One of the coolest bars in the neighborhood with some serious burgers from Strange Flavor Burger Shack at the food truck in front. I ended up liking my veggie burger so much, I came back a week later for another one. Strange Flavor's menu is succinct and they're blowing it out of the water. I've had both the Chop Burger and the Pop's Burger, both vegetarian, and they were stellar. The Chop Burger has such a unique flavor profile with peanuts, cilantro-scallion, mustard, mala glaze. A little heat, a little sweet and a delicious topping for the 2 patties. The Chop Burger, (pictured), I got after a night of drinking so my review is essentially - YUM ITS A CLASSIC AND I WANT TWO MORE. Strange Flavor cranks out the burgers quickly and its great you can take to go to eat at the bar - which is a cool as heck bar inside. I've been to the bar itself a few times sans burgers, and it does get a little busy on the weekends, but it is such a beautiful and big space. The service is honestly great for the volume of people that are in at any given night and I will always want to come back. read more

Probably my favorite local bar. Three dollar pbrs are great when everything has been quickly rising in price every time you stop somewhere. Their painkillers used to be $6 but now its around $9. Its ok. I just need my PBRS. The bar is pretty chill. Theres good food by the entrance. Its actually its own entity and they have good burgers and fried chicken thigh sandiwches. The bar is pretty divey and I wouldnt recommend getting cocktails. Just go get your beers and hang out. Service has been pretty decent too. People are pretty chill. read more

Stopped by for a couple of drinks before heading to a show over at the Mirage. The place was PACKED, but had a pretty interesting setup with the bar being all the way in the back. The decor was a lot of fun (won't spoil anything) and the drinks were reasonably priced and stiff (keeping in mind it's divey). My favorite was the frozen pain killer. Bartender was nice, but felt bad for her because she obviously seemed overwhelmed due to the amount of people all wanting to order drinks at the same time. I went into the Johnsons once, waiting 20 minutes at the bar for a simple beer on a Thursday while the bartender was conversing the entire time and didn't even notice I had come in. After asking for a beer and she seems to have an attitude, i asked if everything was alright. She got very upset that I was asking. I then asked if it was her job that was causing her to be like this. Next thing I know, the girl is getting angry/offended and calling back up to kick me out of the bar which I have since been banned from. I wasn't showing a single sign of aggression, just seems like they didn't want me sitting there anymore (great rule as an establishment!) This is extremely unwelcoming and unsettling being that I'm a proud Bushwick local and live a couple of doors down. Now, it turns out, I can't enjoy drinks with my friends who want to go play pool at the Johnson's all because this one bartender had a chip on her shoulder. I do NOT recommend this bar because unless you look and speak like the people working there, you WILL NOT FEEL WELCOME! Someone please talk to the staff about this selective treatment because as far as I know, it's a POOR business model! Oh and by the way, the girl with the black hair and the devil horns tattoo on her chest is one of the rudest people let alone bartenders i have ever encountered. Her and her sidekick barback are non-confrontational especially when I've respectfully asked why I'm not allowed to go there anymore. There should at least be an explanation, but no... it's your typical avoidant behavior you'd expect from folks like this. A cool spot for a great burger! Last night I came in with my wife and another couple to grab a late bite (11pm-ish) after a show at Company XIV down the street. This was the second time we've done this and it was another delicious experience, which proved that this place is worth a review! The decor is just spot-on, with the most retro feel and good music all evening. And the burgers were ON POINT! Add to that a crunchy-yet-pillowy corn dog, and serious animal style fries (not pictured), and this is a perfect place for a late-night hang. This place rules. I wouldn't necessarily consider it a dive bar, but it is a very cozy, vintage inspired bar, with decor including old VHS tapes playing on TV's, as well as a pool table in the back. The drinks are great, bartenders are quick and kind. Prices are actually very fair, considering its placement in the heart of Bushwick. I will be back, and I always recommend this spot to my friends in the city. read more

Had a very strange experience here a few years ago. I had read the reviews prior to coming here, but my group and I decided to give it a shot anyways. There were about 4 of us, all on separate tabs and all ordered about 2-3 beer & shot combos. When we got our tabs back, all of them were the same except for my boyfriends, who also happened to be the only black person in our group. I remember asking the bartender why his was more expensive and after examining the itemized receipt he received a little closer it was because they had already included the tip :) This probably goes without saying, but we haven't been back here since. Drinks are cheap and fine but the staff is really rude. The first time I came her, I had a beer and some food and the food guy came and cleared the dishes and took my unfinished beer as well. When I realized he had taken it a few seconds later and ran to the kitchen, he had just poured it out and refused to give me a new one because he said I should have noticed and said something. The second time I came here, I tried to order two drinks for me and my boyfriend and when I went up the bartender said she needs to see an ID for each drink, which is reasonable. My boyfriend recently lost his ID and is clearly over 30 so he didn't have it, and she yelled at me "YEAH THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT!" Well this used to be my favorite bar in Bushwick. Pre pandemic and certainly when it first opened it was super cool and a walk back in time. You were transported to your parents and grandparents 1970's basement, pool table and all. They did a really good job with the decor and the vibe. Sadly, now it's just a trashy dive bar. It's lost its charm and nostalgia. The place seems run down and the bathrooms are gross. It went from class to trash. I hope they find their way back to what they once were. read more

I think you gotta take The Johnson's for what it is: the $2 beer place. I really like the aesthetic of The Johnson's! I feel like the cheap drinks attract more of the dive bar crowd, but it doesn't feel so dive-y because the design is so well thought out. This spot has a lot of bad reviews and... honestly, the claims have been quite harsh! Yay. I'm first! So apparently this is the Bushwick version of the LES' Welcome To The Johnson's, and it just opened in mid-December. I went here last Sunday because they had a sign outfront that said "liquid brunch." I'm apparently out of the loop because I found out that liquid brunch just means drink specials for the whole time, and doesn't actually offer food. In fact, this place doesn't have any real "food food," but they do have bar snacks, like the really good kettle chips, and some hard boiled eggs, and the like. It's essentially a divey cocktail spot, that brings the 70s back to life with it's decor. Since it was liquid brunch time, we got their $10 cocktails for $5, but they also had $3 wells and $2 beers too. Not bad from 1-9pm on a relatively snowy Sunday. There's also a pay to play pool table if you're in the mood...and a VERY cool outdoor area, that certainly wasn't being used because it's NYC and it's freezing, but I'm sure will be prime real estate come spring and summer time. The place is SUPER new too, it still has that new bar smell (the bathroom didn't even have a sign on it when i went) and a cool vibe to it. I like it. Check it out. read more

Perhaps my opinion of The Johnson's is a bit biased, because for the full duration of my visit I sat like a conquering hero in the gloriously comfortable hanging chairs on the patio in front. My lowly subjects (read: friends) brought me multiple alcoholic beverages that I could place in the dual cupholders of my throne, and then they sat nearby, indulging my every whim and hanging on my every word. So I really like this place. It's the polar opposite of its sister bar in the LES, but I have a soft spot for both. I don't think I've ever ordered anything other than well drinks during happy hour at Welcome to the Johnson's, but here I enjoyed some sort of mojito thing, a nice bottle of Lagunitas, and multiple shots of Fernet. They do a good job behind the bar. I gave up huffing bleach a long time ago, so the only downside of the whole experience was when they inexplicably started mopping the floors at 11 pm on a Saturday (the whole floor, this wasn't spill cleanup). But honestly, there are much worse things that bars have done to me. read more

Due to all the good reviews, I thought this would be a great place to get a tasty cocktail and play a round of pool. I thought wrong. First of all, the happy hour cocktails I got (Paloma & Sazerac Sling) straight up tasted HORRIBLE. Worst cocktails I've ever had (not kidding and the bf agreed)--super unbalanced and very bitter. I have a feeling the blonde lady bartender did not know what she was doing because I'm sure they should've been better than they were. We really didn't want to drink them. The bartender definitely had some attitude although it wasn't super busy. She was obviously friends with/knew the guys playing pool who were planning on hogging it so we didn't even bother. I liked the appearance of the place and the music but for a place that's categorized as a cocktail bar to have really terrible cocktails, I can only give it one star. read more

Finished a street art walking tour and needed a bathroom. Was sent to Johnson's and the bartender had NO problem letting me use the bathroom. Sometimes you get an attitude when you ask to use the bathroom, she was like no problem! Felt I should reward her so I stayed for a drink after. Turns out it was happy hour, and I could have a $2 beer. Not bad. Didn't catch the bartender's name but she was super nice, and we chatted about our lack of Halloween plans. This place is one of my favorite in Brooklyn. I'm so happy it made it through the pandemic. Truly the best bar in Brooklyn. They are so honest and kind. They lost my ticket for my food order and I had to wait over an hour for it. To apologize they paid outright for it with drinks on the house. They are truly the best kind of people. The first time I came to Johnson's I really just wanted to have some fries. I love the decor and even though it's a dive bar it doesn't feel like it. It's filled with hipsters on the weekends, but doesn't get insanely overcrowded, which I love. The drinks aren't too expensive, $6 during happy hour (every day 5-9) or $8 otherwise. Unfortunately, their drinks don't taste good. I ordered a Poloma and my boyfriend hit the ---- sunset. Both drinks were pretty awful, but at least they were strong. The atmosphere is awesome, but the booze sucks. Not sure how I feel about that, especially since it's super close to my apartment. The Strange Flavor Burger Shack is tucked inside and definitely gives this place a bonus. The place is divided into two sections; there's the back, where the bar is, and there are half a dozen cozy booths. It's dimly lit and intimate. There's even a pool table in the back! The front room has the burger shack and several cool seating spots. There's a giant wooden platform, a long table and some swinging chairs. I'm absolutely crazy about the swinging chairs! So like I've said, it's a cool place, but I wish the drinks were better! It has great potential. read more

The Johnson's is a solid neighborhood bar. It's a staple for me, whether I'm looking to day drink or for a casual night out. The drinks are cheap, and for the most part pretty strong. They have a frozen drink for like $6 during happy hour which is delicious and packed with enough vodka that you don't need more than one or two. If that's not your speed they always have Lion Hearts available for a whooping $2. The front section feels like the BK sister of any trendy East Village dive bar. It has it's light up sign and large swing chairs perfect for instagram. But the back is dark and dingy with a pool table, booths, leather chairs, and the large bar area. So it's basically the best of both worlds. I really do love this place. That said, I once broke a glass here and when I asked for a broom to clean up the glass they said they didn't have one....so there's that. read more

A great little find in Bushwick. I recommend coming here if you're ever in the area. Not to far from the L train either which is great for those who don't live in the area. I loved the vibe of this place. Super retro feel in a great way. Drinks were also super cheep which is always a good thing! I went on a like Tuesday night and it was pretty popular, but not in an obnoxious way. There were seats open and we were able to grab a booth for four people. The bartenders were friendly and we were able to get our drinks pretty fast. The menu looked like there were some cool drink specials I didn't get to try out but would love to come back. Overall I really enjoyed coming here, it was great fun for a Tuesday night. Would like to see what it's like on a weekend. read more
