What a cute fun place! We met friends there on a Saturday night & had a nice time. Guys ordered tenderloins & they were terrific! I'll put them up in my top 3 or 4! They came with fries which were tasty. The girls got fish tacos & they were plain. We asked for salsa & tartar & they said they were out of the usual wasabi that comes with them. Great place not too far from home..we'd been here a time or two before, but it'd been a while. We stopped by just after the evening rush and got seated in a very short time. The decor consists of signs from past local businesses all over the walls and ceiling...the Coast-To-Coast sign has a special connection for me as my Grandmother worked there when I was a kid. We started off with the Loaded Tater Tots that were pretty good but could have been really good had the cheese been melted and the bacon chopped up into smaller pieces...the Tots themselves were done very well. The star of the dinner was the awesome Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. A crispy yet lightly breaded tenderloin cooked perfectly...it's disappointing to get overcooked tenderloins as they become very tough...these folks got the timing down! Add on any of the pickles, onions,lettuce, and tomato served alongside to your taste and you've got a great sandwich! We'll definitely be back again! read more

The food was good overall. Excellent burgers and I recommend avoiding the fish. The service, however, was not good. Our server took a long time to come over and wad inattentive overall. We were at the restaurant at 5:15 and left at 6:45. I think part of the problem is that many in town have figured out the online orders are prioritized over people actual at the restaurant. read more

The service was good, we were greeted as we came in, clean interesting decor, but that was the good. The food was subpar to couldn't eat. We ordered the grilled tenderloin ( supposedly award winning) and the French Dip. The tenderloin was seasoned with a spice that took away the flavor of the meat. It was pounded so much the meat crumbled on the plate. It was tender however. The French Dip was another story. The meat was tough, gristly, and had an odd flavor. The dipping broth was inedible. It was obviously old and both the sandwich and the broth were barely warm. The French fries were also just warm, but on a good note the coleslaw was good. When the waitress came to our table I explained about the French Dip and she asked me if I wanted the cook to make me ia new one. No! I couldn't eat the first one . No $ was taken off our bill. We were traveling through and wanted a fun and relaxed pace for good food - and that's just what we got. Place was busy, so we took a seat at the bar. Server approached us after just a few minutes and took our drink and food order. Meals arrived pretty quickly. Presentation was nice. Food quality was very good. We had the Landmark sandwich and a burger. Everything was very good, even the fries were great. Check came quickly. Would recommend this relaxed and cute place with good food and service. read more

Food was pretty good, but the service was AWFUL. Our waitress was more interested in her phone than making sure our table was okay. None of us got refills the whole time we were there because we saw our waitress a total of three times. When she took our orders (food and drink) and when she brought our food and drinks. "What do you want to drink?" "What do you want to eat?" "Here's your food" "here's your check" I watched our food sit in the window for some time while who I assume was the owner was trying to get our servers attention to bring it to us. Update: My last order was much better. Enough meat on the sandwich and taste was good! Looking forward to ordering again. I've ordered the same thing for years now. Unfortunately quality and consistency has gone down. Portion size started to vary greatly and taste is hit or miss. A "bistro" in small town Iowa sounds ironic. I actually went here twice in one day since I was a bit captive in town for the day. I'd say breakfast, which is only served on weekends, was probably average, a 3. The breakfast potatoes were deep fried diced potatoes. I'd rather have good ole hash browns cooked on a flattop. For lunch I tried the fried tenderloin - they did this Iowa icon good. The meat was a bit thicker than usual, so could actually taste the pork. The breading was crunchy and without a hint of greasy flavor. They did it right. Too often tenderloins are too thin and too greasy. I'd recommend for sure. Good upscale decor with local flare, and they have alcohol. read more

My wife and I stopped by after a soccer game for our youngest child. My wife got a chicken sandwich and I got a specialty burger that had an egg and peanut butter. Both were very good. What a great place! We're not familiar with the area but found this gem on Yelp and were not disappointed. I had the Br-inner Burger and my husband had the Reuben we each had a side of the half naked cheese curds. Our friends also had a Reuben and the Landmark Special a slice of jalapeño cornbread with steak and fried onions.the service was excellent. Very pleasant atmosphere. There is some outdoor seating which we would've loved had it been a warm evening. We all agreed the only bad thing about this restaurant is that it's not closer to our town 2 hours away! Wish I could have tried the food. Unfortunately we waited over 10 minutes for a drink and menu then over an hour before we asked if our food was coming- then the waitress told us our food hadn't even been started yet because they have a big party to serve....I've worked in food service before, there is no excuse for a customer to wait over and HOUR PLUS for their meal to even be started. The kitchen needs to get it together and the wait staff could be a little friendlier in the future. Needless to say, we left and won't be back. I think an honest review would be a 3.5 but they got bonus points for effort, atmosphere and presentation. I think the longer they are open, the better the food will become so this will not be the last time we go. Like I said the presentation raised the rating but the food is lacking the extra something. It felt like it was struggling to meet the presentations expectations. Starting with the soup, tonight's soup was French onion. Let me preface this by saying that I love soup. No matter the time of year, I will always order soup. Out of all possible soup combinations, my absolute favorite is French Onion. Of course I ordered a bowl, one because it's my favorite soup and second because I was curious as to how they would achieve the melty cheese crust on top. Well it was achieved by using crutons and shredded cheese. Ok not a problem. However the soup was lacking seasoning, the onions were not cooked long enough and the broth was missing the rich buttery type flavor that most French Onion soups have. This soup also contained chunks of steak and mushrooms. Seasoned in a different manner, the soup could have easily been mistaken for steak soup. Out of our entire meal, the fries were the best. All of the food seemed to be under seasoned and lacking a "signature" taste that would make someone want to return in the immediate future. I am really looking forward to seeing what they do with the farm to table concept this summer. So tonight I tried to take my fiance on a date. We both decided that we wanted to try the landmark and we both had high hopes that there was finally another option for somewhere nearby to eat. The atmosphere was decent. We both ordered the special which was supposed to be the ribeye steak, baked potato, a roll, and salad. We both ordered our steaks cooked medium. We got our salads about two minutes before getting our steaks. The steaks were both cooked well done, no pink in the center at all. They said they were having trouble cooking a baked potato so we got fries along with it while we waited for a baked potato. We both sent our steaks back and the manager took our plates and my salad that I wasn't even done eating. When we got our plates back with steaks once again they were both so raw I'm pretty sure that they were still mooing. On top of that there was still no baked potato and this time we didn't even get our roll that the manager took away with our plates the first time. I showed our server our steaks and asked her if she would eat them, thinking maybe I was just having to high of expectations bit she replied with " no that's gross, I'm sorry." Needless to say we did not try for a third time and left. After leaving the owner was contacted and her reply was that she was sorry we had a bad experience. Nothing about how she could make it up our anything to try and save her small business from losing a customer. I just don't understand how these small businesses ever can expect to make it when they are getting their customers from such a small demographic you need to make sure you do whatever you can to keep them happy.
