The Lamplighter is almost exactly what you'd expect. I feel like you have to be a legacy restaurant to last for very long on Route 22 (its website says that it's "a place of time honored tradition") and the Lamplighter fits squarely in that category. Was visiting this restaurant visiting relatives from out of town. The service was decent and the waitress was friendly, but the food left a lot to be desired. The banana peppers and sausage starter gave the impression that they would be wrapped, but they were merely set on the same plate and cooked to different levels. The fettuccine with chicken and spinach was very bland, the chicken was a strange white color and very rubbery. The vegetables they came with had a strong metallic taste. Visited the Lamplighter with friends for dinner and a show (Chris Higbee). Had a great time! Food was excellent and the service was very good. The Holiday Inn Express is right behind the Lamplighter (walking distance) and the two businesses support each other. Spent the night and back to the LL the next morning (late morning ;-) for their breakfast buffet (omelet station). Great time & no need for a DD! read more

The Easter buffet was a terrible experience. The restaurant was overflowing with people tripping over each other. The food was very mediocre. Instant mashed potatoes, barely any toppings for the salad bar. The meat was just okay and the pies for dessert had no taste. Very disappointed as we wanted to make this a memorable dinner for the holiday. My son joked that this place is like a normal restaurant and a diner had a baby. This place is so freaking good!!!!I drove by this place on my way to the flight 93 memorial and had to stop on the way back. The service was excellent but the food way the showstopper. We ate in the "coffee shop" side. I had the lobster mac and cheese for 14 bucks and my daughter got a delmonico steak... Only 12 bucks. We ate so much that we were gonna bust and still took home 4 containers of left overs!!! Also the French onion soup had 3/4 inch of melted cheese on it. When you go for breakfast make sure you get a pancake. Yes, just one. They are as big as a plate, but so delishious that you crave them only hours after you finish one! Lunch is a good time just to get a salad. They are HEAPED with food. Dinner is the time for a bargain! They have a coffee shop special that's cheap, but WONDERFUL! you get soup or salad, bread, the dinner special of the week (prime rib was once!), plus a potato and a veggie, with a HOMEMADE dessert! Our breakfast tastes tend to the basic...and this place was great on that level. Eggs were perfectly done (one over easy, one medium), wonderful home fries, and a home-made white toast. Looked at menu online and thought it would be retro fun. Absolutely depressing instead! The main dining room was closed and we were told to take any seat in the diner by the hostess at at the main entrance who refused to make any eye contact with us while she looked at her phone, BTW she was not in her 20's, 30's,or 40's (your guess is as good as mine!)! So we sat in the diner and were fired up some for retro food. My wife ordered the 7oz filet cooked to med and I got the fried fish sandwich with onion rings. She got 2 sides with her dinner, baked potato and "Italian" veggies. Both were neither hot nor cold but unsettlingly not to a temp that would indicate either was freshly prepared. Her filet (ordered MED) was cooked to a nice grey aka Well Done after obviously being pre cooked, but at least it was warm! She had 2 glasses of wine both were in water stained glasses but on the bright side only the first one had fingerprints on! The final pathetic straw was a couple in the booth behind us in their 70's or maybe early 80's (no exaggeration) sending their soup back to be warmed up because it was not warm. How can you not send out hot soup, the absolute minimum of reheating any type food!!! Look up soup warmer on Amazon, every restaurant usually has something that keeps it warm during service time, this place might be the only one that doesn't! Whether you have parents or friends who are older you know things don't have to be volcano hot for them to be happy. The outside manicured surroundings of the property might suggest they are a nice successful place with their act together but their current street sign says "Help Wanted". They are only scratching the surface with that statement! BTW the same miserable "hostess" didn't even make eye/physical contact with us again when we were leaving so I piped up and said "Thank you, have a good evening" just to add to our miserable experience and she was forced to reply after she obviously was not prepared to have any human interactions even if her job demanded it . I should have taken pictures because I am not a horrible, miserable, prejudging dude wanting something for free...I've worked in the restaurant business for over 20 years, I just wanted to have a nice, fun meal that I didn't have to cook. All of my reviews from here on out will include pics! Believe me or not about our experience, I don't care. go eat there! My recommendation is for the owners is to set the building on fire, then everyone who works there can get unemployment and collect your insurance and move on to some other business that doesn't include any aspect of a public service industry or food! I've been to the Lampligher on three different occasions and the food has varied from very good to below average. My first experience at the Lampligher was at a Professional Meeting held in one of the banquet rooms. The meal consisted of steak, salad, potatoes and some other side dishes. Each was prepared perfectly and the service was excellent. My second experience was a sit down dinner with my grandmother. Although the service was excellent, the food was average. Recently, I was at the Lamplighter for their Sunday Buffet and was very disappointed. The salad bar was meager and the hot foods were either over cooked or sat too long in the heating trays. The only exception to this was the prime rib, which was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The highlight of the meal was the desserts. The Lampligher has excellent pies. read more

Terrible service. I was served a rotten baked potato 2x in a row. We asked the manager(Adam with the blue suit on) why they didn't open the potatoes before they sent them out. His reply was they like to let people cut the potatoes open themselves....The buffet workers were touching and refilling the food with their bare hands! We spoke to the manager(Adam with the blue suit on) and instead of accommodating us he got snippy and acted as if we were annoying him! We were told prior our arrival if we didn't like the buffet we could order from the menu. When we arrived we were told we could not order from the menu. The manager gave us permission to order from the menu and then said don't tell any one. Once we ordered the manager comes over and says "we made an accommodation for one of you to order I'm not sure what happen here and why you all ordered" Adam was more concerned about the name of the individual who told us we could order from the menu over the phone than the fact we We allow the handicapped( Adams words) special orders but this is the buffet room...." I've been going to the Lamplighter for 16 years, my favorite bartender Dan retired at age 80. Lindsey stepped in and filled his shoes admirably. My drink is waiting for me before I even get seated.They have the best fish sandwich in the county.Never had a bad meal or dining experience in either the dining room, diner or lounge. I had my baby shower at the Lamplighter in June of this year. I am so sorry it's taken me so long to write this, but now that my baby is due in just 20 days, it's now or never! From the beginning, Andrew and the staff were willing to work with me and my budget. I had allotted about 2 months to reserve the room, set the menu, invite guests and decorate. Needless to say I was a little stressed about it all. I shouldn't have been! From the minute I called to see if a private room was available the staff was at my disposal. We had 30 people show up and I arrived just 1 hour before to set up. I hardly had to do anything but put out my centerpieces! Our Hostess had the tables set in beautiful yellow linens to match my theme, and what I thought might seem like a dark room was bright and cheerful! The coffee was on and hot when I arrived, which my set up team was grateful for! The food was served on our schedule, and quickly! Nobody was left waiting while everyone else ate. The chopped Cobb salad was to die for and I still crave it all the time! One little boy that ordered the Reuben and Fries said it was the best sandwich he'd had in his entire life! The guests that ordered the Portabella Mushroom stack raved about it. Not only were the portions huge, but each meal came with Fruit Salad that was fresh and delicious! No one was left hungry or disappointed. I had two guests that requested special menu choices out of preference, both were accommodated and happy! We even forgot to bring writing utensils for the games and our Hostess pulled through with extras to spare! It could not have been a lovelier day if it had been anywhere else.
