Recently I closed on a home in Vista, and dealing with Jim Bottrell's real estate agent Sonya was a nightmare & a struggle. I've never had an agent that was 100% on our side, until I met Sonya. During the whole "buying event, I called out Sonya and questioned her on "whose side are you on. This didn't happen once, I had told her 3 times and of course she assured me that she's on our side. One time while on the phone with her, questioning her integrity, it seemed like she was about to cry., If I didn't love the house so much, I would have "walked away, let my " real estate realtor contract expire and start over with a much more professional and understanding agent that "has ur back" Much more to add that got the Jim Bottrell team a 1 star, but I'll leave you with this.... 11 days after getting my keys, the AC went out.. I asked Sonya for the "home warranty" info and she said she had a morning meeting (7am) and that when she was done with meeting, The line she used was "when she was able " so of course that never sounded " promising" It was only 2 more texts that I sent her until she gave me the name of the warranty company... The idea I get that with the Bottrell company that there's not importance of "post sale" issues that pop up, definitely made us feeling like we're on an island. So as I continued to navigate my "AC" going out, I was entertained by Sonya telling me that "she gave me the warranty info personally. I asked her "where & When", because I would have taped the paperwork on the refrigerator until it expired.. Sonya also mention someone that she works with in the office re: warranty , but when I asked if I could maybe get the contact info of the person, as I maneuver towards getting my AC repaired. I quickly realized that she wasn't gonna share nothing with me... In the end, I asked her to "e-mail" me the HWA info so that i can be more informed.. When I opened her e-mail , there was no HWA info , but there was 8 pages in "enter-office" communication where Sonya shares her love & concern for other office people (2 of which are the people she was reluctant to share with me) and "blistering" comments regarding me... I was shocked, but not surprised. Once I realized she wasn't on my side, I told her there will be no "warm n fuzzy " feelings when this sale is complete. It's nothing personally, it's just business. It's hard to find quality agents who actually follow through with what they say they will do. I bought my first home with Jim and the process was ridiculously easy. The home I bought wasn't even on the market yet so I didn't have to compete with other buyers. I've since gotten married and when it was time for us to move into a bigger home, Jim was my first call. We were a little nervous being it was during COVID and ever home was going hundreds of thousands over list price and it felt like the only way you could get a home was to sell your first born... What I didn't expect was that Jim would help us find the perfect home and again... it wasn't even on the market! In the height of COVID we got our dream home without a bidding war and walked into 11k of equity!! Without Jim and his team I would have felt defeated or made to settle for a home I likely would have overpaid on. I've since referred several friends and family over the years to Jim and his team. Do Not list your house or property with this company.. it had been a god awful experience. Let me explain to you what has happened to us.. I originally called the Jim Bottrell team because they had great reviews and i liked the fact that they are veteran owned since my husband is also a veteran. Their agent Laura Coyne 1st she tells us she did some work before coming here and did some marketing and have 10 Real offers we could take that day. So we hire her then she says I'm very aggressive so let me negotiate the price try to get you more. Days go by shes still working on it. Finally after a week that "ready to take now" offer was 150k less than she said when i hired her. So realizing she lied i asked to cancel our contract. She starts ghosting me for a week saying in I'm busy, I'm with a client etc etc. string me along for nearly 2 weeks. Mind you I've been sending her text calls and emails asking to cancel our contract since she lied about her "real" offers. She finally totally ghosts me. Ignoring my calls and texts then suddenly after a few days she send me an email saying she refuses to release me. Taunting and gloating that shes going to lock our house down for a year and if i didn't like it to get a lawyer. Taking advantage of the rush deadline i had to sell the house and limited cash for a lawyer And when i contacted her broker Jim Bottrell's office. They took down the report of what happened and said they would call back. Which they haven't. It's been over a week. Ive called twice, sent email. Still no reply. when i called a 3rd time to follow up. My calls were sent to voice mail. read more

This is the worst nightmare I've ever experienced. Selling a house is a very stressful situation but not trusting your real estate agent makes it 100 times worse. I won't name the agent but he works for Jim Bottrell. I contacted Jim's office and they wouldn't return calls. Jim is the broker and says he's a Marine and trustworthy. The agent neglected to remove something from the contract after he said he did. I signed it and low and behold, it's in the contract and cost me $6,000.00. The agent said he could not change the contract. He refused to talk to the buyer. He refused to take it out of the contract after I asked him to. Now I'm stuck with it. This agent seemed to be working for the BUYER, not for me. I would not deal with this company again - EVER - and advise others to steer clear of them. These people are unethical crooks, don't sign anything they put in front of you as they fast talk you and seek to find out information about your personal life, like they care. I thought they were ethical and professional based on how they presented themselves (fancy cars, well dressed, and always pointing to YouTube videos by this Bottrell guy). However, 6 months ago I agreed to have them show my home in the Temecula/Murrieta area. After a short time, I did not like the results (they are hugely into underpricing homes, forcing bidding wars, etc), I also didn't like their CRAZY COSTS. So I told them in writing using the same email that they've contacted me on, to PLEASE delist and I dont want to sell anymore, I'll keep my home. 6months later (Now) I've found a better, smaller & less fancy real estate team, looking to close on the sale of my home and they are telling my current agent that they have a contract to list with me. They did delist all that time, but kept a contract with me???? (who does that unless you're SHADY!!!) YES 6 months or so later after I've asked them to delist and dont want to sell, over and over (in writing). They are seeking money or something. NOT ethical and greedy, or maybe it's the market causing them to be like this (very very shady). I asked them to not to call the first time, but my request was ignored. My phone number is registered with DoNotCall.gov. I hate to leave any negative reviews and it pains me to do so. The reason I chose to write a review is because I gave them every opportunity to make the situation right and I was never contacted. So here it goes. When our realtor Tom met with us initially he made a lot of promises regarding the service he would provide. We discuss in detail my expectations and what he needed from us to have a productive business relationship. We agreed and moved forward. 1. I was adamant on was that I did not want a sign in front of our house. I explained that we weren't sure of when we wanted to put the house on the market but I would like everything ready so that when we give the green light we could go live right away, so we did the pictures and paperwork. Tom assured me that we were going to advertise as a "coming soon" and that we had no obligation to sell. I get a call while I am at work one morning that we have a for sale sign in front of our house. Keep in mind, I had told no one about the sell yet because we still did t have confirmation that we were moving forward with the sale at that point. So we were outted and the blow back from my family and friend was hard to handle. Tom said that it was a miscommunication with his advertising team and then said it must have been a communication misunderstanding between us because "he always puts a for sale sign out on a house being advertised as coming soon". This was not what was discussed at the table and him putting it back on me was not ok! 2. Once we decided to move forward with the sale and we chose a buyer The lack of communication throughout the rest of the process was beyond horrible. He would not answer texts or calls timely. It always seemed like I was bothering him. When I asked questions he got defensive as if I shouldn't question him about the process at all. 3. He didn't communicate any of the request of the buyers realtor - which was a realtor in his same office! 4. And the last straw was that I was never notified or contacted about my house closing escrow. I actually received a "congratulations your house closed" communication from the out of state realtor I was working with to buy my other house!!! I couldn't believe it! I contacted the company to ask to speak with the broker, I asked the buyers realtor - Tom's Peer - to ask the broker to reach out and I have never heard from them at all. This man made a lot of money and handled me and the transaction so poorly. I am beyond disappointed. I have heard advertisements for this company on a talk show I listen to quite frequently and since the talk show host personally recommended them - I trusted them. Boy, was that a mistake! Tom made the transaction so much more stressful on my end that I decided to write this review. So there it is- take it for what it is to you. But if you are like me and you like to understand what it is your getting yourself into - this probably isn't the best company to go with. read more

Think about who pays for all adds? You are! Sure, your house will sell in this real estate environment but can they sell the house more than asking price? Sure, any agent can say it and there is absolutely no proof! Their fee is more than others. I have bought and sold many houses over the years so I know. In reading some of the reviews here, I am reminded that Yelp does not do a great job in policing their website. I see accusations here that the positive reviews of the Jim Bottrell Team were posted by his employees. Who knows, maybe that's happened... but I also know from bitter experience as a former business owner, that low integrity individuals have no qualms posting fictitious reviews trashing their competitors with made up info and bogus claims of negative experiences. OK, enough of that. On to reviewing Jim and his team... and yes, I am a real customer of theirs. Our experience was phenomenal. Jim has a pretty foolproof method of having you determine the best asking price for your home, one that will drive interest and generate offers. Yes, Jim knows what that number is, but rather than tell you, he walks you through the process and gets you there on your own. And once you sign on the dotted line, his team kicks into high gear and things get done. If you have questions, they get answered. In our experience, this is a very professional group of people. Another nice thing is their guarantee - if your house doesn't sell, they will buy it. We never had to worry about that, but it does give you a nice feeling knowing one way or the other, your house is sold. I read one review that kind of went after Jim and his personality - I really dislike that kind of thing, so I will address is directly. Yes, he is a salesman. Yes, he is a marketer. Yes, he has those personality traits... which some people don't like. (So ask yourself this: Do you want to sell you house and get top dollar, or not?) He is also a can-do person. Excuses are not in his lexicon. He is a problem solver, and he gets things done. The thing is, if it requires a "take no prisoners" attitude to get there (and we all know that unfortunately sometimes that's exactly what it takes), that's the attitude that is going to get deployed. If this isn't your style, then perhaps you should consider going with someone else. But, if you sign with the Jim Bottrell Team and these things are brought to bear on your behalf, you're going to appreciate it as you're going to benefit. Oh, and if something does go a bit sideways - and with all the moving pieces in a real estate transaction, this can happen - he'll own it right up front, and he will do whatever he can to fix the problem and make it right. And looking past the nitty gritty details, he and his team are nice people, and they're ethical people, too. OK... adding all that up, what's not to like? So - is Jim and his team for you? Only you can answer that question. But for us, the answer to that is question was a resounding yes! Our house sold, it sold quickly, and we got the price we were looking for... and the escrow process, using the people Jim recommended, went about as well as I've seen an escrow go. Our overall experience was a good one, and I could not possibly give a higher recommendation to anyone looking to sell their home (and if you feel this is a sham review, feel free to read my other reviews on YELP - I am not afraid to call out bad experiences when I have them.) read more

I too was deceived when looking for a home, their price was $100,000 below market value. I wrote to the DRE to see if that was okay, but never heard back. Anyway, I had an appointment to met with an agent at their office in San Marcos. When I got there it was someone else. She never answered me when I asked how long she has been in the business, I later could tell .....not very long. She did work hard to try to find us an affordable home. We found one ourselves in a 55+ community we were looking in that was not listed yet. We used the team member as she did work hard. We had a quick all cash 10 day escrow closing, very easy! .................. Well, they stuck us with the $795.00 transaction coordinator fee! I can find no where in the offer, or escrow instructions where we agreed to pay for that! That is a lot of money for very little work! NOT COOL!!! read more

IF it were possible to give our Jim Bottrell agent FARAH EGLI a ZERO rating - we would... but in order to post a review requires a star rating .. From the very beginning we had second thoughts about her.. but allowed the fact she's an agent for the Bottrell team sway us --BIG MISTAKE. She set a listing price that "seemed" right based on the changing market we were aware of .. We proceeded - they came to take pictures for the listing- - during which time FARAH told us we'd need to Reduce our price by $50k .. we disagreed - but again reluctantly gave in - based on her " knowledge" ... 2nd BIG MISTAKE - then.... a " proof" of the listing was sent to us.. supposedly from Farah... IT WAS VERY CLEAR THAT THE WRITER OF THIS LISTING HAD NEVER SEEN OUR HOME.... so we contacted Farah ... and she had to admit she had passed it off to someone else to write- AND HADN'T EVEN PROOFREAD IT !! at this point - we told her to stop everything- that we wanted to pull the listing (which she had said we could do at any point -- ) because of her negligence and treatment thus far. NEXT THING WE KNEW- there was a sign in our yard!! we contacted Farah and asked that it be removed- and to explain WHY it had even been put there-- she blamed it on someone else- and begged us not to cancel the listing- apologized for her failures- and assured us a she'd be there for us every step of the way - going forward. NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH... she tried to push off Hosting our open houses- tried to push it off on someone else " from the team... " we told her NO- and she very reluctantly ageeed to do it. Well - it turned out THAT THE FIRST COUPLE ON THE DAY OF THE FIRST OPEN HOUSE made an offer ... ! AGAIN- When they asked us to pay approx $25k in buydown fees- FARAH said " Just pay it - or they'll probably back out" it was then that it became obvious To us that Farah was ONLY looking out to protect her commission .. we refused FARAHS advice- raised the price- they agreed - and the offer went through - when the inspector incorrectly stated things that were wrong - Farah advised us to " JUST PAY THEM WHAT THEY ASK " .. She REFUSED to even come and look at proof of the inaccurate claims !! again- just said " just pay them what they want " we submitted proof to the buyers- and again refused to act on FARAHS advice. THIS POOR EXCUSE OF AN AGENT IS REPREHENSIBLE. Once the sale was made - she NEVER gave us the time of day... Wow what a great surprise that was! We decided to hire The Jim Bottrell Team to represent us. After meeting with our agent, it was clear to us that this team is the absolute best in the business. During our initial meeting with our agent, she used a form to take down our exact criteria so he wouldn't waste our time showing us homes that we weren't going to be interested in. She also gave us a presentation on the home-buying process that was extremely detailed and to the point. She explained to us how the process looks from start to finish. She explained to us so many different things that happen during this process like an appraisal, a home inspection, homeowner's insurance, how property taxes are paid for, what an escrow was, what a contingency was in a contract, and so much more. She wasn't like the others that just stopped in and said "let's go look at homes." Unethical, dishonest, misleading, and bait and switch are a few words we would use to sum these agents up. We went to one of their home buying seminars and were told that they would cover our appraisal, that was false. When we first met with Travis from their team he told us we would get $3,000 towards our closing costs, false. Towards the end I contacted my brother in law who is an agent in Wisconsin and he told me everything that they were "getting us" is typical. They'll make it sound like getting the seller to pay for your home warranty and the termite work is this big deal, when my brother in law told us that happens 99% of the time. Their buying back guarantee is a joke. The reason not one person has ever exercised that guarantee is because it would only benefit them, not the consumer. So Travis, you had told us that no one has ever exercised this because they're so happy with their home when in fact, no one has exercised your guarantee because it benefits you, not us. They'll tell you that they will get you this amazing deal, when really, when we submitted our offer, we were told we had to come up an extra 8,000 to get our offer accepted. They will literally tell you anything just to make a quick sell (bait and switch). We wish we would have realized who these scam artists really were before it was almost time to get keys. The funniest thing is when we were a day away from getting our keys, they sent us an email with a review that THEY had drafted up themselves and asked us to copy and paste it in Zillow. I found this hysterical because when we met them in the beginning they showed us their amazing reviews, come to find out they are the ones writing them up.
