YES to this place. Not only do they have great food (veggie bowl 10/10) they have amazing live music and entertainment. I am slowly becoming a regular here every Thursday night for Latin night. There is a dance lesson around 8 I believe, and then open dance floor. It is legit Latin dancing with amazing music, and everyone is friendly. It had a been a minute since I've been in. First off the show was amazing. Good stuff for a Wednesday night with SoulShine entertaining. I started with a lemon ginger vodka drink. Very refreshing. I had the crab cakes appetizer. They were pretty good but seemed a little bland and dry. The sauces were nice. I chose the vegan bowl with grilled shrimp. The roasted red peppers and quinoa were great AHS the shrimp really made it a big dish. I took enough home for lunch the next day. We shared a brownie for dessert. Went for a Monday night jam session. They have a 3-piece (bass, drums, piano) band and you can sign up to play with them. Had an outstanding time. The house band starts so you get some high quality songs to start. Then they invite those from the audience who had signed up to come up and play. I played piano for a couple of songs and had a great time. You do not need to be there early for a Monday night jam session. I got there at 6 (music supposed to start at 630) and I was the first one there to eat. Food is very good too. I found prices to be very reasonable. read more

I went to Jazz Kitchen on Wednesday Feb 23rd for their WOW Wednesday to hear local artist Allison Victoria perform her Soul + Maya Angelou set. The last time I went to Jazz Kitchen was Feb. 2020 before the pandemic shutdown. Jazz Kitchen is very legendary in Indianapolis, and as far as a Jazz Club. Jazz Kitchen has showcased so many dope artists including local artists. Jazz Kitchen opened its doors back in 1994, and one of the top Jazz clubs in the world. Jazz Kitchen have a popular festival late summer called Jazz Fest. When, arriving there you can park along the side streets, or at the Fresh Thyme Market parking lot. There's a small sidewalk ramp for anyone that needs it, and now anyone trying to get inside of Jazz Kitchen just follow the signs on the door, and you'll now enter the building at the third door. It's best to pay for your Jazz Kitchen ticket(s) online that way your show isn't sold out. If, you come solo like I did last night sitting in the dinning area you'll sit with others at their table, or they might sit with you. Luckily, yesterday I sat at a table with two young ladies were we laughed, drank, listened to the performers, more laughing, and enjoyed ourselves at Jazz Kitchen. I did order the hurricane drink which is $10 the drink was very delicious not too strong. Jazz Kitchen is that chilled out grown vibes, that has dope artists performing there. Always check the Jazz Kitchen website to see who is coming, and if it's someone very popular get your tickets fast. Had a blast with our group of friends! We went on a Thursday & the waitress was super friendly and attentive even when we were up dancing. We got taught how to dance and it was so fun, especially want to shout out the female dance instructor who kept tabs on my boyfriend who is Deaf and made sure to make communication a priority for him! We came on a Friday night and didn't realize that everyone had to pay $15 cover (to enjoy the live music) in addition to a $15 food minimum. As we were debating what to do, the lovely hostess suggested that if we were just there for dinner, we could simply eat in the back of the bar where we couldn't see the stage. We could still hear the music and got to enjoy a nice concert since it was our first time there. Because she was so kind and accommodating, allowing us to stay spiked our interest in the joint and we will be back for a concert (that we pay for) in the future! The bartender was also very kind and attentive and I loved the humble, yet romantic vibe of the place. Food: Extensive menu including a Spanish charcuterie board, paella, two types of grilled salmon, salads, burgers and creole. My walnut-encrusted salmon was large, tasty and allowed me to choose a yummy side of mashed potatoes. The size matched the $19 price well. I tried the burger and fries as well and loved the seasoning. We got the brownie dessert and it was HUGE. Music: The jazz rocked. A blind man was not only playing the piano amazingly, but singing in an incredible falsetto voice. I had a wonderful evening with friends at The Jazz Kitchen. The setting was perfect, dark but cool, and I felt that I had plenty of room to be in my own biome and enjoy the spell overlayed by the musicians on the stage playing away. The food was great, and I think the Flat Iron Black and Blue salad is a steal for $21, lots of flavor and lots of steak. The service was very friendly and welcoming too. The seven o'clock show on a Wednesday was the perfect time to get out of the house, get out of the comfort zone and hear something new, and still be home to get rested up for work the next day. No pictures because it is kind of a no cell phone atmosphere, encouraging you to just enjoy the moment and be engaged in the experience of artists playing their hearts out. read more

I am not sure why I have not been to the Jazz kitchen before but I will definitely be going again. What a great venue to see live music. Very intimate area with great acoustics. We had seats up front, but I think you would've had a great show anywhere you sat. Service was great and the menu had a New Orleans flare. Wonderful wonderful venue! Not only was it good music but also great drinks and good food! It was such a fun experience, not your normal night out. I ordered the not so Cajun chicken with rice and Omgosh I was amazing, creamy, spicy and just delicious. It was a large serving so I took some home but it never made it to the next day because it was soo good ha! The music was great, they ask for no talking during the show which this being my first time I didn't realize...oops... our table didn't have the lil please don't talk during performance. We figured it out about 15 min and they're right be quiet and listen to some jazz!!! The service was great and quick. It was just a great way to spend a night out and enjoy some good jazz. Please note you have to buy a ticket to the show to get a table. There was a bar area not sure if that was for walk ins. They also renovated inside. So it felt safe and allowed social distancing. Ok here it is. This happened last Friday 7/5/2024: Last night i went with a friend to the Jazz Kitchen. The entertainment was great. We sat in the back of the restaurant we could hear the music just fine. If you sit in front you pay $50 + your meal( there's another story behind that.) so my friend was telling me something but I could not hear. I went an sat next to her for a moment for her telling me something. Across the way was a man with 3 women giving us an evil glare and he got up and said something to the hostesses and pointed at to us. A few moments later hostess came to us holding up a card telling to stop talking during the performance. Oh, there were 3 guys yelling and laughing- they were not approached by hostess. Well we were finished our meal, paid and got up. That man thought we were a gay couple and complained. We were not but so f"n what if we were. Well as we were leaving we let them know we knew what was going on will never be back. The server stopped coming over to us. So FYI not family friendly. Well bac in November 2023 we bought tix for a performance to set in stage area but they gave our tale away. They promised a refund but I never seen a penny. Sorry for the long post. Unfortunately it pains me to leave a bad review for this venue I was visiting from Vail Colorado and attended the show on September 28th 2022 for the i am from Indy and I am getting old with Kevin Anker show. The music was phenomenal and so was the food especially the grilled shrimp appetizer, just the right spice and cooked to perfection The problem was I had two additional friends joining me for which I pre purchased two front row tickets online for a total of 56$ And when my party of 2 and I arrived we were sat about 5 rows back at a table for 8 (the back of the house) I inquired if I could have my friends for whom I'd purchased the two 25$ front row tickets for could simply just join us I had to pay an additional 30$ bringing the total ticket price to more than 40$ a piece My friends whom I had invited were totally confused! I was told by the hostess that it was considered an upgrade to move 5 rows back? They live in Broad ripple and frequently attend shows at the jazz kitchen and have never paid 40$ for a show at the jazz kitchen Ever! They've never herd of this kind of price gouging and quite frankly I feel a little ripped off !?!? They moved from a front row seat to a seat 5 rows back and I had to pay 30$ extra for worse seats? I took my daughter who loves Jazz, but had never been. And I had not been since the COVID pandemic. We had a great time! Jazz Kitchen remodeled during the months they were closed due to COVID. They did a nice job. We bought seats in the main room where we could see the stage/musicians. I didn't think I'd ever want to sit in the the Lounge where you watch off TVs with Live sound. Since the remodel, I would sit in there if I couldn't get tickets in the main room. The Jazz was good. It was the music of Herbie Hancock. I have always had great food there. And again, they didn't disappoint! The food was fantastic! We got the Not So Cajun dish which was excellent and the entree size spinach strawberry salad which was good and fresh. Then we got the white chocolate blueberry bread pudding with caramel! Amazing! It's a must have! Our server, Christina was awesome. Look...any place that brings in my favorite recording artist is going to get a great rating. Truthfully, the food and venue are really great on their own! So, when I saw that Jim Chappell was going to be performing on a Sunday night, I immediately bought a ticket online. There is a handling fee and you simply check in the night of the show after 5 but at least a half hour before the show starts. The main dining room that can see the stage (a very intimate setting) only seats about 100 guests. I got to the area about 5:40 and actually found street parking on College! Check in was at the main entrance and even though I was alone, I had no trouble getting a really good seat. There is additional seating in the lounge where you can listen, but not see the performance. I think those get a reduced ticket price. Oh, and the lighting is low and mostly red. Photos of food don't turn out unless you use lighting on your phone before the concert. The photos of the stage don't seem to be affected. Obviously, flash photography and cell phone conversations are discouraged so that guests can hear the music, not your chatter. The staff and host were very welcoming. I was seated and got my drink and placed my order for food, dined, and even ordered dessert before the show started at 7. The servers are very quiet once the show begins, but still circulate to see if guests want anything else. They then bring out your bill with about a half hour left in the show and you settle then. Know that if you come here for a concert, you will have two bills: one for attending the concert; and one for what you eat. There is a minimum of $15 per person for food and beverages to make it worth while having servers on hand. The concert tickets are based strictly on what the artist is charging. But know that if you buy a ticket, you are going to be right there! I was at the third table from stage and the sound was fantastic. The food was also delicious! I ordered the Crescent City Crab Cakes which comes with a side (I chose the Sweet Corn Maque Choux). There were 3 breaded crab cakes (a little on the small side) that were cooked just right and came with two dipping sauces: a cajun mayonnaise and a cocktail sauce. The mayo was creamy and lightly spiced. The cocktail sauce definitely had horseradish, but for flavor, not the ridiculous burning pain. The "mock shoe" wasn't as creamy as I expected, but had a nice spicy taste that went well with the crab. Oh, and the White Chocolate Blueberry Bread Pudding was fantastic! It comes with a bourbon glaze caramel, a light cream, and topped with fresh cut strawberries. Wow! And the concert? Simply amazing. I love when a musician can play moving music acoustically. Sure, big productions and great combos are fun too, but to show your talent with nothing but a piano is for a true master. I've had the pleasure of seeing Jim Chappell once before when he came to Carmel (I even attended a workshop he gave that morning and had lunch with him.) Both times, he has someone come out of the audience and play three notes (or in the first show, three different people pick a note). He then creates a melody based on that pattern. I am amazed every time how quickly he can create something so personal and emotive. I have already scanned the upcoming schedule and found 3 or 4 more concerts I would like to go to this year. Today we decided to go hear some good music and have dinner. I hadn't been to the Jazz Kitchen in a long time. The parking is very difficult. We had to search for street parking and finally lucked up on a space. We bought tickets for the second show. Doors were supposed to open at 9:30pm but they were running behind. The Manager even came over and told to person handling the door to have us wait another 10 min. After finally being seated around 9:45pm, we ordered drinks. I had a drink called the high low sidecar. It was really good. The band was "Composition" the Song Artis was Stephanie Stephenson. They were all awesome and the highlight of the night. The food was a different story. We were a party of 4. I ordered the ribeye and it was over cooked with no flavor. The garlic mash and arugula salad were good. My husband got the Tilapia and said it was ok. The wait service was not the greatest. We had to ask for bread with our meal. Our water glasses were never refilled. The best thing and the only reason for 3 stars was totally due to the live band. read more

The waitress was extremely attentive and always refilling our drinks and seeing if we were ok. I ordered the burger, and my girlfriend ordered he salmon and they came out at the same time, nice and fresh from being cooked and was delicious. WHAT THE FRONT DOOR? Wait, I'm old and I don't think that came out properly. Anyway, love this place. My husband tried to be spontaneous with me on Sunday and arranged to drop the kids with his folks and drive 4 hours to Indy for a jazz show. And despite the fact that he loves jazz, and I, well, don't, I decided that yes, we need to be more spontaneous. So we got to Indy, checked into a hotel, then immediately drove to the Jazz Kitchen so we wouldn't be late for our show. Narrator: They would, in fact, be late for their show. Because they don't know how time zones work. Ok, we messed up and thought we were arriving there at 8pm, but lo! and behold, our hometown of Peoria is one hour behind good old Indy, and we were arriving closer to 9pm for an 8:30pm show. GOOD NEWS! The 8:30pm show was delayed. Temperamental artist? Kitchen fire? Cthulhu manifesting in the garbage disposal? Who knows! But it worked for us, cause we got to see the whole show! Entertainment: Now, as I said, I'm not a jazz person. My husband, however, is a jazz performer (tenor sax) and a jazz lover, so he was pumped from the get go. But, I really liked the show, with the exception of a little buzzing in the sound system. And then WHAMMO! Like magic they pulled out an 80's cover tune. Took me back to the summer of 87 when gas was 99 cents a gallon and my butt was literally half the size it is now. Good times. Food: Pretty freaking good. Not fantastic, but above average at any rate. I had the filet, medium rare, he had some horrid seafood concoction, which he declared "delicious." My only issue was with the compound butter. Chef's LOVE compound butter. Regular Joe's like me just want butter, man. Compound interest: Good. Compound butter: nooooo. Bar: My husband ordered some girly drink, margarita, maybe? He enjoyed it, so the bartender is good. I ordered a Jameson neat and a Guinness, so you can't mess that up. The Guinness was not optimally cold, though, so by the time I drank down my whiskey and poured the Guinness into the provided glass, I didn't get a nice fluffy head like I usually like. Bathrooms: (Yes, women want to know what the bathrooms are like) - Good! Not enough toilets for an intermission full of women, but there never are. But the bathrooms are clean, modernized, DECORATED, and spacious enough so that you're not sitting on the toilet with the paper holder rammed into your ribs. Service: Friendly, lightning fast. It was stunning, really. Location: Safe, inviting, night-lifey. In fact, as we approached the venue, my BRAND NEW CAR (well, new to me) lost the brakes. We were about a mile out and started hearing this bad noise, then suddenly, I couldn't stop, YIKES! So we just parked the thing and decided to call a tow afterwards. We sat in the parking lot for like an hour waiting for the tow truck driver, and never once felt unsafe. At the end of the towing operation, I even went back to the restaurant to ask if I could use the bathroom and they let me back in and everything! We were visiting from out of town and found this venue on a "Indianapolis Attractions" website. We then followed up on their Facebook page to get the schedule. Since our 18 year old is a jazz musician, he was very excited to see a performance. When our party arrived, we noticed that the hostess was being extremely rude to the party in front of us. When she seated them, she then asked for our son's ID, and rudely said that he couldn't come in. I said that it would be nice if that was advertised and she rudely said that it's "all over" their website. (On a close review of their website, it simply says "21+" in very small print.) I hate to give a negative review of a venue based on the absolute rudeness of one employee, but if she is representative of this establishment, I would advise going somewhere else. read more

I already really liked Jazz Kitchen but at last night's Mardi Gras celebration the staff went above and beyond for me and my party of Galentine's Day dates. This was my second year in a row celebrating Mardi Gras here. I have been here for many other events and always have a great time dancing to live music, sipping on delicious cocktails and dining on some delicious New Orleans style food. Last night was no exception until... a gentleman danced his way over my ankle. More like jumped with all his might and landed on my right ankle. It was painful enough to knock the breath out of me and I winced in pain. I hobbled back over to our table and my friend found our server to ask for some ice. The staff took care of me. They showed concern. They offered things that were not necessary for such a minor incident (I'm fine today except for some bruising). They brought over free admission passes for me and everyone at my table, which we accepted because I'd love to give Jazz Kitchen more of my business. This establishment is an Indy landmark. It's hard to find live music in this town and this place always has it. Check out their schedule - if you are a jazz fan you will fall in love!
