My husband and I went here for your two year anniversary dinner last night. We first arrived 20 minutes early and since our table wasn't ready, we sat outside and waited (the view is just as nice on the lone chairs downstairs).
When we were later seated, the conversation with the server was awkward and stilted. I know how hard it is serving various types of people because I used to be a server, so I always try to go out of my way to make the conversation easy and flowy with any staff (server, busser, host, etc). It's generally appreciated; what's never happened is being looked down on for my answer. Ok, whatever maybe she's just stressed (though the grasshopper pub that we'd gone to the day before was packed both outside and in with only two servers, and our server yesterday was a delight despite having maybe 11 tables. This lady *might* have had 5-6 tables)
Anyways, I'd been looking at the menu since the night before because I'm weird like that, and my husband decided his pretty quick too. Folded and set aside the menus so we were ready when the lady came to take our drink order five minutes later. When we put in our order, she looked taken aback and displeased that we were only ordering dinner. ("Oh wow, okay! You're just going right for dinner, then." Pursed lips and cold eyes.) From there, we couldn't deny any more how she'd been looking down on us. Until then we'd been brushing it off.
We didn't see her again until forty minutes later when our meal was ready. By that point, we'd both finished our waters AND our beers and were waiting with empty glasses. The vibe we got when we asked for refills and two more stellas was that she was doing us a favor. We didn't see her again until the bill--no "how is everything?" or "can I get you anything else?" She dropped off the bill with the machine, then walked back inside to talk to the bartender while waiting.
The view was meh compared to the grasshopper pub, too.
Food was amazing though--A++ for the kitchen staff (who she can thank for the nice tip she got because she hadn't earned it).
Ambiance: 3.5/5
Food: 5/5
Service: 2/5
Would we go back? Definitely not.
Don't waste your time on this one--bang for your buck value is low. Lots of places make incredible food without being stuck up. (It was honestly surprising when compared to places like Gotham, Le Crocodile or Hy's, where the servers have always been warm and welcoming.) read more
