As we sat there sweating during our breakfast, at 9:45 am, staff turned off all the machines and had not refilled any food items for the 15 mins prior. Overall a good stay. I wish they had some fast food options across the street but I noticed on the gps there was a Wawa, Bojangles, Walmart and Dollar General in close driving distance. The free breakfast was on the smaller side but decent: waffle maker, scrambled and hard boiled eggs, sausage, yogurt, muffins, cereal, bread, juice and milk. Tea and coffee available in the lobby 24/7. We would stay here again for the night on a roadtrip. It was quiet and clean and I appreciated the friendly staff.

Reason why I am writing the review is to let Hampton Inn to know NOT to put LED lighting in the remaining new rooms. It was absolutely horrid and it does not have dimming controls on the lights. The lighting is so stark you feel as if you are in a hospital operating room. It is not ok. While they are under construction, you can walk to the hotel next door for breakfast and to use the pool. This location really should heavily discount the rooms while the construction continues.

There was a small fridge in the room and a pot of coffee made for us each morning in the room next door. The breakfast included in the price of the room was absolutely delicious and filling (four cheese omelet one day, cinnamon raisin french toast casserole another, rosemary potatoes, LOTS of fresh fruit). Our hosts were attentive, accommodating, and just the right level of friendly. For example, not only did Tina ask about food allergies and dietary restrictions in terms of breakfast, but she also asked about and provided the kind of milk I take in my coffee. We were also provided with a map of Old Town and recommendations of what we could find in various eating establishments in terms of both food and entertainment. The house was in walking distance of everything in Old Town. I was a little worried that our room might be hot considering we were visiting in the middle of a heat wave and many historic houses don't have CACH, but the window AC unit did a fine job. Petersburg is great for a weekend trip if you like small towns, history, antique shopping, or have a thing for the past. We moved it to the side and didn't use this bed. The window curtains have stains. Once we closed the curtains, we didn't re-open because of the stains.
