvis Presley (cheese enchilada, crispy taco, beef fajita meat) and I cannot say enough about how delicious it was. The fajita meat literally fell apart in my mouth, best ever! The enchilada and taco were good, as were the rice and beans! Also ordered were: chili rellano, burrito, burrito! No one at the table had anything negative to say about their food. If you have never been to this particular Jalapeño Tree you should try it AND if you have been here before, try it again! read more

The food was terrible. It took over an hour to receive it and it was cold. Did they have to go pick it up somewhere???? The food I ordered was suppose to have peppers in it but there were none to be found. Did they run out of peppers????? What is Mexican food without peppers? I feel they should have given us a discount for all the wait. I saw other tables get food in 15 minutes. We will never go back there, it was a waste of money. Their nachos are the only thing I've ever had. Nachos - taste: 5; portion: 4, meat ratio: 3. Salsa and green sauce: 5 Having said that....they've messed up so much, my dad refuses to eat here. They've shrunk their portion s thinking people wouldn't notice. Their service is absolutely atrocious. I waited ten minutes for chips and salsa on a weekday afternoon (definitely not busy) and only got it because we stopped someone and asked. Very similar to Chili's, but a few more Mexican dish options. This is one of the few places that offers Chimmichangas, and enchiladas as menu options. I think they're quite good. The chips and salsa are really good, and it's conveniently located being about a block off the highway. They're always busy on weekends; especially Sundays. There seems to be a lot of turnover with the staff, so there are definitely opportunities to improve service. They also have a soft-serve ice cream dispenser in the entryway, so you can grab a little treat before or after your meal! They have outdoor seating, and the area is well landscaped with plants and even a fountain. It is a little over priced, but as a once-in-a-while treat, it's less expensive than some of the other really good Mexican restaurants, but offers a more traditional fare. read more

My wife and I have tried three times in the past year to really enjoy this place, but they make it so hard. On our trip today, it took about 15 minutes to be seated. Considering they had maybe three other tables seated, it seems pretty unreasonable. It took the same amount of time before our waiter got around to us. He also managed to mistake "Pollo Asado" for "Carne Asada" without even asking how I wanted this incorrect order cooked. Of course it comes out rare and bloody and everything was room temperature. I've got a pretty strong feeling I'm going to refund this meal straight into the trash can later tonight. It's strange how the Sherman location can be a totally different story. We had heard such good things about this place we decided to give it a try. I wish we had not. The best way to describe our visit from beginning to end was TERRIBLE. First, when we arrived they were not busy, only one family of three was there. We had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. While waiting we had to listen to ridiculous stories of how the host gambles and wins big at the casinos. Next, when we were finally seated at a dirty table the waiter ignored us. He never acknowledged us. He just kept waiting on the family seated next to us. I had to ask the host for drinks which took him about 10 minutes to get. It was just two cokes, nothing complicated. Finally after I said to the waiter "are we invisible?" as he walked by us once again, decided to wait on us. After an extremely long wait our food arrived. It was the most disgusting Chimichanga I have ever tried to eat. Try meaning it was inedible. Tasted awful. The enchiladas were edible but bland. Waiter never came back to table to check on us. We got so frustrated with the whole situation we just paid our bill and left. Drove to Sherman to Mariachis and had an amazing dinner!!! Now they know how to make great Mexican food that is crazy good. We will never come back to Jalapeno tree not even for free food. What a huge disappointment. read more

We came in about noon today (Sunday) thinking we could grab a quick lunch and get back on the road. Wrong! We were informed there was a 30-40 minute wait. We discussed leaving to go somewhere else but decided to wait there as this is one of my fav places to stop whenever we are traveling through here. There are signs explaining that they are short on staff and unable to serve at capacity. We did wait 35 minutes for our table but the waitress was with us immediately and took our drink order. She was back quickly and we placed our order for the sautéed shrimp with queso which is our favorite. We had our food in less than 10 minutes and it was great as usual. The waitress, although very busy, was very attentive and efficient. We are all living through some difficult times, but I do applaud Jalapeño Tree for doing their best to serve their patrons. So, if you decide to go here, allow plenty of time and have patience and it will be worth it. read more

I do not like this place. The food is hit or miss. The last time we went we were invited by a group of friends for drinks on the patio. They had eaten already. We were smart and are before we came. No one liked their food. We went inside for a drink because the waitress never came around (even for iced tea). The bar tender was HORRIBLE. I ordered two vodka sodas with lime. I was taking one to my husband. He left off the limes. I asked again. He brought me one. I asked for another. Nothing. Got his attention again and asked. Then he asked me if I was going to drink the other drink?? Wth? I said no it was for my husband. I guess he thought I would dig the other lime out of my drink and put in the other?? He THREW another lime slice onto the bar top at me... I was being nice about the other lime. I wasn't ugly or hateful about it. I WILL NOT ever be back. read more

During our experience last Saturday, we arrived about 4:00. The young bar tender looked at us but never came over to take our drink order. We sat there for probably 20 minutes, and I noticed her telling a waiter to wait on us. Not sure what the protocol is for sitting in the bar area at one of the tables and not the actual bar. No one else was sitting in this area, not even the bar when we arrived. After more customers came in, she rushed out and took there order. When we go out to eat, it is to relax, talk and order. This area is nice to watch a little sports, relax while not holding up tables in dining room for too long. The waiter that came over has waited on us before and he is great. Service sucked! I ordered a chicken taco salad and waited 45 minutes to only be served a cold beef taco salad!!! Waitress was new and totally untrained... Being a native San Antonian Mexican food is part of my DNA, so visiting a small town Mexican joint I was not expecting much. Of course they did not disappoint either. Once we walked in there were tons of empty tables yet we were made to wait 15 minutes to have our party of three seated. Once we were seated they gave us stale chewy chips. I was however impressed with the greenish salsa. The beer on tap was affordable but it did not make up for the lack of taste I the food. To be honest the amount of food you get and what you pay is not worth it. I sorry but a enchilada is not made with a flour tortilla. Plus thy had ParKay spray butter on the table.
