As a boxcar travelin' hobo, I like to think I know my sardines, and this place has fine sardines. Fine! Hoo-wee!

Little Fish Company was so nice to accommodate my tight time frame to enable me to prepare the crabs a day before our dinner.

Save Mart - Unsanitary shelves in the meat dept. Makes me second guess buying from here.

If the meat department doesn't step it up, I will not be buying meat from this Smart & Final…read moreanymore. I like coming to S&F. They have really good competitive prices on their produce (3 bunches of green onions or cilantro for $.99). The bulk items they sell come in handy for one of my jobs. Today, we stopped by to pick up some groceries for my sweet friend since she had surgery recently. She was craving chili cheese dogs. First, I got an onion. I went with red because I like that bite vs the white onion. After produce, I picked of some of the Smart & Final brand "First Street" medium shredded cheddar. Not too far away, the hotdogs. I'm not a Ballpark fan, I like to usually go with Nathan's, but today, we are trying a new brand, Hoffman's. These were pretty big. Last but not least, we got some buns. Again, we went with the store brand. The crossiants that come in boxes of 9 are only $6 and I think they are the best grocery store crossiants you can get anywhere. They make stunning sandwiches. I'm addicted to finding out what plants they'll have for sale next (right now, there are beautiful orchids). Last year, they had some of the biggest, prettiest monstera plants for only $40 (I have had mine for a year now). I always like to check out the meat department. They have good deals on chicken. My friends like to his steaks here. However... Today, I noticed how much blood from the meat packages was leaking onto the shelves and it was all over, along the entire shelf. There was so much on the shelves it was disturbing! Dry and wet in places. This is very unsanitary and can you imagine the cross-contamination happening here? People can get sick. Since there were not any employees around, I had to wait until I checked out to let the cashier know. She seemed to know that they were setting up to clean the shelves very soon, but I feel like it should never be like this. You can see from my previous reviews that I do enjoy coming here. Today, I just happen to notice the meat department needs to do some major cleanup. I'm not sure how long it has been like that, but I feel like I have never seen it this bad at any other grocery store.

You know how late at night you want whatever you want and you have just enough time to get there…read more(based on when they "close". So you scramble to get there to get that one item. You're walking up up to the doors w/4-5 mins to go (but you made it on time if they close at the posted) and the doors are locked. WT_?? I manually open the doors walk in and they say "sorry sir we close 5 minutes early so we can leave at 11:00. That's Bull dung!! Then they should post that they close at 10:55. It doesn't have a category that says what time do employees check in or check out. Very disappointed SaveFart but not surprised. Customer 1st service is loooong gone these days.

New owners at Pelican's Roost. Aside from the regular fish and chips etc, they also have Korean…read morefood. My dad and I tried their Bibimbap (it's often spelled this way, but should be spelled as it's pronounced, "Bibimbop" with an O, that rhymes with pop). Well, let me tell you - I wasn't prepared for what was coming ! All of a sudden, two huge stone bowls filled with rice and toppings appeared. And the most impressive part was the loud, sizzling noise coming from it ! Warning: The stone bowls have been heated to a very high degree of heat. Do Not - I repeat - Do Not Touch the Stone Bowl ! Bibimbop (yes, I'm gonna spell it this way here) translates to mixed rice in english. And that's what you do, with all the ingredients, along with the Gochujang (sweet, savory, and slightly spicy pepper paste) that comes in a small glass bowl. The "jang" in Gochujang is also pronounced more like "jong". Anyhow, the Bibimbop served in the hot stone bowl, is called Dolsot Bibimbop. By using the stone bowl, it creates a crispy, crunchy layer of rice at the bottom. And koreans have a name for that too, haha... It's called Nurungji. I'm not sure, if you're suppose to mix Nurungji with the soft rice. Or, just eat it as is, at the end. For some reason, I didn't have nurungji in mine, my dad did. Was it because, I mixed mine up quickly, as soon as it arrived, haha... Y'all gotta come by and try it for yourself. It might be a bit more expensive, than the regular Bibimbop. But, in my opinion, well worth it ! They also have other korean dishes, along with favorite street foods like Kimbop (korean version of sushi rolls), and Tteokbokki (a very thick rice pasta, with a sweet and slightly spicy sauce). As for the interior, the restaurant goes back, at least to the 1950's. It has a quaint, diner like feel, with long bar stool seating in the back, and high wooden seating booth areas, along the sides. And if you prefer seating with more natural light, there's an area up front too, that's partitioned off. Beyond the bar stools, in the back, there's also an old, wooden phone booth. From what decade ? Perhaps from 1940's. Outside, beneath the Pelican's Roost Fish & Chips sign, you'll see written - Koffee Kup Restaurant. I've heard, that was the origin of this restaurant. Anyhow, according to my dad, they have good coffee here. So, come by and try out this place - either for fish & chips, korean food, coffee, etc... They're open from 11 - 8 daily, except Sundays. They're located on Lincoln Way. In my opinion, Pelican's Roost is actually located on High St. Lincoln Way is split in half by High St. So, it's a little tricky getting there. For parking, you can park on the main streets. But, there's designated parking spaces, in the back as well. ps Bob Hope and his family ate here in the 50's :)
