Once accepted a CCRC essentially pledges to look after you for life. My wife and I have considered numerous CCRC's to move to and feel Parkshore is one of the best. It's in a great Madison Park village just 4 miles from downtown Seattle...quiet, safe, great area restaurants and a wonderful local (Bert's Red Apple) grocery store, and lots of active young and old people coexisting very nicely together. Parkshore is a 15-story 50-year old high rise built right on, and OUT over, Lake Washington. Million dollar views (OK those views cost MORE these days but the point is they're right there) are outside every resident's window. They're going through a massive multi million dollar upgrade to the property and, when finished, it will be outstanding. We've found the staff, starting with Ann Vey, to be simply exceptional! I don't know what the one YELP reviewer found to the contrary but believe Parkshore will do its best to be just that...the best! We love where we've lived, Friday Harbor, WA, for the past 8+ years and believe we will be equally pleased to call Parkshore...home!

A freind was continually not allowed to discuss care with the manager. I had an unpleasant experience while checking in my mother, they did not want me in the waiting room. So I placed my mother in a different place at less than 1/3 the cost with superior care. I simply don't understand anything about their operation. Now, possibly the people associated with me are trouble, right? But none of us are banned anywhere else! Literally people outside the doors of the place whisper to me, don't bring your mother here!

My husband and I have lived in a Mirabella apartment since July 2019…read more (I just happened on a negative review that shocked me. ) I initiated a search 5 years ago after falling down stairs twice in our wonderful Ballard house. the transition was fairly easy, much to my surprise. We had an easy move-in and live very comfortably here. There are staff dedicated to moves. The move-in fee was big, but we sold our house, so not a problem. If you move or pass away, a large % of the fee is refunded. We get the equivalent of a big meal a day per person (or 2 small ones) included in our monthly fee, as well as fairly thorough housekeeping every 2 weeks. I don't own a vacumn. They gave us new carpet and I chose to have wood floors for part. On move in, you choose things like wall paint colors, etc. The dining rooms include a casual one where you can pick up meals or choose baked goods etc. I love the staff here. I hire someone to help me above and beyond, but could comfortably manage without if needed. I love to be surrounded by books and have built- in shelves. Maybe you will be lucky and move into a place like mine where the previous occupant did so. We have an electric fireplace. You can move in your furniture at your own expense or find helpful relatives. Parking is an extra fee, tiny if you compare it to city charges. We have a big swimming pool, a smaller warjacuzzi and hot tub, a " Restore "  of items donated or left behind, where I like to shop. It was created by and staffed with wonderful resident volunteers. Lots of programs of all kinds, classes like a writing class I'm fond of. Many other services help, like packages delivered to your apt door. During Covid, they delivered our food. I think you get a certain number of such deliveries a year/ free. They are NOT paying me for this review.

I give the staff five stars. The downsides are kind of the same downsides you would find at other facilities. They all have a dark side. One of my parents died where Hearthstone collapsed assisted living, nursing, and memory care all into one floor. . . .so please note that all the reviews here about the skilled nursing and the health center are not relevant anymore. Those days are gone. I'm not sure they should even be able to claim they're still a CCRC. I'm sure it's a systemic problem that all senior homes have now, but we paid a lot of money for not great care when we started to need it. Also tested the emergency call buzzer pendant thing when my parent wet themselves and it didn't work. In the moment, I didn't have it in me to ask for help, so I changed them myself. In retrospect, I wish I had called hospice earlier to care for my parent b/c the hospice people gave better care. As mentioned above, the staff are all lovely people, and it is also true that there are several individuals working in underpaid care positions who might not actually want to be, or who aren't actually cut out for doing this work, but they just don't have other options -- also a systemic problem. Finally, this facility recently started a point system for the food and since then, my widowed parent was not getting enough to eat which is absurd for the amount of money they charge. They have since changed facilities and are eating better. So again, this is a great place if you can stay in independent living and you don't eat very much lol. . . . Otherwise, beware.

Eventually, they gave up and went home with the promise someone would call them to follow up. Nobody ever called. The difference between my parents' experience at this large corporate urban enterprise and the other warm and welcoming places they visited in Seattle has been night and day. Ultimately, customer experience should be the top criteria for a retirement community, and Skyline falls down in a big way here. I'm not surprised they haven't been able to sell out their apartments.

That being said, I was not impressed with their decision to tell my mother to leave once it became clear that she was going to be difficult (and expensive) to care for. HH advertises itself as providing the whole range of life care from supported living to nursing and dementia care. I think for anyone in independent living, it is a wonderful and vibrant community. But once you need more support, you will either need to be wealthy enough to hire outside caregivers, or move to a different facility. An update: After HH decided they wanted to kick my mother out, they reported her to the state's Adult Protective Services for "self-neglect" and me for "neglect." They said that they asked her to move to another facility and we "didn't follow through." Note that: my mother chose to pay a substantial nonrefundable sum to live at HH because she understood that as a continuing care facility they would take care of her until the end of her life; we asked about temporary or permanent supported living arrangements at HH and were rebuffed because they didn't want to deal with the liability and expense of managing her; and as a result we were, in fact, in the process of finding another placement for her outside of HH at our own expense.

Excellent Retirement Apartment Facilities for my Family Members…read more SITREP Both my mother and my uncle John have spent time in these facilities. Mom is still here and I come visit her. My uncle John has since moved on to a nursing home, but when he was more independent-living and ambulatory, these facilities made a great home for him. THE SETUP They are Studio-apartments for single individuals or couples. They have an excellent physical plan that includes many living rooms and multi-purpose rooms for the residents. I am very impressed with the computer room with it's four (4) whirring PCs! In a facility with more than a couple of hundred individuals that doesn't sound like a lot of computers, but this generation I have found isn't naturally intuitive to this technology. However, I have dragged my mom into the 21st Century world of computers and smartphones, and in the end she really has appreciated it. So she is usually one of just a few people that use the computers at any given time. GUEST ROOMS But beyond being residential facilities, they also have guest rooms that I have taken advantage of because they are integrated into this facility campus. The guest room I stay in is extremely inexpensive, and on the same compound as mom's. At a mere $35 a night - you can't beat that in any hotel for what amounts to a really nice studio apartment. I sometimes may begin and end a trip using my Hilton Honors Points at a Homewood Suite, but it's nice to know that for the buck of my stay in Seattle, I can stay at my mom's facility for my home base as I work and visit friends. HOLIDAY DINNERS I love the holidays at Northaven because of the festive celebrations they have around Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas (usually the times I stay in mom's local digs). She likes to show me off to her co-residents as I come visit and hang with her posse. They are a bunch of fun older ladies - and one extremely funny Pakistani gentleman (a former diplomat now living in this country), and we make the most of some of the holiday events. The facility really goes all out on preparing special dinners and they are really quite delicious with all the trimmings. But I have to note that even the normal average dinners are quite elegant and enjoyable here. GARDENS There are some beautiful rose gardens on the grounds that the residents get to enjoy. All the gardening and trimming is quite exceptional and the ground are kept beautiful all year round.. THE LOWDOWN A very sweet and quaint facility to make home in one's sunset years.

What warrants the 5 star review is the staff ... the Director, the social worker, the receptionists, the aides, the wait staff and house cleaners. They are all so warm, caring and attentive. This is not the place you want to go to if you need 24 hour medical attention visa vi dementia ward type care but if you do need a round the clock care taker they offer that as well. If you want to maintain a sense of executive ownership of your own transportation they have private valet included as well as to restaurants for food and transportation that simply tailored to your desires. The staff checks in with you every day and there are constant intercommunity activities as well as be able to schedule your own Uber black style private town car for transportation pretty much anywhere in Bellevue. There is also a weekly transportation trips into Seattle up to Everett and up to Kirkland if you want to make a weekly Costco trip for normal supplies. The staff here is pretty much specifically instructed to dote on you and spoil you and help you out with things and that is so nice to see the facility that really looks to serve its residents individual needs. Full disclosure I am one of the weekend drivers at this facility and I've taken people to dozens of different kinds of locations and we're really there to serve the residence. I'm super happy to work here part time for a company that solves transportation needs for the Belletini residents and staff.

They know what they are doing, and we will follow what they have to say". Covid 19 has changed everyone's life. Our adventure with University House Wallingford began in 2009, when my mother sold her house across…read morethe country and moved to Seattle to be close to family. We selected University House for a number of reasons, and while it wasn't perfect (what retirement community really is?), it was the best option for her. My mother certainly enjoyed most of her experiences there and met some incredibly interesting and accomplished individuals. She enjoyed the proximity to downtown Wallingford and, on the whole, enjoyed the food and staff. However, be aware of one very important concern. University House is managed by ERA Living, and this is probably the weakest point from the perspective of coming away from her time living there with a good feeling. Be aware that when a retirement community tells you that they can handle assisted living, it is by no means a guarantee that when the time comes to move to assisted living they will allow your elderly parent(s) to stay. That was the case with us, as my mother was essentially evicted from her apartment after a period of being ill for a number of months. Though there are residents of University House with debilitating conditions such as ALS who require constant care, it is the predictability of the care needed that will drive University House's decision regarding whether they will allow a resident to stay. So, if somebody's health is essentially up and down and unpredictable, they feel as though they can't handle that. If somebody, such as in the ALS scenario, has a predictable downward trajectory, they are OK with that. So, we were told to find her somewhere else to live. We did so and were very happy with the second housing situation, where she remained for the remainder of her life. But, there was one final surprise from University House. We were told near the end of the month that she could no longer live there, so we rushed to find the new housing alternative, and we had her out before the end of the month. But, University House has a 10 day notification of vacancy policy (it may have been a different amount, but my recollection is 10 days. . . nonetheless, the forthcoming point is still valid). Even though were were out of the apartment before the end of the month, they still opted to charge us for the now-vacant apartment for about five days afterwards. No attempt at good faith was shown on this issue, which really was heartbreaking for my mother. It wasn't the money. It was the loss of trust in an organization that she'd thought had the best interest of the residents at heart. So, yes, ERA Living is a for-profit company. They're allowed to make a buck (or a million). But, they really need to rethink the manner in which their policies come off in practice.

If you're considering a retirement home for your aged parent, you could do far worse. Having had a…read morerelative in both Ballard Landmark and U. House, each has their own charms to recommend. Ballard Landmark skews a little younger and buzzier and has the advantage of the animated Ballard Ave. But U. House is far and away more intellectually stimulating and cultural, with a heavy emphasis on musical offerings. The grounds are lovely and elegant, and the food, while not My ideal, is selected with care. The staff rotates, of course, but are generally well intentioned. Neither facility is recommended for heavy duty assisted living, so if serious infirmity is on the horizon, best to find somewhere with continuing care priorities.
