The friends I visited with took me to this lovely restaurant. The atmosphere was very charming, joyful and rustic. Our party sat outside where flower petals cascaded around us with every light breeze. And the sound of laughter from the children's party in the grassy part of the property was the background music. I was having such a great time with my friends that I forgot about taking photos of my food or their's for that matter. They've got a lot of choices on their menu and we settled on a Bombay Bowl & their burger special of the day - The Babushka with two pierogis in the burger. The bowl was pretty good - the tomato chutney it came with was awesome. I like that the bowls come in two different sizes. Pretty steep price for the small bowl, though. The burger was phenomenal. Were were are party of 3 adults and 3 children for lunch. VERY poor value of food received for cost of each and every item. For menu prices as high as they were, one would expect table service rather that stand in line at the counter to place an order. The orders arrives all at once - but some were clearly left to cool until all six were ready for delivery to the table. The server almost dumped the food and scurried off leaving us to sort which dishes were which and to be sure that the $100.00 order was correct. The location is very pleasant. If sitting in nice surrounds with overpriced and small portions with scant service is fine with you, by all means, this is the place for you. I felt that the poutine had too much oil and saucy and was a little too heavy for my liking. R quite enjoyed his burger and I did like the wedge fries that came with his meal. Walking into the Gumboot Cafe with the lights and trees it was kind of dreamy looking and we were pretty sure we were in for a treat! When I told a work colleague we were going to Roberts Creek for a couple of days he said we should check this place out! I always like going to a new place on a recommendation. The restaurant seemed like it was filled with locals which we took as a good sign. We were seated without a wait even without a reservation. I ordered the Flank Steak and a Hasselback Potato with Brussels Sprouts. The plate came out and it looked beautiful. The Brussels sprouts were definitely the star of the plate, seasoned perfectly and slightly smoky in flavour. However the steak and potato fell a little short for me. The Hasselback Potato needed to be crispier and tastier. The steak unfortunately was a bit on the chewy side and as with the potato was lacking in flavour. The Brussel Sprouts were perfect though! My husband ordered the Chorizo Burger with curry seasoned fries. This burger was AMAZING! The depth of flavour was so good...the spice from the Chorizo, the acidity of the Pickled Onion, the sharpness of the White Chedder, smokiness of the bacon all combined to be delicious! My husband devoured the burger and decided it might be the best burger he has ever had! We had a great evening and great service...would recommend this place when in the area! read more

I'm always sceptical when people gravitate towards a specific restaurant, and bury it in praise, and that scepticism has proven to be correct more often than not. We'd heard amazing things about this restaurant, and as options are notably limited in the area, we chose to give the Gumboot a try. It was incredibly busy when we arrived, and a queue had formed at the door. Unless the food is of Michelin star quality, or unless the option is starving to death, I never queue to eat anywhere. However, in this instance we chose to muscle our way through this twenty minute inconvenience for the sake of not returning home empty handed of this experience. First impressions? Dirty, unbelievably noisy, and smoky. The water served to customers is kept in glass jars on a low shelf at the entrance. The problem here is that the jars are all open, and the entrance is very dusty from the gravel parking. We skipped the water. I asked to be sat outdoors, as the music-and noise from the other patrons-was almost deafening indoors. This didn't improve our situation appreciably, as our table sat in a corner by the exterior wall of the building, and the wall/corner was covered in cobwebs and dirt. We were beginning to lose our appetite at this point, but soldiered on. It was another fifteen minutes before our dirty water was poured into our glasses at the table, but just as we were about to place out order, our sever was called away. I really don't need my hand held as an adult, but I do draw the line at indifference...and we had that in spades here. The food? I ordered a burger and fries, and when the burnt offerings appeared at the table, I thought, "Uh, what happened here?" So, the food wasn't worth the wait, was expensive, the restaurant was noisy and dirty, and the server couldn't have cared less. The possibility exists that we caught them on an off night; however, we really don't have the incentive to challenge that supposition. read more

We had takeout from here 2 times over the 3 days we were staying in the area and were quite impressed. We really loved the super salad and the buddha bowl! Both huge portions, fresh veggies, great flavour. I also tried the veggie burger which I didn't love but also recognize it wouldn't travel as well as the other dishes. Fries are more like home fries (big pieces of potato) and they were pretty good. We called to order and both times orders were ready in about 15-20 minutes. Charming place nestled in Gibsons right next to a growing farm and garden. We walked in on Saturday night around 6:30pm with no reservation but thankfully it was not busy and were seated right away. It's a small cozy place with tables set close together, some outdoor seating and a nice yard area. Even with the restaurant half full, it was LOUD, so I can imagine what it must be like on a busy night or with live music. The front of the menu boasts where all the ingredients come from (local, organic) which is appreciated. I decided for the Buddha bowl which comes with a variety of veggies, brown rice, tofu and avocado. You can add other protein like chicken, salmon, prawns for a surcharge. The base bowl is $18 which is pricey for what it is, but it was indeed delicious. My partner got the burger which housemade fries. The burger was excellent, one of the best homemade burgers I've tasted in a long time. The fries were thick cut wedges, not nearly as good as the burger. Service was spotty, not sure why since they weren't too busy. All in all, a tasty meal, about $50 before tip for 2 people with one beer. You're paying for quality here. read more

I went here as it was the only open local option to grab lunch and, being honest, it was a great surprise! I met the owner and I was craving for one of the burgers offered, he had a great recommendation: stick to the basics and go for the regular one.. well I admit it was one of the best burgers I've tried so far: perfectly cooked with savoury ingredients. I had the minestrone soup as a side and it was what I actually needed for this rainy weather. Also their patio the restaurant and their patio are pretty quaint. Instead of chit chatting with your friends at one of the table why don't you do your job and tend your tables. The kitchen is slow. Plus the food was a let down. We were in roberts creek for our anniversary and decided to eat here. They had live music, and a nice patio overlooking the garden. We sat outside as the weather was great. Service was good, and the food was very tasty. We shared the salmon burger and artic char. Both were done very well. For dessert we ordered cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding, which was huge. Tomorrow morning, I'll be trying the Gumboot Garden Cafe... but tonight, it's all about the lovely wooden tables, quiet music and a medley of conversations ranging from prime Saturday hiking to running to catch the ferry to tales from Burning Man. Ah, this is just the way I think of the Sunshine Coast. Dining solo seems like it's a normal occurrence: with a buddha bowl at my side and a book in my hand, the restaurant feels like it could also host a family dinner, located in the same house as Creekside Salon. With daily specials, burgers, and "hearty meals" I was in small town foodie heaven. My buddha bowl had raw and steamed veggies, brown rice, baked tofu, sesame seeds and peanut sauce. Outside of the avocado that tasted so good but felt out of place, it was perfect. It's the only restaurant in Roberts Creek, but I have the feeling that if I was here for a week, I'd still be working my way through the robust and tasty sounding menu. read more

First time here and enjoyed the live music . Disappointed the special appetizer was unavailable at 6 pm but understand these smaller places have to be vigilant on inventory. We had the salmon cakes and Shrimp appetizer instead and both were good. I had 1/2 Cornish game hen it was rustic and very good. My husband had the special braised lamb shank and gave it the thumbs up. Finished with Sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and Carmel sauce . One problem pudding not heated so was not as good as it should have been , although tasty. So a few hiccups but generally very good. Good food. Big portions. Excellent homemade bread." Service was a bit slow, but it looked like we came in at the tail end of a heavy rush. Room was incedibly loud at times -- crashing cutlery, dropped bottle, a few loud talkers -- but maybe it was just the spot we were sitting. Returning to Vancouver from short vacation in Powell River, Gumboot cafe has been often been a treat on the way to the ferry. We have eaten here in the past, and even though pricey, the food, setting and vibe made it worth it. Not sure what happened this time, but seemed like everything went wrong. Granted, it was 2pm, midweek. So maybe staff/cooks tired? Hubby ordered simple breakfast. It felt like it had been sitting since 10am - cold fried eggs, cold, dry fried potatoes. I ordered the $19 burger. Burger was very dry and tough - also felt like it had been sitting vs freshly cooked. Even had to send back the black tea, since it was brought to table lukewarm. Over $90 for this mediocre experience. We will have to keep eating at our very basic Village Inn in Sechelt - inexpensive, tasty and freshly cooked. Seeing the other reviews, I hope this was a rare glitch for the Gumboot. read more

This was our second time dining at the Gumboot, even though we had heard less than stellar reviews. Needless to say, we should have listened to the warnings! The food was below average, the wait was long, and our server made us feel incredibly awkward (acknowledging their lack of menu options, how they were out of a lot of stuff, insinuating that we were having a terrible time - which we were). We walked into this place very hungry with a family of six. The server took our order and she was very nice. If it were up to service and food quality this would be a five star restaurant. Unfortunately it isn't just those things, it took an hour for us to get our food. It was not very busy at all and it took an hour! When it came down to the food it was pretty ok. I'm a local on the Sunshine Coast and I live about an hour away from the Gumboot Restaurant. It's not uncommon for me to drive all the way down the Coast just to eat here as it's my favourite restaurant. I may be a bit biased due to the fact that I'm a vegetarian, but they also have plenty of tasty-sounding dishes for omnivores, often including fresh and local seafood and, if I'm not mistaken, some funky game. Their dishes are unique and delicious and I think very well-priced, and that's coming from a broke 20-year old with very little money to throw around. They also do half-orders of most everything, for those of you with even tighter pockets. The atmosphere is fun and cosy, with changing artwork from local artists, and the service is usually speedy and friendly. Sometimes it can be loud but it is a popular restaurant, and for good reason! If you're in the area, be sure to check it out; I would consider it a dining must. Afterwards, take a short stroll down to the ocean and check out the unbelievable view! No dinner here is complete without doing so! Oh, and they make breakfast until about 2 PM, which is always a bonus in my books. read more

Pretty pricey $17 and up for most entrées, and the food was okay. Kids meals were interesting, the burger is just that, meat on a bun. Nothing else. Mind you a lot of kids are picky but they should at least inquire about a few things like lettuce, tomatoes and cheese but nope, nothing. The entrée salad was very fresh. Kids noodles were a huge serving but mostly flavorless. Kids pizza was on two english muffin half's and had sausage. Pork sandwich was mediocre not a ton of flavor. This place was laughably bad. I've been to the gumboot cafe several times when traveling to the sunshine coast and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Had been curious about the restaurant and so when my girlfriend and I stayed nearby we thought we would check it out. Walking up the the restaurant we heard loud music from shitty speakers pumping out of the restaurant. We thought maybe they were closed even though it was 6pm perhaps we were early and kitchen was still doing prep. No they were open and the kitchen opens out to the entrance and they were rocking out. We went inside and could still hear their horrible techno music as we were waiting to be seated. Got our seats and kitchen music was louder than the nice music they were playing in the dinning area of the restaurant. The waiting staff would have been aware but didn't seem to care. Their whole attitude was that they couldn't care less about what they were doing. Long story short, the food was really bad and so we grazed and got the hell out. It's not cheap either so a really disappointing experience. Will never go back! read more
