First things first, we got to pick our own seats. And baby, I love a little freedom. The tables? Shockingly spacious. I know that's a weird flex for a restaurant, but listen, usually I'm playing Tetris with plates and elbows, so having actual room to breathe? I appreciated that. Now I started with the Wisconsin cheddar soup, and let me tell you, it came out HOT. I mean fresh off the stove, don't play with it hot. Flavor was there, but I'm not the biggest bacon fan, so I couldn't quite finish it. And that's okay, because the main event was waiting. The chicken stir fry? Oh, now THAT'S where things got serious. Best thing on the table, hands down. I even added my wife's eggs from her meal, yes, I mixed cuisines, yes I took risks, and baby, I was gone. I scarfed that plate down faster than a horse at the Kentucky Derby. No shame, no regrets. And let's not forget our server, such a sweetie. Always nearby, refilling waters, checking in, chatting just enough to make you feel taken care of without hovering. Exactly how it should be done. All in all? Great food, great space, great service. No matter what, you will definitely find something you enjoy. I've had a lot of dishes from The Kettle and my overall sentiment is that the food gets the job done and leaves me satisfied afterwards. I've had a lot of different dishes, nothing overly disappointing! Their chopped steak is a large and hearty meal that I definitely recommend. Their breakfast pancakes are fluffy and warm. The stir fry adds diversity to the menu, but is a bit on the salty side. Their sandwiches are basic and filling. Most of their meals come with soups and there's always a different soup of the day! Their chicken noodle never disappoints. Once you become established in Gibson City, you'll definitely make The Kettle 217 a frequent stop. Every time I come in, I always see someone that I know. My fiancé, future mother in law and I have eaten here about 4 times now. Each time was just as good as the last. I noticed alot of retirees eat here, which is a very good sign. The food is always served with decent portions and always just as good. Prices are fair. In fact, I was talking to the owner and when I asked it is refreshing to see a place that has fair prices. His response, "If I raise it a dime, the older crowd will be angry and leave." He said with a smile and I laughed. Keep it up older crowd!!! Holy smokes, dont come here if you want take out: they dont got nobody at the entrance looking for you. No hostess, no nothing. I get it, you seat yourself, but what about to go orders?? You gotta go inside looking for a waitress to get yer order cuz they all be inside partying or whatnot. Service was ok, but bathroom's were dirty and cheeseburger was small. I was disappointed in the disrespect from the employees. One waitress who looked angry the entire time we were there walked past us apparently with a vendetta against another coworker saying, "I hate her." Another worker was accused of trying to leave early. And at least 5 of the workers sat in a booth or chair chatting as if there were no customers in the restaurant. We were seated right away and drinks came shortly after. The salad was good, pretty normal, with tomato and 2 slices of cucumber. For tables were seated after us and ordered and recieved their food while we waited for our order. While u understand that chicken parmesan takes longer than many other dishes, it shouldn't take that long! The waitress stopped by once to tell us it was taking a little longer. When it finally came out it appeared to be a piece of thinly sliced grilled chicken with sliced cheese melted on the top. Served on a LOT of spaghetti. We also had the ravioli. The sauce was great, but was a little watery at the bottom. Same with the spaghetti. The portions were large and we ended up taking most of it home. We have been going here for years they always have pretty good food!! I was excited to go back after the pandemic even with all of the new precautions. However going up to the building they had a sign stating everyone must wear a mask but upon entering not one single employee or the owners had a mask on.. their tables were out on their patio not at all 6 feet apart and after customers left they did a very poor job of wiping things down barely wiped off the table that was it. Pretty disappointing do not feel like we will be going back anytime soon! read more

My family and I were in town to visit our Father, who just had new mission last month. This is my first time at this restaurant. It's nice and clean. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The customers were so sweet and it seemed like everyone was friends with each other. My daughter had her hood up and this lady went up to her and offered her, her hoodie if she was cold. I MEAN HOW SWEET IS THAT. We ordered our food. I got a the Country Omelet with hash-browns. It was quite a large serving but it was delicious. My family got their food and had to pack up a few things because the servings were large. I had a very great time here. I enjoyed the family-like atmosphere and the food was incredible. I would definitely come back. Side note. The town that this restaurant is in, has NO service unless you have AT&T. We used our car navigation to get here, and it stopped working when we entered the town. We managed to find our way to the restaurant by asking locals. read more

For our little town of 3 to 4 thousand people to have a Resturant like this is to die for. We are so fortunate. Not only do they have wonderful selection of food, they will also serve it out side on their patio. I am used to eating outside all the time in Arizona, but eating outside in Illinois is a treat. This place is a great "hole in the wall" place to eat. I lived in GC most of my life and always loved Sunday morning breakfast here. We also went every Wednesday night for fried chicken night. The food is good (nice and greasy, just the way I expect) and the staff is usually friendly and helpful. I always eat here on every trip home. I have eaten at Country Kettle a few times before and food has always been fine. Today I went with my family and in-laws and was very disappointed. My husband had soup and Italian Beef and said the soup had no meat in it and the sandwich had no flavor. I had Wisconsin cheese soup and a mushroom swiss burger. The soup was a flavorless cup of gelatinous cheese with macaroni and bacon. The burger was made from a cheap frozen hamburger patty. My father in law had had hot beef and potatoes and said the beef was cold and tough. My daughter (chicken strips)and mother-in-law (chopped steak platter) said their meals were fine. After eating there both my father in law and I felt quesy. The service was good, but the food needs fixed. read more

My family of 7 ate lunch after a xc meet in the area. The wait staff was attentive and accommodating, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was "small town". We have Sunday Brunch here once or twice a month and are never disappointed. I usually have breakfast---waffles or french toast, scrambled eggs and hashbrowns---and my husband usually gets something from the lunch menu, along with either a piece of pie or chocolate cake. It's important on Sunday to either get there before 11:30 OR come after the church crowd is done. Last time we came around 2 and it was moderately busy---JUST enough.
