Wow! I thought this placed would be a good option. Mainly because of their instagram post since most cakes look truly nice, however, I would not recommend to anyone. Truly unprofessional. No sure who there made my friend's cake, but whoever made it was new because they have no baking skills. What I was hoping for was some accountability on your half for the wrong order and the wrong pick up date. Your team has made zero effort to make anything right. This was not worth the almost $200 cost that we paid. The cake was dry and old. The cupcake sizes were wrong as i explained this was very important we ordered the mini cupcakes because the kids can't eat the full size cupcakes. You baked my entire order for the wrong date so we had stale cake (old strawberries pictured on our cake). I even shared at pick up that I didn't care that I paid for full size cupcakes, just please switch them out for the mini cupcakes you had readily available in your display case - and you shared that per your policy you couldn't and that I needed to take the order as-is or pay more for any additional cupcakes. What's the point of completing the order in store if your team will note down the wrong order and the wrong pick up date? Your entire response to my review lacks accountability and more importantly, your response is inaccurate because I paid in-store per your request before I had a chance to review anything over email. Santa Barbara is a small community and I hope other customers see that this is NOT how you treat people, let alone a customer when you're clearly in the wrong. I've been buying baked goods from The Little Things for years. My visit on April 1st was disappointing. To start: The woman at the counter seemed bothered that I was asking questions about the cupcake sizes, flavors and cost. I ended up purchasing a dozen full size cupcakes that were perfectly decorated. Next: When I got home I realized my order was wrong. I was missing flavors I ordered and had flavors I didn't order. Last: While the cupcakes looked great, most were dry and the frosting was too sweet. When your guests leave half eaten cupcakes, it's not a good sign they enjoyed them. Not sure what all these 5 star reviews are about, but okay, I guess this is going to be another one of those reviews where I stand pretty much alone. Not my first time with that, nor will it be my last time either. I'm being generous with the 3 stars, but I didn't hate the items, either. There were just a few issues, and some may just be my own personal preference, so I'm not approaching as harshly as I might normally do. The thing is, I am ultra conscientious about the shelf-life of my own baked goods, so I definitely don't appreciate when items are sold to me by others that are dried out and old... as were the plastic-wrapped brownies from this bakery. The brownie was so dried out, it was hard to bite into. It had the appearance of being recently baked, but it wasn't. I don't know how many days the brownie had been sitting, but it was simply too old. It wasn't a case of being overbaked; it had just been sitting out for too long. They just need to stay on top of their inventory better and check what they're selling. I also bought a lemon bar, key lime bar and chocolate peanut butter bar. The lemon bar had kind of a rubbery texture when biting into it. Kinda weird... perhaps that was a bit overbaked, but I'm not sure. It was off-putting to me. As for the key lime bar, the lime portion was rather grainy... not sure what caused that, but I didn't care for it. As for the chocolate peanut butter bar, I liked that. The peanut butter base was an unusual texture... not sure I liked it, but at least the bar was fresh, and I enjoyed the chocolate / peanut butter flavors together. Last, I bought a German chocolate mini cupcake. Moist, good flavor, not GREAT, but it was definitely GOOD. Thank goodness it wasn't dried out. I think the $4.00 price for the small pieces I got was a bit overpriced. I'd say these were worth $2.50-$3.00 each, but I get it... inflation and all. I honestly don't see myself returning to this bakery. Everything was just okay with some weird textures..... and a definite miss on the brownie for me. It's okay, though... can't win 'em all. read more

I ordered a lemon cake with Bavarian raspberry filling and gave a picture of cake I wanted. The cake was super moist and subtle lemon flavor. I could have eaten another slice. The raspberry taste I wasn't really able to taste but the texture was so soft and creamy. Next time I'm in the area, I will go back for more cake/cupcake. The aesthetics of the cake differed a bit from the inspiration cake pic I provided in terms of colors and foiling placement. However, I did ask for a shorter cake than the inspiration pic. We ordered a custom cake for my wife's 80th birthday. Given that lily of the valley is the birth flower for the month of May we brought some Pinterest pix to show her what we wanted. We had a tasting a month or so earlier and selected final flavors. We picked up the cake on the day of her party and were thrilled. The cake was moist and the custard and raspberry filling were perfect. The custom buttercream was not too sweet and the colors were spot on. The decoration was as good as anything on Pinterest. They sold candles and matches at the register. However deducting a star because the chocolate buttercream exterior was way too sweet and didn't taste that great. Most people left it. Perhaps we should have ordered the dark chocolate option. The gluten free marble cake was good, but not the greatest. Recommend if you need a cake, if you talk to them about the sweetness ahead of time. Firstly, the customer service is top-notch. They're so friendly and easy to work with. Secondly, the quality of their product. Each cake we sampled was absolutely delicious. We struggled with selecting the flavors because they were all so good. And lastly, the reasonable prices. They were far more affordable than some of the other bakeries in the area. They are light, airy and melt in your mouth. I love that they offer the cupcakes in mini form or whole, so if you want to try all of them, then the mini cupcakes are perfect for sampling. They make these daily, so you don't need to order them unless you want a specific flavor or amount for a special event. After eating the cupcakes, I knew that I would order my son's birthday cake from this bakery. I placed my order online, which was very simple to do, but the hard part was choosing the flavor of cake, filling, and icing. Mind you, my son likes any cake so I knew whatever cake I ordered he would be happy with. I decided to order the 6-inch mocha cake with Bavarian cream filling, fresh strawberries and whipped cream icing. I was able to customize the cake online by choosing a decoration, color, and wording. Due to COVID times, and not being able to have large gatherings we had a safe celebration at home. Hence the reason for keeping the cake décor simple. The cake was perfect in every way! The whipped cream icing was not too sweet, the mocha cake was moist and flavorful, and the filling was creamy and light. This is the type of cake you could eat without your teeth hurting from the sugary sweetness of a typical store-bought cake. The shop is located on the Mesa and is small but works well. The ordering process is easy and there are a variety of options to choose from. We typically order the same size cake each time and it'll easily serve 6-8. I believe that The Little Things also makes wedding cakes but cannot comment on that. I'm sure they're beautiful! You're not gonna see pricing on par with grocery store bakeries, but the extra cost is well-justified in my opinion. They are the best! Jo-Jo, you're awesome! He is very accommodating and understands the importance of cake! And it's...so good! For the zero to two times a year I need to order cake, I won't go anywhere else. Last time it was a chocolate cake with a whipped cream layer in the middle and with a mocha buttercream icing. They will also make it look pretty by various means if you're into cake decorations, but honestly, I would not have cared if it was made to look like a cow pie...ridiculously good. They do ask to give them 48 hours notice, as time and care does go into it. Very reasonable. There are typically a couple cakes - along with the best peanut butter bars I've ever tasted - in the pastry display, if you did not know that you needed a cake 48 hours prior to whatever occasion warranted it, so it's worth a shot if it's last minute. read more
