We looked at this place as a potential wedding venue and didn't like it. Ceremony site: There are two options: 1. Inside the main hall, seating for about 80 (everyone else has to stand). 2. Outside the building in the back. There's a beautiful view with a tree and a waterfall, but the water is quite loud (as in, the ceremony would have to be mic'd) and the space really isn't suited for a large group. Reception: The main hall is a gorgeous Civil War-era building that used to be a factory. It has the original wood flooring, high ceilings painted white, and decorated with wonderful antique rowing items. However, the rest of the space is decorated like a grandmother's living room. It's kitchy, and not in that good way. Fake flowers, bad carpets, and stuffy antique furniture. It's too bad, because if the space was decorated more cleanly, I think it would be much more appealing. Overall: We just didn't like the overall feel of the place. It would possibly be better for a smaller wedding where the couple's tastes matched up more with the space. read more

I had an absolutely incredible time planning my July 16th wedding at Jones River Trading for 110 guests. I opted to go with the package that includes catering, cake, DJ, flowers, invitations, and a champagne toast. I don't have a single bad thing to say about any of the vendors included in the package; they were all professional, responsive, and took great care to ensure they understood what my husband and I were imagining. The food and wait staff service was phenomenal (Plymouth Bay Catering), the cake was beautiful, delicious, and whimsical like we wanted (Piece of Cake), the flowers were gorgeous and fresh-cut (The Candy Jar Florist), and DJ Scott really adhered to our Please Play and Please Do Not Play lists. The venue is full of natural light and eclectically decorated with nautical and maritime historical memorabilia. The original floors and high ceiling of the building are breathtaking, and the waterwheel outside is an idyllic spot for an outdoor ceremony. It is a visually interesting venue on its own, which spares you from having to decorate or provide expensive uplighting. We didn't decorate much at all, and the space didn't look bare. Mary, my wedding coordinator, really took to heart my one request. I told her I would rather have an imperfect detail here or there than be overstressed. Mary not only managed the timing and execution of a flawless wedding, but she was a relaxed, positive, and excited presence throughout the planning process. At the wedding, I just kept being told in whispered tones the same thing: "This is the nicest wedding I've ever attended!". I've personally attended several weddings of close friends lately, and I know for a fact we spent significantly less for an exponentially more upscale event. We had our wedding here in September 2011 and it was absolutely perfect. We had 105 guests. Due to gorgeous weather, we were able to have the ceremony outside. Yes, the water out back is a little loud and we did need to have microphones, but it was gorgeous! About 50 people were seated and the rest stood around. The reception was also perfect. Meg and Tom were amazing hosts, going above and beyond. The space was also amazing - very unique and needing very little in terms of decorating. The bar is also quite beautiful. And Plymouth Bay Catering were great - very accommodating and we received many compliments on the menu, the venue and all the staff. (And they've gotten rid of the cheesy light green carpeting on the front stairs - the entrance looks much nicer!) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the venue for any kind of function. My friend recently got married here, this place & furniture was dated as well as several wobbly chairs. The staff seemed extremely annoyed and bothered by doing their job. The food was just ok and was severed by a man that looked like he had a fight with the pasta and the pasta won. The bartender thought it was sanitary to serve pieces of lime and lemons with her hands that she was also counting cash with yuck! My friend was gorgeous and gracious as well as her guests, as we were there to celebrate her and her new husband. That's what got us through. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME LOOKING AT THIS PLACE! read more

I got married here back in 2009 and I thought the place was great!! It was a great location if you are not looking for the typical 'country club' feel venue. Yes, the place is different and unique , but it works. And it can host big weddings, probably not 300 but it can easily fit a 100 guest wedding. Plus, there is a nice outdoor area for pictures. Meg and Tom who run the place will work with you all the way to the end. They will answer all your questions and will help out with anything you need. Their prices are fair and to be honest was the cheapest place we found. The only downside, they only work with Plymouth Bay Caterers, which was OK. Five stars is not enough to rate the quality business that is the Jones River Trading Post. Our wedding day was nothing short of perfect thanks to all of the hard working staff that pulled every last detail together. Mary was absolutely phenomenal as our coordinator and even when it was raining out, went along with our wish to have or ceremony outside! Lucky for us, the rain stopped and the sun broke through just in time for the ceremony and some quick pictures before pouring down again! Everyone we worked with was fantastic and incredibly helpful with all of our questions. Our guests have been raving about our wedding saying it was the best they have ever been to! Plymouth Bay Catering did incredible with the food and all of the vendors through the champagne package were top notch. We wish we could do it all again and again! Yes the venue is nice, outdated but nice- but good luck working with the managers/owners on your wedding. Communication is barely there, you cannot reach them directly and have to wait 2-3 days for a phone call back, if they even give you a call back. If you are working with them on a wedding during a global pandemic make it known they are not on your side, and you will not get any money back even when they cant legally host your wedding. BE CAREFUL! To start off I booked my wedding date in September 2018 for my wedding to be September 2019. I ultimately had to change the date and called two weeks later, which I called multiple times to verify my new October 2019 date is and remained available, and they said was no problem at all and they were very accommodating... Fast forward 5 or 6 months later, I have all my vendors, my dress, the save the dates just got to my house and I get a phone call saying my wedding date was double booked and since I booked second I loose my date. When I asked how this happened they did not have a clear explanation. I met with the general manager to try and figure out a new date and he had the audacity to say it was my fault this happened because I changed the date, and because he didn't book anyone for my original date he's loosing money for that date too. Even though I called soon after and it seemed he was grasping for what he could. He said the only compensation he could give me was passed sangria at cocktail hour which I didn't want. We left it at that, and me and my fiancé went home to think and to gather myself so I didn't freak out, and called back on a later date. I called back to say that I should be getting some sort of compensation for this happening which he was still saying he couldn't do (which is even harder to hear when you've worked in catering and know that is not true) and that he really doesn't make any money off weddings there.... AND kept saying how it was still my fault for this happening because I changed the date, to which I told him to stop saying because it was 100% their fault for being unorganized, and it is insulting that he is even saying that to me. So ultimately I told him I did not want to book with them... which he told me that I need to talk to my fiancé first about this... Which did not go over well with me. So overall I got my money back and was compensated for my save the dates (which at first I only got a check for my deposit and had to call back about where my save the date money was). Me and my fiancé also went to another venue for a tour and the event coordinator heard our story and had heard similar stories (pleural) about this venue double booking. I found another venue which is much better but I have to plan a new wedding now for June 2020 prolonging my engagement and making this whole wedding planning experience a nightmare. I heard good things about this place prior to booking with them, but once this happened bad stories kept coming out of the woodwork so beware. read more

Planned and hosted my sister's shower here and it was fantastic! Gorgeous location, flexible and helpful owners, tasty food. Everyone had a blast (yes, at a bridal shower) and loved the venue. I was curious to see what was up w/ the two negative reviews and cannot help but wonder if the wedding that was cancelled was because of Hurricane Irene? Town of Kingston had no power for several days- bad timing for a wedding for sure. Anyway, Tom and Meg were attentive, courteous, and did everything possible to make our experience amazing. I had a wedding recently at the Jones River Trading. My experience as the bride was great-staff was friendly and attentive. They were accommodating and also incredibly helpful. Prices are reasonable, especially for the venue itself. They don't charge more for holding the ceremony on site and price is the same no matter what day the event is. Our guests raved about the food and the atmosphere. It is a truly unique and beautiful space. We received so many compliments-everyone had a wonderful time and was impressed with the entire event. Jones River was a beautiful setting for our April 30th wedding. Everyone was so kind and helpful! The food was phenomenal and we received so many compliments on the unique setting! Mark was great with the planning and knew so much about what we should choose for our meal options! Make sure to ask his opinion for food selections because he knows what he is talking about!! Mary was our day-of-coordinator and I cannot even express in words what an amazing job she does. She ensured EVERYTHING went smoothly the day of! From our first phone conversation the week prior, I knew Mary would be such a great fit for us! She was so incredibly calm, which made me feel at such ease, and she had such a fun personality. I can't thank her enough for what a WONDERFUL job she did! The staff the day of were also incredible! Everyone seemed so happy to be helping us with anything we needed! There was never a line at the bar and the appetizers and dinners were served promptly (and at the perfect temperature). All of our guests had an absolute blast! We had our wedding at Jones River Trading on October 28th. A friend told me about it when I got engaged, and we went to check it out. It was the first and only venue we looked at. We knew immediately that it was the right place. We lucked out with perfect weather and were able to have the ceremony out back. It's really a beautiful spot. Mark, Mary and Michelle were great to work with. Mark helped us with our menu, and helped save us money wherever he could. We opted for the Smokehouse Buffet, and it was delicious! We got tons of compliments on the food, which was done by their exclusive caterer, Plymouth Bay Catering Company. Mary and Michelle were the wedding coordinators, and they were awesome! They helped with the rehearsal, the ceremony and the reception. I had an extremely large wedding party and they did a great job getting everyone organized and in the right spot. We had a number of things to bring home with us after the wedding, but were staying in a hotel didn't have a car to transport everything. Michelle was kind enough to meet us back at Jones River the following day (her day off) so that we could pack the stuff up. We had a perfect day. read more

This place, everything about the entire day/night/wedding/rehearsal/etc, was perfect! I am the younger sister of the groom and I was a bridesmaid in the wedding, so I feel the need to post about the amazing night :) The food was AMAZING!! The turkey tips were to die for, the roast beef was so smokey, the cheese and crackers were devoured, and just everything was mouthwatering. The cake looked delicious, but I do not eat sweets so cannot comment on the taste. The buffet style was the best way to go and it was all you can eat type of situation which is what I loved! Mary, the woman who was running everything was great and catered very well to my brother and his new wife, as well as to the bridal party and guests. There was a change made to have the ceremony indoors as it was raining, but that decision was made an hour and a half prior to guests arriving and it was not on the invite that it would be outdoors, so it didn't cause any problems. Changing to indoors was quick, easy, and done very professionally with no issue. Mary was smiling and joking throughout the entire night, and was very good at keeping everything going. This was one of the most amazing weddings I have been to and the whole thing was done beautifully and I know it was exactly what my brother and now sister wanted as I was told by both of them after. I helped with the seating arrangements, and some other items, so I know it was the perfect night! To anyone looking at this place as a venue, you will not go wrong with the people, place, or food because all of it was incredible. The night went off without any problems, everyone was fantastic that worked there, and everyone was so happy with the entire thing! I was here twice as a photographer and the place is unique and great. It is the only venue where the motif is boating and they have 30 foot kayaks hanging from the ceiling. The ceremony is usually held at the back where there is a river with a dam. This is quite unique as aside from the small dam backdrop, you can hear the sounds of the water. There is also a big tree where the justice of the peace, the bride and groom will be under.Lots of parking in front too. For this, I give it a 4 stars. This is roland of roland video and photo. These are very unscrupulous business people. Due to a storm THEY canceled a wedding event on THE MORNING OF THE WEDDING! To add insult to injury, they also refuse to refund the newlywed's money. I understand that everyone's experience will be different, however if someone is considering this venue, take into consideration that if there are ANY problems Jones River will keep your money no matter what. read more

I was shocked to read the bad reviews of Jones River Trading. They did an absolutely amazing job with my wedding. They are very reasonably priced and so was the caterer they suggested- I wasn't forced into choosing anything I didn't want to. They were very open to all of my ideas & were so accommodating. The space is breathtaking and perfect for a nautical themed wedding because of the gorgeous row boat hanging from the ceiling & the multitude of antique lanterns. Plus the river & waterfall is great for pictures. The Plymouth Bay catering company is the caterer the recommend and they were fantastic as well. Andrew was our wedding coordinator and he went above and beyond his job description to make sure we were happy. The food was amazing! We went with 3 appetizers- my favorite being the mini artisan pizzas which they passed around on wooden pizza paddles. For dinner we had a strawberry summer salad to start followed by the guests choice of stuffed chicken or a half top sirloin- both were delicious & I am still receiving compliments 2 weeks after our wedding. read more

It was the day of hurricane Irene but in the area there was only rain. Now they refuse to refund the money. Everybody was very disappointed. I went to a wedding here recently and although I thought the venue site was nice, myself and the entire table thought the food was terrible. I had a strawberry from the appetizer table that was completely rotten and the back side of it was covered in mold. My husband got the prime rib and I got the stuffed chicken. The vegetables were very dry and the potatoes were fake with some potato skins thrown in for effect.... my chicken was lukewarm. They forgot to bring my husbands meal, we flagged the servers down and eventually got his plate. No one was given steak knives and the prime rib was anything but tender and an ultimate challenge to cut through with a butter knife... I watched as the waitstaff collected all of our plates with most of the food still on it and thought what a waste, our family members spent a lot of money for this wedding and most of it is going in the trash, how unfortunate. The best part of my meal was a roll with butter, pretty sad. I know food is not everything but it is a big portion of the wedding and this food was terrible given that fact I would not recommend the site to anybody. read more

Jones River Trading's exclusive caterer CALLED 4 1/2 HOURS BEFORE MY WEDDING AND CANCELED IT! Now Jones River Trading Company is profiting 2/3 of our money for ruining what should have been the happiest day of my life. JONES RIVER TRADING IS KEEPING 2/3 OF OUR MONEY FOR CANCELING OUR WEDDING THE DAY OF THE WEDDING. They ruined my wedding, they ruined what should have been the happiest day in my life.
