This is a wonderful hidden little gem, In a strip mall in north Dallas with ample parking. However, the interior is simple, elegant and mod. The owner played with another musician Friday night and they made an amazing duo, the rest of the band is to be commended as well, got to hear some Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel and the like. Love, love, love this place. This is my second visit here in less than three days. Everything I've had so far is super fresh, down to their chips. I'm not sure if they're homemade but it didn't matter. They were crisp and tasty. Also, their chicken tortilla soup, served hot and filled with flavor, was amazing. I highly recommend ordering the bowl instead of cup size. It's that good. Overall, I'm really impressed with the quality and taste of the food. It's a tiny restaurant hidden from street view. I've actually passed up this place several times because I didn't think that it was worth the try. Pleasantly surprised. Will keep coming back. read more

Last night, my husband and I had dinner and enjoyed the talented jazz trio and fantastic female vocalist Rosana Eckert here! Definitely worth more than the cheap $10 cover. It is a somewhat small, cozy, intimate venue and we love this place. We sat at a table right by the stage and the volume level of the group and vocalist was perfect -- not too loud! The food was fantastic and the service superb. My husband had the meatloaf and I had the pork. They also have an appetizer menu, wine, and mixed drinks. All are reasonably priced. The owner, Tony Hakim, a local well-known jazz musician and vocalist, was there and made everyone feel welcome. It was like he had invited us to his home for the evening! This place attracts some great musicians, and I have come here a number of times to hear friends; however, I will not go back. Your bill WILL be inflated, and I'm not talking about the music cover charge. Drinks that you never ordered will be added; food you never ordered will be added; servers will make up their own tips. The food is just not good. Also, multiple times I have seen a woman Kim--friend of the owner--invite herself onstage in the middle of a song, grab the mic, and barge in on another performer's set. First the GREAT. Not many listening venues outside of NYC for jazz of the caliber I heard that night. To have world renowned drummer Ali Jackson there with the outstanding Fredrick Sanders on piano speaks to a commit to quality. Major kudos to the owner for providing such a venue. $10 was more than fair to see a band of this quality. The food was very mediocre for the price I think they can do better. The pork tenderloin had good flavor but was badly overcooked and veggies lacked seasoning. Service was excellent with a fairly crowded room and not a lot of waitstaff they checked on us often. What a surprising evening .... we were driving around looking for some place new, and decided to give this place a try. We had very low expectations when we saw the name and the signage, and got a little nervous when we saw the oddly eclectic menu, but were delighted with what we ordered (chicken nachos and chile relleno) and the superb jazz band. We just held our company Christmas party there this past week and it exceeded expectations. The live music was the perfect backdrop, the food was amazing, the atmosphere and lighting set the perfect mood. The bartender, server and whole team did a great job taking care of us. We can honestly say in the 28 years of Christmas parties, this one was the best by far. The pricing for renting out the restaurant was reasonable and worth every penny. We visited this evening and had the best time. We did not plan on eating but ended up having the cream of mushroom soup and it was delish! The chocolate cake was divine. They ran out of ice cream but it only added to the charm of this venue. It reminded me of an intimate NYC jazz bar where the owner gets up and sings with the band. Speaking of the musicians, the music was first class and it made this a special night out. We will return regularly, we loved it that much. The mood lighting, ambience and customer service added to the venue. If you want a romantic night out with your partner, give this place a try. So impressed. Note: the cover is $10 per person and so reasonable given the quality music. It beats a night at a loud obnoxious club. This is truly a perfect date night venue. I have been going to this restaurant for years. It's a bit pricey, but a very good friend of mine performs there from time to time, so I go when she is there. The food is good, but you just never know what to expect, or what you are going to pay for when the check comes. My last and probably final experience was tonight. I had a 16.00 appetizer, salad and two glasses of wine. When the check came, there were added charges: 10.00 cover (expected but I think outrageous when you pay for dinner). My total bill was 67.00 for salad, 2 glasses of wine and cover charge...there was a 25.00 table charge added to my friends check in addition to the 10.00 cover! Outrageous! Owner Tony, your food is good but not that good! You are a small fish in a big pond. Not worth it! read more

It's a fairly decent spot, but the service was deplorable. I attended a concert my good friends were performing, arrived before their last set and was still charged a music cover. I asked the server how much Maker's Mark whiskey costs, she said 8 or 9 bucks. I ask how much Jim Beam costs, she said she'd lower the price because they just acquired it and it hadn't been priced. Fast forward to conclusion of concert, she still charged me the same amount as a much higher quality spirit, which makes no sense at all. I'm angry at this point, so I leave without tipping. As I review my bank statement, I find she tipped herself 25%. That's super shady. I admire their advocacy of jazz music, but to blatantly steal from their customers is unforgivable. The ambience is very nice and so was surprised how good the sound was here. This place is...The. Best. Tony & Lisa are the ultimate hosts. Let's start from the beginning. We (my dad & I) called ahead and let them know we were first time guests. I'm visiting from Atlanta for my birthday week. Lisa immediately reserved a special table for us. (Yay, Lisa!) We were greeted personally by Tony who asked our names and if we were first time guests. The setting is intimate, casual, and very comfy. When Lisa realized Tony didn't seat us in our reserved (bigger!) table, she immediately moved us. Drinks were awesome - you could taste the flavors AND the alcohol! The only reason this isn't a 5-star review is my steak, while ordered medium, was delivered overcooked at well done. But everything else...absolutely everything else...was platinum level. My water glass was never empty, we asked about soups and promptly received samples of BOTH (chicken tortilla and chicken & dumplings...both amazeballs), and when our pizza appetizer was late, Lisa delivered an already-packed-to-go FREE dessert! The entertainment, Hans York, playing a tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim, was awesome. The whole band entertained from 7:30 until 10...Tony even hopped on stage a couple of times. Bonus for us!! They don't put any alcohol in their mixed drinks. The margarita was a $8 lemon juice. If they want to charge $10 entrance fee to watch the band play music then that's ok, but please don't cheat with your drinks. I saw the bartender put less than 1/2 a shot when preparing mixed drinks. First time visitor...The Kitchen has some of the best live jazz you will hear in all of Dallas. Don't miss a chance to hear Tony the Owner play some unbelievable music as well. I am still amazed how the performance made me reactivate my Facebook which I had deactivated for a long time just to go live on Facebook. It is like rarely; I go live on my social platforms. I wanted to share this beautiful mind-blowing evening with my friends and family. My phone battery was almost dead so after going live for about twenty-five minutes, I had to end it. There were lots of comments being posted on my video asking me what, who, and where the event was taking place. I replied to one of the comments telling them it was a part of my assignment, in my Music class @Kellogg Community College. It was a great evening for deserts and Jazz. My husband and I came here for a much-needed date night. We happened to come on a night when Tony (owner) was performing and he - and the rest of the band - was fantastic. His passion for music, humor and casual, humble approach to his craft made for an enjoyable, relaxing evening. We did not order dinner service but instead had a couple of drinks and tried their cheese board ($20, rather pricey for a platter of swiss, pepper jack and cheddar cheese cubes, grapes, crackers and 4 slices of salami). Some of the cheese tasted freezer burnt and we found a couple of moldy grapes. But based on other reviews we knew the food was not the highlight here - we were here for the music and it was fantastic. Will definitely come back. read more

Just spent an incredible evening of great music entertainment at The Kitchen. My wife and I have been going there for the last few years when we want to have an evening of music and casual dining and have never been disappointed but last night was simply great. Tony presented an evening of Crosby Stills Nash and Young music with two singers accompanying him on the vocals and wth excellent backup musicians. The acoustics there are great for such an intimate cafe. I should mention that although the menu is not extensive there is an enough variety to satisfy almost everyone. The Kitchen Cafe has to be the best value in the Metropole for great music and good food. read more
