Our server definitely didn't seem like he was too happy about that and it showed most the night, but it could be me reading it wrong but that's what i interpreted it as. So i would say service was lacking. - Jahunger noodles thought this was tasty and the meats were cooked well and tender. Finally got the chance to try Jahunger in person! Prior to this, I've only ordered takeout through UberEats. The restaurant is a decent size and I think they'd be able to accommodate larger parties with no issue. Only thing is, they don't do reservations & only walk-ins. We visited before the kitchen closed & ordered the following dishes: - Jahunger noodles - Meefen noodles - Kavap (lamb kebab skewers) - Hand-made Lamb Dumpling (7) - Not Your Average Honey Cake I had to try the Jahunger noodles again! When I ordered this for takeout, I really enjoyed the flavor but was skeptical about it because I couldn't believe how small the portion was... or if I got skimped because it was a delivery order? I feel like I did get a slightly bigger portion dining in vs. takeout but that could just be me! Anyways, I loved the chewiness of the noodles & the spice! The spice is subtle & hits you at the end of each bite. The Meefen noodles were my favorite. We were warned by our server that this was a spicier dish but luckily, we LOVE spicy. Yeah, it's definitely more spicy than anything else we ordered but I didn't find it to be that spicy. LOVED THE FLAVOR for this dish! I liked that it was spicy but didn't have a bitter note like how Szechuan mala dishes can be with the peppercorn. The sauce tasted like it was made with chili bean sauce & sweet bean paste. Enjoyed the noodles a lot too! Super bouncy and very similar to udon noodles. The kavap lamb skewer kebabs were cooked well. Didn't taste gamey at all & felt like they were seasoned well. Very strong in cumin flavor. The hand-made lamb dumplings was a dish I personally could do without. I don't typically like when dumplings are wrapped this way and when we received this dish, the dumplings were cold. I don't enjoy cold food, plus the filling was very bland. Lastly, we had the Not Your Average Honey Cake for dessert. This was so good! I'm honestly not even a cake person usually but after seeing so many great reviews about it, I had to try it. It's not too sweet & was perfectly moist. Overall, the food was more or less solid! I think next time I won't be ordering appetizers... Quite a disappointing experience. We got the gobi lamb and it was overcooked and dry. The chicken stew was ok: only good part were the noodles. The chicken does have a lot of small bones. Potatoes seemed over cooked as they were too mushy. The tea was delicious. Our server was either new or lacked experience. We asked for recommendations, and he gave use recommendations based on spice level. We also never saw him after we placed our orders. We had to flag the other staff members for things and the bill. Went in without a reservation and was told it would be a 45 min wait but it was much longer than that. This place is very busy and limited parking although they do have some spots on the side lot. The inside is larger than expected with simple decor that came all together and dim lighting. We ordered to share for 4 but the dishes we ordered didn't balance out enough but it was the end of the night so we didn't order more. Just note that some portions may be smaller than expected. For apps, we ordered the Kavab which are lamb kebabs and the Handmade Lamb Dumplings. The dumplings were smaller than expected and came with 7 pieces. Nothing crazy with flavor or anything although the Lamb was a little saltier than expected. For the app price of $14 and $13, expected a little more honestly. The Gobi Lamb was a disappointment. For $22 there barely any meat, it mostly just bone and wasn't that easiest to take off the bone either. The favorites were definitely the Meefen and Jahunger Noodle. Delicious restaurant in cambridgeport with the basic decor and plants hanging on the wall. The service was very good and although it's walk-in only, I was able to get a table pretty quickly on a weekday evening around 6:15 pm! Have to try their most popular dishes, the samsa as an appetizer, the Jahunger noodles and lamb on the land dish. Watch out for the Sichuan peppers - they will numb your mouth temporarily - and you can ask for a dish without them. I highly recommend the green beans as well! One of the biggest downsides was the temperature, it was freezing although we were indoors and it was warm outside. I would recommend arriving one hour before you actually want to eat because there will definitely be a wait. My friend and I shared two dishes. I was a little hesitant to get the Lam on dryland because I'm usually not a fan of Lam however they did a really nice job seasoning the meat it was very tender, and didn't have any of that weird aftertaste that I typically don't like. the crispy pieces of naan bread with the lamb was something I've never had before and I thought it was deliciously unique. I've never had Uyghur cuisine before, so I was curious to try this spot, and the Bib Gourmand put it on my radar. Other people must have had the same idea, because the place was absolutely packed on the Saturday night I went. It was a 30 minute wait for a table of 3, and I suspect the wait would have been trimmed if we'd come before 6pm. The menu looked so delicious with many of the meat dishes customizable to be made vegan with tofu for protein. I recognized some of my favorite dishes my family would often make including the green onion pancakes, thinly sliced potatoes, and green beans. I quickly gave up on trying multiple things because the portion sizes were quite generous. We ended up trying the jahunger noodles (very Szechuan pepper heavy which my friends were unfamiliar with and couldn't finish) while I got the ding ding noodles which tasted amazing. The noodles were cut in little bits which was unique, and the flavors were wonderful. Everyone loved the green onion pancakes, and we all tried plum juice too which most people loved, but one of my friends thought the flavor was a bit strange. It's sweet and with an herby and earthy aftertaste that is unique. Overall, jncluding the drinks, appetizer, and tip, the entire meal was just $40 per person. I loved the flavors myself, but some people unfamiliar with the cuisine may find the palette different. It was good to have something hot when it was raining outside, but we had mixed feelings when they put hot water in a plastic tea pot and didn't peel the longans. I love this place! The interior decor is so cute and the whole restaurant has such a cozy, welcoming vibe. It's pretty casual too so need to be super dressed up. It is first-come/first-serve, so definitely be prepared to wait during peak hours. My ears perked up when I saw that an Uyghur restaurant had made the Michelin Bib Gourmand list. Boston is not the most diverse in terms of the dining scene and I'm all for visiting places that offer something outside of the (Italian/seafood/new American) box. Was excited to try Jahunger but expectations fell a little flat. First, their honey cake was one of my favorite desserts in a while. It's definitely on the sweeter side but not overwhelmingly so and pairs beautifully with the tea they offer. I honestly wouldn't mind coming back here just for this dessert. Also, a big shout-out to one of the waiters who managed to seat our party of four within ten minutes on a super busy Sunday evening. Things did empty out at around 7:30/8, so if you don't mind eating a later dinner, you might not have to wait as long. That said, I thought most of the food we ordered veered towards the overly greasy/oily side. The Jahunger noodles, the restaurant's namesake dish, boasted some amazingly chewy, hand-pulled noodles but were drowned in a puddle of sauce that didn't really add much to the flavor. Same with the spicy potatoes, a childhood favorite that features thin crispy blanched slivers, but was a sodden iteration here. My favorites were the lamb skewers (perfectly seasoned and spiced, not too fatty) and the scallion pancakes. Maybe I'll try the more soup-based noodles next time. Parking is tricky in this area. There's a teeny tiny parking lot next to the restaurant but don't count on grabbing a spot. I got Jahunger through Uber eats delivery one evening. Interesting dishes and punchy flavors, Jahunger is a cool add to the Boston food scene. I got the Meefen and the Mutton Noodle soup. The packaging the takeaway food came in was clean and stylish. The Meefen had sturdy noodles so they did not get soggy; however, the noodles in the mutton noodle soup were soggy and had drunk up much of the broth in the dish. A recommendation to separate out the noodles from the soup and allow the person to combine. The Meefen I had ordered extra spicy, and it lived up to the taste- tingly spiced flavor. There was a good balance of chicken, celery, and noodles. They were a little oily, and the flavor was a little one note. The mutton soup was a good flavor, nice and tangy from the jujube in the dish. For dishes I got the jahunger noodles and lamb dumplings to share. The noodles were chewy which im not always a fan of but still great! We wanted to visit this resturant so much we all skipped lunch and went early to score a table without having to wait on the sidewalk. Totally worth it. The service was perfectly attentive without the faux pleasantries. The scallion pancakes were tasty and flakey, not the usual soggy mess served everywhere these days. Lamb Dumplings were delicious, as were the Stir-fried beans and Spicy Tiger. But lets get to the main event- the noodles. The Jahunger noodle is an addictive spicy dish you can't stop eating. The Langhman beef noodle is a fantastic balance of just enough meat with plenty of noodles. But the best dish by far is the Chicken Stew. Which is a terrible name comparison to what this dish really is. Complex but subtle flavors and textures, perfectly cooked and a huge portion. Jahunger had been on my restaurant list for several months now after hearing many great reviews. I was even more hyped after it was recommended by Michelin. Couple it with the scarce hand-pulled noodle scene in Boston and never having had Uyghur cuisine, Jahunger seemed like a must-visit. With that said, mostly everything fell flat and we left very disappointed. Kavap lamb skewers ($14) could've used more flavor and protein was slightly overcooked & could've been more tender. Both dumplings ($13 each) were just OK, tasted like standard dumplings and did not stand out. One of the Samsa ($13) pastries were very overcooked and the other was just right, lamb was juicy and flavorful. Scallion pancakes ($12) had great texture and crunch, but it was also very bland and a challenge to find any scallions inside the dough. Jahunger noodles ($18): Beef was very overcooked and noodles were too al dente and hard, it needed to be boiled for another minute or two. Chicken Stew ($34): the most flavorful dish of the night, but following the theme of the meal, chicken was very overcooked and dry. The wide noodles were slightly too al dente, it could've been boiled for another minute or two. The potatoes were good, though. Gobi Lamb ($22): This lamb shank was an abomination. This huge chunk of meat was deep-fried (why???) and like the rest of the protein dishes, supremely overcooked. It was inedible and what's more, we were given a butter knife to cut through the rock solid protein. Shrug. Cold Beef with Cucumbers ($17): The only protein of the day that was not overcooked, it was actually very tender but flavors were overpowering, contrary to all other dishes. Stir-fried Beans ($14): Yet another dish that was DEEP FRIED. Why??? It's a vegetable dish, stir-fry it like the name suggests! Despite my complaint, this was one of the passable dishes. Flavor was on point at least. Spicy Potatoes ($14): Surprisingly the best dish of the day. It was spicy, potato strips were crunchy. Don't get the Brown Sugar Boba Milk Tea ($7), it's canned and not house made! This is the first Asian restaurant I've been to with canned boba drinks, very misleading and a rip-off. Service was forgettable, they were great with bringing water bottles for refills, but that was about it. Server was very nervous and did not provide much insight into the menu items. Requested for napkins and brought us 2, for a table of 6. Shrug. $250 down the drain with a heavy case of buyers remorse. Checked off the list, one and done. Ordered takeout, it arrived warm (because it came across the city, I mention it to emphasize this next part) but I was still amazed at how chewy the noodles are, they also didn't breakdown or get slimy from sitting in the container. I actually found it way easier to slurp them down. Very spicy, meefen tofu was good sized bites, not the enormous ones you have to awkwardly try to break with your chopsticks or fork. This is an oily sauce, at its core, but the starchiness and chewiness of the noodles complimented it so well and didn't make you feel heavy. It was a snowy night and the food was delivered promptly to my hotel, however, this also means I cannot attest to the ambience or style of the restaurant but I would definitely visit given better weather. read more

Jahunger Cambridge Ordered the Jahunger beef hand pulled noodles And Samsa pastry beef filled appetizer All was strong spices and excellent noodles. I had a strong salt taste or a spice not mixed well bro the fish thoroughly . Last visit was better and I needed more sauce or broth with the noodles. The Samsa sesame seed beef filled pastry wax very good but I needed a dipping sauce or something to dip in . Nice environment interior, serve beer wine and some parking in small lot next to building. We ordered: Jahunger Noodle Samsa Stir-fried Beans Lamb on Dry Land Original Meefen Chicken Stew First time having Uyghur food and it was great! Loved the flavors of all the dishes. I loved that the noodles were made fresh. Meats weren't dry. My favorite dish: the chicken stew was a huge bowl of hearty comfort food like whole bone in chicken, potatoes, peppers, and fresh wide noodles. Samsa filling was tasty but pastry mostly hard than soft/balanced. No issues with service. Decent amount of seating inside. read more

Jahunger, Cambridge MA Second location of the Providence original, offering Uyghur cuisine typically found in the northwestern-most province of China. They call their culture "a unique blend of Central Asian influences." A bit of Middle Eastern too, but the more the merrier. If noodles are your thing, it's a must. Samsa: A pair of savory pastry dough vessels filled with fragrant ground lamb. Think of these as Asian knishes; I think of them as that and delicious. A little crunch to the shell, but also nicely chewy. I haven't had these anywhere else, so I can't compare, but I'd be surprised if these weren't elite. Scallion Pancake: A bit out of place on this menu but more than just a token offering for the timid. It checks all the boxes: thicker than average, crispy but not oily, thick but light, plenty scallions, and thick, dark dipping sauce. Near-elite to elite. Jahunger Noodles: I've had these several times in Providence and Cambridge, and they're the perfect first visit item to get a feel for the place. Hand-pulled, fresh, thick, dense, round noodles, with a protein you can customize. Not exceedingly spicy, but REALLY nice zesty flavor. Nice chewy texture to the noodles, which had a tagliatelle-meets-udon feel. Long strips of chive added some crunch and herbal punch. Laghman Noodles: More of those hand-pulled, fresh, thick, dense, round noodles that are a bit slippery, so maybe rethink that white cashmere sweater if eating these, cuz there gon' be some sauce a splashin'. Complemented with shredded beef in a slightly spicy sauce, a little on the thin side, so not as much cling as with their namesake Jahunger Noodles. Spicy Potatoes: Spiced very thin, served around room temperature, with a jicama-like texture and a sauce spicy as promised. A hint of sour, but less sour than the Sichuan version of potatoes like this. Very good. They've got a tiny parking lot shared with their neighboring businesses. Handy but very tight, so get there early and back your car in. read more

My family and I loved our experience at Jahunger! Unique cuisine, cozy atmosphere, friendly service. We ordered the scallion pancakes to start. Delightfully crispy. For the main course, I ordered the Meefen. It's a noodle-based dish with so much sauce it's almost stew-like. I am not complaining because the sauce was delicious. It's unlike anything I've tasted before so I'm not sure how to describe it. Quite spicy, which I loved. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the chunks of raw celery, but I'm just not a celery girl. I also tried the Jahunger noodles and the Lagan Noodle. Both delicious! Also, per their menu, everything can be made vegan. Our only disappointment was that they don't have their liquor license yet. Tried this out for a delivery order. We got 2 noodle dishes, spicy eggplant in garlic sauce and scallion pancakes. Everything tasted really good. The noodles are nice and thick and chewy. I love that they are full of different veggies and meat and flavor. The jahunger noodles were a little too oniony for me with some raw red onion, but still tasted good. The scallion pancakes were really good. Good amount of scallions, crispy and still chewy too. I love the eggplant. They're spicy and soft with big pieces of peppers in it I thought the prices were relatively reasonable, esp for a delivery app. 4 dishes with delivery fees/tax/tip came out to a little less than $90. We had some spillage of the eggplant sauce in the bag, but that wasn't a big deal. I'd definitely order again! read more
