Sheldon's Service Station in downtown La Mesa is such a great spot for breakfast. I grabbed their breakfast sandwich and it was fresh and really well made. The cappuccino was excellent too--smooth and rich, and it's from their own coffee blend that Cafe Moto roasts locally. You just order quick at the counter then head out to this huge patio right in the middle of town, with the farmers market happening across the street. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and it was nice seeing the owner and his family out there checking on everyone. You can tell it's a place that cares. First time visiting. I liked the outdoor covered seating. It looks like a popular spot for the locals. I saw many families/moms with baby's in strollers, so it is very accessible. It was a little bit louder than I expected, but not horrible. Service was good and friendly. I personally liked the reduced menus options. Gives them a better chance of providing quality over variations. I enjoyed my breakfasts sandwich on a croissant. It seamed fresh and fluffy. My husband had the Benedict, which he enjoyed as well. My favorite thing was the dirty chai. Possibly my New favorite dirty chai. It had great chai flavor that didn't get overpowered by the coffee. We also got an apple strudel. It was delicious, it's was fluffy and gave me the impression it was fresh. Another good point for me was that it wasn't too sweet. If you are in the area, I definitely recommend. I met some friends here for breakfast on Sunday morning. It was busy, but not overwhelmingly so. We ordered at the counter, took our number, and then had no trouble finding a nice table under the covered seating area. Some planters or other decor on the patio might liven up the space a bit. Sheldon's has a large breakfast / brunch / lunch menu, offers an assortment of baked goods, as well as lots of drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. It is situated in a former gas station, and I love how the space has been repurposed. The service was fine and appropriate. Our food came out very quickly. My breakfast bowl was freshly & simply prepared. The hash browns were a little dry, but the salsa & guacamole helped to jazz up the whole thing. Without the salsa, it did not have a whole lot of flavor, but it was edible, and also reasonably priced at $12.05. The soup and sandwich and açai bowl both looked fresh as well. I was looking for a quick coffee before getting on the road, so I stopped here for the first time ever. First impressions was that there is a ton of outdoor seating. My sister was flexed at work and texted me the question "wanna grab breakfast? It was only 8:30am and even though I don't usually eat this early, I don't miss an opportunity to bond with family! You order at the counter, get a number and they bring your food out to you. They have a lot of options for drinks that are coffee and tea based. For food they have the standard breakfast options, sandwiches and salads. They have a small assortment of baked goods as well. I got the half turkey sandwich and a side of fruit. The bread on the sandwich was sourdough and had a good flavor. It was toasted but didn't come warm at all. It felt like it was toasted a whole ago. The sandwich components were cheese, lettuce, tomato, turkey and a cranberry aioli. I thought the cranberry flavor would come through more but was very lightly there. The fruit was standard mix of pineapple, watermelon and orange. The prices are pretty high for what you get. My meal after tax and tip was close to $13 and the portion isn't huge. read more

I got an the beet avocado toast expecting a thick piece of bread and abundant toppings but got an average piece of toast, average flavors and average toppings. Nothing out of this world or anything. What a gem! I absolutely love this place, even more so because I can walk to it from my house. I try and go every weekend on my day off. My usual is an iced brown sugar and spice latte and a lemon poppyseed muffin. The latte is always consistent and delicious. And what I feel like this place should be famous for is that muffin. THE BEST MUFFIN and it's not even close. I've never had one that's so fresh and tender and moist. It's honestly a perfect 10/10 muffin. I've gotten a breakfast burrito, panini, blta, and baked potato soup and they're all really good. I've been coming to Sheldon's since the first day it opened, huge fan of their blueberry muffins and vanilla americanos.
