Kobida salad and kobida with rice.

Great food and owners. I usually go once a month. The place is very chill with tv playing and it is usually quick. Try it

I was excited for the Kebob House to open, finally something new and different in this town! Sadly, my expectations were as good as it will get. I've ordered twice from this place, once they screwed up my order, and their prices are pretty high for a kebob place. The Good: The guy's honesty The "Meh": The kebobs are sometimes dry, and I dislike the sauce they use. The Bad: I can't order food from a place that doesn't have confidence in their food, on two accounts I had the guy tell me to get something else because what I or others planned to order wasn't that good. A great example is his "Beef Kebobs" which is simply ground beef that you get from the store, and his gravy for poutine (at a Persian Restaurant?) he didn't like. The place is pretty expensive and the kebobs are "meh" at best, he seems to justify his $8 -$15 kebobs with rice and a fried tomato. A Cesar Salad (Which I ordered the last time with chicken) ran me $10 bucks, and he forgot to put the chicken/croutons on it! The menu is pretty limited from two types of salads, 3 kebobs, and a burger. The Verdict: With the price being what it is for a stick of meat, I wouldn't bother with the place. I've heard other horrible experiences from people about this place from the food, to the pricing. Maybe down the road I might try it again, but I'm avoiding it for now. A one star review because of the price/portions, a few mess ups, and of course bland food. The "Odds and Ends": While waiting for the place to open it seemed to have taken forever to actually open. On opening day they didn't have any hours posted, and didn't have debit going. They have debit now, and the place actually looks inviting.

I was wary of this place based on the first reviewer but it was either this or an hour drive to the West End to get my grilled meat on sticks fix. So Kebob House it was. I figured if it turned out as horrible as described, I'd have save on gas. This place is a solid 3.5 stars. I was very pleasantly surprised. It's nice inside, very pleasant, clean and modern bistro atmosphere. The Arabic song playing in the background was soothing. I've a soft spot for places that play cuisine-appropriate tunes. I've had one too many evil experiences of Justin Bieber blaring in Pho places. Anyway, expect family owned, non-professional and "welcome-to-my-house-make-yourself-comfortable" kind of service. It's not Cactus Club eh (which sometimes is a wonderful thing). I got a bit of everything. A koobideh platter, an order of a barg and jujeh (non-platter) and a yogurt/cucumber/mint dip with an Arabic name that eludes me at the moment. Compared to Zeitoon and Urban Gate, the grilled meats could be juicier but otherwise, everything was fantastic! Really tasty and great for the price (total came to $24.97). No comparison to the ridiculous portions at Zeitoon but portions were decent (koobideh platter for $6.99 compared to $12 at Urban Gate) for the price. I think the main issue with meat juiciness has more to do with the skill of the chef than the actual marinade/flavour. His heat is on too high and he's drying out the meat a tad, especially the koobideh. My barg and jujeh kebobs were very juicy but all those precious juices drained very quickly into the styrofoam container. So you kinda have to rebaste the juices onto the meat. The yogurt dip is a refreshing accompaniment to the grilled meats. And hello sumac. Now that we've been introduced, I'll be sprinkling you on everything! If you're in the mood for Persian in this area, I say go for it! Prices are really good for the area and you can eat well for not much. Yelp, can we get half stars now please??

We were also thinking of going to the Sushi restaurant next door but when we saw this restaurant was packed on a Sunday night, we knew we had to try. Much to our delight the food was very tasty. We ordered the meat platter to share. Every item was seasoned well and tender. Probably one of the best Persian I've had and I've tried quite a few in Lower Mainland. The service was a bit slow at first but it was a busy night and there was a big group there for a Christmas party. Once it cleared up, service was more attentive. Also to our delight, while we were towards the end of our meal, a table of men suddenly got up and started dancing! The owner/managed was so nice, he even turned up the music and encouraged us and the big group to dance. People were dancing and eating. We definitely didn't expect a fun quiet Sunday dinner turned to be a fun time. We'll have to venture out to Coquitlam again to try more dishes and hopefully perhaps there will be another impromptu dancing. lol.

Yes, even ground beef. So, I said med-rare and that's how it came and it was delicious. Ground Lamb and beef juicy with nicely cooked rice and sweet juicy tomatoes. The Chicken with bone-in. Very tasty. You could tell it was marinated before-hand as it was tender and grilled just right. I asked if the Dolmathes were home-made, but it isn't it's canned. It is imperative, if you're going to call yourself a Middle Easter Restaurant to serve them home-made, as truly the canned ones are disgusting and not at all representative of the Canape dish. Serving canned Dolmathes in either a Persian or Greek Restaurant is like ....a Japanese Restaurant serving you pre-made Grocery Store sushi. This place has a good vibe, friendly staff...from the cashier to the bakery, to the deli counter ending at the restaurant section...we received warm attentive service. Love their fresh meat section and their ground lamb was wonderful. Their grocery deli section is decent but could have more variety. We tried their cream puff and coconut rollette ....it didn't taste fresh. It didn't taste as if it had been freshly baked that day. Perhaps had been previously prepared and refrigerated. The pastry had collected moisture instead of it being flakey and crisp, which indicates pre-refrigeration. I guess my standards for a bakery are quite high. Fresh baked goods daily. The restaurant. Even though the portion size and quality needs improvement....I have to be fair and acknowledge their affordable and reasonable menu pricing. You get what you pay for. Yup. That pretty much sums it up.

As for the pot of Turkish tea (3.99), it came in a nice set with sugar cubes, definitely a bit on the strong bitter side but very pretty and great for sharing.
