Had a 7 p.m. reservation on a Thursday evening. The food was excellent, but service was terrible after our server left. No one bothered to check on us after our entrees were served. We ended up sitting for quite a while with an empty wine glass on the table and two glasses of water. Not quite sure what happened in the service department. We had the crab cake, kampachi appetizer special, tortelli and saltimbocca along with the green beans. The food was delicious. May come back, but very dubious of the service. read more

Had dinner at The Kitchen Table the last two nights and I am disappointed that I will not return this evening. Had a pasta dish the first night and the fried chicken last night. Each was excellent. The Market Greens salad was very beautiful as well as delicious with a very light dressing that complimented the ingredients. Nothing to write home about. Saltimbocca was like eating pure salt. Had to drown it with lemon to make it edible. A $14 glass of wine was barely 1/3 full. And charging for bread and butter? Was that really necessary. Risotto was good. Panecotta tasted like yogurt. Service was ok but slow. Won't be returning. read more

This has been one of our favorite restaurants in Marin since they opened. The food is outstanding, the service is great, the vibe is casual and fun, and the wines are fantastic (and reasonable). We have been getting takeout there weekly since the pandemic started (ok-maybe twice a week), but we finally ventured out for the first time to have brunch at TKT. We were so excited they were serving brunch outside, we just had to try it. We thought their dinners were great, but this was one of the best brunches we have ever had. The food was ridiculously good, and we loved the unique items along with the more traditional choices. Everything was super clean and the entire staff was very thoughtful about how they did things. Yum Yum Yum. Cute little spot but the food really shines. The mushroom pizza was heavenly (and I'm not even a big fan of mushrooms). Their homemade pastas are amazing. Had a girls night out! Everything was so delicious! The ravioli uovo was decadent and rich, the chicken saltimbocca was crispy and flavorful, the carbonara was the best I've ever had. Th pizza was amazing! The crust was crispy and the sauce was so flavorful. And it all paired perfectly with my glass of Pinot noir. I dined at Alexander Alioto's previous restaurant in SF and the marvel of his raviolo uova has echoed in my brain and on my lips ever since. What a fabulous dish. There's that and much more at The Kitchen Table at the end of 4th St in San Rafael. The space is small, simple, sleek and airy with an open kitchen in the back. The menu is of moderate-size, offering a variety of options that bridge the gap between culinary artistry and Italian comfort food. Try a delicious appetizer of salmon crude with gigante beans and tomato, excellent gnocchi or risotto with seafood, (two dishes that often don't fare well in restaurant kitchens.) A vongole and carbonara as good as you will find in Italy. Chicken saltimbocca was so moist and delicious (boneless thighs instead of breast filets.) Perfect fried chicken. Dessert was a panna cotta and lemon tart both made in the kitchen. An expertly executed wine list heavy with Italian varietals and reasonable prices. We are going back soon as there are still several dishes left that we want enjoy and of course one more raviolo uova before I die. Soon this will be a tough ticket so book now--5 stars! read more

We both had a pasta dish, mushroom pasta and spaghetti with clams. Both were just OK, nothing special. Our desert, white chocolate cake with caramel, banana and ice cream was even less remarkable. Food at adjacent tables looked good, so maybe we picked the three poor choices on the menu. The restaurant was crowded by 5:45, so obviously some people like it, but we won't be back. read more

Just finished a wonderful dinner at this restaurant on Fourth Street. Didn't know what to expect on early reviews when restaurant first opened. Service issues etc. Couldn't be more pleased with our experience. Reservation was timely honored and we we greeted pleasantly. Note: be sure to reserve ahead as on this Wednesday night place was full and space is limited. Menu is inviting with a couple of entree specials. We spilt a nice grilled peach and corn salad with leek slices and lettuce. Special fish was halibut with onion rings and Swiss chard. My wife loved it. I had the chicken saltimbocca. Great. Chanterelles with lots of prosciutto covering three large breast slices. Portions are more than adequate. Wine list by glass or bottle is fairly priced and varied. We did a couple of glasses of Prosecco and a Pinot and a Chard. Service was well coordinated and we were never rushed. We passed dessert but I think it would be as good as the rest of the menu. This restaurant deserves its early successes. read more

We happened upon this little treasure thanks to yelp. What a lovely dinner and the welcoming staff and family atmosphere made us hesitant to leave! When we did leave, we felt like we were leaving family after spending a special time together- no kidding! But you want to hear about the food! We sat at the bar where we could watch all the preparation and chat up the chef/owner. We had Parmesan crisps with our market salad ( OH! The mozzarella! Divine!!) and then dove into our linguine with clams. Fresh housemade pasta was a perfect foundation for garlic, tomatoes and the biggest , melt in your mouth clams we've ever had. ( I'm certain I have never even referred to clams in this way)Local bread was perfect for mopping up the briny sauce ( and virgin olive oil served alongside) And then- my favorite part of a meal..... dessert. Do not leave here without having the buttermilk panna cotta & the s'more. They really should be had together in my opinion ! The panna cotta was tart, creamy and light- with fresh raspberry- a sight to behold and devour . Being a chocolate lover , I couldn't resist the s'more though my better half thought we should only have one dessert. The chocolate was a perfect little flourless chocolate cake - tender crumb on the inside of a thin crust/shell topped with toasted minimarshmallows and presented alongside a row of graham cracker crumbs and a small pool of caramel. I preferred to have a bit of each at the same time . Capped by an espresso- this dinner could not have been better . We wish you great success ! read more

We were celebrating a friend's birthday with four other women. I have to say the food was great but the service was incredibly slow. It must have taken 45 minutes to get our salads and then another 30 minutes or more before our entrees came. We weren't in a hurry but I would never eat here before going to the movies as you would never get out in time. The salad was skimpy (hardly any avocados). We did love the seafood risotto and the dessert was delicious although they did not give us a free one for the birthday girl. Overall the food was good but the service was not great and no one ever apologized for how long it took to get our food. We probably would not eat here again. read more

From service, to food, to atmosphere this is currently my favorite restaurant. The service and the atmosphere are comfortable, but at the same time it feels like fine dining. We started with the marinated olives and some wine which was a perfect amount to enjoy while waiting for the appetizer, more wine and the Poke which had a lovely crunch from the fried noodles, beautifully fresh fish, and the perfect touch of chili oil complimented the dish. Risotto is always a favorite here. Portions are in the smaller side, but all the produce and proteins are high quality and I eat them slowly to savor each bite. I feel like I have had a mini vacation when I leave. read more

The geniuses behind TKT have managed to successfully execute a unique dining combination: the highest quality food and service with a casual, neighborhood-y cafe dining vibe. The love, care, and thought that goes into every dish here is evident in every delicious bite. Every course we had was excellent; some standouts include the tender and well-balanced tuna crudo, the buttery house made raviolo, and one of the best salmon entrees I've ever had. Don't miss the buttermilk panna cotta with fresh berries for dessert. Also love that their wine list has a focus on Central California Coast wineries --some of our state's most outstanding--like Ancient Peaks Winery. Great new intimate spot right on the West End of 4th street in San Rafael. Had dinner with another couple and tried many dishes. Started with the fried Mozzarella which was nice and soft with a crisp crust. The Tomato sauces was light and fresh. We shared the nicely done white pizza with mushrooms. The Fried Chicken was good to share allowing guilt free bites of the crispy shell. The home made pastas are very authentic. We make risotto at home and rarely risk having it out but this was perfect. The menu called out Al Dente and it was- cooked to the right balance. The S'mores dessert was a perfect cap. The wine list had some great choices in CA and Italy both by hr Glass and bottle and fairly priced. Welcome to the neighborhood! read more

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this restaurant for a mid-week date night. Wow- it was a remarkable night. We loved everything about this restaurant. The food, especially the sauces were delectable. It's clear that a true chef puts their heart and sole into the meal design and preparation. The chicken saltimbocca and mushroom app were our favorites. This is a foodie restaurant, but the ambiance won't disappoint either. We ran into a group of 6 women out for a GNO that night-- I'm inspired to schedule my next GNO here. There are good tables for 5 or 6, and the wine menu is VERY reasonable! I hope this restaurant doesn't get too popular as I want an easy reservation-- but I also want them to succeed, so hence the review. It was that good! I'm going to take my kids there for a "fancy" night out (gotta teach them manners somehow). They serve pepperoni pizza and fried chicken, so even my picky eaters will be happy. read more

I recommend that you go to The Kitchen Table (TKT) with friends so that you can try as many items on their menu as possible; you won't be disappointed with anything you order. We tried two appetizers, Fritto Misto and Crispy Pork Riblets, 3 entrees, Fettuccine Carbonara, Grilled Hawaiian Walu, and Chicken Saltimbocca, and two desserts, Strawberry Ice Cream Sundae and Lemon Tart. They were all so good, we almost wanted to lick the plates; anything that comes out of Chef Alexander Alioto's kitchen is outstanding. We dropped in on a Saturday night and we're lucky. We got two seats at the bar. The restaurant was very busy but efficiently run. The Staff were lovely. My grilled Maitake mushroom on fried polenta with mushroom jus was spectacular. The salad with pancetta and a poached egg was a perfect balance of bitter crisp frisée with the richness of the egg yolk, crunch of pancetta and earthiness of sauteed mushrooms. My husband loved his short ribs and mashed potatoes. The noise control is efficient for a busy restaurant. We will be back. read more
