Vegetable pakoras tasted good, they are thick with batter unlike typical pakoras. 06/2023: ordered Chicken Do-Piaza, which was heavy on ketchup, unlike the commonly used recipe. Would not recommend. Anyone have any insight on what's going on here? Came in at 12 noon when it opened on a Saturday and the buffet was only 25% setup. Told us to come back in 5-7 minutes. They added 1 item, but no rice and no serving spoons. The place was completely empty. My plate was also fractured and about to fully crack into 4 pieces. It's 12:40 now and we are still the only ones here. Most of the items arrived by 12:35 pm. Nan was slightly burnt but crispy. The cook came out of the kitchen to put serving spoons into each dish of food on the buffet. He dropped one on the floor, picked it up, and stuck it into one of the dishes on the buffet without washing it. He also tried to discourage me from ordering the kebab I wanted and tried to hard sell me on the buffet instead, perhaps so that he wouldn't have to cook up a fresh order of kebab. There are three restaurants I will solidly, loyally return to on every trip to Cambridge because time and time again, their food makes me say "damn, this is good." Kebab Factory is one - hopefully I've reviewed the other two but won't steal KF's thunder by revealing them here. There is so much variety here in the menu, you'd be right to be suspicious. But all of it is actually good. So you score twice: you'll never get sick of the place, and you'll discover new food even if you're very familiar with Indian and Pakistani foods (unless you're of that background and maybe you know more from home than I did in my upbringing). The vegetarian vegetable and paneer korma is super! I love going here for the lunch buffet. Even the chai is extra delicious and reliable. The TV during the meal can be annoying but everything else is awesome. Only have love for this place! read more

I'm giving The Kebab Factory 5 stars to bump up the ratings, because it deserves more than 3 1/2 stars. I used to come to this restaurant over 10 years ago with a friend who lived in the area and have fond memories. After meeting a new friend who now lives in Somerville, I decided to return for nostalgic reasons. Back then this restaurant used to be quite popular and it was always packed. I'm happy that they managed to survive during the pandemic. While there are more empty tables and the quality of a minor few things has slid a little (slower service) like everything else during the COVID era, I was appreciative of the warmth and friendliness the staff showed towards their customers even though there were some language barriers. My friend and I enjoyed their buffet, which is still reasonably priced. We loved their naan, chicken tandoori, mango lassi, vegetable pakora, saag paneer, Asian pear, and gulab jamun. I didn't get the chance to try the other dishes as I'm trying to watch my weight (even though it's all-you-can-eat), but there were other dishes to choose from, as well. Once everything is back to normal, I'm sure the tables will fill up again! Tons of side street parking on a Sunday. Will definitely come back soon. I miss Somerville. read more

Had a late night 12:30AM delivery from Kebab Factory and glad I went with them. I checked the hours it seems they have late night hours 11pm-1am perhaps just for delivery and take outs. Anyway for the positives the lamb biryani was my favorite. Very good portion and very tasty, of course I wish there were more meat but honesty for the price it's a great choice seeing how flavorful the rice was. The tikka masala was pretty decent definitely on the creamy side and not watered down like some restaurants that would try to cut back. I thought it was a good choice to go with the classics Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the Saag curry as much as it was overly salty for me and compare with the other two dishes I ordered definitely was a disappointment. However everything else was great, awesome packaging and very hot food when it arrived. I'm very happy to have them nearby as a late night choice. Hope I'm the future I can visit their establishment in person but in the meantime it's a great choice for some delicious authentic Indian food read more

Awful dining experience. The restaurant was totally empty. All the buffet equipment was untidily shoved in a corner. The table and menus were sticky. Our meal came without serving utensils. I have no idea why this isn't incredibly high rated! My partner and I came here a couple weeks ago and were blown away. The pakora was the best we've ever had, the chutneys were fabulous (and abundant!), the paneer saag was perfectly spiced, and the malai kofta was only lacking more vegetable balls. Our only major critique was how quiet the restaurant was; we had to ask to get music turned on. That said, the prices are impressively low, the food quality is excellent, and you won't leave hungry. I was very excited to hear I would be traveling to Boston for work. It's a HUGE upgrade to traveling to Mississippi (http://www.yelp.com/list/stranded-in-forest-ms-forest). Our first choice was Muqueca but unfortunately it's closed on Mondays so we came here instead. The decor was really random, it looked more like a cafe than an Indian restaurant. They had a lunch buffet going on but we opted for the menu. Luckily my friend has been here before and suggested anything from the kebab menu. Gotta go with the namesake right?! Here's what we ordered: Sheermal (Pakistani sweet milk bread with saffron) - This bread was AMAZING! It was buttery and flaky. I was addicted!! I've never even heard of it but it was a little similar to some roti I had when I went to Thailand. I need to find this in LA ASAP!! Chapli Kebab (escalloped chicken) - the spices were something I've never tasted before and it was really good. It was crusted with pomegranate seeds and the chicken came out super juicy. It also came with a little side of tikka masala sauce that was really creamy and a lentil sauce that was very spicy. Tandoori Machali (mahi mahi) - Nice chunks of mahi mahi. I think it was my first time having fish at an Indian restaurant and it was pretty good. The fish I got was slightly overcooked. We were also served a small cup of their soup of the day. Having had a good experience with samples from The Kebab Factory at an event, my DC and I wanted to check out their lunchtime buffet for $10.95 on weekdays. Parking was convenient as they share a small lot with the other businesses in their building. Alternatively, be sure to read the signs for street parking. As I made my way towards their front door, I could not help but notice that their buffet is set up right up to their entrance. Yes, space is rather limited. Buffet offerings were well labeled. I made three trips - the third being for a dessert of rice pudding and melon chunks - and accepted a couple of triangles of warm bread served from a basket when they were offered, and was utterly stuffed. My favorite was the tender chunks of unsauced chicken which nested among onions and peppers and was lit up by a heat lamp. Followed by the sag paneer with its rather large blocks of cheese. My DC was recognized by the staffer who had manned the event and we were gifted with a pleasantly garnished glass of mango lassi. It was just as delicious as the first time we had it. Yum! Their weekday buffet is definitely no secret as evidenced by the stream of diners who passed by with The Kebab Factory as their destination as I waited outside for my DC. 3.5 stars. read more

The "manager" is the actual owner and when a customer is not happy with something the "manager" pretends to call the "owner". He is very rude. He charged me an extra fee for using my credit card. What a great concept. Easy, quick and portable Indian food, either to sit down cafe style or to get on the go. They have a huge menu of standard Indian faire that can be put on rice or a salad or in a bowl, packaged with a couple of sides or enjoyed on its own. The desserts and drinks including premade mango lassi are ready to grab in the cooler. It's vegetarian and Halal friendly too. My trip to the Harvard Square location was great with friendly staff and great location with a lot of foot traffic. Despite that it was super clean and completely stocked. With great prices and quality food to go along with all that, it's a definite try for any Indian fan without so much pressure on the wallet. read more

Horrible service! Mediocre food and it took them 45 mins to get me a can of Coke! We were here for dinner on a Tuesday night. The restaurant was empty but I still had to chase the waiter down to get us water and then to place an order for dinner. Dinner took over one hour to be served and they served us naan after we were done with the main course in spite of asking them 3 times that we didn't get Naan on our table. My relationship with Kebab Factory has been up and down. I initially fell in love with their lunch buffet, which far exceeded others in the area. But I think something has changed in the past few months. The depth of flavors, variety, and quality all feel a little watered down. Still delicious, but given its slightly higher cost in comparison to other Indian lunch buffets, maybe not worth it anymore. HOWEVER. My boyfriend and I had dinner here for the first time a couple weeks ago, and boy did that reignite the Kebab Factory flame. The mushroom soup opener blew us away. Then the veggie korma and chicken tikka masala really reminded us why we used to love this place so much. They were full of the complex flavors that the lunch buffets had lost. The ambiance was also much nicer at night, and the service was friendly as always. From now on, we will likely forego the lunches and stick to ordering dinners. read more

I've ordered from here several times, with great results, but tonight's experience was the nail in the "Never Again" coffin. I ordered a combo kebab platter. It contains two types of lamb, both were so overcooked I couldn't chew through either; my jaw gave up and I had to remove it from my mouth, and I hate wasting food. It contains shrimp kebab, but only one. One, as in a singular shrimp. Two people could eat that singular shrimp, though, because it was so tough, it could be sliced and chewed for an entire episode of Silicon Valley. But I like to eventually swallow my food, and if you do, too, this probably isn't the best choice for you. There are chicken pieces in the mix, one out of the three varieties was lovely but the other two may as well have been the dry lamb. Or the shrimp. Honestly, if I wasn't looking at my food I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference. The cold, congealed sauce that came with it didn't assist in any way. For $23.95, I want something that is a step up from a regular kebab. I called to let them know it was terrible, not what was expected, and wanted at least a 50% refund. They told me there was nothing they could do because "That is just how it's cooked. Next time, you have to call and talk to me." Hey, dude? I order food from the Internet. Everyone orders food from the Internet. I don't want to talk to you, I want to order food from the Internet. Do you have no pride in your product, Kebab Factory? In this industry, the whole point is to be above board with food AND service. When this many FOBs are in the house, you know the joint is legit. And when there are also older New Englanders, you know it's rated well on Zagat. The venue is tight and packed. As soon as one enters, he is greeted not by a host, but by the glorious buffet items. Looking around, one sees that, as previously hinted, the patrons are a mixed bunch of stereotypes. The smells of various spices fills the air, and one's stomach roars with anticipation. Food options range from typical favorites like Chicken Tikka Masala to a fusion style Cajun Shrimp. I did my usual bit of sampling everything, and I was pleasantly rewarded with an explosion of flavor that has been generally lacking in my Boston Indian Buffet Adventures. Each item was unique in all respects: appearance, texture, flavor. Additionally, the quality of the food was outstanding. The chicken, for example, was tender and moist, which allowed for less energy expenditure for chewing and more for swallowing. The Chicken Tikka Masala was among the best I have had. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the cauliflower was, but I was careful not to allow vegetables to steal too much room away from their Kali Mirch Ke Tikki. Service was inconsistent. While staff was friendly, they did not always follow through. Perhaps it was because they were nearing the end of the buffet, but when we asked for more naan and tea, they said "yes", but never delivered. What is strange is that they "checked" for us several times and even provided status updates, which in hindsight were likely fictitious. One thing I did notice, was that while one of the cooks was preparing some kebabs (which looked mighty delicious, mind you), his uncovered head touched one of the hanging skewers. O_O. I didn't eat any more from that particular batch. Basically: excellent, flavorful food for a very good price. Don't be afraid if you scream in foodgasmic pleasure as the tender meat from the Pudina Neza Kebab literally melts in your mouth. Do get the Vindaloo (with whatever meat/veggie you want) if you live for spicy food and experience how they do not friggin' hold back on the spice, providing you with a once-in-a-lifetime party in your mouth. I realized that they have the rudest staffs here. I came here for my lunch buffet today and found that the 'Naan bread' kept in the buffet, was not hot at all. So I asked if they could make 1 'Naan' fresh for me. Did I ask for something unusual? I pay $11.72 for my buffet, each and every day. Don't I have the rights to ask for fresh and hot food?? I am very sure that all Indian restaurants in the world, serve Naan fresh and hot, if we ask for it. The staff refused to serve me hot food and asked me to pay extra, if I wanted something that is not kept in the buffet. OMG! This is not something extra. I have been kind enough to not complain about your Re-heated food and only asked if you can make 1 'Naan' fresh for me. The staff started ABUSING and scolding me in front of others.Though another staff apologized and told me that the person abusing me was short tempered, it does not justify the ordeal I experienced. This place serves the hands-down biggest Indian buffet I'd ever seen. The spread of choices is amazing and all tasted excellent. My husband and I ate to our stomach's content, feasting on the magnificent choices in front of us. The server brought out some fresh-from-the-oven goodies out during the meal and bequeathed us with some deliciously spicy accoutrement upon request. I couldn't have asked for more. Really. We ordered 2 kabab meals and an order of garlic naan. We ordered through Uber Eats, and the delivery was within the allotted time. But, when we opened the order the meals were not there. There was a container of rice, a container of sauce (not sure what that was for) the garlic naan and a container with a few pieces of lettuce, a couple cucumbers and a few pieces of red onion. When I called the restaurant they initially apologized and said our food was there and that they had tried to call the Uber driver, but he didn't answer. They said they would send it right out with their delivery driver and we should get it in 20 minutes. It has now been an hour and 15 minutes since I called the restaurant and we have yet to see our food. I gave the restaurant my phone number so the driver could call me when he got here so I could come out to get the food. I have called the restaurant 5-6 times beginning when it had been 35 minutes and they have yet to answer. It is now 9:34 pm and they close at 10 pm. I have to assume they are not bringing us any food. And at this point, if they did, it would surely be stone cold. Needless to say, I will not eat (or try to eat) at this restaurant again! read more
