I just want everyone to know about the outstanding service/help I received from everyone at "The Key Depot" especially Jason and Eddy. I have a 2004 Isuzu Rodeo that apparently has an imobilizer and after contacting several online locksmith's from the surrounding area and San Antonio, that didn't even want to help me because of the difficulties involved. I went to The Key Depot and Jason offered to help me. He was able research and find some aftermarket non OEM keys and they also helped me get the manufacturers key code and immobilizer security code. Eddy one of their car key experts diligently tried several software modules until he was successful and programmed/cut two keys for me. I really appreciate how far they went out of their way to help me out. Especially since I'm disabled and the only key I had was already falling apart. Asked for a rekey I was told 1 hour. Came back an hour later and was told I waited for no reason they can't do it "because it's hard". So I took my locks only for them to call me after driving 45 minutes away that they forgot to give me everything back. So I then asked for a key origination instead with the lock they forgot to give me. I was told it's ready two days later. Drove 45 mins to get there and was told they're not ready. They told me to wait while they start the job they accepted 2 days prior. Edit: Waited 2 hours in they store and then was forced out without help because they read this very review. Never experienced someone so rude! By the owner!! Went into their shop and noticed all the huge gun cases. Jokingly said to the young man helping me that they'd make a nice room for my ex-wife. He laughed, I laughed, and we went on discussing fixing my lock that afternoon. So later that day, I returned 30 minutes earlier than when I was told to, but since the gentleman I was working with was on a service call, I was refused help. I explained to the I only followed what I was told, and the owner came running out shouting and yelling for me to get out of the store because she had overheard my conversation earlier in the day regarding my ex-wife. I was shocked! Why would she be eavesdropping on my conversation to begin with??? You'd think she'd have something more important to do. I apologized for offending her, but to no avail. Even called her back and explained I had no mal intent, and apologized again, and again to no avail. It's hard to believe they are still in business for 20 years when she abuses her customers so frequently as the reviews indicate. Maybe she was just having a bad day. It's a shame when business owners act as though their customers should feel privileged to do business with them. I've never been treated so rudely and unprofessionally. I mean what business is it of hers what I do with the gun safe??? In fact, if the woman actually knew my ex, she'd probably agree! Regardless, if the owner has been doing the same job for 20 years, she has no business in a position where she has to interact with people. Perhaps a data programming position would better suit her skill sets. Unless you enjoy being mistreated, and spoken to disrespectfully, I would highly recommend going anywhere else but Key Depot. I recommend that everyone avoid doing business with the Key Depot at 386 Landa Street. Three days ago I purchased a digital door lock from them. I have 3 digital locks on my house doors. I had to replace 2 of them last year and thought I had to replace the third now. I purchased those first 2 from this company. When I opened the 3rd lock this morning I found that the problem was not the lock, but just a bad battery. When I tried to return the lock, I was told that their No Refunds policy applies to everything. This was not a "special order" item. It was a different color than the lock they had in stock. The package is unopened. To make things even worse, after I returned home, I decided to google this lock. I paid the Key Depot $243 for the lock - Home Depot sells it for $98.97!! I began using this company 10 years ago when I returned stateside and moved into my house in New Braunfels. I've had all locks changed, then the digital locks installed and more. It is obvious that there has been a change of ownership at this local store since then. It is no longer the customer friendly operation it was 10 years ago. Three of the keys worked while the fourth wasn't cut correctly. So I made another 18 mile round trip to The Key Depot. The owner of this company is a sourpuss. I had previously avoided key depot for the past 14 years I lived in New Braunfels because of the reputation they have for being expensive and not customer friendly. Recently I was in a jam and had to use them. It took 4 days before anyone got back to me despite me walking into the shop and asking for help. ( they told me a technician would call me back when they returned from the field). Long story short they pulled a bait and switch, scamming me out of a 50$ service call fee and asking for a second fee if they came back out to do the work properly and what I actually asked for and needed. It pains me to write this. They're very nice people. However, they have made a business decision that lacks a customer centric approach. Although they don't have the key blank in stock, they insist they order one even though I already have one. This is completely so they can make more money. They have a chance to make $40-75 to cut and program my blank. Instead, they say they don't want the risk of my blank not working (I'm willing to take that risk). I'm all for making money, but insisting I pay $250 to have them order a blank I already own is unacceptable. I write this for those customers that need a similar service. This is a cool lil'.. I guess you could call it a mom n pop type key shop (but they also do safes and I think he said security camera systems too). Professional yet one on one. Robert is a very nice and helpful man, that was able to explain things to me in an effortless manner. They should hold onto him. He is a true asset to this company. It's sooo interesting how a different personality can make such a difference in one's experience. Because we have had these keys made before and also had other dealings with different Key people, but none as gently nice as Robert. I hope they know he's a "KEY" to their continued success. We lost our keys tubing the river and I struck gold with this company. The serviceman was polite on the phone. He said he would come in 30 or 45 minutes but instead came in 20 minutes, to our relief. He was professional and quickly made us a new key and unlocked our car for only 175, much cheaper than other places. The Honda dealership was going to charge us 130 just for the key! I would avoid this company at all cost. I scheduled to have them come to my home to cut and program a key for my 2014 Focus. I was quoted $180-$210 when the guy came to my house an hour late he then jumped the price to $250. The customer service was pretty much non existent and he could care less if we used their service or not. Cake from Amarillo and Lost my key in the lake called these guys out. Charged me 330$ for a key that doesn't lock or unlock the door and has to be put into a a lot in the console just to start the car. Called them back to fix the issue or give a partial refund. guy came out the next day and told me he couldn't get it to work. Talked to manager and the "only thing they can do" is give me a $30 refund. Completely unacceptable business. Jim was so professional and not only got me back in but rekeyed my door knob lock to match the dead bolt so I don't have to keep two keys on me. I would definitely recommend this business. Eddy came to get my car unlocked after I accidentally left my keys in it yesterday at Schlitterbahn. We had just gotten there and parked and wanted to just get the keys now instead of waiting till after we were done in the park. He came and struggled with getting it open for a littler bit, but ended up getting to the door handle and opening it that way. The tool he used was a long metal rod with white plastic or rubber coating on it except for the last 6 inches of it, that part was exposed metal with a threaded and point. My husband even commented after he left how the rod was kind of weird and how the end was just exposed threading. He also used the inflatable bag to open the top corner of the door a little bit. We're young and have had a locksmith open our door before and no damage was done, so we didn't even think to check the door right then. Thinking about it now, it would have been good service for him to even suggest we check it out before we signed the receipt, we were in a rush to get into the park and just didn't even think to check for damages, a mistake on our part. The damages and awful customer service is On them though. Later that evening we noticed about 4 different damages. See attached pictures. The corner of my door was permanently bent outward due to the inflatable bag, the edging of the door frame is roughly scratched and the black coating is peeled off, there are deep scratches above the door handle, deep scratches near the lock button, the rubber coating around the door has a rip in it and the plastic frame the coating is attached to has deep scratches right next to the torn rubber spot. we noticed these after their business had closed so I decided to call the next morning. The woman I talked to wasn't rude at first but basically said we signed a "government" document and am calling the next day telling them about this and that they use metal tools to open the door so damages are possible but I signed the govt doc absolving them of anything. Which frustrated me because she just implied that they can damage your car but clearly won't help if you didn't notice so you went ahead and signed their receipt. So I told her it shouldn't have damaged my car in all those places and that water can actually get in my car now because of the damages they created, and she literally said, a bag won't rip rubber weather strip the metal tool he uses has a rubber tip on the end (which it didn't) and we signed the paper and were fine with it yesterday and are just now calling them about it(implying we made it up or are complaining about previously created damages). So I told her that she just said their tools are metal implying that damages are possible and now she's implying that we're lying. It was $60, I'm not chuffed about paying that and I wouldn't waste my or her time trying to lie to get refunded but since there are so many damages it's frustrating that I have to pay for shotty work and service. She just kept repeating that I signed a govt document and there's nothing she can do. It's kind of ridiculous that they wouldn't want to uphold good customer service and apologize for what happened and offer even a partial refund. She never apologized that they screwed my door up, she implied I was lying and refused to help or apologize because I signed the receipt. If she had been nice and just apologized I would have felt better about still having to pay for this. So, if you use them, check everything thoroughly before signing anything because that's their ticket to worming out of any damage or responsibility they caused. read more

Sad to say after doing business with The Key Depot for quite a while, the company I work for will not use them again. After making more keys than what was told for one of the jobs they did for us, (documented in a text to them) when called on it, the technician said they would owe us. Next job, price increase, and no adjustments made. To put it bluntly, they did not keep their word. We were told no one from management knew about this, which is very odd.
