My daughter has been a patient of Dr. Carol's since before she was born (more or less) with our first visit taking place when Joanne was 10 hours old. Six and a half years later, we really value our relationship and the care we've gotten from Dr. Doroshow. She's great with kids, calming, affectionate, realistic. She doesn't believe in lying to them -- no "this won't hurt a bit" unless it really won't! If something will hurt, she takes the time to explain why and for how long and to get their buy-in. Her office staff is good and making an appointment's usually not a problem. The after-hours nurse line has been really helpful when we have unfortunately needed it. And Carol visited my daughter every day, sometimes more than once, the sole time she had to be admitted to Children's. We drive almost an hour to get to Dr. Carol and it really is worth it. She listens to you and wants you to be involved. It's not her way or the highway; she's OK with altered vaccination schedules or skipping some or all shots. And she's really helpful with breastfeeding issues. Most importantly, my daughter loves her. That communication will serve her well as she grows and changes, and I know she will be sorry to leave Dr. Carol's practice when she's finally too old for the pediatrician. :-) Note: This is the absolute most horrible picture of Dr. Carol I have ever seen! read more

This is an absolutely fantastic clinic for parents that: 1. Desire to have an open-minded pediatrician who will spend that full appointment time addressing your child's medical needs. 2. Desire a clinic that has their act together (Refer to my review of Renton Pediatric Associates). 3. Demand a pediatrician who is well educated and presents to you statistical data and explanations to help guide health decisions for your child. 4. You prefer to know what the billing is upfront. 5. Access to medical records. There is a fee involved but also, note that you can check in yourself at the office too! 6. The clinic has a very nice child-friendly atmosphere. Doesn't have that cold, disconnected, overly sterile feel that many medical office waiting rooms do but also not the dirty, kids disaster zone feel either. Well kept office. 7. A clinician that actually reads the medical chart in thorough. Dr. Doroshow took the time to look up the imported European formula my child is using prior to meeting with my wife, child and I at the scheduled appointment time. I also appreciate Dr. Doroshow and her student nurse practitioner asked 'intelligent' questions (believe me, some providers ask questions that make you wonder). 8. The providers do carry laptops around but they don't take into their computer to you, it's a nice direct conversation that you can have which is good. Though this is very much an independent practice, parents can definitely be assured that the networking with Seattle Children's Hospital assures you that any urgent care is seamless. In addition, this office does have student nurse practitioners which may be a bad thing to some but please do recognize in order to have great providers, they must learn from great providers too. The experience: My wife being a professionally licensed acupuncturist and us being a strong subscriber to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have practices that clearly do not always agree with Western medicine. With that said, in our discussion with Dr. Doroshow and the student NP, it was nice to receive suggestions and feedback without the feeling that we are crazy parents. For example, my wife and I needed some guidance on vaccinating our child to which Dr. Doroshow provided critical vaccination statistics and what she'd strongly suggest and others that are not urgently necessary. It was a breath of fresh air to feel that we weren't 'threatened' into our decisions but very educationally guided. Medical assistant and front desk staff: I don't know anybody on the face of the planet who could effectively deliver three different vaccinations with three different syringes in under what felt like ten seconds. Yes, our child did not like that part of the visit but needless to say, it appeared to be done very skillfully. The front desk staffer based on phone conversations and the visit was patient and did not feel rushed or unsure in her responses. I also appreciate that for the first time ever, the paperwork I needed to fill out was complete and not the "I forgot to tell you about this form...." non sense. Special note: There is a German Shepherd dog that hangs out in the clinic but serves the purpose of aiding children of a certain type of medical condition. Overall, this pediatric office should be an option for those that do desire to have a pediatrician that in invested in your child's care and not pressured to see dozens of patients at ten minutes per one hour appointment. read more

We've been coming to Dr. Doroshow since our daughter was 3 months. While we do not have much experience with pediatricians, this is been the best experience with a medical professional. Dr. Doroshow, her PA Jean and staff are all wonderful and friendly. The front desk always answers calls promptly and are always warm and friendly at check. I've had very little issues scheduling visits, I've been able to get in many times on the same day to have our daughter seen. They answer questions clearly and explain thoroughly any medical recommendations that are suggested during our visits. read more

With a first born everything is of course very overwhelming and you don't really know if this is what you are supposed to do or if that's normal.... The point being here is our experiences with doctors at the hospital and with our new pediatrician at Edmonds Swedish Family Care have been great and we feel we leave there on the same page and understanding the why's. Here we would leave feeling left in the dark a bit and that we weren't sure of all our options. It continued to feel like we were on a ride and never really had any explanation as to why things may be normal with the baby or why we needed $100 worth of supplements along with other things. Yes now thinking back I should have asked why in the moment but in the moment we were both glazey-eyed hoping to hear some direction that made sense. Every other doctor we've seen since have done this so well, but unfortunately not here. Plus the staff is minimal and seems a little ill-managed. I have left voicemails regarding billing over a 2-week period and no one reaches back out. They have a $58 portal fee on top of everything else. There are patient portals that are free, I know and use them. Again, everything felt like a ride with no direct answers. I can't say that everyone's experience is going to be the same here. But for us and reading one of the below reviews, it seems we're not completely alone. Sorry guys, cute clinic but run poorly. read more

I can't express how wonderful this team is. My daughter has a bilateral cleft lip so having a good medical team is critical to her ongoing treatment since she was born. Dr. Carol and April have been so amazing. They listen to us when we have concerns and go above and beyond the call to make sure she is in good health. Everything from regular wellness exams and shots to coaching me through fevers over the phone. Their generosity is only surpassed by the professionalism and true commitment to the care of children. What Julia Z. said is spot on. This also goes for another practitioner at the Kid's Clinic, April: they do not believe in lying to kids, they get their buy-in, they listen, they are upfront, they share their experience and are open if you have a different view or experience. Dr. Doroshow has even investigated something I brought up and gotten back to me. They both makes me and my children feel like we are truly part of the children's healthcare. We also love Nurse Kelly. My son has been a patient since he was a baby (now 10) and my daughter since birth (now 4). My kid's do not mind (no one LOVES seeing the doctor) going to see Dr. Doroshow, April or Nurse Kelly. I definitely recommend any of these practitioners. Their billing department is another story, which is why I've only given a 4 star rating. My insurance told me not to pay a charge and put it under investigation. According to my insurance, who calls me every time they've left a message for Francesca, who does the Kid's Clinic billing, she has never answered the phone when they call and she does not return their calls. I have spoken to Francesca who cannot tell me why I should pay and admits that she has not spoken to my insurance representative. She just keeps sending me a bill and highlights the amount owed. A month ago I spoke to the head nurse at the clinic and told her what was going on. She said the amount seemed odd and not to pay it until she investigates. She said she'd get back to me. Today, I received a collection notice. So frustrating! read more

Have taken my kids there for years and have noticed over the years that they are becoming more and more unprofessional. Dr. Doroshow is nice if you do what she wants but if you question her, she becomes hostile and defensive. My son has had a bad cough for several weeks and I called in to ask if he should be seen. They told me that a bad cough was going around and that he should get more fluids. I called back again after another 2 weeks and got more of the same. I finally scheduled a "well visit" for his yearly exam and asked them to check him out then. Though I thought I was seeing Dr. Doroshow, when we got there, we waited about an hour before we saw the newest provider they had there. We had no idea of who he was or that we were going to see him. He did a thourough exam and asked questions and suggested that it might be asthma or allergies. He did not think that it would be Pertussis and also said that if it was, at this late stage, he was no longer contagious and antibiotics would do little for him. Later that night, they called back and wanted him back in the next day for a test. They completely changed their tune. Finally when I was able to talk to them after the weekend, they said that he needed to come in right away to be tested. That he was now considered to have Pertussis even though he had not been tested. During all of this time, Dr. Doroshow never spoke with us. When we arrived at the office, they shouted to us from across the room NOT TO COME IN. They came running at us with masks that they wanted everyone to wear. My children, as well as everyone in the office, I am sure, were upset by this. They had not mentioned this on the phone to me or tried to call me to tell me this so that I could prepare my kids. I wanted to leave right then and only stayed because I wanted to hear from Dr. Doroshow herself about the way things were being handled. We were then ushered into a back room where people came in sometimes wearing masks and sometimes not. I finally said that I wanted to speak to Dr. Doroshow before the proceedure. They looked and acted appalled that I would want to speak to her. She finally came in, very hostile and defensive. She insisted that my children had pertussis and would be treating them for it immediately. My daughter coughed once while we were there. She never bothered to examine the children in any way. She bullied us into thinking that my children were going to infect the whole community unless we vaccinated them. We took the prescription and left (masks on, of course). Today they called to report that the test was NEGATIVE. Dr. Doroshow had someone else call to deliver the news, of course. I am most upset that they mishandled our case on so many levels and have made little attempt to rectify it. THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU BRING YOUR KIDS HERE!!! I have been going here for over 3 years, for 2 kids. I see April Rodriguez. This clinic has given me the most positive experiences I have ever had with any medical practitioners anywhere. They are not judgmental over individual parenting decisions; they are very clear they believe the parent knows best and can make their own decisions. They do not coerce you into any decision. April has always given me very thorough, relevant information pertaining to my concerns. I love that they look for natural treatment methods before resorting to antibiotics or prescription drugs. I love that they are open to alternative vaccine schedules, and they are very informed of vaccines' functions. April has always provided excellent information and advice around which vaccines are appropriate and which are optional; furthermore she has always left the decision up to me after I've been fully informed. This is a practice that makes you feel at home with them. They are real people serving real people, and don't mind if my daughter pees on them during the exam. April does a fantastic job of naturally helping the child be involved in the exam, and the exam is not something that is "done to them", rather it is an experience everyone benefits from, and the child is an active part of. My daughter loves going to the doctor. April is so approachable and friendly. The only thing that could make this clinic better is if they served adults too! I would love a doctor for myself that takes this much care and intention towards my whole health! read more

Gabriella, the nurse practitioner is excellent. Their waiting room is excellent. All my other interaction with the clinic has been very disappointing. I am still waiting for a reimbursement check ....9 months and counting - they say it is in the mail. They provide appointment reminders 50% of the time, so I do not recommend making appointments too far in advance - $60 lesson. My only contact with Carol was about 5 minutes at the end of an appointment for my one year old and three year old. She was very rushed and seemed a bit flighty to me. Her assistant, Eva, did not seem comfortable around my children - was afraid to touch them because of 'germs' (they had a virus that was going around - the reason for the appointment) She yelled at my three year old to not touch items in the office. The visit cost $120 and I regret every penny of it. If it wasn't for Gabby I would have no stars highlighted for this business. read more

I'm so sorry to report that I can no longer support Dr. Carol Doroshow, at The Kids Clinic. This was not the way I felt at first, in fact I was very happy and told ALL my friends about her. My children loved it there and I thought they had a great "family pratice". We've been going there ever since my oldest (we have 6 children) was 4 years old (she is now 11) and was planning on having my new addition being apart of this legacy. My husband has his own business and so we have always choosen to pay by cash so we could keep our accounts current. I also use to live in Redmond, now in Millcreek and so we traveled a "few" miles to get to Seattle for our appointments. Recently, however, I had a baby in December of 2010 (number 6) and life became a little unbalanced, even though, I was still able to make my appointments on time for her visit. The reason I bring this up is why I am now leaving the clinic. I had scheduled my other 3 children for the following month for their check up and I totally forgot about it! Yikes! (They never made the reminder call like they normally do, either.) When she called, she told me, if I could make the appointment in 15 minutes (I live about a 1/2 an hour away, if ther is no traffic) they wouldn't charge me for the first missed appointment at $160.00. Unfortunately, for me I was still breast feeding 8 to 10 times a day and couldn't even get there in an 1/2 hour, at my best! That's when her (one of the front desk people) tone changed and she became very condescending. She began to tell me how I lost them money and what it cost them. I completely agreed and would even pay something but $480.00 seemed a bit steep. She didn't care. I felt blindsided and as I told the office manager later...I felt betrayed! Having our own business, I understand cash flow but I also understand customer loyalty. There can be a compromise. They refused and sent the bill 6 months later. The office manager told me it was about the bottom line and my word against his receptionist. It's sad...Dr. Dorshow was great but unfortunately, it's also about the bottom line for me, too...consistancy in the office! I have since found a great doctor at Cascade Natural Medicine in Kirkland and you better believe I called around and found that Dr. Dorshow office is about the only one that makes such a steep penalty, for missing appointments, especially with clients that have been there for years! So bottom line...for Kids Clinic...it's all about the money! So sad...she could have WAY more revenue from me...if they would have just had compassion! read more

After bouncing around a couple different Seattle pediatricians, we have found a home at the Kids Clinic. Impeccable care and advice and we feel like people, not numbers, when we walk in the door. You can't go wrong with either Dr. Doroshow or Dr. Rodriguez. Yes, you have to sign up for a $50/year fee for electronic record keeping (which includes a handy app that you can use for email inquiries and access records) but that is a small price to pay for the level of care and availability. I've never called and not been able to get in same-day. read more

Their "Hello Health" patient portal is a really unfortunate business decision made by this so-so practice. They require you to pay a yearly fee to be a part of their practice in order to enroll in their patient portal, which, if you're a healthy patient, you will never ever use. We won't be back just on principle. Once we looked into this company, it was obvious that they are profiting off this fee, in getting their computerized charting system for free. I took my children to see Dr. Doroshow at Kids Clinic for eczema. It was not a positive experience. Dr. Doroshow is quite knowledgeable as a pediatrician, but she is in no position to run a business, but somehow does not have a office manager to help her with billing. On our first visit, we were wrongly charged an extra $350 on our credit card, which she promptly refunded. Then we were charged twice for the online portal that she mandates. She had quoted us $171 each for a lab test that she recommended for our children, but after the lab charged us more than double that amount, she responded and said that insurance rarely covers this type of lab test. So I am uncertain why she quoted us the post insurance price... I don't think she sees a dime from the labs so I give her the benefit of the doubt. Moving forward, she stood us up for an appointment once to discuss the result of the lab, but she was sick so that is no issue. We simply had a 10 minute phone conversation the next day. Well, she billed us $280 for that 10 minute phone call... but on the bill she wrote "25 minutes consultation" for each child. I wrote her an e-mail asking her to clarify the bill, and receives an angry response that she does not want to deal with billing issues, and asks us to find another doctor. She said she is the only doctor with her qualification in Washington State, and she is too busy caring for her patients that she has no time to deal with my questions (I had written her two other e-mails over the past two month to ask about the discrepancy in price of the lab she recommended). This is ironic, because I had written her once with the title "eczema for my children getting worse," and she did not bother responding to that one... I understand that doctors do not like to deal with billing issues, but then she chooses not to hire professionals to help her with billing, and dismisses patients because there are natural questions regarding getting billed over $1000 for two labs that so far has not helped our children. read more

I am going to repost below the letter that I sent to Dr.Doroshow several years after my son's misdiagnosis at this clinic: Dr.Doroshow: I wanted to share my son L. K.'s story with you so that if you have another patient like him you will be educated and make the right calls. L was your patient when he was 12 and developed a bulls-eye rash on his leg. We brought him in to your practice immediately to get a diagnosis. If you look back in his records you will see that there is a drawing of the bulls eye rash- the PA drew it right in his chart. The PA saw him and diagnosed him with cellulitis, and prescribed 10 days of antibiotics. An EM rash is a definitive diagnostic marker of Lyme disease, and your practice was the only one that actually saw the EM rash. We returned to your practice many times after this EM rash for symptoms like severe fatigue, migraines, light sensitivity, other skin rashes, and constipation- no one made any connection between all these symptoms and the bullseye rash, or questioned why a previously healthy, active child suddenly was sick and tired all the time. Your team said it might be CFS and advised us to go the the CFS clinic at UW, which was a total waste of time. What L needed was aggressive antibiotic treatment. At the time I knew very little about Lyme disease, and did not know that we had it here in WA state. Had Lucas been diagnosed properly at this time he might have made a full recovery. Instead, we waited 5 more years before he was diagnosed with Lyme disease, and by then it was too late to treat easily. Lucas developed severe symptoms of lyme disease. He now has late stage neurological Lyme disease, and cannot function as a typical 21 year old does. He has not been able to attend school for 4 years, and was not able to graduate high school. We have applied for SSI as he may be disabled long term. I would not wish the hell of Lyme disease on anyone, especially an innocent child. Please, educate yourself and your team so that this does not happen again. You and your team missed the diagnosis. Lyme disease is here in Western WA. You should know that as a pediatrician, and so should your team. You owe it to your patients to be aggressive in referring for treatment should you have another child who presents with an EM rash, fatigue, flu like symptoms, etc. Its too late for Lucas, but I am sure you and your practice will have other children for whom it is not too late. Know the signs, diagnose promptly, refer for treatment immediately. Its your obligation to know how to diagnose it so that more lives will not get ruined because of this awful disease. I live about 15 miles away from this office but reading the great reviews here, I decided to take the hike. My son has a knee problem for which we have been at Seattle Children's before, and I wanted to go with a dr who is friendly towards a naturopathic approach. During the appointment, Dr Doroshow decided within the first five mins of seeing my child that "he has a speech delay". My child is not even 2.5 and he is fully bilingual and articulate in both languages so this could not be more off the mark. She then asked that he didn't touch the walls with the toy he found in the bin there--this is a kids clinic and you can't worry about your walls when you are seeing a patient, we are your clients after all. Then she wanted us to go to Seattle Children's right away and made a call, saying she had privileges there (I will skip the part where I found the front office musty and messy but part of this must be a Northwest thing, I find a lot of cafes and other businesses to be musty and unkempt too). She said she will call me to discuss after we have been seen. Anyway, we went to Seattle Children's and were admitted to the ER after a wait, just like any person who walks in to the ER, and everything played out just like the last time we were there, no difference. I don't think the privileges did anything for us. What is disappointing to me is it has been 6 days and I have yet to receive a call from her to discuss the results. She seemed to care, but apparently she doesn't. She was off the mark with the "speech delay" diagnosis she was too quick to jump into, and she also dismissed me when I told her we use the homeopathic nosodes. Needless to say, we won't be going back there and we are definitely not paying the $50/year portal fee and the countless other fees listed on their introduction sheet. read more

We have been long time patients of The Kids Clinic and have always appreciated the care and friendly atmosphere of the Dr Doroshow and The Kids Clinic staff. Unfortunately, things have changed. The front office has made many mistakes, that we have had to rectify. The staff is not as helpful or cheerful as they once were and they now charge you to use an online records system to stay at their clinic. The things that I was once able to easily get through their clinic, I am now told costs their clinic money and they have to ration them ( we are talking about a 50 cent vials to dispense medicine they prescribe). I wasn't planning on leaving their clinic because I do appreciate Dr Doroshow's unique approach to medicine but things have clearly changed and they have become way to complicated trying to deal with their office and the unhappy staff at their clinic. read more

They make you buy access to you healthcare records, lots of billing mistakes, stuff missing from medical charts. I wanted someone focused on my child's wellness, and she's been a great teacher...as a worried first time parent who reads too much stuff on the internet, she has put my mind at ease many times and is always happy to take lots of time to answer my many questions. We have seen Dr. Doroshow at the Kids Clinic several times now, and each time I am really happy with the service and care she provides. She listens to our concerns and does a great job explaining options and asking how we would like to proceed when appropriate. She doesn't seem at all bothered when I ask for school paperwork or other tedious record keeping. I'm really glad we switched from one of the busy multi-doc clinics--clinics that made us feel like just a number, don't let the door hit ya on your way out! My kids are now 11 and 9, and we've been seeing Dr. Doroshow at the Kids Clinic since they were babies. Dr. D always takes time to listen to me and my children. Any and all of are concerns are taken seriously. She lets us know all of our options, and the advantages and disadvantages of each. My oldest child has ADHD - Dr. D knew I didn't want to immediately turn to medication, so helped us with some alternative approaches. In the end she helped me decide on medication, and it was absolutely the right decision. Had she not patiently worked with me, I would not have has as much confidence in meds as I do. My kids absolutely love going there (they have AMAZING wall murals and a great play area!) and I have complete confidence in Dr. Carol's skills, compassion and depth of knowledge. I love having a Dr. that not only thoroughly explains all the pros and cons of every immunization, but also encourages and offers references for alternative treatments for conditions (one example being cranio-sacral) I feel like Dr Carol really takes the time to listen to my questions and get to know my family. We have been taking our kids to Dr. Carol for over 17 years! We met Carol a little sooner than expected because our homebirth child had to go to Children's at 48 hours. Our midwife had recommended her and it was very reassuring to have her her help in the hospital. We travel out of town to come to The Kids Clinic for the personal rapport and good advice. It would be nice when you make an appointment to see a dr. for a newborn check if the doctor was actually there for the appointment. The dr. hasn't been in the office the last 3 visits I have had with my children. I would not recommend her to any of my friends. read more

So my relationship with Dr. Doroshow and The Kids Clinic started when my child was born, and I was really impressed with her and the staff there - at first. For a while I left The Kids Clinic and saw a naturopathic doctor, but it became so difficult to get appointments with the naturopath, so we went back to Dr. Doroshow. We've been consistently going there for several years now, and I'm very sad to report that my relationship with the clinic has ended on a some what sour note. It seems like for a little while now Dr. Doroshow has become short with me. She doesn't explain things as of late and seems irritated when I ask her for an explanation. It wasn't always like this, I'm not sure whats changed, maybe I'm one of those parents that gets on her nerves - I don't know. At first I thought maybe she was just having a bad day, but it has been a regular thing for a while now. On our last visit I really became displeased with her attitude, and realizing this was becoming a regular thing, I decided to try and locate another clinic. I've also been getting attitude from the young gal who sits at the front desk, she tries to act sweet but other things like her tone of voice and facial expression all communicate something not so sweet. The clinic has 1 or 2 other doctors there, who as of late seem to be rotating alot. Over the years we've seen a couple of great physicians come and go from there, so the lack of consistency also bothers me a little. It's difficult to get appointments as of late too. I can say that prior to the unpleasant things I've mentioned above, I was quite happy there, I'm really not sure what has changed. The staff has changed some, a great doc and MA left not too long ago. Maybe it was a personality conflict, but my kid has been a patient there for years, so I would've hoped that they would have maintained a more professional and positive attitude. I mean that's part of being in the medical field, working with all different types of people and personalities, and they all deserve your respect. I wish the clinic well, and I have no doubt that there are patients there who are happy with the care they receive, this is one person's personal experience you're reading. I'm saddened things have ended on a sour note, as I would have liked to continue going to the clinic, but the recent attitude and lack of professionalism will prevent me from going there anymore. We, my wife and I, have chosen to no longer take our 6 children to The Kids Clinic as a result of their ridiculous billing methodologies and less than professional communication styles. My wife made a review (but it has been deleted...what a surprise) on her experience with The Kids Clinic and I was going to let that be our final communication, but unfortunately the clinics billing department called me directly and brought me into their 'circle' of poor business. We received the first bill last week for several appointments that had taken place over the last six months but insurance did not cover (see prior posting). Today, seven days later, I received word that it would go to collections tomorrow if they didn't get paid. Bummer for your condescending attitude and strong arm tactics to collect a few hundreds bucks. Their lack of patience in letting me send them their money (30 days is standard) has resulted in a lack of patients (16 kids) in the future from us and multiple other families that will be heading to Cascade Natural Medicine in Kirkland. read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. We've attempted to get in with them 3 separate times for appointments and each time they've cancelled on us. The last time I will tried with the Kids Clinic was this morning. After placing my son in daycare and making the drive down from Edmonds, I was told when I walked into the office that the appt. was cancelled and that they'd tried to reach me. I find that hard to believe because I have ZERO missed calls / voicemails on my phone (they called my correct number the previous 2 cancellations at least). Instead of apologizing when I told them this was the THIRD time they've cancelled on us - a blond haired woman gave me an attitude and said "thank you very much, bye-bye". Unbelievable! Not even an apology. There's no excuse for THREE consecutive cancellations just to get in the door for a 15 minute Meet and Greet Appointment. If this is how incompetent their staff is then it can't speak very well for their establishment. I will be sure to let others know about my experience - It's apparent that they've got enough patients now that they don't care about new relationships with new patients - they might as well just told us that from the beginning though! read more
