It was a synthetic coat rated for intense cold that weighed nothing and scrunched into an extremely small space... exactly what I needed in terms of bulk and weight. It worked perfectly for the first few days until I came too close to dung-burning stove and the material burned while the bottom quarter of the zipper melted. Despite this, I was able to continuing using the coat for my remaining days because I could pull it on like a sweatshirt over my head. During most days on the trail, I had to take it off because I became too hot. This had not been my experience with other brands' coats in similarly cold weather. Nights in the Himalaya were another matter, but the coat was surprisingly comfortable (well, I wasn't literally freezing) when combined with a thick fleece layer. That wasn't what made Cotopaxi so good. What impressed me most was upon my return to the States when I contacted the company about the burn and melted zipper. They replaced the coat even though I'd worn it for a month post-melt; and, more importantly, they had me return the used coat for follow-up testing. I was so pleased that they cared enough about customers that they were committed to stand behind their products--they wanted to ensure we have quality, working products every time we enter the wilderness. I was even more pleased that they cared enough about customers that their research team re-tested the used coat to ensure nothing like this ever happened with any of their products again. Kudos, Cotopaxi and your sales team, for awesome customer service. You have a customer and fan for life!

My pack has never failed me and I have put some miles on it. We have crisscrossed Europe. Been to South and Central America. More places in Mexico then I can remember and a few I don't want to remember. Canada. All over the USA homeland. 12 trips to Hawaii and going again in December. Going to the Havana Jazz Festival in 2017 and then probably to Egypt after that. It's had one small repair that was totally because of my stupidity. Fortunately I learned how to sew when I was young and stitched it up as good as new. I stopped by Wayne's original shop looking for an oversized day pack about 1977. I stopped by often when in the area. The Day & a Half was perfect! I just didn't care for the colors he had on hand and wanted dark brown. He said he would build me a couple, one for me and one for my Wife. I went by a few days later to pick them up and they were beautiful. Everything Wayne Gregory built was a hand made work of art. He took a set of steel letter dies and punched our names into the leather tabs on each pack. Now I understand Gregory Mountain Products is owned by Samsonite and the annual sales of GMP is around 35 million dollars. Thank you Wayne Gregory

Since they couldn't, they invited me to choose one of their current backpacks as a replacement. They're sending it to me right now, free of charge. I am blown away by the stellar service and the way they honored their lifetime Guarantee. I am making sure to tell everyone I know about the way they stand behind their products -- in fact, I have to admit to evangelizing a bit at REI the other day. A woman was trying to decide about a Deva 60 and I stopped to tell her that if she bought it and took care of it, she would have a pack for life.

They're only located in Midvale, UT ~ right next door to Korean BBQ Of Utah. They have really kind and knowledgeable staff, that are willing to answer all the questions, about their products and activities, in the area. They have the latest and greatest gear available, in so many fun and colorful styles (because that's essential, when you're outdoors lol). And, since so many of the products are out, you can actually touch and feel them! My favorites were these glow in the dark constellations sleeping bags and tents. They have accessories galore, clothes and great backpacks! Everything is so fun and colorful too! It was like outdoorsy eye-candy, I swear! Lol Since it was all in this one shop, you're not too overwhelmed, like the bigger stores. They're still new, so go give them some love Utah! Have fun!
