If you're looking for unique, you've found it. This gem is currently the only one of its kind in South Carolina, selling kava drinks. The location on Hwy 29 is easy to find, in a small strip mall, near the Bob Jones University area. The owner Gabriel was recently awarded Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Greenville! The first thing I noticed is how relaxing the environment is. There's dimmed lighting, tropical polynesian decor, couches, salt lamps, and tables. There's a huge chalkboard calendar with all upcoming events like yoga, coloring night, movie night, parties, and more! You can tell they're all about community. The employees are so helpful and friendly, that made my first visit quickly comfortable. They explained what kava is, how its made, where its from, and then they offer a free sample to every first timer. It reminds me of a bitter coffee root flavor, very earthy. Then you can select flavors and cocktail versions, non-alcoholic of course. I enjoyed the mint tsunami, mojito, and mai tai. All slightly sweet, tart, minty, etc. Lots to choose from! Check them out during Happy Hour to get a few dollars off.

With this being my first time trying kava, I was definitely impressed with the staff being so knowledgeable and patient. They even gave me a sample and told me how to drink it. The vibe was very relaxed and friendly. The drinks all seem tasty and I look forward to going back to try other things on the menu.

Low tide! Kava types are currently on rotation to gain feedback from customers

Upon my discovery of a Kava Konnection business card, I had to seek it out. When I came in a couple days ago, I was informed that it had just opened a few weeks ago. As a newbie, I was handed a "low tide" sample of kava to get a taste of it. And, the owner, Gabriel, will gladly answer any questions you may have. The menu is exciting, and offers plenty of interesting concoctions to try, in addition to *on-tap* local Buchi Kombucha!! This kava "bar" is open 5pm-2am daily, which is great for us night-owls who want to chill out without alcohol. And, soon, they will also be getting Wi-Fi set up, which could mean a great new late-night place to study!

We came here to experience kava for the first time. We were instantly greeted by a lady at the register that explained the history of kava and gave us a free sample. We've been hooked after that! They have several events during the month a few of which we've been able to attend. We love drinking kava and we love The Kava Konnection!

After three visits, I'd like to give them 3.5 stars, but I won't be petty. It's not that this place is all that bad, I just have to be honest. Each visit was different and neither experience was spectacular. Let me explain: First visit was with my husband. I wanted to try something new and taste the kava drink I had read about that could potentially replace alcohol. I was nervous about trying something so different but it was all natural so I went for it. When we walked in the vibe was chill. Everyone seemed really laid back (kinda in the zone) and we went straight to the bar. The decor was consistent and somewhat cluttered. Care-free. The furniture was dated a bit and there were a lot of things out of order. The cashier/server seemed really "relaxed" and her eyes were dark. That let me know this stuff must be potent and I wondered how it would affect my husband and I. We didn't know what to order so the server recommended a kava shot to taste. She warned that it would taste earthy and offered pineapples to eat after we took the shot. It was disgusting. I would have needed ten pineapples to get the taste out of my mouth but I went with it again because my husband didn't seem alarmed. I ordered a larger bowl of the stuff and she gave me one pineapple. I took one sip and wasted my $5 (happy hour price) because I couldn't finish it due to the taste. My husband on the other hand, wanted a buzz so he finished his. The seating is awkwardly laid out so while we sat and talked on a couch in the middle of the place people walked by. There was seating in the back corner too but it was too tucked away and seemed private. After sitting with no music (the sound system completely and casually controlled by the server) we got bored and left. The drink finally hit about 30 minutes later and I was still too nervous about it to enjoy it. Second trip was short and sweet. I went alone. I took a small shot this time and chose a table towards the back to write. I had two shots and asked for extra pineapples. I didn't care for the taste at all, but I wanted to give it another shot when I was less nervous about the effects. This time the drink made me feel more mellow and I was able to write creatively for about an hour. Once people poured in it was hard to focus and I left. That experience was ok. The third visit was truly bland and my two shots were different than before. I don't think they were mixed the same way because they didn't have the same effects or intensity. Plus, I had come on a busy night. As soon as I walked in there was a guy getting a massage in the middle of the floor. So weird. I almost turned around, but no one else seemed bothered by it so I carried on. I needed to write, but my table I had used before was taken so I sat at a crowded bar. There were laptops across the bar owned by people who were mingling or hunting down food elsewhere and I didn't feel comfortable sitting near their things. So after I ordered I took a seat at the couch next to a quiet guy with no shoes on. I could only sit long enough to finish my drinks that time because it was too loud and crowded to think. I was uncomfortable. Overall, it's not a bad place. Staff is friendly, but I wish the drinks were more consistent. (One reason I wanted to give it 3stars) I also wish there was more inviting seating for new-comers. The regulars treat it like its their own living room. The low-lighting and laid back environment is cool. I think I've had enough of the kava though for one lifetime.

I've purchased many rubs, salts, spices, and sugars from them over the years and all of them have been amazing. I especially like their smoked salts. I like to bake giant chocolate chip cookies and sprinkle them with the smoked salt crystals to give them an extra layer of flavoring. You can taste anything you want such as the salts or sugars or rubs, just ask one of the associates to help you. You can smell anything you like yourself by just opening the jars and taking a nice whiff. Many items come in bags and some come in shakers. If you get something coarse you can ask for a grinder top that goes on your shaker for when you want smaller particles. I love the butchers blend general purpose seasoning for many things. My kids love the cinnamon sugar shaker with a grinder top....the put it on everything and we frequently run out. In addition to salts, spices, and sugars they have a huge tea selection. And before you scoff at the prices, just remember it takes just a tiny amount of these high quality loose leaf teas to make a cup of tea. Teas that you buy in the store are not fresh and are harvested too early, commercialized, and it requires a lot more to get the flavor you want. So these tiny bags of tea really do last a long time. I like to look up ancient tea and herbal blends online and then buy all the components here and make my own teas to try and then adjust the recipes to my liking. They often have some free samples of tea and other items to try hot or cold in the store, just ask. For me this is a store I always stop at when visiting Asheville.

It felt like every time we walked by we mistimed it as it was always closed. On the last day in town we finally were able to get in and I am so happy that we did. It has been a long time since I have been in such a nice tea shop. Their selection of loose leaf tea is impressive! And the lady who works here is so nice, friendly, helpful, and informative. She provided a card so we could order tea in the future once we ran out of what we purchased. Their selection is gigantic. This shop has the foundation of most cooking with oil, sugar, salt, and a large variety of herbs and spices. There was so much stuff it is impossible not to feel a dash overwhelmed! I found myself wandering back and forth staring at everything trying to think how much I could fit in my suitcase. This was a fantastic tea shop and one I intend on continued support even at a distance!

I once had a $500 order she said was the largest non corporate order she'd ever filled. Like I said...Love it! My favorite oils are the Garlic and Basil..use them in everythiing from salad dressings to pasta dishes and the add great depth and layers of flavor. I also love the lemon oil...fabulous in dressings and anywhere you want a lemon flavor without the tang of the acidic juice. On the Balsamic VInegars- they are FABULOUS! You Can literally make flavored lemonaids with them- Try adding the peach or raspberry flavors and you'll see. I also love the lime or peach over fresh tomatoes! And the peach vinegar with the lime oil! YUM! You can mix them with sparkling water for a replacement to all the sugary sodas and you won't miss them! Try the chocolate, fig or regular balsamic and you'll see what a great substitute they are for coke! Just make sure you don't make your drinks too strong ( 1 or 2 tbls at most per 8 oz) or the acid can damage your teeth! But the acid also helps you eat less and feel full longer so you lose weight! There are also a nice variety of mustards and jams..great for chacuterie boards. She also has some cute and unique gifts ranging from Clemson spoons etc to holiday and kitchen items. Great to browse and great to fin a special gift for someone who "Has everything" NOTE: She closes at FOUR PM...Don't wait till later in the day to shop or you'll be going back the next morning!
