2 Hermanos is an "all about the food" experience. Carlos, took amazing care of us. Based on the prior carnitas reviews, I went carnitas burrito bowl and my wife went carnitas flautas. Their carnitas were wonderfully cooked and seasoned. The burrito bowl was a hit w fresh avocado slices, bell peppers, onions, black bean, lettuce and tomato. Super fresh and clean. Strong recommend! My wife loved her flautas which were perfectly cooked. Mom went veggie taco which was huge. She loved it. Very cool salsa bar and multiple soft drinks to pick from. Sports bar area looked very nice although we didn't test drive it. 2 Hermanos is now in our rotation!!! Lots of interesting menu items caught our eyes. read more

I'll start with the good... The place is clean, gal working the counter was pleasant, open spacious seating, great self serve salsa bar and fresh toasty tortilla chips. Ok now here's where it went bad...ALL BAD!!! Ordered the fish taco plate, flautas (chicken) plate and a chimichanga. Wanted to try a few staple items and see how it goes. Ugh...it went so so wrong!! Chimichanga was soggy and not the least bit crispy as it should be. The outside had zero color and no crunch. It was as though it just sat in some oil to soak up but no actually frying took place. I ordered it with asada and received a bean and cheese burrito with specks of asada. Ehh, not what I was expecting or accustomed to but let's give it a try...IMMEDIATE NOOOO!!! I can't identify what it was but the flavor was sweet and the melted cheese had an overwhelming odor like it was old or moldy. I'm not sure, I just know that I immediately said no and pushed it away. The chicken flautas were next. Now these had a nice brown crispy outside but completely flavorless dry shredded chicken on the inside. The fish tacos were the only thing I would deem edible. I'm not a fan of grilled fish tacos but these actually had some flavor. $70 later we were still hungry, disappointed and wishing we would have listened to the neighbor who said "eeehhh there's better places for Mexican food" when we asked about 2 Hermanos. Ok so this place is great! We rolled in for a late lunch on our way through town and let me just say, they were super fast, super friendly, tasty and fresh! It's a cute little counter service spot with a CHIPS AND SALSA BAR! Lots of fun and yummy salsas to try and unlimited chips, as long as you're willing to refill the basket yourself. Yes please, sign me up! They were also super affordable which I appreciate. I had their small fish tacos and they were totally loaded with fish. Not deep fried and greasy, oh no, perfectly cooked and flakey fish. I really enjoyed coming here. First time. The enchilada was actually full of meat (surprisingly as I've had some pretty sad ones). The chile relleno was good and full of cheese. But I'm a sucker for chips and salsa -- the salsa bar is where it's at! They had a variety of salsas, jalepeños, lime slices, and more. The chips were actually pretty good and didn't taste like cheap, lame store-bought chips. The one complaint is I got the horchata (from a dispenser, so that's my fault) and it was both ridiculously, overly sweet and tasted like it came from a pre-mix powder. So you likely want to stay away unless they start making their own :) They also have a bar, though we were there for lunch so we just grabbed a table. It's convenient and easy to get to off Auburn-Folsom road. Their customer service was good. Nothing to complain about. It was a quiet Wednesday lunch so I don't know what it's like at night or on weekends. read more

Last summer, with little fanfare, 2 Hermanos Jalisco Grill became the latest Mexican restaurant to enter the Placer County dining scene. During the last few months, this fine restaurant has achieved a reputation for serving delicious Mexican food, and offering fine dining, in Auburn, CA. As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the order counter and the video monitor that displays the menu. 2 Hermanos Jalisco Grill operates on what I refer to as the "taqueria format" in that you check out the menu above the order counter, make your selection and pay for it. In return, you'll receive a number, and then you seat yourself at any available table. When your order is ready, it will be brought to you by one of the friendly and accommodating staff. A tip jar is at the counter, should you choose to tip your server. On the other hand... should you seat yourself at a table, or the bar - like I did - you'll be treated to full restaurant and bar service. Be sure to tip your host or hostess! The main dining room is very spacious and furnished with tables, that can be pushed together to accommodate large groups. The dining room exhibits a "sports bar" feel, as there are several video monitors tuned to sports programs. The all-you-can-eat chips and salsa bar is the centerpiece of the dining room, where you can help yourself to some of the best deep fried tortilla chips and salsa in town. From the "Plates" section of the menu, I went with "2 Fish Taco Plate." All "plates" served at the restaurant come with a small salad of shredded lettuce, a slice of tomato, sprinkled with cheese, with Mexican rice and refried beans. Such a feast for lunch! Each taco started out with two medium size corn tortillas, lightly toasted so they were soft and delicious, to hold the fish and the toppings. Fish was - I think - tilapia and cod, and it was seasoned and grilled to perfection, with just a little "crust" on the outside, and tender, white and juicy inside. Each taco was topped with diced white onion, shredded cilantro, with a sprinkling of shredded Mexican cheese, and, what "assume" to be a house sauce, on the "Jalisco" side of things. Delicious! Each bite was simply delicious, as each fish taco enjoyed the perfect tortilla-to-meat-topping ratio. Delicious! Thanks to the two corn tortillas, each taco held together well and didn't fall apart as I enjoyed each bite. 2 Hermanos didn't skimp on the fish, as each taco was loaded with fish, and made for a delicious, satisfying lunch. I love seafood, especially Mexican style seafood, and in my "foodie" opinion, there is nothing finer than a delicious fish taco. I simply loved the small salad of shredded lettuce, a tomato slice and the sprinkles of Mexican cheese. Such a great "aside" to this fine lunch! The Mexican rice was good, but nothing to drive to Jalisco about, as it was simply seasoned rice which was cooked in a chili pepper sauce. The refried beans were great, and the Mexican cheese that topped the beans added to the total enjoyment. Both the rice and refried beans made for a delicious side to the meal. I absolutely LOVED my lunch of "2 Fish Taco Plate" I enjoyed today! The fish was absolutely spectacular, the toppings were perfect and the corn tortillas held together well and added the Mexican "earthy" touch to the fine meal. The small side salad was welcome and refreshing, with the rice and refried beans making for perfect sides. Such a great lunch! Solid, delicious Mexican cuisine, a great bar, comfortable dining, and a simply amazing all-you-can-eat chips and salsa bar. Delicious cuisine from the Mexican state of Jalisco, and fine dining happens every day of the week at 2 Hermanos Jalisco Grill, located in Auburn, CA. This is some of THE BEST Mexican food I've had in a long time. They have a chips and salsa bar and plenty of choices between hot, medium and mild and they're labeled by spoon color. I had the 3 taco plate with a beer for $15.99. The tacos were street taco style and each had their own unique and delicious flavors. I got carnitas, that actually weren't dry or chewy, pastor that wasn't overly seasoned or fatty, and carne asada which was tasty, but not my favorite of the 3. Luis was our server and he was so helpful and talkative and just made the experience worth the last minute stop! My only qualm was it was really warm inside. You couldn't even feel the fans that were on. But it is between spring and summer so maybe they're still figuring out the system for summer. The food is overall good, though a little bland to my surprise. Menu is reasonably priced for what you get. It's pretty much self-service, with a lot of options, so that was good in some respects. Some restaurants make their chile verde too tangy, but not this place. Very well balanced, rich in flavor, and meat was simmered slowly to tenderize the meat. You gotta try it. Also, the salsa bar was on point, the customer service was good, and best of all they have a bar and beer on tap! I can't wait to go back and try their Carne Asada and Chile Rellenos.
