The Kasthamandap Grill had been popping up on my FB ads for months, luring me in with their delicious looking food pics. My husband and I finally found the opportunity to stop in and give it a try. We were seated right away and the service was excellent. Everyone we spoke to was kind, enthusiastic, and helpful. And then, we waited for a full hour to get our food without apology or acknowledgement. The restaurant was completely full at dinner time, and no one had food so I'm guessing there was an issue and we were willing to let it go. However, once we finally got the food, we were disappointed. It lacked flavor and didn't seem to have any Indian or Indian adjacent spices at all. I looked at my husband and said I hate to say this, but does this not taste like Campbell's Tomato Soup? He gave me a look and responded it tastes EXACTLY like that and I just didn't want to say anything. And we had both ordered different dishes. So I don't know if corners were cut because they were having some sort of issue in the kitchen, or if this is just normal. But we were pretty disappointed. Especially because it wasn't a cheap night out - over $60 for the two of us. The naan was good, though. We are undecided if we should give it another shot, because unfortunately there are other epic Indian spot in Terre Haute that we know are going to be worth the money. read more

I don't like making reviews like this...mostly because I was extremely excited to try this place, but left unsatisfied. I didn't hate it but I also don't want to go back. The food looked great but lacked flavor and texture, and importantly the temperature was not near hot enough. I did really like the mint chutney. Indian is my favorite and I've eaten a lot, so I'm aware of what to expect. In this case the sauces were too watery and separated once it was on my plate. Naan was as plain as white bread and the pakora was cold and chewy, neither were fresh. Also, the price. I looked online and saw the price at $15, but it was actually $20. The whole experience at this restaurant was amazing. The ambience is soothing, unobtrusive gentle music in the background, videos showing sights of India and Indian decor on the walls. We got the lunch buffet, and wow it is fabulous. Plenty of dishes, options for both meat eaters and vegetarians - PLENTY of dishes! Eat with biryanis or plain rice, or just naan. The host bought us over some fresh potato dosa. There is salad and relishes to add to your plate along with dessert for after with a cup Of chai. All of the food was fresh and delicious and nicely spiced, with different flavors. The people pleaser Chicken Tikka Masala was outstanding, and the vegetarian dishes equally as flavorful. This is my favorite restaurant in Terre Haute. Every time my boyfriend and I go, we try something new and we are never disappointed! The staff is so friendly and the atmosphere is great. I love the features they have to make it feel like more of an experience of Himalayan & Indian culture. So far we have had the lamp biryani, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, lamb dopyaza, Spicy chili momo, yak momo, and we tried the boba Thai tea today. Everything arrives to your table with incredible aromas and amazing flavor. Our staples for every meal are the vegetable samosas and the garlic naan. So yummy! Well... I really wanted to walk away thrilled to rate this place higher. Overall the food was good, and if I were purely rating the food it would be solidly 4/5. But we had some issues that I can't ignore. 1) Gnats!!! All over. We killed 4-5 gnats at our table, constantly had to swat them away, and saw a few elsewhere near the buffet. This Really ruined the experience 2) Tikka masala was sweet. Having eaten it at countless restaurants, this is the only time I have ever had a Tikka masala where the flavor is predominantly sweet. It wasn't bad per say, but it just wasn't right 3) service- they were very rushed to clear plates away, and unfortunately a few people kept coming to ask to remove plates I wasn't done with. They even picked up a plate I asked to keep because of a miscommunication or language issue. This happened more than once I hope they can get the gnats under control, because I would be happy to give them another chance if so. read more

I left a review many months ago and wanted to follow up. We went back to this restaurant to find that they had raised their prices from $12.99 to $15.00. I think they are including a drink now but you have to ask for it. The buffet is the same everyday. I was hoping that they would rotate a few dishes to allow us to try new dishes. I wish they would put a dessert on the buffet as well. Because of the price change we do not go on weekends as we feel $20 is too high and have stopped going very often through the week. This place was open on the north side a few years ago and it started out good just like this one did only to slip in service and offerings. I hope they learned and keep the price down and keep the buffet fresh with good offerings. read more

I went here with a group of 25 people pretty last minute. The food was DELICIOUS. The garlic naan, tikka masala dishes (I got paneer) and currys were incredible. They were very hospitable and accomadating of our group. Great experience and vibe inside the restaurant. If I lived in Terre Haute I would go a lot. read more

Came for dinner. I had been looking forward to coming here since I saw they opened. Took almost and hour for 3 very simple dishes. At 50 min I had my $20 to pay our drinks and app when the food finally came 6min later. We came in at opening first people there 2 other tables with 2 people who got food before ours and 3 door dashers came in and out. Food was plain even when asked for spicy. Chicken was dry like it was leftover from the lunch buffet. Will not be back. read more

Delicious food and wonderful service! I love the decor, and each time we go, I have felt the wait staff are attentive and gracious.

Food is terrific, especially the biryani is quite tasty. Prices are very reasonable, and service is fast.

I would post pictures of the food but I ate it before I could take a picture. It's just that good. The service is very prompt very polite and very neat. On the outside it's rather on impressive however the inside is very beautifully decorated you walk in and there's an immediate bridge over a slight little stream. Kind of surprising. read more
