The Lazy Lobster was a favorite for years. I heard about the new owners, and the renovations & I was looking forward to trying it out this year. Visited on Sunday July 12th, 5:30 pm. Was able to get a same-day reservation on OpenTable, which in retrospect is probably a bad sign.. Arrived at 5:25, hostess (not super welcoming) sat us right away. And we sat. And sat. And sat some more.. Servers were passing by and no one acknowledged us at all except for the bus boy who gave us water when we first sat down. We were sitting outside on the patio on the side of the building; we were next to other tables that also have people sitting there. Bus boys and servers must've passed us 20 times and just ignored us. After 20 minutes! I was finally able to get the attention of a server and let her know that no one had even taken our drink order yet. She assured me that our server was coming. Another 10 minutes went by, the same server realize that we were STILL waiting, and seemingly went inside to tell our server to wait on us. She finally arrived (we had been waiting 35 to 40 minutes at this point), no apology. Ordered our beverages and also told her we are ready to order food. Ordered a shrimp cocktail, the cheese garlic bread, a ribby roll and hot buttered lobster roll. And then we waited. Lol Drinks and Shrimp cocktail came right away. Shrimp was fresh, cocktail sauce good. Garlic bread never arrived. Entrees took a long time. We heard another server telling the table behind us that the kitchen was out of french fries. They never told us that but when the ribby & lobster rolls arrived, there was just a very small amount of fries on the plates. The lobster roll comes in three sizes now all varying degrees of expensive.. They do still have the same fresh baked rolls which is really what makes this lobster roll so good. The lobster was fresh, Unfortunately, I did not see any tail meat at all. It was all claw meat. I did look inside at the renovation, it's very nice, looks a little bit fancy for this type of beachside establishment. I mean, it looks great, but it was fine the way it was. Now it feels like they had to raise prices on the food to help pay for the remodel. The food that I had was still really good. I still do love their lobster rolls - those rolls really makes it for me. However they need to make sure every roll has tail meat too. The service is the real issue here. The hostess and servers and bus boys all look to be pretty young. They were pleasant enough, but seem to have no direction or motivation. I think with the right person managing them they'd be fine, but apparently they do not have a competent person in charge of these servers. There is absolutely no excuse for Customer sitting there for 25 minutes before they're even acknowledged. No apology, didn't get everything we ordered, yeah, just not a good experience.. with this type of service, they are not gonna stay in business long. At this point, I think they had been open about a month? Maybe they still need time to fully drain staff and get it together? I really hope so. It wasn't even super busy. I am willing to pay more for good food and service. But this was really pretty unacceptable . read more

I had been eagerly awaiting the seasonal opening of this once-great neighborhood spot. In fact, when I bought my home just two blocks away, knowing I could walk to The Lazy Lobster was honestly a small factor in my decision. Their lobster bisque and lobster rolls were a true treat, worth traveling for. I still remember my son walking in wearing a Staples lacrosse shirt, and one of the owners immediately saying, "Staples in the house!" We found out he was an alumnus. The owners were genuinely passionate about great food, and it showed. The following year, after I bought my house, I noticed the restaurant had been completely renovated. I asked if it was under new ownership. They said yes, but assured me the chef was the same. One spoonful of the bisque confirmed it, the recipe hadn't changed. Fast forward to this season. I couldn't wait for them to reopen. The delay made sense since they had expanded into the former paddleboard shop and undergone another major renovation. So I eagerly ordered my favorite lobster bisque... to go. A bowl was $18 because it was listed as "market price." Since when is lobster bisque market price? I figured maybe it was loaded with chunks of lobster. It wasn't. That alone wouldn't have bothered me if the soup had still been the incredible bisque I remembered. Instead, the recipe was completely different. It seems the renovation also meant losing the original chef, and unfortunately, that chef was the real reason many of us kept coming back. I'm genuinely disappointed. The original Lazy Lobster felt like a place built around serving exceptional food. This new version feels more like an operation focused on recouping a renovation investment through higher prices. We've lived in the neighborhood for 20 years and finally decided to walk over for the first time... I'm going to be brutally honest here; $60 for a lobster roll is some serious work. To be fair, I didn't ask what the $MP was before ordering two of the 8oz rolls, but had I known they were $60 each we would have chosen a different items. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. We ordered the two lobster rolls, a steamer bucket, a cup of bisque, and a kids mac & cheese, 3 mixed drinks and a bottled beer. $240 total. I tipped $50. One was a lobster salad. $36 for lettuce and 2 ounces of lobster meat. Very disappointing. Bill with tip for bar was $195. How do u put 2 ounces of lobster in a dinner salad that was just lettuce??. I called to ask after dinner and they confirmed that is how they do their lobster salad. I'm very disappointed to write this review. I have been here many times in previous years and have always left happy. This summer however, it is NOT the same. They have upgraded the interior dramatically. The food was good, the drinks were fine, but I paid $167 for 1 salad, 2 six oz. lobster rolls and 3 cocktails - OUTRAGEOUS. I am not afraid to spend money, and we dine in Manhattan (you can read my other reviews) but c'mon, this was ridiculous. Our waitress was a very nice young lady who provided good service so add in a 20% tip and boom - $200 bucks to sit on the sidewalk at the foot of Naugatuck Ave. There are far, far nicer restaurants to spend that kind of money. read more

The lazy lobster just reopened 6.19.26 and we were just in time to be the first customers. Food was excellent, still the best lobster roll I've ever had! Lobster tacos were great and the chicken nuggets got a rave review from my niece "these are even better then Chick-fil-A!". The staff were so friendly and we were able to joke and laugh with them. My girlfriend & I came here after a long day at the beach and we were each craving a lobster roll. Pretty simple to order, the waitress looked at me crazy when I asked to put garlic on the roll so I think any substitutions are not a thing here. The lobster roll was more like a wedge sliced open on top with lobster stuffed in. It was awkward to eat.. do you savagely stuff it in your face (that's what I did) or do you daintily pick at it with a fork and knife (what the people next to us did)? It tasted really good but definitely on the pricey side- $78 for just 2 lobster rolls. Service was quick and we were in and out in probably 30mns tops. My family and I actually came twice in one week. Overall, I'd suggest at least one visit. The restaurant was out of everything except for lobster rolls at 6pm on a Sunday. Lucky for us, those were quite good. They were about $35 (not quite sure but basing this on total bill) and comes with excellent bread, butter, and a small coleslaw. Pure lobster! The lobster in these lobster rolls is extremely fresh and they use choice pieces (it wasn't filled with what I refer to as the "foam" end pieces of the claws). Usually when you get a lobster roll, the roll is almost invisible, a functional vessel to hold all that buttery goodness, but at the Lazy Lobster, the roll is part of the intrigue! It's a substantial, fresh, split open and I want to say grilled (not sure if it actually is), almost a Portuguese type roll. Really delicious and buttery. There is no inside seating. The outside seating is comfortable, however the people who drive by inconsiderately, almost seemed purposefully, rev up their engines as they pass. It's seriously a detractor from what would otherwise be a perfect stop, which is why I deducted a star. Luckily there is a beautiful, but private, beach you can observe long enough to regain your zen. The staff was pleasant and helpful and they brought our meals outside to us. Also worth noting they had homemade lemonade that was perfectly not too sweet. We love the lazy lobster! We've gone a few times now when we visit the walnut beach area!! They make their baguettes in house according to their sign and the staff is always friendly! We felt as though the food was delicious the only thing that threw us off was the bread/coleslaw/shrimp ratio for the shrimp poboy! We loved the flavor of the shrimp but felt there was too much coleslaw and wish the baguette was cut in half so we didn't have to try and pick it up as whole seeing its massive and very messy! Best lobster roll ever had and I'm a lobster fiend. The bread is a fresh baguette with drawn butter on the side - none of that soggy hot dog bun; baguette really elevates the experience. Side of potatoes was amazing. I arrived during a very busy time on Sunday and the service and mood was still fun and chill. Servers all smiles and friendly with everyone. The Lazy Lobster is your typical hole in the wall place; an absolute gem. I love discovering these types of restaurants. The owners were friendly and very helpful. They guided me through the menu and were patient with my questions. The ribs were tender and flavorful. I would've liked the option of having the sauce on the ribs rather than on the side but they were delicious nonetheless. I also tasted the the Lazy Lobster slaw and it was delicious; crispy and not too creamy, it tasted fresh. The seasoning on the roasted potatoes was just right. Others in my party had the lobster roll and were pleased with it. We took home and order of clams and mussels and those were a hit.
