It's like walking into a blast from the past, the decorations are vintage along with the vibe BUT the fish, calamari, mushrooms, chicken and fries were fried to perfection! Doused in malted vinegar and their house made tartar sauce brought everything to life! Don't sleep on this place.

This is a sit down restaurant....I think? :) They have paper menus on the tables like a QSR, but the owner takes your order and brings you your food. We were "greeted" by an adorable toddler, who, in his toddler language, did manage a "Hi" greeting. There were pictures of Auburn covering the walls I do enjoy family restaurants. Standard fish and chips type place, but this reminds me of the southern California mom and poo shops that have random other foods, too (i.e. Teriyaki beef over rice, cheeseburgers etc...but we stuck with the classics). The food took a little longer then expected to arrive, but I believe it's due to the freshness and quality. My BIG pieces of fish came out hot, crispy, flaky, and delicious. I'm not a huge French fry fan, but even they were quite tasty. My wife enjoyed her prawn and fish combo, but beware the portion sizes....even though it was scrumptious and we were hungry, I left about a third of my food behind. Would definitely recommend for a day you want to eat perfectly fried food in a friendly atmosphere.

I'm still on my little fish and chips kick and decided to give this place on Auburn a try. It's not exactly right off the 80 freeway, you'll have to drive into town a little. Thank god for GPS! As you get into the "downtown" look for the big clock tower, the fish and chips place is just across the street. Parking looks to be street parking, so you might have to drive around a bit to find parking, especially on a busy weekend. The shop is pleasant inside and I order a 3 piece fish and chips. It comes out all hot and too hot to handle with my bare hands. After cooling a little I take my first bite. Crisp on the outside and cooked perfect with white fish inside. It could use a little salt, but that's just me. I liked the food here and the prices are about the same as the rest of the fish and chips places, but it's just not as convenient right off the freeway with a strip mall parking lot, but I guess that's part of the charm of downtown Auburn here. Good place to stop if you want to spend some time wandering around Auburn.

REAL FISH & CHIPS! Owners have been there for over 20 years! Amazing fried FISH!!! Old school style interior. Love the pic of Bob Hope and his family on the wall!!

We stopped by around 4pm on our way to grass valley since we need to charge our electric car and there are fast chargers within walking distance! Huge plus! It was pretty much empty minus one other party. Though the menu has lots of items to choose from, we ordered fish and chips (because how can you not when it's in the restaurants name!) and chowder. The fish was yummy! They have a lightness to them despite being fried. The fries were under seasoned so I used the table salt to give them some help lol. The chowder was average. Not a bad mealJust didn't stand out. The prices are very fair.

Cod, scallops and chips!!! very good!!

Visiting my brother. On way out I did my typical Yelp search and decided to try this place. Clean with a lot of different decorations. Owner treated me and I ordered fish, scallops and chips. Food came out hot, crispy, not greasy and the right amount of batter. I keep finding cool old places in Auburn. I'll be back to Pelicans Roost!

Fish and chips plate and the fish and prawns with chips. Love, love .love!!

Best fish & chips in Placer County. Great service and you get your food pretty fast. We also love the clam chowder.

I took a pic of the food menu because it's not online but adding it here for anyone to reference. Honestly we could've ordered food at 9 and Bri was so welcoming about it, we just weren't hungry! As a heads up I'm pretty sure the menu changes monthly or frequently :) The ambience is different than anywhere in Auburn since it's cozy yet a nice/relaxing vibe! Definitely recommend for a nightcap - I'm excited to check out the food!

I had the Central American Spritzer to drink, which was exactly what I wanted - fruity, not overly sweet, and sparkly! Shrimp toast appetizer was so delightful! The curry leaves and chili threads sent it over the top! Carnitas tacos had great flavors and the pomegranates balanced everything really well! The salmon bowl, chicken sandwich and burger were all hits at the table too. The dessert was absolutely delightful! Caramel miso sundae and chocolate cardamom mouse Both were a hit but the caramel sauce was perfection! Two small things that could have made things even better: 1, the water was super chlorinated-tasting. Let's say "the tap water was very tappy" and we all noticed at first sip. 2. The tall chairs look fun but are so uncomfortable for us short ladies with dangling legs. Two very small things, though! Honestly we had the best time and would be back in a hot second! We absolutely loved the service, as well!!

Everything that my friends and I ordered was VERY GOOD. We all ordered a different type of fry on the side and they were all VERY GOOD. This is the kind of place where every thing on the menu is VERY GOOD. It is definitely not the healthiest place you could eat at because their focus is on the food being VERY GOOD. Nevertheless, even the healthy options like the mushroom ciabatta sandwich and the zucchini fries were VERY GOOD. Toasted to a perfect crisp, buttery, freaking delicious. The restaurant itself has a local charm. The ambiance is dictated by what the locals need, not the city people coming in to rent a lake house for the weekend (myself, my boyfriend, and his tech friends). It's refreshing to be somewhere that feels more like a genuine small town tavern than a flashy restaurant that covers itself in flowers and sculptures to be a photoshoot op for you and your girlfriends. (I have done this, no shame, so fun, see son and garden review). I wish I could go here over and over and try every menu. seriously, SO GOOD.

About noon when we arrived & the hostess had a couple tables reserved but sat us in front section closest to the sidewalk. Service was quick and I had a frosty Knee Deep Breaking Bud draft delivered stat! Extensive food and drink menu. Burgers were cooked med as requested quality meat,so tall with all the fixings a fork was required & probably half a ripe avo made this a full meal. Salad was a good starter with arugula & a mixture of course cut veggies with extra blue cheese dressing brought pronto. Fourth visit & only suggestion would be to upgrade the heavy worm, somewhat greasy floor (especially in the entrance). Popular place with live music & some really good house made potato chips , french dip, mushroom & regular cheese burges consumed by my fellow golfer's at the table. Will be back.
