This restaurant is a good choice for a late dinner; many area restaurants close earlier in the evening. I found it to be a bit expensive and it took a while to get our order. I would not recommend the taco salad but evidently their drinks are worth a try. Another visit is likely especially if not willing to drive into nearby Tyler, Texas where there are more restaurants options. read more

This place exudes atmosphere. It might seem a little kitschy but I like it. Good food - the Humphrey Bogart combo hit the spot with delicious enchiladas. Service is top notch. Very friendly and attentive. read more

Let me start by saying that we arrived at about 1:30 on a Sunday. Already we know there will be staffing related issues. So- that being said: In my humble opinion: We pulled in to a full parking lot at 1:37. Curb appeal was standard. Lobby and dining room: standard. 3 stars. No wait. Our server was stretched so service and delivery were longer than expected. Placed our order at about 1:45 and meals arrived at 2:05. Still not unreasonable. 3 stars. Food: LTO Pablo: $10 Outstanding!! Cup of white queso: $7 Always amazing. Lunch fajitas: $15 Unbelievable- delicious 5 stars. My family and I have been customers of the jalapeño tree ever since it came to Mineola a number of years ago. This was a groundbreaking venture for Mineola when the jalapeño came in. Over the years, what was once groundbreaking has become very fatigued. The food is only OK. Look at the pictures and you will see that the plates are not very visually appealing but it looks like whoever puts the food on the plate thinks they are doing an adequate job. The interior needs to be sandblasted basically and decreased from the ceiling to the floor and from the kitchen to the front door. My wife and I went to the Mineola location tonight. The host set us in an empty section. A young man brought chips and salsa. We had numerous wait staff walk past us. After 10 minutes I asked a waitress if there was anyone who could wait on us. She went into the back, came back out and said that he would be right there. After another 5 minutes we decided to leave. We often eat at the Jalapeno Tree. The food is pretty good but, nothing special, It always takes a long time to get our food and twice one person in our party was very late getting their food. We feel the prices are to high for the amount of food and the taste of the food. We do enjoy going and the staff are always great! read more

I've never been to a jalapeño tree and I was super excited to eat there. We get there at 8:30 pm and it says they close at 10pm. So we have plenty of time to eat. We go in, sign says wait to be seated. We sit there for 10 ten minutes no one even spoke to us. We decided to go sit at a table by the bar. And no one spoke to us still. I counted at least 6 employees and not one acknowledged us. They were just hanging out and paying no attention that we were there. We sat there about ten minutes more. One guy looked at us and then turned around to watch tv And we just got up and left. I'm very disappointed in their customer service and their attention to customers. I guess I'll be trying a jalapeño tree in another time. Hopefully they will have a better team of people working there. read more

The service was 4 stars.... Staff is friendly, attentive and keeps the drinks and chips filled. Food, margaritas, between a 2 and a 3. Menu didn't appear to have anything other than typical Mexican-American fare, just with interesting names assigned to a few. Doesn't make them taste better though. Table salsa is better than average. Presentation of the Jalapeno Tree salad was nice. Hearty portion, accompanied by a scoop of guac and sour cream, plus taco sauce. But other than that, it's basically a taco shell filled with a very simple salad mix; nothing interesting...topped with decently seasoned chicken and I got a fruity vinaigrette to dress it. The chipotle pineapple margarita was a bit sweet and not the least bit appealing. A little fresh fruit and some spice (not sure where the chipotle was supposed to be, but I didn't taste it). While the environment is very upbeat and colorful, the food doesn't live up to the decor. Last couple of really good Mexican restaurants we've gone to have set the bar quite a bit higher and ruined this one for us. But service might win you over here to give it another shot. read more

Over staffed and under served is a killer in the food service industry, so I don't expect them to last much longer. Hostess was arranging table for couple as I watched. Another couple approached a waitress who was standing with arms folded and not helping in anyway. She did not help them either. As I was leaving I noticed the ice cream machine at the hostess stand overflowing with ice cream piled on the floor. Hostess and busboy acknowledged me, but made no effort to clean or address the mess. Place is unclean, overstaffed and under served. No Go! read more

The food and service is not as good as it used to be. Tried again today and Kristina was our waitress today. I asked for sweet tea, no lemon. My husband ordered his drink, Pepsi. She brings back our drinks, my tea with a Lemon on the side of the glass. I said I asked with no lemon. So she grabs the lemon off the side of my glass and said, "Now.. no lemon and walked off. Hmmm. What if I was allergic? Just saying. Then I ordered bean and cheese nachos. I said just the Beans, Cheese and Jalapeños but on the side. Nothing else. She said..no guacamole and sour cream? I said nothing else please. Just the chips, beans, cheese and the jalapeños on the side. Another girl brought our food. Well I received my nachos but also with lettuce and the pico de Gallo right in the middle of the nachos. Jalapeños were all over my nachos. So she did not do my orders correctly whatsoever. My order wasn't very big, just my drink and a regular order of the bean and cheese nachos along with my husband's order. And she either wasn't listening or just didn't care. But to just take the lemon off of my glass and walk away...smh! When she brought our ticket, there was no break down on what we ordered on the ticket, just the total, that's all. I heard another table asking for their breakdown as well. Plus she just looked like an old drug addict. I did not think very highly of her. The food itself was okay today. Our server was great, but that's where the good stuff ends. The green sauce was mid..the food was mid. I was overall unimpressed with this place. I ordered a fajita bowl, but asked to add mushrooms and the sour cream sauce. It cost an additional $4 to do that..and it didn't help the flavor at all. Very disappointing. read more

On a work trip in Mineola, we stopped here on a late midweek evening in the middle of a pouring thunderstorm. This was really the only place open late but the food turned out to be excellent. It has a menu fairly typical of Tex-Mex cuisine, but all of the entrees were nicely prepared. I enjoyed my fajitas, which were tender and accompanied by plentiful condiments (pico de gallo, guacamole, etc.) I was also impressed that the restaurant was able to take care our huge group (20) at a late hour. Service was spot-on. I will definitely be coming back here on future work trips. Recommended. read more

Our group of seven arrived at 3:30 pm. The staff said the only place they could seat us was in the bar, by pushing together two elevated bar tables. There are very few tables in the dining room, and because of their "Covid" guidelines, they are spaced VERY far apart. Way farther than 6 feet! You would think it was May of 2020, rather than May of 2021! We opted to wait for a dining room table. The staff said we would have to wait outside, even though no one else was waiting for a table, and it was kinda chilly outside, due to stormy weather. The staff seemed indifferent and disinterested in our business. My advice: look for a more friendly restaurant. Every time is different. Not consistent with there food. Sometimes it's amazing and sometimes it's awful.

Imagine trying to eat dinner and have a conversation with a friend while sitting in an over-crowded chicken coop located inside of a busy bus terminal. That's the ambiance of this restaurant. There are few sound barriers and there is consistently some crying kid who is overdue for his nap. The food is edible, but not worth the decibels overload. Amazing food and service! The avocado/sour cream dip ahead of the meal is worth a trip if that is all you came to eat. I had a make-your-own combo with a beef enchilada, crispy beef taco, and a pork tamale. Everything was fresh and the portions were generous. Moved away for a few years but we are back, this place is still fantastic and I can't say enough about the food and the team that takes care of you. A local Mexican joint in a small town with a good menu, this restaurant is friendly and has a flavorful set of dishes. The restaurant is large and sits a lot of customers, including larger groups in a back room. If you arrive before the main rush, the wait is short and the food comes out quickly. Their menu is the standard set of Mexican offerings, including fajitas, enchiladas, quesadillas, and so on. Some dishes have special spins on them like the brisket quesadillas that add a flare to Mexican food. They also have healthier options, like grilled chicken breast with onion and avocado slices, which is very tasty. The price is average for a Mexican restaurant, a little more expensive for larger dishes. The staff is friendly and the overall experience is worth the drive and price. read more

This is a nice option for food in Mineola. Not many options in town and this place is large enough to find a table and also has really friendly staff. Average Tex-Mex, average margaritas, with a higher-than-average price tag. We had the combo fajitas with corn tortillas and the tortillas may have stolen the dish; fresh, warm, and a great compliment to the chicken and steak fajita meat. Middle nowhere Mineola tex-mex is pretty legit!! Husband and I ordered combo fajitas there was plenty of meat to feed at least three maybe four depending on how hungry you are. Love the salsa and the other cream salsa that comes out with the chips. This is definitely going on the list of places to hit up when coming out to head to the lake. read more

Stopped in for lunch, great decor, chips and salsa the white salsa was good the red, well not so good service a bit slow. Ordered one carne guisada taco, wasn't anything like any carne guisada I have ever ordered! And at $7.99 was well over a bit pricey! My fried ordered one crispy taco at a cost of $3.89! The taco had a quarter size serving of beef in it with a little lettuce, tomato and cheese on it. Now the server when asked about the menu had to read about the item and just repeated what was written! Over priced and while what was brought to the table was good, was not like you would recognize at any Mexican restaurant else where. I personally will not be back. read more

Ate lunch here with my mom today, I recently quit eating meat and trying to cut back on dairy so I was treating myself today and chose this restaurant, big mistake!!!! Let me just explain what a horrible experience I endured... time is 2:00pm so you know they aren't busy, most of them just standing around doing little to nothing, no lie... so I order the special hot sauce which is HOT which is why I like i, the ding dong waitress never came back to refill my water or green sauce which is what I mix it with , never came back to refill my moms tea... so I sat there and suffered with my tongue on fire while waiting 10-15 minutes for my margarita. Placed food order which was very simple and I explained what I wanted to a T because when I do go there, it's what I order one cheese enchilada with green sauce rice and beans my mom ordered the queso and French fries the ding dong waitress did not ask my mom if she wanted a cup or a bowl but you can bet your ass she brought out a bowl and like 10 French fries AND my order was WRONG it was covered in white sauce so I sent it back and it came back COLD I managed to eat half of it and decided to send it back and can you believe they actually MICROWAVED my food, literally just pushed my plate to the side along with empty green sauce bowls and finished off my margarita and asked for check, I felt offended and humiliated, WHO goes out to eat to pay those kind of prices to eat microwaved food???
