We were seated by the girl at the register who never told a waitress we were there so we sat ten minutes before getting recognized and brought menus. The waitress was very nice and sweet to us, joking and laughing, food came 20 min later. My wife thought her meatloaf had too much gravy which was fine, she just moved it to the side. My chopped steak with onions was quite delicious, one of the better chopped steaks I have had and had enough onions for every bite. We were surprised in the end as desert is included with each dish so we got two pieces of pie, strawberry rhubarb and peach. Over all a great visit except for the wait. 4.2 stars. read more

Stopped in while a tour bus was there so service was somewhat slow but once we made ourselves known, our server was attentive. The shop keeper had told us to find a table but didn't let the server know. I had the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. It was served with LOTS of gravy. (See picture). Flavor was excellent, pleased with large portions. We were pleasantly surprised that dessert was included so we shared some pie. Great looking facility and friendly people. The food was really disappointing. We ordered the fried walleye dinner. The side salad was dripping wet with water. The fish was unseasoned and very wet and greasy. Both the fried fish and the French fries were bitter as if the oil had turned a bit. Service earned all three stars. This place was fun, but the food was mediocre at best. I had the daily special potato soup and the open-faced meatloaf plate. My husband had the mushroom burger - usually one of his favorites. He said it was pedestrian at best and both the soup and the meatloaf were covered with a ton of flour... EXPLANATION: both had so much flour in the soup and/or gravy that you couldn't taste anything but flour. My mashed potatoes underneath the thick gravy were cold. They do give you a ton of food, but I just didn't eat very much of it because it wasn't that good. Food was up to par with other diners I've been to. Ambiance- love the decor!!! The hanging full size motorcycle on the ceiling was amazing but I have to admit, I was scared to stand underneath it Service- I would given it a higher rating but unfortunately, our service was very slow. We sat for a while and waited, she never showed up until I asked another server if we can place our order. She never came back to ask if everything was ok after we got our food and definitely didn't come back to ask if we need any refills. People at the restaurant were amazing tho! Upon driving up, we see the area is clean from garbage and any hazards as unlevel walking area. The outside is decorated beautifully for fall with pumpkins and decor. In the entrance, there is a nice display with a motorcycle hanging above. There is more fall decor for a nice touch. The daily specials are posted for viewing as well. Upon entering the restaurant, there are gas pumps on both sides, and the location is open fully. It's clean and designed well, again with fall decor, making it a very welcoming atmosphere. The tables were clean, as was the floor, not sticky or dirty. The menu has decent size print and is clear for reading. The specials were also displayed inside the door to the left. The food presentation is nice. The portion size is a lot, maybe too much. With the sandwiches you choose two sides. I'll add that the fries tasted different. I'm not sure how to explain. Wasn't very fond. Condiments were displayed nicely and were clean to the touch. Our server Lexi was kind and attentive. She checked on us multiple times and cleared the table of finished plates. Review Visit: June 11th, 2016 Old Roads, New Traditions. After running a 5k obstacle course, you tend to develop an appetite. So, what do you do after a muddy run? You fuel up and recharge. That is what my dad and I did at the Old Route 66 Restaurant after each and every Warrior Dash. With a 2.5 hour drive looming ahead of us and our bodies energy levels needing replenished, I kept my eyes peeled for restaurants just outside of Channahon, IL. Old Route piqued both of our interests and we set course for there. Upon pulling up and seeing the whole side of the building painted, I knew we needed to get a picture in front of it. After snapping a quick photo, we headed in for grub. We strolled in with mud caked on random parts of our body. There was an attempt to wash it all off but that is just impossible. The few other customers in the restaurant threw some goofy looks our way but we knew we looked a bit silly. Anyways, the waitress seated us promptly and brought us much needed water. As we sucked down the water, we looked over the menu. With any new place, you have to take a few minutes to adjust to the menu and the tastes of the area. Luckily, the menu had all familiar foods and tons of things that sounded good. My dad ended up settling for a tenderloin with coleslaw. I spied a turkey & bacon club on the menu and instantly knew that is what I needed. With the orders placed, we sat and talked about the mud and obstacle course that is the Warrior Dash. It wasn't long before our food was brought out to us and we dug in. Each bite was a delicacy. I would say that the food here is normally top notch, but after sun/run/mud we just experienced, it made everything taste a level above fantastic. Both my dad and I loved every bite and were sad when our plates were empty. As we finished up and left, we headed over to Ambler's Texaco Gas Station to check out an antique gas station before hitting the road. We don't live anywhere near this restaurant, so we can't really pop in and try it after a normal day. That is okay though, as we have started a tradition of coming here after each Warrior Dash we partake in. We have meant Friends here 3 times now. The Food and Service have always been GREAT. We have tried Walleye, a large portion and very fresh. Also the Hot Beef was good. Chicken Breast Sandwich on a Roll, sorry I forgot the name of it, was good. Bacon Cheeseburger and Fries Very Good. I asked for Crisp Bacon and that's exactly what I received. Outstanding! Well-appointed restaurant close to the highway exit. Ample parking. We were seated quickly, and our server, Tay, was very attentive. Expansive, varied menu with appetizers, pastas, entrees and sandwiches. And they have Walleye! Clean and with a "Mother Road" them that is well done, informative and fairly extensive. This was a last minute decision to get dinner before getting into the Chicago area before it got too late. Will visit again (and again). I travel from Missouri to the Chicago area at least monthly, usually getting a quick stop in at the Buc-ee's knock off just down the interstate. I found a new favorite stop. read more

First time diners and the food was very good and gave you so much food for a reasonable price. So much to choose from too! From comfort food to pasta, steaks or even wraps. Delicious and quality food. We had a waitress named Grace who was nice, pleasantly happy and well informed of all meals on menu. She was quick, polite and accurate bringing our meals and those to the tables around us! Loved the Route 66 theme and especially the blues brothers and hanging motorcycle in the entrance! So the inside has been remodeled since I was last here several years ago and it has a really interesting new Route 66 decor. I started off with the cream of cauliflower soup which was so thick I could stand my spoon up straight in the middle LOL Very tasty! For lunch I had the grilled chicken livers which were good but did have a slightly burnt taste to them and I did see burnt spots on the bottoms. ( the last time I was here I had the same grilled chicken livers and they were cooked perfect ) My companion had the breaded and fried catfish filet which he said was very good. read more

After a long drive to the airport in Texas and a flight to midway, we were getting really hungry and needed a break and a good meal. As we were driving on I55, we saw the diner listed on one of the roadside signs, so my wife looked it up... We couldn't have been happier with how it turned out! Easy access, plenty of seating, excellent food with hearty portions and great staff with serious attention to detail. My wife had the taco salad and I had the walleye dinner. Seriously yummy! On the way out we met the owner and spoke with her for a few minutes. She cares about her customers and making sure that they are satisfied! I grew up in Northern Illinois and have worked/traveled the U.S., so I am very familiar with Route 66. I ended my law enforcement career in Santa Monica, California so my wife was very surprised to see the image of the Santa Monica Piet over my shoulder as we sat down. Very cool! Heading back home after traveling Route 66 to Chicago. I was looking for a place to feed the family, and both needs were met, Route 66 restaurant with a Route 66 site outside of the restaurant. The restaurant is located off the major highway, so you can miss it. There is enough parking, and the parking lines won't affect large SUVs. The moment you enter, you step into a time machine that screams Americana. It is wall to wall artifacts that take you back decade. Our server brought the menus and drinks in a timely manner. We all ordered traditional breakfast or burgers for the boys. We used the bathrooms, which were found as you enter to the left, and they were very clean. Our server did an effective job and would have liked her to check in on us more, especially for water refills after all those miles on the road. The food was average no true home cooking taste, but what the flavor lacked in, the mesmerizing environment made up for it. The decor is exceptional and lots of memorabilia to look at and trinkets to purchase. The meals are good and servings plentiful. Our waitress wasn't very attentive and only offered coffee and water when the bill was delivered to the table after we had long finished the meal. Perhaps she was having a rough morning as this is not typical of the wait staff. We will be back another day to enjoy the ambiance and another meal. It definitely is worth a stop just to see the decor, and visit the downtown too. 4 stars for food, 5 stars for ambiance, 2.5 stars for service but only for that visit. read more

We met friends for dinner. We started with the boneless wings because the bone in wings were going to take 25min. The "wings" ( more like chicken tenders) were ok, if you like a thick bread coating. They gave us as many dipping sauces as we wanted though. Our friend had the cream of broccoli soup. In my opinion, it was way too thick, but she said it was delicious. The entrees came with 2 sides of you got the deluxe. The cole slaw was very creamy. Two of us had gyro. The gyro was very good. My husband had a burger. He said the burger lacked flavor. Grace was our server; she was very nice and accommodating. The restaurant was remodeled in the past 5yrs, I think, but it's very nicely decorated and unique.
