This was our second dinner at Sonny's. Our main courses were good. I had a steak and it came out on the stone and was very good. The other dinner was the Steak Gorgonzola and it was very good. The fried zucchini was excellent. My only issues were, the prices are a little high for the area and our drinks were weak. I did witness a customer come in, sit down, ordered a beverage and review the menu and decided to leave. I wasn't trying to ease drop, but heard him advise the prices were to much for him. read more

Got a Stromboli and wife got a Reuben on gluten free bun. Both were excellent. Beer was cold and server was personable and attentive. We had a good time and got to the place just prior to dinner rush. More servers arrived and seemed to work well together to handle the crowd. We went in there today to have dinner. We were seated immediately and we sat there for 10 to 15 minutes. There was only one other couple in the restaurant and they were talking about how they had been in there since 3:30 and they did not get their food. It was 4:30. The blonde lady that works there came over. Talked to them. Looked right at us. Two or three times didn't even acknowledge us and we sat there and once we heard that they did not get their food. The other table we looked at each other and we walked out and this is what you're going to get when you go to this restaurant and this is not the first time that this happened to us at this restaurant. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming, but what truly made my experience unforgettable was our amazing waitress, Serinity. She went above and beyond in every way--friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about making sure we had a great time. It felt like she actually cared about our experience, which is rare these days. You could tell she knew the menu inside and out, and thanks to her recommendation, we tried the pierogies... and wow. Absolutely delicious! Her enthusiasm for the food was contagious, and she made us feel like we were regulars even though it was our first visit. I paid for 2 racks of ribs ($19+$5 for second rack), which were good, but the portion was very small and looked like what was presented in the menu as 1 rack! I did check with the waitress and she said that I had received my 2 racks!! I pretty sure no!! So even if these were meant to be 1/2 racks, still 4-5 rib would not qualify!! Also Cole slaw was dressed with i think straight vinegar?? Not good!! And while I'm bitching, for $14 only got 2 mushrooms stuffed with crab. We stopped for lunch and decided on Pgh Style corned beef & pgh style steak. The sammiches were good but a cream based cole slaw would go much better than the oil based slaw. The sandwiches were big & plentiful plus you get fries or homemade chips. We opted for the chips which were fabulous. Used to come here, and quit, because service got a little...negligent. Started to come again, after about a two year hiatus. Very pleased with my past 3 recent visits. Service is better, and food is still great. Sonny's has some of the best appetizers around. I truly recommend trying their fried cheese, pretzel, and fried pickles. The fried zucchini is good, but you have to like paper thin-sliced, flour covered zucchini. Its good, but I know that "type" is not for everyone. went there when it was pretty dead between dinner and their night crowd. over heard the bar tender telling a gentleman how long until your party gets here we are keeping extra staff on for the large party. okay so we order our food pizza and pasta. an 40 min later the pizza shows up in that whole time we get one drink refill because they never checked on us my pasta never shows up so we ask her to take it off the check her response do you want me to box it up so you can take it home when they are done making it so they had not even finished making it yet. two other tables who had come in after us had gotten their food. the large party had not shown yet or I could be a lot more understanding but over stuffed not busy and not even an apology for forgetting my food. we have eaten there a few times and the food is usually pretty good, the service is too. of course we still left a tip because if the cooks forgot to make my dish not the waitress fault but one refill in an hour with a bunch of extra staff standing around waiting and not getting my food was a little much they usually do better. read more

I thought last summer I would not come back bc of the mediocre food and honestly filthy outdoor deck. Shoes stick to a surface caked with dirt and food. This place needs power washed! Very large menu with a lot of variety. Seafood always seems fresh and food seems to be made to order. Last time we visited I got a salad with salmon and my fish was very undercooked, however, otherwise we have never been disappointed. Service is always fast and friendly and they also have a great bar selection. Outdoor patio is great especially in the summer. Typically restaurants will give you utensils for the food, or have the courtesy of asking if you want some as well as condiments. Since I wasn't asked I stupidly assumed there was some in there. Nope! Fries weren't salted, potatoes were dry and the "best crab cake on the East Coast " wasn't great. I just wanted to try one..it was $12.95 and it was about 2.5" big. Wtf is that?! They had a well-stocked bar, several beer selections and decent wine by the glass. The calamari appetizer was crispy -- large enough for the whole table of 8. (It was a lot wasted on two -- wish the waitress had mentioned that.) The crab cake, which Sonny's is known for, was served on a fresh lettuce salad; it was light, flavorful and a nice touch after a long day of car travel. I had dinner and a couple of beers here with a friend and our total came out to $144.00 with tip for two people. The food was not good, especially for the price. The spinach artichoke dip was... strange. Usually spinach dip has cream cheese in it but this looked like it was maybe some condensed soup with some spinach flakes tossed it. It wouldn't even stay on the chips. I ordered the chili mac for my meal. I expected this to be macaroni and cheese with chili on it, because what else does "Mac" mean other than macaroni? Well. I got some plain old spaghetti with a lob of chili on top. Just straight up boiled spaghetti and a scoop of chili on top for $14. The only decent part of our meals was the garlic bread. I'm giving two stars instead of one because the server was very sweet and attentive and it's not her fault that food sucks so bad. read more
