I'm finally writing this long overdue review. This is the first time I'm looking at Yelp to see what other people are saying about this legendary pub in Williamsburg Brooklyn, and wow ... I see soooooooo many 1 star reviews saying exactly what I'm about to talk about--- Oliver and the security guard-- THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!!!! I found this place to be very interesting from hearing about the Free Pizza, which by the way all of a sudden was not free after the first few times I came--- but the behaviour of the staff who I just found out the other night the bartender whose name is Oliver is actually the goddamn manager and the owner is basically absentee owner so Oliver is the one in charge... imagine that ??? I have been going to bars, pubs and dive bars all over the country for the better part of the last 25 years and I've never been so rudely mistreated by any establishment like this-- what I'm going to review here is the truth and actually very shocking almost criminal.... First and foremost, when you walk in, there's always some hood security guard ( yes hood ) who actually blocked the door as if you're doing something wrong as soon as you open the door and demands to see identification... I'm approximately 50 years old even though I look younger I'm certainly not having the appearance of somebody under 21 years of age. I've never actually had my ID checked BY ANYONE PROBABLY IN THE LAST 20 YEARS... But on one particular occasion, which happens in January 2025 the security guard was actually sleeping when I opened the door which was a relief to me since I didn't have to deal with this interrogation... I reiterate I absolutely don't mind showing my ID but the way the guy does it is as if I'm doing something wrong as soon as I walk in... however this night that I'm writing about which was my last time there until two nights ago the guy was actually sleeping so I go to the bar and guess what happens.... He actually wakes up and approaches me at the bar and accuses me of sneaking in and not wanting to show my ID ! This was shocking and ridiculous and resulted in an argument.... Now let's get to Oliver... typical hipster European blonde in appearance. I find out the other night that he's actually the manager and he is indeed Hungarian in German. I gave the best description I could to the Pizza man who was probably one of the nicest people I've spoken to there, which was two nights ago. This guy Oliver could not be more repulsive and rude as if he didn't want me there for God knows what reason... absolutely no smile almost no eye contact and actually mimic me when I told him whatever I was telling him and that okay whatever this is this is the protocol of checking identification and all of that stuff, then God forbid I asked for the ticket for the Pizza. He acted as if I was asking for something I was not entitled to... This has been my experience with Oliver every single time I've been there and I can see many many other people are saying the same thing... absolutely zero customer service or social skills and I am a customer I am extremely friendly and I'm even smiling and there's absolutely no reason to be mistreated or made to feel unwelcome... by myself of good appearance, but I am not a hipster perhaps I'm not the type that they want in there?? that would probably be illegal for them to state that.... The pizza I got that night was absolutely horrendous. The photograph in the first is from January 2025 and it looks like something that was frozen. Let's compare it to the new picture from three nights ago and you can see the huge difference. Fast forward to July 2026, came in on a night that Oliver happens to not be working, I did not know this walking in it was just my luck that he happened to not be working that particular night.... The bartender this time around was extremely nice and welcoming and resembled Filipino just to give a description. The pie man I can see in the reflection of the kitchen refrigerator steel that he was actually making the pizza which I was shocked so I started talking with him about it and the Pizza man that night was extremely nice and gave me all of this information that Oliver is the actual manager and in charge and the owner of the place, obviously probably lives in the Bahamas or Florida or something and is never there.... read more

There's nothing like a dive bar with free pizza. My go-to is usually Alligator Lounge, but it's in the far east of Williamsburg, so pretty excited to discover Charleston located right off the L train. It's a chill dive bar with skeeball and karaoke nights. Happy hour runs from 12-7pm daily with $1 off draft and well drinks plus FREE pizza! Even after happy hour, their pizzas are only $1 including the ones with toppings. This is such an amazing deal and the pizza is pretty great, especially after some drinks. Plus, they have one of my favorite bottle of Jameson Orange, which I don't see available at many bars. I'm excited to add Charleston to my rotation of Williamsburg bars now. read more

One of the coolest, laid back dive bars I've been to in a while. The bartenders were great and attentive, taking their time to chit chat while ensuring you're well taken care of. Such a fun atmosphere with the skee ball in the back and GREAT music playing throughout the speakers. A bar that has good music taste is always a win in my book! Extra points for the free pizza you can get when ordering a drink during a specific time. Is the pizza the best? Definitely not, but that free pie of dough with cheese and sauce will fill your stomach enough to keep the night at Charleston going! read more

Finally tried this place after having it bookmarked on Google maps for a while. My wife and I came and got two $7 Guinness and 2 free pizzas for ~$18. If you add a toppings (pepperoni, sausage, jalepeno, mushroom, pineapple, etc.) it's just $1! The pizza dough was actually thin and crispy and the pepperoni I added gave it a good flavor. The staff was friendly and the bar had a small outdoor area which so we were able to enjoy with our dog. Definitely coming back when we're in Williamsburg! read more

Terrible experience. Security allowed us into the bar after checking IDs--my valid passport was accepted, and my friend also presented his ID on his phone. Once inside, I ordered my drink without any issues and everything seemed fine at first. However, after my friend had already taken a sip of his drink, a bartender suddenly came over and took both of our drinks because my friend did not have a physical ID on him. This felt inconsistent and unfair, especially since security had already cleared us for entry and I had proper identification. The situation felt unprofessional and unnecessary, and it completely killed the vibe of the night. It also left me feeling uncomfortable, as the handling of the situation came across as discriminatory. Overall, very disappointing experience. I won't be coming back. read more

This is a super divey dive bar that you'd typically see in the East Village. The sign says that they have been open since 1933 and it appears that nothing has been changed since then either. The paint is peeling and the leg on the table we sat at was wobbly. But if laid back dive bars are your thing, this is the place. Drinks are cheap and they also sell cheap pizza here too. They should add more games though. They only have one shooting arcade machine and two skeeball machines. Darts or a pool table would be a welcome addition. read more

Dive bar on Bedford. If you come before 7pm, you get a free cheese pizza with drink purchase. Toppings are $1 extra. Get your drink, ask for a ticket and you'll be able to get your pizza. For a free pizza, it's pretty good. Thin and crispy, personal pie sized. Not too oily. Good snack with a beer. Service is pretty cut and dry. Bartender was a bit rude but it's a pretty divey bar so as long as she brings me my Stella, eh it's whatever. read more

This fucking joint. I've heard stories. You've heard stories. You've smelled this place and all it's forms. Frankly, this fucking vestige has become absolutely fantastic. The pours are proper and the selection is traditional to dive standards. Zophia is a friend who showed me some vital drinking lessons more than a decade ago. But what struck me was the god damn slices. The Croc, Alligator slice gimmick slice is cute. But the pizza here is surprisingly fantastic. Will return. Probably to switch to Powers. read more

Don't think I'd ever go in here if it wasn't suggested to me by someone else but it's a solid dive bar on Bedford. I have no idea how crowded it gets, but given that they do pizzas with drinks (like Alligator lounge) I imagine it to be a hot spot for many. It was pretty quiet on the night I went in with a few others. Pizza is solid, thin and crispy, overall pretty good pizza for it being free with a drink. I believe it's an additional dollar if you want toppings. Not sure what games they have, but spotted some people playing jenga. read more

I was skeptical about coming to this place at first but it ended up being a really fun vibe. I didnt get anything off menu but the bartender was nice enough to make me some special order cocktails and they were actually pretty tasty. We were easily able to grab seats at the bar on a Thursday night but get there early because it gets pretty packed closer to 10pm. The Karaoke was a surprise and so fun and hilarious, definitely a great way to let loose afterwork. Next time I visit I will play the games in the back and try some of the pizza! read more

As we ended up there due to the fellas acknowledgment of the place which they have been there before . When I went it I can tell it was a dive bar nothing wrong w that. I go to the bar and I see there is only one bartender for that whole bar on a Sunday when playoffs being shown. Stood there for quite some time waiting to be served. Then I'm looking around I see a sign that says happy hour DAILY until 7pm. I'm like oh cool I can get that with a complimentary pizza for the guys that were hungry . The bartender finally approaches me and i order and ask her if there's happy hour and she says no. So why have a sign up saying daily until 7pm and it was around 6ish when we got there. But I'm like whatever orders my drinks and went back to my friends. We there talking laughing as everyone does at a bar. A guy had the audacity to come over with a hood on and earphones and tell us that we are being too loud talking and laughing wtf we was in shock like wait what then someone says he's the bouncer or whatever even worse what kind of people work in this place is a damn bar we there to unwind and have a good time. The audacity to tell us to quiet down is not a library. I would not go there ever the ambiance service was not good. They need some manners and customer service teaching. Never was treated like that. I had decent hopes for this place. It had fine reviews and perks like free pizza but the service was beyond terrible. It strated off when we went to order drinks at the bar top. While the bartop was full, the bartender was in no rush to move quick and greet us. She took her sweet time pouring 2 beers. Finally when she came over we ordered two cosmos and a peach ring drink. She suggested the cucumber cosmo and said it tasted really good (absolut cucumber vodka). We went with her suggestion. With each drink you get a free ticket for a pizza but she didn't offer that right away. I had to ask about it when she came back to the other end of the bar where we were. Upon taking the first sips of the cucumber cosmo, we both thought it tasted nasty. We thought it was super sweet and the cucumber did not mix well. After a second sip, my friend said it was too sweet and she couldn't drink it. I decided I'd power through and drink mine but said ill talk to the bartender and exchange hers. I went to the bar and waited as she again took her sweet time. I spoke very politely (because I know returning things can come off as annoying) and said the drink tasted too sweet and if it it could be changed for a Stella instead (didnt want to risk getting another cocktail that was too sweet and tasted bad). She looked at the drink and made the loudest, obnoxious lough and said, "ha! she already drank half of it." I said, "uh no, that's not half of the drink. it was barely two sips." She she said, "well ill put more cranberry in it." "I said no, its already too sweet, just the Stella (the cranberry also tasted like fake puree not juice, so no she didn't want more cranberry). She then grabbed a beer glass and said "well you're not getting a full glass, I'm only giving you half." Then she put the glass down and walked away. I said that's so ridiculous and walked off. How disgusting! Who does that? If a paying customer doesn't like something, you should make it better. If you're personally responsible for making a nasty drink, fix it! I'd even take a fake, "oh no, sorry," but the sass was unbelievable. After finishing the half Stella, we asked for the check (which took time to be handed over and then charged) and I took it back to the table. Because i left to the table with the check, within two seconds, the bartender was right next to the table cleaning up and claiming the stuff can't leave the bar. How can cups and plates not leave the bar top when they are tables all throughout the pub? She had her hands full and just hovered over the table while I was calculating the check for a tip. She refused to move. I took my time, went on my phone so she said she'd be right back. She quickly went to put cups down on the bar and rushed back to hover over me again as I signed the bill. I know she really wanted to just see what was left and as soon as I gave her the bill, she paused before walking away and read the bill. That's obnoxious. You don't hover over someone to see how much money they left you. and I dont know what she was expecting but she was not getting an excellent service worthy tip. So drinks were really bad and the service was really atrocious. The thing that bumped the review up to two stars instead of one was the free pizza. Looking for a cool dive bar with cheap well drinks with some pizza to hold you down this is the place... literally stumbled in here with my girls starting our night of drinking and boy was this is a good start. Our bartender was very cool and social. I started with a beer and shot high life with a shot of tequila. Cheap drinks but literally the worst service I've ever gotten. There is one bartender that literally sits on her phone the entire time. Every now and then when I'm waiting for a drink she looks up and smiles at me and then goes right back to texting. It's honestly insane. They serve pizza for $1 with your drink purchase and it's not great but well worth it for the price. Drinks are pretty irregularly priced. Most of the cocktails on their menu are on the super low end around $8-10 so I assumed a martini wouldn't be that much and then I got hit with a $16 bill :/ not the end of the world but not the cost I would expect from a dive bar. I'll probably be back - it's conveniently located, the free/cheap pizza is a huge perk, and they always have seating available. It was my first time coming here and I'm so glad I found this place! The interior seems like a normal bar the moment you step in, however they also have a few games in the back if that's more your vibe. The best thing about this bar however is the fact that they give you a free (cheese) pizza with each purchase of any drink!! You're able to add any of their available toppings for $1! You could basically get full from buying 2-3 drinks. The pizza was pretty decent sized as well, enough to fill you up if you're not too hungry. That being said, this is a hole in the wall type of joint and is getting reviewed as one. Don't come here expecting egg whites on your farm grown apricot mixed drink. This is a well drink and beer type of joint that delivers. Toppings on the pizza will cost you 1 buck per topping but it's still a bargain. The Charleston is a dope hang out dive bar in the Williamsburg section of BK. A friend of mine introduced me to this spot a few months back and not that I was surprised being that Williamsburg has been on the come up of hang out areas outside of Manhattan but was pleased with my recent outings here. Diverse patrons, cool bar tenders, inexpensive drinks and the top part...you get a pizza, yes a pizza pie (although small) with every drink you order. Just make sure you ask for a pizza ticket with your order. Very well worth it as the pizza is fresh out of the oven and very good, especially if you're already had a good amount of drinks to prep you up for consumption. Now honestly, I am not one to really hang out in Brooklyn like that but for the times anyone I hang with say they wanna hang out and drinks in BK I will gladly suggest this place. I've been to the Charleston a handful of times and each time I'm here I still feel the same sense of comradery when inside. It's a cool, no frills, dive bar conveniently located a block away from the Bedford Avenue L stop. Whenever I arrive to Williamsburg earlier than I need to be I end up coming here to grab a drink to kill time. I've also been here with friends to grab drinks and enjoy their small arcade section in the back. Each time we're able to find space to relax and don't feel like the music is too loud, or that the crowd is too boisterous. They also give coupons for a free personal pizza with your drink during happy hour throughout the week. They also have this promotion at various times throughout the weekend as well. The staff here was also very attentive from the moment I walked in. They got my drinks to me fast and were also quick in getting me the check when I was done. First off, when I've arrived at the bar the lady that bartend us was rude when we asked for three shots. When announced for last call we placed an order. She refused to serve us because she said " we didn't tip her" after giving an attitude when we ordered only 3 shots. We told her why and she called one of our friends a "dub". We complained about it and all they said was "it was up to the bartenders" why would we tip someone who has an attitude after we were respectful to her. It was unprofessional and after asking her why she didn't want to serve us, she said "ya didn't tip". The service was horrible from the beginning and the attitude was unnecessary. Non of us were intoxicated before ordering and she didn't even seem to want to be there. 0 stars for this place. read more
