I found this…read moreplace on Yelp, but there weren't many recent photos, reviews, or an updated menu, so I decided to give them a try--and I'm so glad we did! I called to ask about their hours and whether I could place a to-go order. The lady who answered was incredibly kind and patient. This was our first time ordering, and I sent my husband to pick it up. We didn't realize they were actually located inside the Burnsville Mall food court because the address online led him somewhere else. He called, and the same sweet lady happily explained where they were. Even though we ordered about 30 minutes before closing, they were so understanding and never made us feel rushed. We ordered the catfish meal, KO sauce chicken wings, beef rib tips, and banana pudding. The fried catfish was BUSSIN'. Even after a 30-minute drive home, it was still hot and crispy! The KO sauce wings were delicious too, and next time we definitely want to try the lemon pepper flavor. My two favorites were the beef rib tips and the banana pudding. The rib tips were so tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. And the banana pudding? Oh my goodness... I'm drooling just thinking about it while writing this review. It even came with a cookie on top! My baby girl was kicking the whole time--I think she approved too. The meals also came with collard greens and mac and cheese, and both were tasty sides that completed the meal. Most of all, thank you to the owners for waiting for us to pick up our food right at closing time. Your kindness and customer service meant a lot, especially for first-time customers. If you're craving comforting soul food, don't let the lack of online photos stop you. This hidden gem is absolutely worth checking out, and we'll definitely be back!

The greens were cooked to perfection and I got hot sauce to put on top because it made it even better. I licked my fingers like a child after polishing all of the chicken off the bone. I don't like Mac n cheese but they make a good Mac and cheese! This is saying a lot because I HATE Mac n cheese but wanted to see if they could change my mind. The drink selection is amazing and they are canned so you know they are and not from a dirty old machine. The special sauce I got on the side per recommendation was hands down one of the best dipping sauces I have ever had. The banana pudding was amazing and smooth! I will be back and if you haven't been here I highly recommend it!

My dinner was especially good....the chicken fried perfectly...all dark meat the way I like it. The potato salad was not what I expected but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm used to a mayo based potato salad but this was even better with lots of flavor! The corn was also delicious. Everyone was very happy with their dinners. The chicken and waffle dish was also good. Ratio of breading to chicken was perfect and perfectly seasoned. The honey butter that came with it was also delicious. The New Orleans shrimp bowl was great too. The ratio of shrimp, which was perfectly cooked, to rice was good. Lots of great flavor. I think that everyone in our party enjoyed what they ordered. The only "ding" would be the service. We had to ask for silverware so we could eat and had to wait for straws because she forgot. I'm still going to give it 5 stars even though the service was lacking a bit. She was very nice but seemed rushed.

Parking is a challenge. The restaurant's parking lot is much too small for a restaurant of this size, and because it's backed up against hotels, finding a spot meant parking farther away. I ordered the Carolina Summer Risotto (GF) for $21.95 because I love a good risotto, and with very limited gluten-free options, this seemed like the best choice. The menu describes it as saffron risotto with Cajun shrimp, tomato, asparagus, zucchini, squash, arugula, and lemon. What I received was a very small scoop--maybe 1/2 cup--of what tasted more like yellow, sticky rice with shrimp. There was no asparagus at all, and only a couple of small pieces of zucchini and squash cut into tiny chunks. It looked nothing like the photo on the menu. For nearly $22, I expected a much more substantial portion--not something that looked like a food-truck serving in a paper cup from the fair. My daughter ordered the 6-piece chicken strips with fries for $17, and thankfully, those were much better and very generous in portions. The chicken was very moist and, in her opinion, worth the price. The atmosphere was another issue. It was extremely loud, almost to the point where it was difficult to hear the person sitting across from you--even though the restaurant wasn't full. The waitstaff was friendly, which I appreciated, but unfortunately, the 'okay' entree food, portion size, noise level, and parking issues outweighed the positives.

The corn beef frappe was good so was the Monte Cristo but they were just good not great. Both had melted cheddar - not a fan. The pie was much better. My family really liked it. Death by chocolate it's quite intense. You have a chocolate crust, chocolate filling with a ton of whipped cream and you can never have enough whipped cream. At first glance it's a diner with a pie case but check the menu for some unlikely finds. The Wisconsin Reuben was delicious, loaded with thick corned beef and lots of butter and sauerkraut so you didn't even need the thousand island. I wasn't sure how a Reuben would be without rye but the cranberry wild rice bread was the real star of the sandwich. The corned beef hash was a bit salty but I'll take homemade over the canned stuff any day! I had to try a side of their sausage gravy because my southern roots demand it, and I can say it's a decent attempt with good amount of black pepper and sausage flavor. They have an extensive case of pies which were tempting but we were full from lunch. We ended up loving the bread so much that we took a whole loaf home. Service was friendly which was a relief considering we ended up coming in at 2:20 when they close at 3. Next time in the area I definitely want to try the pie and maybe a smelt wrap made with lefse!
