I have been coming to Lake Vermilion for over 30 years and have been to the Landing many times. I never expect anything super fancy but still expect food to come within a reasonable time. I am shocked by how horrible this experience has been. It has been almost 2 hours and we do not have our food. We asked to talk to an owner and his explanation was that they are very busy with "many reservations." The place is practically empty and he did not apologize for the inferior service. Our waiter Kendall was very nice and apologized many times for the slow service. He was awesome! read more

Disappointed. The new owners do not seem like they know what they are doing. Learning on the job is no longer an option in today's economy. Basic training in restaurant operations is required. Also, they had free WI-FI Memorial Weekend 2014 and now they don't want to give out the password. ??? Plus 4G is too weak in the bar area to use. I hope they are not blocking access?? The menu looked good, and the food is decent, but the service during our visit was very slow. Entrées took 45 minutes for lunch with a medium crowd, and our server forgot two of the six we ordered, so we had to wait another twenty minutes for those. What should have been a 30- to 40-minute lunch took an hour and a half. The Landing isn't cheap either. Lunch for four adults and two kids (with a couple of drinks) came to $180 with tax and tip. read more

We really, really wanted to love this place! Our last night of our week long cabin rental nearby. We had the majority of our kitchen packed up and decided to hit a local spot for a classic Friday night fish fry. Set the scenario, Covid 19 Standards: We walk in the front door with our masks on. Hi. We're new here. Clearly the locals enter from the back off the docks. My 5 year old daughter stands awkwardly at the front door bar area where the bartender is busy serving several others. He lifts his head when I asked if we should just seat ourselves. I hear a snort from behind his mask asking if we have a reservation. I replied, no reservation but we're flexible. Sit inside or outside. In the bar area (where there was plenty of room) whatever is easiest my friend. He grunts and shakes his head for us to follow another server to a table. My family of 4 offers wides smiles and pleading glances. We are hungry and very thirsty. I hear another family of 4 behind us fidgeting and mumbling and saying something about it's been an hour since they had ordered. Benefit of doubt: our server comes from the bar area to get drinks ordered. (2) lemonadeS (1) sprite (1) Diet Coke. The sprite is flat. Flat. No carbonation what so ever. Okay no sweat. 20 minutes goes by. We ordered our meal and a replacement lemonade for the flat sprite. Meanwhile, the sweet gentleman that appears to be the manager? Owner? Was casually walking around making small talk with guests and picking up a plate here or there. He had a contagious smile. Seems very nice.... just that he never addressed our table or offered refills of any kind when we were obviously waiting for extended periods. The walleye dinners that were offered as specials (fried, blackened or broiled) you had one choice. FRIED. And let me tell ya..... it was FRIED to death. Over cooked. Charred on the ends. Greasy, greasy, greasy! My 5 year old ordered a pub pretzel that came out burnt to a crisp. Just mehhhhhhhhh! I forgot to mention that this process took 1 hour and 50 minutes. 2 walleye dinnerS FRIED to shit, one cheeseburger as one pub pretzel. Hummppfff. We really did want to love this place. Meh. We drove up on our boat looking for a place to eat. It wasn't bad. In fact the walleye cakes were really good. But the meal was so so. And it was hella expensive. You could tell it was trying to be a fancy upscale resteraunt and was just not succeeding. They do have corn hole outside though, so that was cool. And outside seating so you can bring your dog and go in your suit and no one would care. In summation: fine. Wouldn't choose to go there, but I would if there were no other places available. read more

Burgers were okay. No lettuce, no tomatoes. Fries were yummy. Sodas, teas not free refills! 3% charge for credit card payments.

Waited over an hour for our food on a Tuesday night at 7:00. Food arrived cold, and our waffle fries were the remnants from the bottom of the bag that looked nothing like waffle fries. My son's patty melt was pink in the middle at best. I give our server credit for taking our drinks off the bill and 20% as well as he admitted it was a mess. I wish it were better as we like to support local businesses when we travel. read more

Was told the Custom pizza we phone ordered was burned up and unservable/inedible. Sorry. Told us we could get another made but would have to wait for it all over again. We did not want to wait! We ordered it to eat when it was supposed to be ready! A patty melt sandwich was also ordered along with the pizza. That sandwich was ready on time but on taking it back to cabin to eat, lost my appetite. The bread was over cooked (burnt) and the only thing that was decent were the fries. I did get a complimentary cup of coffee. Overall a Disappointing experience. We thought we'd give our business to local community restaurant, unfortunately it failed our expectations. They treated us so nicely here! I was expecting a dive bar but it's a very lovely restaurant/bar with amazing lake views. Great place to watch a game with friends, but there were lots of families there having lunch too. We were immediately made to feel welcome, and stayed much longer than anticipated just because everyone was so nice. read more

I'm not even sure the Landing deserves two stars. This place has the potential to be great, but as it stands it's meh. The service was incredibly slow. The server didn't know the difference between a wheat beer and an IPA. The prices are ridiculously high, i.e $13 for a plate of wings and an extra $3 if you want celery and ranch to go with, for a total of $16 and change. Honestly the wings weren't worth it, chicken nuggets from a fast food joint would have been better. This is also the first place I've ever been charged for celery and ranch. The drinks were also over priced. I will gladly row my boat to another spot next time around. read more

Extremely poor service. Would not recommend. Had to wait over 40 minutes for a water refill when asking for it multiple times. Forgot some food orders, and when they brought it out to us later on, they brought out the wrong orders. ALSO don't get the drink special with the souvenir cups because you don't get to keep them. You are required to pay for them, which they didn't tell us until we started leaving. They advertised them as if they were included with the drink. Servers directed us to bartenders, bartenders directed us to servers. There was no order in this place and no management. read more

First, I've been spending my Summers on Lake Vermilion for more than 40 years. I've seen the restaurant and resorts sell many times. Now, I'm going to do reviews based upon the following criteria. - service - environment - food quality - price The service we received was very poor. The server was rude, unorganized and slow, she set our utensils on the table with the same hands that where just in a bucket of dirty water. The environment is dirty, I walked into the restroom and saw a bucket of ice under the urinal, doors, window dirty, floor in dining room dirty very unorganized, the place is definitely a "bar" now! I ordered the Walleye, it seemed processed, lots of breading and seemed under cooked. I ordered a rum and Coke. It was terrible, the previous owners had good quality rum(Bacardi), I asked the server what I was drinking and she said, "I don't know"! I feel the prices are extremely overpriced based upon the quality, poor environment and lousy service. The lake doesn't have any options other than bars! Also, refills are not free and what about charging for using a credit card? Seems for some reason they want a "cash only payment"? The previous owner had a great operation, I don't give this owner until the end of the Summer! read more

My wife and I bought a cabin in the area last February and we have eaten at The Landing about 20 times in the past 4 months. Ambiance is great with a north woods feel and stunning view of one of the most beautiful lakes in MN. It's easy to access The Landing by car, boat, or snowmobile, depending on season. Food quality has been consistently good. The menu is upscale for a north woods bar and grill but you can also get excellent burgers and pizza. The fries are the best ever! Some of our favorites are the walleye cakes, walleye deviled eggs, Guiness poutine and duck wings for appetizers. Can't go wrong with the all you can eat walleye special in which you can choose your preparation (fried, broiled or blackened). Prime rib special is excellent. My personal favorite is the walleye tacos, each of which has a small but full filet of walleye. The weekend specials always have something new and interesting. Huge wine list and beer selection for this part of the world. We have had nothing but excellent and friendly service but we have been there mainly on off-peak nights. Like any establishment, service is faster and better when the place is not crowded. The challenge in this neck of the woods is staffing for hugely different crowds. On a Thursday night in the winter there may be 10 people in the place then on a perfect Saturday for snowmobiling there may be 100 people. The owners do their best to provide good service. We feel fortunate to have such a nice establishment here in the remote north woods. read more

We live on the lake, far from the landing. We enjoy the ride and don't expect gourmet food. However, the food is not even mediocre and the service is atrocious. We waited almost an hour and a half to get our food after we ordered. Everyone on the deck with us was wondering if the cook left or there was a problem with the stove. The only positive was the live music. I'm very sad because there are so few places on the lake to go by boat, especially now that the Bayview closed. Please somebody with restaurant experience buy the Bayview, we desperately need it. read more

Terrible service and experience. Went on Saturday in February via snowmobile with 15 friends. Upon entering, we were lectured on where we can and can-not place our helmets and jackets. Most places have accommodations for such things. It took 20 minutes to get beers. If they even had the beer you wanted. It seems that they specialize in craft beers. If you want a Grain Belt, go somewhere else. As we were leaving, we observed employees rudely telling another group to "get out" because they were too busy. The steps leading out of the restaurant were totally covered in ice, and a danger to anyone who used them. We even saw an elderly gentleman fall at the front door due to the ice on the walk. I am a native Iron Ranger, and will never darken the doors of this place again. read more

Ok so I have been coming up here all my life every summer so I have seen this place change many times. First off thank god that the menu and owners have changed! This is back to regular American bar food!!! No extreme wine menu etc! The one thing this place could use is better staffing. The servers do not come around and check on you if you need anything as much as they should. They like to congregate by the bar and ordering station to talk when you are clearly waiting for another drink etc. I wish they had a better bar tender who could hold a small conversation understand what you're asking about the beers etc on tap. Otherwise happy to see regular menu again and change of owners. read more

Worst service I have ever received. Do not eat here! Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone!!!We didn't get food that was ordered after the rest of the table was done for 20 minutes, screwed up our orders and couldn't even get water after asking over and over for an hour of asking multiple times, waiters could get drinks... non alcoholic one (water, pop, etc bullshit).. Couldn't get refills on our coke from waiter when we asked bartender/owner because wait staff told us he couldn't get it he told us that is what your waiter is for and turned his back to us and walked away. No help just garbage all the way around It took so long to get liquids one of our members had to go to the bathroom to get something to drink out of sink! Bullshit!!! When we made it noticeable to staff they just laughed and walked away. The water was finally brought us as we were leaving 25 minutes later !!! This is not how you run a restaurant! I won't even get started on the prices! Complained to staff and they did nothing for the horrible service and wrong orders and long wait on missed items. Just garbage! Run ! A $400 bill for 9 guys for three pizzas (1 missed and wrong once brought to table) and shrimp plus some drinks! Outrageous with everything once you think about it. read more

The food is quality food, not just frozen food from Sisco that's then deep fried, like other local establishments. The service is friendly and accommodating. Went to this place as it was in the area and I needed a place to eat with my friends. First off, it took a long time to be waited on and to get drinks. Right there I wasn't impressed. Then, we ordered apps and our dinner and about 20 minutes went by and our apps hadn't come yet. We asked the server and they went to go check on it, and then the apps and food came out at the same time. The manager (I think his name was Tony) came over and didn't even apologize, and when one of my buds complained the manager basically snapped at him. Tony was a real dick about it and didn't offer to comp the apps or offer anything for the fact that we had to wait. He seemed really self-centered and was an ass to my friends and I. We definitely aren't going back to a place, especially in a small town where they should welcome touristy business of any kind, and where the owner is a prick and doesn't put the customer first. Overall, the food was just ok anyway, so it makes the decision to not go back a lot easier. Some people just shouldn't be managers, and had this guy treated us better we might have left a tip. The food and service are quite good, and the wine list is much better than most other places in this part of Minnesota.
