The Korean food tastes great! The owners are friendly and the restaurant has a local feel to it. I ordered a piece of fried catfish and dipped it in the Soondubu. Yum! Haha I highly recommend this place.

It's like walking into a blast from the past, the decorations are vintage along with the vibe BUT the fish, calamari, mushrooms, chicken and fries were fried to perfection! Doused in malted vinegar and their house made tartar sauce brought everything to life! Don't sleep on this place.

This is a sit down restaurant....I think? :) They have paper menus on the tables like a QSR, but the owner takes your order and brings you your food. We were "greeted" by an adorable toddler, who, in his toddler language, did manage a "Hi" greeting. There were pictures of Auburn covering the walls I do enjoy family restaurants. Standard fish and chips type place, but this reminds me of the southern California mom and poo shops that have random other foods, too (i.e. Teriyaki beef over rice, cheeseburgers etc...but we stuck with the classics). The food took a little longer then expected to arrive, but I believe it's due to the freshness and quality. My BIG pieces of fish came out hot, crispy, flaky, and delicious. I'm not a huge French fry fan, but even they were quite tasty. My wife enjoyed her prawn and fish combo, but beware the portion sizes....even though it was scrumptious and we were hungry, I left about a third of my food behind. Would definitely recommend for a day you want to eat perfectly fried food in a friendly atmosphere.

I'm still on my little fish and chips kick and decided to give this place on Auburn a try. It's not exactly right off the 80 freeway, you'll have to drive into town a little. Thank god for GPS! As you get into the "downtown" look for the big clock tower, the fish and chips place is just across the street. Parking looks to be street parking, so you might have to drive around a bit to find parking, especially on a busy weekend. The shop is pleasant inside and I order a 3 piece fish and chips. It comes out all hot and too hot to handle with my bare hands. After cooling a little I take my first bite. Crisp on the outside and cooked perfect with white fish inside. It could use a little salt, but that's just me. I liked the food here and the prices are about the same as the rest of the fish and chips places, but it's just not as convenient right off the freeway with a strip mall parking lot, but I guess that's part of the charm of downtown Auburn here. Good place to stop if you want to spend some time wandering around Auburn.

We stopped by around 4pm on our way to grass valley since we need to charge our electric car and there are fast chargers within walking distance! Huge plus! It was pretty much empty minus one other party. Though the menu has lots of items to choose from, we ordered fish and chips (because how can you not when it's in the restaurants name!) and chowder. The fish was yummy! They have a lightness to them despite being fried. The fries were under seasoned so I used the table salt to give them some help lol. The chowder was average. Not a bad mealJust didn't stand out. The prices are very fair.

Lisa Ford, the co-owner, went above and beyond in every possible way. She designed a menu within our budget, created a customized bar menu, and she and her amazing team decorated, cooked, served, and made the patio feel warm, beautiful, and welcoming. They truly handled everything with such care and excellence. We were able to play our own customized Spotify playlist on the back patio for a fun Yacht Rock Friday night feeling, and their IT/AV support, Randy, helped us play a personalized video of the couple on the patio TV throughout the evening. It made the night feel even more personal and special. The food was truly the chef's kiss, the beer by Brian Ford, co-owner and brewmaster, was incredible, and the service was outstanding. Trista and the wait staff were fun, attentive, and made our guests feel so well taken care of. One of the best parts of the evening was seeing our son and daughter-in-love so happy and surrounded by incredible family and friends who enjoyed honoring and celebrating them. Our guests could not stop talking about how wonderful the food, service, atmosphere, and overall experience were. Auburn Alehouse is family-owned, community-forward, and an incredible craft brewpub. It is a wonderful place for private events, date nights, gatherings, celebrations, or simply a great meal with great beer. If you are in Auburn, driving from Reno to the Bay Area, or heading up the mountain, stop here. They are also a fantastic choice for private events and can work with your budget. They even host private events at their Annex across the street. We are so grateful we chose Auburn Alehouse for such an important family celebration. Highly recommend! I had the Central American Spritzer to drink, which was exactly what I wanted - fruity, not overly sweet, and sparkly! Shrimp toast appetizer was so delightful! The curry leaves and chili threads sent it over the top! Carnitas tacos had great flavors and the pomegranates balanced everything really well! The salmon bowl, chicken sandwich and burger were all hits at the table too. The dessert was absolutely delightful! Caramel miso sundae and chocolate cardamom mouse Both were a hit but the caramel sauce was perfection! Two small things that could have made things even better: 1, the water was super chlorinated-tasting. Let's say "the tap water was very tappy" and we all noticed at first sip. 2. The tall chairs look fun but are so uncomfortable for us short ladies with dangling legs. Two very small things, though! Honestly we had the best time and would be back in a hot second! They put some kind of delicious spice blend on the burger that made it so so delish! and the sandwich was super generous with a side of au-jus. It's not fancy but it hit the spot for a quick road trip spot. We didn't browse too much around the store but there were tons of people shopping and buying their award winning pies. Wish we lived closer! Highly recommended.

We tried a variety of burgers and thought they were just OK but not worth the crowds and 30 minute wait. Chicken pot pies are very good but the beef has some odd seasoning/spice that didn't work for us. The chocolate truffle pie was way too sweet and the key lime was just OK (not enough lime flavor). Definitely want to try more fruit pies as that is the way to go (makes total sense at a fruit stand). The homemade dips and spreads they offer in the market are also all delish (samples are available too). Bottom line.... we will grab our berry pie/s, maybe a chicken pot pie, definitely a dip or 2 + some market items but we'll skip the burger/restaurant crowds for now (but fyi their prices are good). Loved it so much more when it was a not so crowded local fave but good for the Ikeda family. Congrats!!

So there I was... sitting on an oil rig in Alaska, talking to a sheriff's deputy with over 20 years…read moreon the job. He says, "My buddies keep telling me about this place called Pho King Good." Funny part? Even he had never been there. Well, that little story stuck with me. Fast forward a few weeks. My road trip partner, Koda, and I are heading home from Disneyland, cutting through Sacramento toward Grass Valley. We roll into Auburn and BOOM there it is. Pho King Good. Now let's just take a second to appreciate that name. If you're gonna swing for the fences with a name like Pho King Good, you've set the bar about as high as Mount Everest. You don't get to be "pretty decent." You'd better make me question every bowl of pho I've ever eaten. The sign? Absolutely iconic. It practically jumps out and hollers at you from the side of the road. Easy in, easy out. Road-tripper approved. Walking inside, though, I was expecting a little more "Pho King Palace" and a little less "we've been meaning to remodel since the Clinton administration." The marble counter looked nice enough, but the place just felt like it needed a little love. If I owned a restaurant with a name that good, I'd lean into it. Give me lanterns. Give me atmosphere. Make me feel like the King just walked in. Charge me another couple bucks if you have to I wouldn't mind if the experience matched the name. Then came the menu. It felt a little like Dysfunction Junction. They had everything listed, but it wasn't organized in a way that made ordering easy. Give me sections. House Pho. Beef Pho. Chicken Pho. Special Pho. Help a hungry traveler out. The food? Solid... right down the middle of the road. After hours in the car, a hot bowl of pho hits the spot no matter what. Koda really enjoyed his chicken dish, and our vegetable egg rolls with the peanut sauce were decent, although the wrapper was just a touch on the rubbery side. The owner was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely hospitable, which always counts for something. My only real disappointment was this: with a name like Pho King Good, I expected to leave saying, "That's the best pho I've ever had." Instead, I left saying, "That was... good." And then came the plot twist. Time to pay. Cash only. So now I'm walking out to the ATM like I'm making a withdrawal for a back-alley poker game or a dispensary run. I'm standing there thinking, "Well... this tip just took a hit because I wasn't planning on paying an ATM fee for my noodles." I still don't quite understand it. You're giving change, printing receipts, running a business... we're already 95% of the way to taking cards! Overall, this wasn't about whether the food was amazing or terrible. It was about the experience. Sometimes that's the story worth telling. Would I stop again on another road trip? Probably. Because sometimes a bowl of pho, your best buddy Koda riding shotgun, and a restaurant with the greatest pun in California are all you really need. And if they ever decide to polish the place up and make it live up to that legendary name... It might just become Pho King Great.

VEGAN SIGHTING!!! I…read moredon't even know where to start my fellow vegans. This quirky, Vietnamese restaurant in the city of Auburn, CA, has by far the best vegan Banh Mi sandwich. The tofu was prepared so it did not take up the whole sandwich. The pickled radish and carrots had the perfect and balanced of sour and sweet. Of course, can't leave out the herbs of cilantro and fresh jalapinjoes. The french bread was crispy outside but still soft and hearty as you take a bite. My earth was it a 2 thumbs up!!! Then their vegan pho with veggies and tofu did not disappoint. Their veggie broth was perfectly blended and made wonderfully that I was not even thinking this was vegan. The staff was kind and informative. They were attentive and friendly. Then comes the merch. If you like a play on the word Pho, then come and check out their shirts for sale. All I have to say is "Life is Pho king good." With this said, another gem in Auburn, CA.
