This is the definition of a comfy and cool local spot. Easy parking and even easier to walk to for the neighborhood behind it. I've been in twice now and there's plenty of seating and a big bar. When it's nice out they open up the windows and it's such a great spot to swing in for a drink after the day and relax. The servers are friendly and so are the people that go here - the owner's are fantastic and you can tell they care about the place and making you feel welcome. I had wine and the margarita pizza and my husband had an Italian chicken sandwich - he was shocked at how good the sandwich was and ate the entire thing. My pizza was good too - super doughy which I liked. Also a great wine and drink selection. Like i said, the owners just seem like genuine good people and even treated us to free dessert. I'd recommend here for a fun evening or afternoon drink and bite to eat - and Friday night live music!! We'll be returning. read more

Finally tried Songbird last night. It's a neat little place that we've driven by all the time. We came on a Friday but early so before any music would have started. It was seat yourself and we grabbed a table and the server came by quickly. There were maybe 7 people sitting at the bar and then us and right after we arrived a young family of three. So not busy at all but again, early so most people still probably on their way home from work. We just did the pepperoni pizza and beer but they had a very good whiskey list. I almost went for a bourbon since the had a good one on the happy hour menu. The pizza was very good, a little different than we normally get but still a solid pizza. A more modern atmosphere and my only complaint would be the chairs aren't very comfortable at all. Solid wood and no padding so for someone like me with lower back issues it got uncomfortable very quickly. The seats at the bar looked nice. Overall, we liked it and will come again. read more

Hosted a pre-wedding dinner of 12 people. We were able to be seated upstairs as there was live music downstairs and it was a bit loud. Service was very good and food was excellent. A few of the appetizer items were a bit overpriced I thought. For example, we ordered the deviled eggs. I don't recall how many there were but what was odd was to receive both halves of 2 or 3 eggs and then 1/2 of another egg. Seemed odd not to get both halves of all eggs. Also, the appetizer was about twice the cost of buying a dozen eggs in the store. Other than being a bit pricy, food was good. I wasn't wow'd or a place I'd go back to, but no real complaints. read more

Tried a new place for a casual Sunday nite dinner. Not very busy at all making it nicely quiet for conversation. The modern stylistic furniture is comfortable enough and provides a clean look. Our server doubling as bartender, Jonathan, was most attentive, knowledgeable and upbeat. A decent wine & beer selection as well as signature cocktails. We started with the Shrimp Rangoon dip - very tasty served with crisp wonton crackers. Tami ordered the Lemon Ricotta pasta - with peas, mint and Parmesan. Very tasty though it could have been a bit warmer. I chose today's pasta - a rich Chorizo Bolognese over Radiatori pasta - perfect with just a hint of spice. We finished with a dessert of little donuts (reminiscent of donut holes) rolled in cinnamon sugar with raspberry & chocolate dipping sauces. We were impressed with the quality, the presentation and the appropriate serving sizes (not huge American supersizes) so we were sated but not sluggish when finished. We will return to try other apps, entrees and pizzas - perhaps on Thursday, Friday or Saturday music nites. read more

What went well? Everything! We went on Valentine's Day and ordered off the Prix Fixe Valentine's menu. $55/pp for a three course meal. Both of us agreed, the food was fantastic. My steak was cooked perfectly. We were actually served by the owner who was super friendly. We were sad that we were not able to stick around for the live music because we had reservations elsewhere but would love to go back. Unfortunately my friend group of 6 did not have the best experience. Maybe we caught them on a bad night. Our server was annoyed and almost rude. We had the house dip and the shrimp rangoon dip. They were okay nothing special. I ordered a pizza that I thought didn't have red sauce because several said red sauce and this one didn't but when it came, it had red sauce on it, which I did not want. I explained to the server that it didn't list that on the menu he just stared at me. I kept it and didn't eat it and shared my friends's chicken salad, which was way too salty. We were there on a Tuesday and there was no live music. It seems like a good place to sit at the bar and have a drink and listen to music when they have it. I am not sure food is there forte. I was a little disappointed in this place. The live music concept is cool, and once the guy started playing it was OK though the crowd was still focused on their conversations- more of a background type of music venue. Here's what I didn't like though: *The place faces the sunset, and they made the unfortunate decision to decorate the bar facing the sunset with glass mirror tiles. So, if you come at sunset, be prepared to squint- our server was actually wearing sunglasses while working *The food was very mediocre. Bacon wrapped date appetizer- OK but small. Spinach & Artichoke Dip- have never had it served cold before. Now I know why- it's much better when it's warm. Pizza- Pretty disappointing- Way too much crust and the crust isn't that good. Toppings bland. *Service- OK but a little off. She did come take our orders when needed, but did a marvelous job ignoring empty appetizer plates and water bottles when she came. read more

We visited in a sleepy college football Saturday and had a great experience. The Spicy Tuna Crisps were excellent, and we might have found our favorite new espresso martini, their Bird on a Wire! This review is overdue. Went for dinner after work with a co-worker a few Fridays ago. Split an Italian bottle of wine which was very good. Appetizers were okay, I wish they had a little more flavor. My co-worker tried a wood fire pizza and said the crust was a little doughy for her, she would have liked it more crunchy. I tried a gnocchi dish with shrimp. The dish had overall good flavor and the shrimp were cooked really well, I wish the tails would have been removed. Tried the ice cream dessert with waffle. The ice cream was amazing, the waffle part was kind of bland. The service was excellent, Johnathan did an amazing job. Live band that set up and started playing music but it was kind of hard to make out what they were singing. Cool concept when it gets warmer that their garage doors can open to allow fresh air. What would Songbird Social House be without live music? I first learned of Songbird through an online magazine publication that promoted the new gathering place as a speakeasy. My first impression upon entry is that this venue was experiencing an identity crisis, because it clearly looked like a pizzeria alongside an upscale bar. The large brick oven is openly visible and the family dining area has really hard seats that made my back and butt hurt. I had a flashback to sitting at a grade school desk. Family seating should come with cushioning, so individuals can feel welcomed; otherwise, people will eat and go without truly staying to enjoy the talented musical artists. In contrast, the bar area had comfortable cushioned seating all around, and it gave a mixture of being elegant with the glass mirrored wall tiles but sporty with the TVs. Walking in was an introduction to a possible speakeasy with the low dim lights and sleek sofa (but with kiddie Halloween ghost pillows to throw off the mature-looking corner) tucked behind the host's stand, and it clashed with the hard, heavy, basic design of the table and chairs in the pizzeria. Speaking of which, the menu is limited to pizzas and pastas and a few other items. It's somewhat of a small venue, so I can understand limitations. The pasta warranted basic seasonings of salt and pepper, though. Going up the stairs, there's a nicely done mural on the wall that's a great backdrop for photos. Upstairs lacked a consistent design theme such as downstairs. The lamps were art deco, there was a hodgepodge of couches and chairs, and a long dinner table was set with dishes. The upstairs seemed like an afterthought as it was disconnected in terms of the layout, and I'm trying to understand how adults will stick upstairs when all the action was below. In a nutshell, there was no consistent theme, no color scheme, the design and decor clashed, the downstairs dining seats were brutal on my body, and the menu needed some tweaking. A professional interior decorator should be hired and an experienced restauranteur needs to be consulted. Oh, and with this being October 4th, the owners were there and spoke to all patrons except us on one of their first nights. The male owner went from table to table. Then, when my friend and I stepped upstairs to view the space, the male owner walked right by us without speaking; he was headed to his office. Now, mind you, no other patrons were upstairs as all the action was occurring underneath our feet. read more

This is a fun place with delicious food, unique cocktails, and efficient waitstaff. Big bar, choice of high top tables and normal height tables...you can even sit by the pizza oven and watch them being made. Pizzas are their specialty but the menu is so diverse you will want to try something else, too! I had the quiche special...so nice for a light meal I was looking for. The upstairs event space is beautifully arranged. We came for the music last night and it was just lovely...not too loud and fit the vibe for a Wednesday night. This is a new favorite find for me. Came in for dinner on a Saturday night at 6:00. Most of the tables were empty at that moment and we were able to quickly secure one (I noticed a couple with reserved signs on them), but the place did fill up quickly afterwards. They had live music this evening by a duo playing 90s & 00s covers. While they might have been good, the acoustics of the room made it a challenge to hear them clearly or to have a conversation at our table over the noise of the entire space. The hostess and our server were pleasant and attentive. The only real knock on service was that we were low on water once we received our meals. They have an entire bar's worth of drink options available, but I'm just a draft stout man and was happy to partake of the Founders Breakfast Stout ($7.50) that they had. We started with their Baked Goat Cheese ($12), which had a good flavor combination and maybe 10 or so tiny slices of bread to spread it upon, which I liked better than the crouton-like bread that other places sometimes serve. Only critique would be that the cheese didn't necessarily seemed baked, but it was good. Their menu includes a selection of unique sandwiches, 12" Napoli pizzas, and pastas. We decided to try their Potato and Wild Mushroom ($17) pizza, for which I had seen favorable reviews online. It tasted fine and was appropriately baked, although I would have preferred a ratio of more mushrooms to the potatoes that it had. We finished with their Basque Cheesecake ($11), which was a squared off slice covered in blueberries. My wife enjoyed it, although we felt it was more of a standard cheesecake than the famed Basque version it was advertised as, aside from lacking a crust. They have an upstairs I checked out after our meal that is more quiet than the downstairs main space. Not sure if food is served up there, but it did have a few tables for 2, one longer table for a larger group, and a couple of more leisurely sitting areas. My husband and I stopped in on a Saturday night (Oct. 19) for an impromptu date night while our kids were both out of town. There was a bit of a wait to be seated, but our waitress was polite and attentive. I had two themed cocktails, both of which were very good, but unfortunately I can't remember the details. I also had the goat cheese appetizer which was delicious. My husband had a hoagie sandwich with house made chips. The chips were so good that I ordered an extra side of them (which they accommodated even though it's not on the menu). There was live music and, although the singer wasn't exactly to either of our tastes, he was pleasantly entertaining and we both enjoyed it. With the live music, there wasn't really an ability to have a conversation, but I understand that there is upstairs seating where it is probably a bit quieter. We would definitely return. read more

Went there on a Friday night for a cocktail and to check out the DJ. The drinks were good but a bit watery. The DJ was great and there was a surprisingly cool, eclectic, fun crowd of people that was actually dancing and having fun but ... we had to finish our drinks quickly because my ears were ringing in pain. I'm baffled that a place called "Songbird" never considered acoustic treatment for the space. There is not a single soft sound absorbing material in the entire place. So the sound is bouncing around in a jagged harsh way which makes enjoying the music impossible and good luck trying to have a conversation there. It's not only an insult to music and musicians but it's dangerous. Hearing damage is real, painful and irreversible. The interior needs a complete redesign because you can't enjoy songs or being social here. It's a shame but that's Indy for you. read more

My friend and I love local music so were very excited to try Songbird. It was a lot busier than we expected, even though it was a Friday night. The chatter was so loud, we were unable to hear the musician. I think there needs to be a little more work done for soundproofing. However, our waiter, Jonathan, was attentive and a lot of fun. I had the shrimp salad and a pasta with vegetables. The salad was small, but both dishes were very good. I had two glasses of wine that were generous pours. After dinner, we went upstairs to the lounge and finished our drinks. The speakers there were very staticky. All in all, we had a nice evening, but if you're going to put yourself out there as a music venue, guests should actually be able to hear the music. Would love to try it again. read more

Arrived during "happy hour" on a weekday. Ambience was nice but a little cold. The bar is large and "U" shaped which I believe is a must. Service was very good and Johnathan was really pleasant to work with. Specialty cocktails were delicious and had a fun variety of options. Food was good but our group split several items which were delicious however the plate option was way too small for anything more than bread. The owner(s) seemed available but did not check in with us until we were leaving and that was to thank us for coming. I would have like for them to get our input on our experience and the food. But maybe that's just me. I do very much recommend Songbird but the acoustics are not great and it is difficult to have conversations even if the building is only 30% filled. This place is simply AMAZING!!! The food is incredible, and the staff is top notch! It's refreshing to have a new place up north that has incredible pizzas, and isn't a "chain" restaurant! The music vibe is also amazing with live music 2-4 nights a week. Large open space, with a huge area upstairs which is a really cool lounge that can also accommodate large parties and events. When the weather is nice, all the garage doors are open and it feels just like you're sitting outside!
