This place is very inconsestant, one day you get a great bang for your buck. The next it's almost as if they wanted to see how long they could make their supply last. (We usally get acai bowls.) I really didn't want to have to do this, but Its about time I change my review! Giving it 2 stars now because this is about the SIXTH+ time I've gone there during posted business and she is closed! One of the best ways to lose business is to close before closing hours! My mom tells me all the time that she also stops in around 4:30-5:00pm and is closed. She already lost my mom's business, a friend of my mom's business, and I think she's about lost mine too! Posted "summer hours" are till 7:00pm. Always closed WAAAY before then! Sorry girl, but I gotta do it. Tired of driving a ways just to go there and wasting my time, money, and gas! If u can't stay open till 7pm like posted, then put up earlier hrs! Instead of handing out ur business card and telling people to call/text u to see if ur still in during POSTED HRS....doesn't matter, we r looking forward to getting ur stuff, and when ur not there (either way) when ur "supposed to be", u lose people, it's kind of a let down. For a place called the Lean Bean, the coffee was terrible. I heard about their acai bowls and that must be what they are know for because I wasn't impressed with their coffee or customer service. When the girl walked back to my car I told her it was my first time there and she didn't say anything... Then when I tried to order a latte with honey in it she said we don't have honey... Ok, what "coffee" place isn't armed with the basic coffee condiments? Asked for recommendations and she said, "I don't like coffee." I settled for a latte with a little sugar. Won't be returning because the coffee sucked and all of the girls were rude. The only reason for a second star is for the drive through factor. read more

Ok so these girls totally make my morning, they're funny and personable and not anything like the dry, monotone starbucks window chicks. The acai bowl with peanut butter is probably one of the best things you will ever eat. Seriously, I feel like I'm eating dessert for breakfast, and who doesn't love sinning in the morning... ;) The coffee is excellent and the Chai is really good too. The only thing that sucks is the line -- hard to get more than a few cars in line at a time because of location, but other than that -- it's a great morning pit-stop! read more

I used to only get açaí bowls from a shop in OB but after going to the Lean Bean it is my favorite! And I love that I don't have to make the commute from Lakeside to OB anymore. The lean bean has a variety of drinks, such as smoothies, blended coffee drinks, and açaí bowls. I get their peanut butter açaí bowl religiously! I would say that the bowl size is not as big as other places (I think those are excessively big anyways) but it's not a problem for me as it is the perfect amount because the peanut butter is filling. I highly recommend this place because the service and food is great and the prices are too! read more

I have never been here in the am or on a weekend .. but during the work week days, I have never had a wait. But I would definitely be willing to wait for their amazing acai peanut butter bowl. I live and work in Orange County ... but when my job needs someone to drive to San Diego County ... I always volunteer and make a detour through Santee. The bowls are filling, great value for the price, and tastes fresh, healthy, delicious. Two months ago, I had a bowl that tasted like it was pre-made and frozen, but yesterday I gave it another try and it was back to the usual level of perfection. I ordered an almond vanilla latte which tuned out great, the expresso was delicious and the vanilla was just right. The only downside is the yogurt and fruit that was used in my bowl wasn't very fresh. The yogurt was a little watery and from the taste of the fruit it was like it was canned or something.. I love the acai bowls here. The size is pretty good for $6. I like the fact that they put a decent amount of peanut butter and that they give you the option as to whether or not you want to put the agave syrup on it. Personally it's sweet enough without the agave syrup.
