This review is solely for their movie night. While there can sometimes be a line outside the gates, if you get there about an hour before the movie starts you are in the clear. The screen is a decent size but I wouldn't sit farther than the swings, especially because you are close to the music and it can clash with the sound of the movie. Also, I highly recommend brining a blanket and your own food. It just makes the experience that much more enjoyable. They sell beer but that's about it. The Lawn on D movie night is a great idea for the city and amazing way to spend your night. Its free fun for all ages. read more

What a cool area and concept. Just stopped by the Friday May 15 briefly after a house party across the street, but had a fun time. Glowing swings (but lines for those were getting long - more of a photo opp), and live music w/ dance floor, which was fun. There was even an outside bar, but lines for that were pretty long too. After standing in line for a beer for 35 minutes I was told I was only allowed to buy one beer at a time. So I bought the one beer for my girlfriend. While sitting on the lawn we saw people walking away with 3-4 beers at a time. I will fight tooth and nail not to come back to this place. read more

This is a fun spot to go hang out. I've been during both the summer and winter. In the summer, they had live music, swings, ping-pong tables, a large Jenga set, and corn hole. In the winter, they had a large ice maze. It's a fun place to go when you just want to be outdoors in the city. read more

My friends and I love it here! It's always pretty crowded, but not unbearable. The bartenders get to you quickly and are very personable. Visiting Boston for a trip and I can't say enough about this space. I wish it was here when I lived in Boston. A smart way to develop the seaport area the place is great for families, great for a group of friends, and really a perfect way to spend an afternoon. Public playground for adults. Located across the Fort Point bridge on D Street, there was some street parking and we were lucky enough to snag a spot. Many folks opted for the Uber alternative. The space was packed and there were a few security guards hovering by the door to make sure you didn't bring outside alcoholic beverages. The enclosed space consists of an area with a few ping pong tables, a large tent for food and drinks and picnic seating, the swing exhibit, and a grassy area for corn hole, bocce ball, Jenga, etc. Games were first come first served and I found it rather difficult to keep track of how many people were ahead of you. It was overcrowded, the swings were uncomfortable, some were broken, there were security guards going around yelling at couples trying to swing on the larger swings. The rest of the park was under lit so the activities were undoable and it was just sketchy overall. Just make sure you bring lots of cash to avoid the ATM line (cash bar only but some food trucks accept credit/debit). This is one of the best venues in the city. Plenty of well kept greenery to lay on, a beer garden and concession stand serving up hot dogs and burgers, food trucks during the day, plenty of games such as ping pong, cornhole, bocce, human size Jenga, and the well know sculptural swings that glow as the sun sets, this is an urban oasis for adults and families. This place is really cute for photos on instagram as many of you probably know. There's lawn games like throwing a bean bag in the hole or ping pong. There's different events they hold that you can find on their website, the day I went a band was playing as you can chill on the lawn play games and go on the swings. It's a really nice place to just hang out. They also have alcohol and food there like burgers cotton candy pretzels and stuff like that. Definitely a nice spot to hang out in the summer. read more

Overall, I think this place is pretty cool. And I hope to go back at some point, but not when it's not unexpectedly oppressively hot or Labor Day weekend. The good: -lawn games... giant Jenga, Bocce, Corn Hole, Ping Pong -beer/food availability -use of the convention center restrooms (even if you don't have to "go", worth a visit to get a break from the heat on a hot day) The meh: -I wish there were more lawn games. Two corn hole sets seems weak, as does 2 Bocce ball games (if they had flipped these the long way, they could have fit at least one more AND it would be a better area to play in.) Other reviewers mentioned bringing your own lawn games, and I suppose if you live in the area that could work, but for those of us schlepping out from the 'burbs on the T, it's no bueno to bring our own. -some more seating (outside of the tent area) would be great -some more shade (outside of the tent area... there was a DJ there on our visit, and while I thought that was great, it was too loud to sit under the tent and chat) -the food options when there aren't trucks; I would have been happy with a few more light snack options... seems like burgers/dogs and other like grille items were all that was available. I get that space is limited, but I think they could offer a few more options. Of no fault of the establishment, I was a little frustrated that some patrons seemed to not be mindful of others also wanting to utilize the space. I love children and think they are just as welcome as I am, but letting your toddler run amuck in the Bocce "court" (I keep wanting to call them courts for lack of a better word/I'm not versed in Bocce terms other than knowing the premise of the game) and pick up, and drop the Bocce balls repeatedly for 25 minutes while others are lingering hoping to snag up a game to play, is kind of annoying. As is pulling together 4 lawn chairs for 2 people and throwing your stuff/feet on the 2 without bodies in them. It was a busy day and I was just surprised how some people didn't seem to care that this is a shared space. Anyway, definitely worth a return visit and I bet it's pretty cool at night so I'll likely make that my next time to try it out again. read more

Lawn on D taps into everyone's inner child. Part art space, part playground, it's an unique venue in the city. Since the time it opened it seems to grow in popularity. There's games to play like ping pong, cornhole and bocce. If you just want to relax there's cool lawn furniture to lounge in or just sit on the lush green grass. A large food and beer tent is located at one end along with food trucks parked nearby. To make the space even more appealing, temporary art installations are on display on a regular basis and events are held almost every weekend. Of course the big slight against Lawn on D is the location. Even though it is somewhat out of the way in the South Boston waterfront, it's an easy 15-20 minute walk from South Station. Just be prepared to huddle around the bar since there is no order to this at all & will take a while & may not be worth it. Love this place! My go to for a chill night in Boston. There are a bunch of light up swings (great for photos), games, ping pong etc. they sometimes have more temporary setups and will have special nights. The food trucks set up there are also always very good. I would just say my one complaint is that I often to have to wait for a lot of the games / swings... But be patient and a little aggressive and you'll be fine. The place is never overcrowded which is a huge plus so you won't have to wait too long. People also are generally pretty conscious of not hogging anything. Would also recommend the food trucks (if they are there) over the food served in the main tent! read more

The music is loud and the sound quality is terrible...along w the loop of song selections. The music played by the bar makes this experience unpleasant. (I know this is subjective but everyone around me is complaining about it) The ambience is fine but would be better if the music was better! I'm here now and wish they would turn it down...a little. This is a fun playground. I went for a concert and even though the weather was bad, still had a great time. The glowing swings are fun, but popular. Even on a rainy night people were waiting a little bit for them. There were some lawn games too and food trucks. Nice change of scenery from the typical boston. It was something new to do during the warm weather. Not too far from the T. First time at lawn on D yesterday and it was a lot of fun. No cover and the Narraganset shandy's were $5. The staff was friendly and it wasn't super crowded last night. There are games (jenga, cornhole and tic-tac toe) on the lawn with a bunch of swings. I like how you can use the convention center bathrooms instead of a porta potty. Nice that they serve food and have food truck(s) there. I definitely want to come back! read more

Very easy to find. It was Labor Day, though we found a spot for parking right by on D street. They have some places on deck chairs to sit on the lawn area, as well as some play space. It was fun to use that glow-in-the-dark ring swings. There are some ping pong tables to play. We brought our lunch with us to eat at the table under the tent. They had bar as well. Location wise, it is great, you can use facilities inside the convention centre while you are there. Looks like the city of Boston is really well designing otherwise 'nothing there' empty spaces throughout the city in recent years. Great job! read more

Over-rated. I'm just not a fan of the Seaport District, I guess. It's just so sterile and oversized. Doesn't feel like Boston.

I went during a visit to Boston. We were planning to go at night when it was dark and the swings light up, but we parked in the lot right across the street in the morning and decided to check it out early too. It was nice they had games and sitting areas and the swings. Some of the summer camps bused some kids into play and they all looked very excited to play there, and swing on the swings. It wasn't crazy busy earlier in the morning but it was nice and relaxing. We never ended up going back at night we had a lot of other activities that day and ended up feeling tired, but it looked like a good sized crowd was there. From what I hear there was a wait and a line for swings at that time as well. It's definitely a place to visit, no matter what time of day you can have fun there. read more

So not happy with what I thought would be such a great experience! I went to Lawn on D tonight (Thursday) with 4 other friends. We were all visiting from Cape Cod and since most of my friends have been there and said it's really nice, I thought was a good idea to check it out. We got there at 9:35 and as soon as we walked in we were told to leave because they were closing. I told the guard to at least let us take one pic each on the swing since we weren't from town and he could care less and kept telling us to leave. I again insisted for just one picture and that we would only take a couple of minutes, but his answer was still no. As soon as we went back to the car and I looked at the clock, it was showing 9:41 and I thought it was a very awkward timing for a place to be closing. Usually its at 9:30-10 or something like, not like 9:35 or 9:45. So i yelped The Lawn on D and showed that they're closing time was actually 10pm on Thursdays, not 9:35!!! I was very very disappointed at the whole situation! read more

A wonderful spot to relax and chill in an increasingly urbanizing Seaport District.
