The Friday fish fry, all you can eat cod, is the best in town. The rest of the menu is questionable, overpriced and lacks flavor. Burgers only come well-done. Skip the dips. But the fish fry is delish, and you can eat out on the deck. Don't come too hungry, because you'll be waiting a long time for service. No matter when you come. The food does come quickly once you order. But sit outside, bc the crowd is older locals who don't realize how rude it is to stare. Feed some ducks or fish while you wait. read more

Visiting from out of town. Were recommended this place. We walked in and were the only ones there to eat. Just stares from the locals at the bar. Pretty dirty and outdated place. Great atmosphere and right on the Wolf River channel. Situated a short distance from the Shawano Lake sandbar area. Gotta like a place you can float up to in the boat. Pretty good bar food at reasonable prices. As far as the fish fry goes the double perch plate is huge at a respectable $14. Sitting on the patio and watching the boat traffic pass by while having a cocktail or two is a nice way to spend a few hours. They take advantage of "Sunday Funday" by having afternoon bands all summer long. Others have noted the service is a bit on the slow side. I've found that to be the case on many visits as well. When I'm in the Shawano area I'm on "up north" time so I generally roll with the wait for my meal by having an extra cold one. read more

After a long day of white water rafting on the Wolf River, the group I was with needed something to drink and boy were we thirsty. The issue, we had a 9 year old with us. When we voiced our predicament in the restaurant we had dinner at, they manager suggested we come to The Lighthouse. So off we went. From the looks of the place, it seems that it caters a lot to the boating crowd in Shawano during the summer. They had slips for the boats to pull into, a boat launch and a large parking lot. We went straight for the deck because the weather was nice and we didn't want to sit inside. From what glimpses I caught of the interior, it appeared to be clean and well maintained. The deck is right off of the river that feeds into Shawano Lake. As we sat outside we watched boats drive past. I can't comment on the food, since we had already eaten prior to arriving. We just weren't hungry, but everything smelled good and the items we saw looked fantastic. They had a selection of craft beers, not a huge selection but enough to give the craft beer lovers something to drink. The night we were there they had drink specials on frozen drinks. They were good and the price wasn't bad at all. I was a little disappointed that they served in plastic cups, but that's not uncommon for places that cater to the boating crowd where you have people that may be barefoot or wearing flip-flops. The service was fantastic. Our server was nice and helpful. She even took pictures of the group for us. The next time we are in the neighborhood, we'll definitely give them a chance for dinner. Such a fun place love the food drinks and the staff is great. I don't want to turn anyone off from coming there I have had to learn the hard way if you have a party of more than 5 people Rachel will include the tip which is fine but she doesn't tell you and I gave her at least an extra 25%. Worse service ever!!!! As a party of 3, we waited 10 minutes to have our waitress bless us with her presence. She brought our drinks to us and we didn't see again her for 45 MINUTES. We had to go to the bar to get another round of drinks on our own. Finally we decided to cut our loses and just pay for our drinks. We were told our food would be right now and it was. Too bad the burgers were overcooked (asked for medium rare, got well done). We didn't want to wait another 45 minutes and again asked to pay for our drinks. The manager/owner was called and we were told that because we cut our burgers in half (no bites taken), we had to pay for our food or they would call the cops. Nice. We were starving and frustrated so we basically paid the bill to get out of there and get some edible food. Also- Badger fans - the Lighthouse doesn't get the Big Ten network so don't expect to sit (probably get bad customer service) and watch the game. read more

We asked our hotel if there was any place close that we could sit outside and have a few adult beverages. The manager recommended The Lighthouse. Sure was a fun place. Drinks were good and we had a small appetizer. We didn't eat dinner here but came back later for drinks. The bartender, Sam (ka ka) was fantastic! Me and my family are regulars here always grabbing a drink on the boat and maybe an appetizer. I had a really disappointing and unsettling experience. I went with 8 people total. We got a table inside and was waiting on right away, we ordered our drinks and food right away. The place was busy but not absolutely packed. we had moved our party to an outside table and we notified our waitress so she knew and said it was fine. We had sat for 2 hours waiting for our food and in that time NOT ONE person had come to our table to let us know our food was going to be awhile or NOT ONE person came to ask us for drinks. I had gone in to see how much longer it was going to be and she said 20 min. I had delivered our own appetizer to our table and our food was still not there after 40 min. At that point I talked to the owner and said we are not paying for food we never got and told me to get the f**k out. I will never spend another penny at that establish. Know how to run a business, because previous to us leaving i had witnessed another group leave due to the same problems. read more

Nice atmosphere, cozy but a little dark inside. They have a nice deck outside you can eat or drink at. I like to watch some of them on New Years day take a dip off the boat dock. Burrrrr cold! The hamburgers are really good and so are their fish fries. I like going at Lent time because it the only place in Shawano I can find that serves smelt. We went here with a group of 6 for dinner on a Sunday evening. It was busy and they had live music but we were able to be seated inside right away. At first everything seemed fine. The waitress was nice and seemed on top of things. She asked if we would like the kids food out early and we said sure if it was possible. She said no problem. We got our drinks after about 20 min along with some appetizers, which were fine. After about another hour and still no food we noticed several larger tables which were seated after us had gotten their meals. We politely mentioned this to our waitress who tried to reassure us that our food would be coming. Then we noticed people who were seated after we had put our orders in getting their food and we still didn't have anything. So we flagged down a different waitress and asked her nicely if their was a manager or someone we could talk to. She said no, and said she check on our food. After about another 10 minutes went by we got our waitresses attention and she apologized but said she had no good explanation of what had happened. This was over an hour and a half after we had been seated. We politely said we would either like our food or our bill to this point as it was now nearly 7:15 and we had ordered shortly after 5:30. About 5 minutes later our food started to come out. However, it came out in three waves spread out over the next 25 minutes. My daughters pizza was still cold, as in uncooked in the middle. The next wave came out about 10 minutes after, at which point they told me my fish sandwich would still be a bit. After about 15 minutes when everyone else had finished they brought me my fish sandwich. That's when things really got interesting. A very intoxicated man entered the bar and one of the waitresses intercepted him and told one of the others to get the manager. She said the police had already taken him home once. The owner or manager reacted quickly to the man and the police responded promptly. I thought how convienent that a manager is available now. read more

We tried the Light House based on recommendations from local friends. Maybe it was an off night. We went on a Friday evening and the staff was attentive and prompt despite dealing with a packed house. We ordered the perch and brandy old fashions (sweet). The old fashions were watered down and did not come with the requisite cherry and orange slice. The perch had potential, but was very greasy and the breading was Way too salty. Our daughter had a hamburger. Nothing special here either. The bun was actually stale! I know because I finished what she didn't eat. Her side of mozzarella sticks was absolutely awful...I believe they chipped them free from a block of ice at the bottom of their freezer. This came with a foil topped, plastic container of marinara...not at all edible. A Wisconsin Friday night fish fry has certain expectations....at the minimum there needs to be classic old fashions and a mound of perch that has been cooked to perfection. A good burger and decent appetizers are not difficult to produce. Maybe we were there on a rare off night. read more
