Great business. I just got some film processing done here, C-41 and E6, some cross-processed film and some real black and white also. They were prompt to notify me when it was all done. They sleeved everything nice. Even sold me a loupe. My film was really old, I shouldn't have waited so long to process it, but I did have some keepers. I had a photo of Gus Van Sant directing "Milk" on Castro Street and some photos of 2 dead friends, so those images made me happy. I know my friend's family are gonna want to see these. I had some photos of my friend with no hands rolling joints and that series came out nice and sharp thank goodness. And I bought some b&w film also to shoot more. Life is good and so is this photolab. Rob Ritter is an amazing printer. I don't do prints much anymore; if I did, I would not print my work myself. I would take it here to get a perfect print. I use to have two Cibachrome (a process for printing slides) prints done a month. Rob was a master of this process. This paper and the chemicals to produce these truly amazing prints was discontinued almost 20 years ago. Rob now as all the latest papers, metals, and canvasses, you will really be able to see how much better his work is than what comes out of your printer at home. Just made a run out to Lightroom to have a couple of my daughter's images printed for a project. In the past, we've done it at Wolf and more recently, Mike's in Pleasant Hill. Mike's is a sit-at-the-kiosk-and-hope-for-the-best kind of place. "You want that gloss, or matte?". Anyway, emailed Rob ahead of time and made sure he could accommodate my small job while I waited and he responded very quickly that he could. Made the trip from the valley to Berkeley and I'll tell you: it was well worth it. Rob's place is beautiful, clean, and inspires confidence from the moment you walk in. He's a photographer himself, and was able to help a clueless guy like me select the best paper for the project. He knows what he is doing, his prices are excellent, and the quality is top-notch. He also has a nice gallery. I moved from the Berkeley to the East Coast and I still have Rob do my printing for me. He's an excellent printer. I even "tested" local printers in NYC and I was not happy: they offered mediocre customer service, limited paper selection, and I felt like I was just "another photographer" coming in to have prints made. With Rob I feel I always get personal attention (even from 3000 miles away) and he takes an interest in one's work. His turnaround time is great and shipping the prints to me is hassle free. His website is extremely informative and helpful, the FTP site for uploads is beyond easy to use, and he's just a great guy to work with. I have just moved from the Bay Area to Colorado Springs. I talked to Rob and made several test prints before leaving. I am glad I did. I went into several printers in the Bay Area before I left and many of them were great. The difference in my opinion was that Rob loves paper, and is a great printer. Rob is able to articulate what to expect of a final print. If you want the best I suggest you go by and talk to Rob, then run some tests of your own, I will bet you will be thrilled. read more
