Close you're eyes. You're in Nagshead, the favored beach destination on the Mid-East Coast. You've…read morebeen waiting for this all year - through the desperately cold winter, the rainy spring. You're here now. You've made it. No work. No phone. No email. You see the sunset, you glance over to catch the ocean waves crash on the shore leaving behind a trail of broken seashells while the smell of thick salt water stings in your eyes. The seagulls with their repetitious calls reverberate off the sand. You see beach goers enjoying the last of their weekend while their kids play in ankle deep ocean water. The rays dances off your tanned skin while the sun play peekaboo in the passing clouds. Now imagine all that - from 2,000 feet above the ground on the smoothest, quietest hang glider as your instructor / tour guide points out various landmarks. You soar over the coast when the instructor asks "Do you wanna go a little crazy" Suddenly the glider swoops up into a stall (along with your heart beat) and you nose dive back into a glide swallowing just in time to get your heart from out of your throat. That is Kitty Hawk Kites. A wonderland of anything that has wings. We were fortunate enough to get dips on the tandem glider and then headed off to the lessons on the dunes. We opted for the 2,000 ft height and it was awesome. Had the weather cooperated, in hindsight, I woulda gone even higher. Your visit to Kitty Hawk Kites will be very dependent on weather, but your instructors will keep you updated if you need to reschedule or wait a bit for cloud cover to dissipate. It's well worth the wait. Our instructors, Andy and Mike were perfect and the Ultralight Pilot, Johnny, was one of the chillest people you'll ever meet. It was so cool, but one of those things so awesome, it's kinda hard to explain, but it HAS to be experienced. Then head off to the instructor lesson on the dunes in the state park. It's cool since you're learning how to take off by running down the dune until the glider takes over. Your instructors are running down the dune tethered to you to make sure it all goes according to plan. What an awesome experience! DEFINITELY something you'll want to do if you wanna make your beach week a step above average. You fly twice, then the rest of your class goes until you repeat it all again. After your 4 flights, you have 1 victory flight and then you get your log book - on your way to being a certified hang glider!

I have a walking disability and was able to go up in the parasail, but more importantly, land safely back in the boat. We also opted for the picture package and were excited to see all the shots when we got home. Super fun! This was my first time jet skiing so I was nervous at first as the jet ski throttle was very sensitive and I ended up jerking my passengers around until I got the hang of it. After a few minutes I got it and we had smooth skiing. There's a large area to drive around in and we were able to get some nice speed.

Bottom Line: Unique and quality toys and friendly service…read more OBX Toys and Engraving, formerly Monkey Business/Make it Personal, opened around June 2020 on the bypass/Hwy 158 at MP 13.5 in the same shopping center with Sound Feet Shoes and Radio Shack (maybe in Yellowhouse Gallery's old spot?). I enjoyed wandering around this toy store. I was looking for a family friendly game but I wasn't able to make a decision so I moved on to checking out the plethora of Melissa and Doug toys and the Create-a-Critter machine. I've always been a Melissa and Doug fan because I feel like they make quality, timeless toys. I like their wooden puzzles in particular but they offer offer lots of great toys. Anyone who likes Melissa and Doug will probably appreciate the diverse selection at OBX Toys. Create-a-Critter was new to me. Lucky for me there was a little boy making a bear so I got to witness a little bit of the creation process. Basically, Create-a-Critter is like Build-a-Bear. You pick the critter you want to make yours and then the staff help you use this big gumball-machine-looking-thing that fills the critter to make it a plush toy. Critters start at about $20 and then you can pick out outfits and such. In addition to selling toys, including hosting Create-a-Critter birthday parties, OBX Toys also has an engraving business. I saw some of their samples but didn't get a very close look. Also, I saw an advertisement that says they do gender reveal boxes which seems like a neat idea. I didn't interact with the staff while I was at the store but I saw them helping other customers and could see how kind, patient and helpful they are. I definitely plan to return the next time I am in the area.

I have visited this store a few times. I always end up…read moregetting tons of stuff and spending a small fortune! haha! The shop itself is very narrow, tightly-spaced and a little tough to navigate through. But it's still worth a look. Great selection of all kinds of toys, old and new and many different brands as well. I've managed to get some interesting deals on some must-have items. I even found an entire toy set I had when I was a kid, which are some of my favorite types of finds as they take me back to my childhood. The prices can sometimes be a bit steep, but if you're a serious collector or you're just a big kid at heart, then it's totally worth it! My favorites are the wrestling figures, there are so many to choose from and some you can't find anywhere else. Some awesome additions to the collection have been found here. However, some toys in the store are hanging on the shelf in a plastic bag, which makes it difficult to see what they are and to browse through as I have to take all of them off the rack one-by-one to get to the one I want to see. If there was an easier way to do that, it'd be great. I'm sure the other patrons don't appreciate me holding up traffic while I rifle through several dozen little baggies that are above my head, trying not to tear the plastic or knock everything off the wall while I am squeezed in the six-inch amount of floor space between the displays. I also like the Hot Wheels cars, the blind boxes, and they usually have some really cute stuff by the front door like scented candles with cool themes, plushies, and bright, colorful goodies that could lift anyone's spirit with their innocent and happy stylings. Overall, I think it's a great spot to get some really cool pieces of one's playful past or a new addition to the lifelong obsession! So whether you're a sentimental sap who needs a good reminder of simpler times, or if you have managed to maintain your imagination and enjoy some wholesome fun, then this is the place for you! (and me, since I happen to fit both descriptions.) (they could use some shopping baskets, though.)
