If you are looking for a warm and welcoming place for delicious cocktails and dinner in a rustic Vermont setting, this is the place. Sitting in the tavern, we had some of the best cosmopolitans I've ever had. During our three different times having dinner there each meal was yummy, chosen from a lot of great options. This last visit we indulged in a bunch of dessert choices; all good but the cheesecake and the peanut butter and chocolate desserts were out of this world! Bruce and Emily and the staff, plus their three beautiful girls, make this a great experience. It is a sweet combination of a step back in time in a relaxing setting with more current cuisine options. We can't wait for the patio to open. read more

The Landgrove inn is a Vermont institution with excellent food and cozy rooms . There is a full bar and a cozy lounge with kits of books on art . Tom, the innkeeper and everyone else I encounter there( Dorothy , Lisa , Paige , Chris etc etc ) , were gracious and hospitable . The art collection is stellar and the art workshop I attended was amazing . The building is older and has different levels and steep stairways , nonetheless it won me over with its history and charm. The Landgrove Inn is such a beautiful place to stay. Tom is such a kind, warm host. The Inn has multiple art work shops and the halls are adorned with beautiful art. Ask Tom about your favorite and he will tell you all about the artist. I enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner and the new chef put out a delicious spread. The wait staff are just as warm and inviting as the beautiful fireplace with its roaring fire. I learned the hard way to make reservations if your not staying at the Inn. It's an interesting old building in a very scenic area, but customer service is hugely lacking at the Landgrove Inn. OK, there was one older gentleman, Carl, who was really nice and especially helpful; but the rest of the staff seemed distant and cold. The Innkeeper himself, Tom, was a complete douche. He spent much of our first evening browbeating our group while we were gathered socializing in the lounge. He is a distant, cold, very nearly rude man who won't even say hello in passing. You'd think he'd have been pleased to have his outdated inn completely filled during an off season weekend by this single large group, but I guess not. If anything, the Landgrove Inn was annoyed by our presence. The single least attractive detail about the inn itself was the odor of methane (septic gas) in several locations of different hallways. Why that wasn't being dealt with, I have no idea. Afterall, it's not merely a nuisance to guests, it's actually quite dangerous. There were a lot of ill-fitting doors as well, but I suppose that must be considered part of the place's charm. But I have to tell you, the charm wore off pretty quickly. Nothing was horrible (other than the odor), but there seemed to be something wrong with everything there. Had I not been there with for a wedding with a large gathering of old friends, I would have left after the first night. A few smiles and a modicum of acceptable customer service would have allowed me to look past some of the other issues, but damn, the majority of the staff is unfriendly and, I assume, they learned to be that way from the owner. If forced to describe my weekend stay in a single word, it would be "uncomfortable." read more

The Landgrove Inn is truly a classic. It offers a warm, cozy atmosphere as well as excellent meals. After a day or two you'll realize that the innkeepers, Tom and Maureen, and their staff do everything they can to make feel like you are with friends. In their case, friends who can prepare incredible dinners and any all most any kind of breakfast you want before you head out into the Vermont winter. The Inn is on a country road but gives skiers good access to Okemo, Stratton and other ski areas. Cross country skiers can just step outdoors and use the Inn's own trails. In the evening you come back to a wood fire in the lounge. The rates for room, breakfast and dinner are quite reasonable. The rooms vary greatly from having a private Jacuzzi to sharing a bathroom. The rates are so reasonable that you should go for the best available. read more

I've been coming here for over twenty years. This is my favorite place to stay in Vermont. The inn is beautiful and rustic, and the hospitality makes you feel like you're visiting old friends. If you dine at the bed & breakfast's restaurant, expect delicious and freshly prepared fare. The other night, I enjoyed salmon and wild rice that was divine. Their breakfasts are the perfect way to start the day and the cheery demeanor of their housekeeper is lovely! I consider the common room to be the heart of the inn. It's so cozy! In this rustic and charming room, you will find a bar, a Foosball table, a wood-burning stove, TV, and more. It's the ideal place to lose yourself in a book, have a rousing Foosball game, enjoy a drink, or play board games with friends. There's something about sitting in front of a fire in the common room as the nippy Vermont winds blow on a foggy, cold night that nourishes the soul. I could spend half my vacation in that room! Additionally, there are some wonderful places to visit that are close by, like the Vermont Country Store, as well as shop, farms, historical sites and art galleries. You'll never get bored. If you plan on visiting Vermont, be smart: book a room in advance (they fill up) at the Land Grove Inn. read more

Summary: Beautiful landscape and incredibly insanely rude staff (with the exception of a few). Those few nice staff were amazing. But frankly the good ones treated people how I always treat people while working weddings and restaurant events, so Landgrove Inn folks, IT IS POSSIBLE! (Btw I am not always happy at work either, but I certainly do my best to conceal that fact from guests, it's called being in the hospitality business.) I do not expect that a stressful large party event would make staff smile all the time or anything, but civil behavior should be expected. In summary I would absolutely never stay here again. I see several of the guests from the wedding I attended had similar experiences. Let me add the weight of my review to theirs: First off, let's cover the things for which the Landgrove Inn does NOT get credit for. The setting is beautiful; the scenery and surrounding countryside are shining examples of why I love Vermont. The property is old, and quaint, and charming. And, given the location, it's no fault of the Inn's that there is no cell reception. The staff, though? I have ten years of experience in the hotel business, and I've been traveling the U.S and internationally for years. I have never met a more surly, less hospitable innkeeper than Tom. He was, in a word, rude. I was at the Landgrove Inn for a wedding; this means that the property was 100% booked by one group, and in addition to full occupancy the Landgrove Inn took in food/beverage/function space revenue for both the rehearsal dinner AND the reception; an occasion for an innkeeper to be happy and solicitous, one would think. Not Tom. Were we rowdy? Was there drinking? It was a wedding! But I've been to dozens of weddings, and on the whole this one was very well behaved. No parties in rooms, no foolish stunts. Just dancing, drinking, music, laughter, and a late night by the bonfire. I saw nothing that I could imagine would upset an innkeeper who was willing to book weddings in the first place. So, why so unpleasant? It's a mystery. Most of his staff seemed to follow suit; they were at best curt, and in many cases surprisingly blunt or rude. The absence of 'please' and 'thank you' from the inn staff was obvious. I will call out only one exception: Carl. Carl worked the wedding reception to the very end, and was up and serving at breakfast the next morning; the whole time he was pleasant and helpful. He should give lessons to his colleagues. The room: it's an old building with old furniture and fixtures. No problems there; it's what you expect. But, there were some cleanliness problems. There was mildew and cobwebs on corners of the bathroom ceiling, an ugly amount of dust on the exhaust fan, and the water pressure/temperature in the shower was extremely variable; fine one minute, a bare trickle the next (we had two plumbers in our party for the weekend, and they attribute this to the piping not being done correctly to deal with variable demand). Both of the bath towels had some stains on them; I'm sure not a health hazard, but certainly not pleasant. The inn itself: sometimes age camouflages lack of maintenance. I won't call out many specifics in the common areas, except for the smell. A couple of the corridors in the inn had a terrible smell, something like an open drain line or a bad grease trap in a kitchen. Very unpleasant. And the pool? There is no pool. It's an ex-pool slowly evolving into a frog pond. The pool liner is torn and drooping into the water; we counted several live newts in the pool. What did this experience cost me? $165 a night. Plus a 10% 'service' charge (hah). Plus 9% VT tax. Plus who knows how much spent by my friends on their wedding. Worth every penny t read more

We enjoyed dinner last weekend at the Landgrove Inn while staying with friends nearby. The owner Tom welcomed us warmly and made sure we were served drinks promptly. It was a Sunday night and they were serving a special $35 menu with 5 or 6 entree options (duck, prime rib, halibut, chicken and crab cakes I think!) and either a salad or soup. Unfortunately, they were out of the prime rib (it was after 8 pm) which looked delicious. I had the Chicken Vermonter and my husband had the halibut and we both thought our dinners were delicious. The salad and and entree portions were generous. Dinner was served with a starch and veggie. Wine list is a bit limited but adequate. In an area with few dining choices, we're glad that the Landgrove Inn serves up solid food at a reasonable price! read more

Great place to stay if you want a rustic Vermont inn. Main part of property is a house and barn from the early 1800s. Located in beautiful valley within the Green Mountain National Forest. Roads are not paved. Landgrove has a population of 120. Inn has a great restaurant and the owners are always very friendly and helpful. I was recently here for a long weekend celebrating a friend's birthday. My friend's family has been returning to this inn for years, and I can see why. The location was comfortable with the coziest common room featuring a wood-burning stove, a bar, and fuzball. There was a comfy couch and a bunch of chairs to curl up and read a book or play a board game. We ate breakfast each morning at the inn, which was simple but filling. Dinner the one evening we ate there was really tasty. They had an awesome squash and apple bisque. Tom the innkeeper was friendly and engaged, and he gave a great recommendation for another restaurant in the area when we wanted to venture out for the evening. The inn's location was great. It was set back on a dirt road enough so that we could enjoy a country stroll on the dirt road, but was also close enough to attractions such as the Vermont Country Store. Tom was especially helpful when a member of our party's eye swelled in some kind of allergic reaction while we were out. He made calls to several clinics to determine which ones were open and which had the shortest wait. He was sure to ask later that evening and the following day how our friend was doing. I came across the Landgrove Inn while staying next door. What a wonderful home away from home! Beautiful surroundings, an old and charming building, and possibly the most comfortable lounge I've visited in a long time. The proximity made it a great choice for dinner one night, and it was lovely. Our group had duck, pork chops and steak, soup and salad, and a fantastic blueberry crumble. Maureen and Tom, the innkeepers, could not have been more lovely and hospitable, and never gave us any grief for taking advantage of their free wi-fi. My husband and I called last minute on a busy holiday week and they were able to seat us in their charming authentic VT dining room. Service was earnest and generous. The menu included many specials including a delicious pork shank and perfectly cooked flat iron steak served with wonderfully lumpy mashed potatoes that shouted the real deal. The homemade desserts were a combination of classics such as peach cobbler and a more ambitious meringue and fruit. All were reasons for a return visit on their own. And the bar makes a fine Manhattan to top it all off. read more

I have been going to the Landgrove Inn for nearly thirty years. Our middle daughter wanted her wedding in Landgrove because she has spent summers in Vermont with her grandparents and Aunts and Uncles. Her dream of a Vermont wedding was realized the last weekend of July. The Landgrove Inn was selected for the wedding venue . The wedding was the most beautiful wedding I have ever attended. Tom the owner of the Inn was more then patient with eight months of planning. Every detail was understood and carried out. The food was the best - so many guests commented on how wonderful the food was. I enjoyed my meal even with all the festivities around me because it was so delicious - this isn't something I have found at all weddings. Tom and Maureen helped make every detail stress free and easy to accomplish. Thank you for making a destination wedding possible. The guests had a wonderful, memorable time. The bride and groom were so happy and said everything was way beyond their expectations - thank you to the Landgrove Inn and their staff who made the evening so beautiful. We had our 50th Wedding Anniversary Party here. Everyone was delighted & enjoyed themselves. The food was great & plentiful . the staff was very gracious the atmosphere was wonderful ,it felt like having a party at home. But without all the work. The grandchildren enjoyed the pond with fishing, and a boat ride. & later with fresh home cookies around a bonfire. While the adults who came early & were staying over , sat around the pool area and had drinks from the " honor" bar .What more could you ask from a place, who catered to all ages so nicely !! My husband and I refer to the Landgrove Inn as our "home away from home". I am so shocked by the comment about the owner. " I have never met a more surly, less hospitable innkeeper than Tom. He was, in a word, rude " The reason that we keep returning to the Landgrove is because Tom and Maureen and their entire staff have always made us feel like family. We get hugs from everyone upon arrival. At dinner Tom circulates the room and visits with each and every table as if the people are guests in his home. The waitstaff is amazing. They have always bent over backwards to accommodate our every need and desire. The chef is without a doubt one of 4 star quality. I always wonder what will be on the menu when we are driving to the inn. Tom puts on his chef's hat and cooks up a mean breakfast.
