Came here to celebrate a birthday with family. A nice, big space...a little too loud the night we came but that's okay. My dinner was especially good....the chicken fried perfectly...all dark meat the way I like it. The potato salad was not what I expected but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm used to a mayo based potato salad but this was even better with lots of flavor! The corn was also delicious. Everyone was very happy with their dinners. The chicken and waffle dish was also good. Ratio of breading to chicken was perfect and perfectly seasoned. The honey butter that came with it was also delicious. The New Orleans shrimp bowl was great too. The ratio of shrimp, which was perfectly cooked, to rice was good. Lots of great flavor. I think that everyone in our party enjoyed what they ordered. The only "ding" would be the service. We had to ask for silverware so we could eat and had to wait for straws because she forgot. I'm still going to give it 5 stars even though the service was lacking a bit. What a disappointment today. Party of 4 to celebrate a birthday. I suggested the restaurant and was quite surprised by how drastically different this visit was compared to the previous. I ordered the Social salad. It was good but the presentation was trash. I also got a cup of the She - Crab soup. It was also just okay and certainly overpriced. Husband got the Pork Belly Burnt Ends at my suggestion. He asked if they had sauce added to them and if so, to get it on the side. Our server said they are prepared and the sauce caramelizes so no, no sauce. He asked due to being a type 1 diabetic and needed to calculate his insulin. Well, they came out covered in fresh sauce and were too dry to swallow. There were six chewed up bits of pork left on his plate when it was cleaned away. The Texas toast was the only redemption. Lastly the two others shared the half bird entree. Presentation was haphazard and the chicken was visually dry looking. They ate most of it and said the biscuit and sweet potatoes were good. The food alone wasn't bad enough to keep me away; but combining it with the service was. Our server Laura (sp?) didn't make her debut well after we've been sitting 10 minutes. We were there at 5:30 on Sunday. It wasn't busy at all. She was very nice. Her second stop was to take our orders. Food runner came and asked if we needed anything else. I asked for water as my glass was bone dry (I even ate my ice) and others' were 1/4-1/3 full. She said she couldn't bring beverages. It's water...not vodka. Weird. So Laura eventually comes back and filled our drinks and left the bill. She did overhear the birthday happenings and was nice enough to offer a free dessert. She got her cash payment and we never saw her again. Maybe it was the end of her shift? It just felt off. The table next to us had quite a few complaints and had a different server, so maybe there was just a bad vibe with the staff today? Hopefully management can figure it out. Came here with a group of seven on a Saturday around 5 p.m. Knowing it was peak dinner hour on a weekend, we expected service to be a bit slower. Our server was very friendly, but we weren't checked on very often throughout the meal. Food-wise, most of the group (5 out of 7) enjoyed their meals. I ordered the Cajun snapper and thought it was very well done. The fish was cooked perfectly--moist, not dry--and seasoned with great flavor throughout. It was paired with roasted corn and dirty rice, which made for a nice change-of-pace meal. I'm not great with spice and was a little nervous ordering it, but it wasn't spicy at all. If you're someone who likes heat, I'd recommend asking for extra spice. My wife had the Nashville chicken sandwich and felt the sauce leaned more toward a BBQ flavor than Nashville hot. Another friend ordered the same sandwich and really enjoyed it, so that one may come down to personal preference. They're known for their chicken tenders, and one of our friends--who orders tenders everywhere--was excited to try them. Unfortunately, they came out lukewarm and didn't quite live up to the hype. Could've been an off night in the kitchen, or maybe expectations were just higher based on the reputation. Visited 12/11/25. I really love Southern Social as a happy hour spot. It has solid happy hour options and their shareables are perfect. Super spacious, which is nice and doesn't force you to have a reservation depending on when you go. Highlights: -Happy Hour food menu-huge range of selections, fair prices, and we loved each item we got (biscuits, nachos, fried pickles). The fried pickles are definitely a lighter batter and coating and a smaller pickle, so fried pickle regulars may have opinions about this, but I liked that they didn't feel as greasy. -Nachos-we devoured the bbq nachos and one of my friends got them the following week when we visited -Clever holiday drink names/concepts-super fun ideas and we loved the "interactive" aspect of pouring our ornaments into the glass. Other thoughts: -I have yet to find a cocktail that I truly love here. I've cycled through at least like 7 drinks or so including holiday and other specials across different visits and they tend to have stronger more in your face flavors. I'm determined to find one though because I love their HH! -On this occasion we were a bit rushed out towards the end and felt it. I thought it was just because they were busier which is totally understandable, but on a visit the following week when they weren't busy due to bad weather, our table felt this again. We had been thinking of getting more drinks but our checks were out to us before we could consider it. Not the hugest deal, but something to note if you're planning on staying for a bit. Overall, I'll definitely still come back, especially due to the really good happy hour selections and the great food options. We went here on a Saturday afternoon around 3:30, and seated right away. Our waitress was pretty attentive, but slow at times which is to be expected on a Saturday afternoon! All of our food came as ordered and was delicious. We mentioned it was my birthday and asked for a candle to put in the desert, and our waitress happily gave us a candle! She even gave us a free birthday dessert without hesitation. Dined on a Thursday eve. Excellent service but the food was average. Had the shrimp and grits. It was tasty but nondescript. My partner had the chicken (tenders) and waffles. Underwhelming. Not sure if actual fried chicken would have been better but the tenders seemed standard, frozen faire. Waffle could have been cooked a tad longer to crisp it up. Came primarily for the bread pudding which was average. Billed as a bourbon peach bread pudding, I didn't get any hint of flavor imparted by bourbon. This was my first time dining at any of the Southern Social restaurants. I was there for a birthday dinner with a group of 9 that were able to accommodate for. I will say that overall service was slow for a Wednesday night. Our server was nice and gave great recommendations but we often had to ask to order as he was walking by. Let's talk about the Debutante punch that is for a group of 4 or more depending on which size you get.... IT WAS SO GOOD! I kept asking if they even put alcohol in it because I couldn't taste it all- a gift and a curse lol. But overall, our table really enjoyed it. It's vodka, elderflower, lavender and lemon! We also had the cornbread which was the number 1 recommendation. At first it tasted burnt which later I think was the smoked cheddar. Once the honey better was melted I did taste a difference but it wasn't my favorite. I also had the dry rub wings, Mac and cheese and biscuits. I loved the wings as they were crisp and full of flavor. The Mac and cheese was also very good! It was served HOT and creamy. We came here kind of late so the kitchen was getting ready to close but we ordered quite a few things. We got the pork belly.. it was pretty good, had a nice crunch, flavor, and it was tender, no complaints there. We also ordered the wedge salad.. it was not really a wedge salad, and it was absolutely drenched in dressing to the point where it was hardly edible. We also got the shrimp and grits.. it was very ok. Not a ton of flavor, there were like 3 pieces of shrimp in there and it was just not it at all. The service was also very sub par. We understood that the kitchen was closing soon but she didn't tell us that so as we were finishing our food I asked if we could see the dessert menu and she told us (pretty rudely) that the kitchen was closed and even had the manager come over to tell us that. This is one of my in-laws' favorite places to eat when they're visiting us- for perspective, sometimes they'll go multiple times during a week-long stay. As a result, they'll bring me along and feed me sometimes! LOL. (I'm an unabashed mooch. Hashtag millenial life.) But, it's nice to know that if I'm craving BBQ brisket, cornbread, or other southern fare, this place can cater to that culinary whim. They've got a pretty extensive menu, enough so that you're going to have some trouble deciding what to pick cuz the descriptions all look mouth-wateringly good. Notably, they also have some cajun! That said, this place is a bit upscale in terms of its pricing, so it's more of a treat than somewhere my husband and I can comfortably afford going on a regular basis. Your mileage may vary based on your own financial situation. Staff have always been kind and attentive to us when we've gone. Wait time for food has always been reasonable as well. Food portions are such that if you're a light-weight like me, chances are you'll be boxing some of your meal to-go and enjoy later at home. Yay! I think one of my favorite things here is actually the sweet potato fries. They make them so delicious, it's not even a "they're covering up the sweet potato flavor" situation, but rather you will intentionally WANT this over regular fries. I daresay, that's pretty SWEET. ;) When it's seasonally appropriate, there's a lovely outdoor patio you can sit on and catch a view of the lake and folliage nearby. The freeway noise ain't so great, but you take the good with the bad. Just wanted to say that on Fridays we come and sit at the bar , we are greeted by "Kate the Great" she is a new staff member who seriously hustles and is always welcoming, makes a good old fashioned. Service always with a smile even when multitasking with other orders that pop up on her machine thingy. She remembers us which is very nice, we feel welcomed. Came on a Monday, which has a $11 burger special (regularly priced $16.95). The burger was great, and we appreciated a reduced price; there are 4 different burgers to pick from...so something for everyone. The burger comes with a choice of regular fries, sweet potato fries, or coleslaw. It's a hard call; I tried the sweet potato fries. While they were OK, I've had better. My dining partner had the coleslaw, and I'd say the same (it was too overdressed, to the point of almost being soupy). I was disappointed that they didn't have the bourbon slushie, and had substituted a grasshopper mint one. This was a poor substitution (I got a sample of it and passed). Honestly, I really enjoyed myself here! Their "famous" chicken tenders were surprisingly good! As an avid tender aficionado, I know that menu adjectives can often steer you wrong. However, these were well-breaded, skinny (nothing is worse than a fat tender, makes for a terrible bite), and not dry. The fries were hot and certainly passed my standards as well. The honey mustard wasn't the best I've ever had but certainly not the worst either. The only real downside here is the ambiance. It is so dark? To their credit, an employee overheard us complaining about the darkness and said she would turn the lights up but, unfortunately, we weren't able to tell the difference. Hello I had been here once before and all was good. Last night 06/12/25 was a different experience. My wife had the gluten free brisket flat. My wife said the pizza dough was very dense and the flavor was not great. I had the Sunrise chicke sandwich. The top bun was as hard as a hockey puck. The sandwich was very dry since egg on top was well done or hard. The appetizers were good. But the meal lacked a ton. For a $89 tab i would expect more. Service was good! read more

First time trying here and had a decent experience. It's very modern and cozy inside. A huge bar that fills most the space. Their menu lists a southern vibe feel - jambalaya, crab boil, fried chicken, etc. I went for the Bolo Peach Flatbread. I enjoyed the balsamic and pesto drizzle. There was hot honey on it that did make it kind of hot - I wished it was more on the honey side instead but the heat was semi- tolerable (and I don't have a great heat tolerance). Definitely had to take some sips of water and pauses between bites. The peach didn't really add anything to the meal - I was expecting a little bit more of a peach remoulade to really create that flavor but there was just one peach slice per slice so you hardly tasted it. The bread was really good though and had good depth. (Not too crispy). Service was normal, no issues there. I overall don't see myself coming back here though. I felt that it would be a great place for the Eagan mom and dads to hang out in (no offense). The vibes were just off. Mac was a bit disappointing to look at because it didn't look baked (which is how Mac and cheese typically cooked in the south) but after I bite into it, it tasted decent. It was flavorful but kinda reminded me of nacho cheese. . Greens was nothing spectacular, it was definitely not memorable. The pot roast was good. Roast very tender and the pepperocinis gave that crunch to break up that mushy taste. Toast was a bit odd with the meal but it was so buttery and tasted good. It was a great experience. My wife and I were out for our weekly Saturday new restaurant jaunt among the Twin Cities, We had to go south for an errand, let's try Southern Social. I ordered a Size 7 IPA from a local brewery, cool. Great local beer. Our server came by and we ordered a shrimp po' boy and the pulled pork sammy. The runner came by and dropped them off after about 7 minutes. Nice. We didn't see our server for about 20 minutes, not sure if she went out for a smoke break or it was her lunch break, I so wanted to give this place five stars, but the service was that bad. Not rude or anything, we just never saw her. The Po' Boy was amazing, the bread was perfectly soft, yet crispy and the shrimp and remoulade was a wonderful meld. Unfortunately, the fries were almost cold. Please give me scalding hot fries, cold fries stink. Big minus one star. The pulled pork sandwich was good and I upgraded to collard greens, which were delicious, but a $3 upcharge. Boo. We saw that fries were the same price on the side, make that a free substitution. When we first approached this restaurant, I was a little off-put, because it's located in the parking lot of a couple different hotels, and so it almost felt like we were heading to a hotel-restaurant. Luckily, I was incorrect and this establishment is stand-alone. I do suspect during the week, though, they get a lot of hotel guest traffic. The inside is very new-age-Americana restaurant, where you know they're going to have an $18 burger with a fancy aioli, and they definitely have that. I got a pastrami sandwich and my wife got the special for the day which was a Burnt End grilled cheese. Both dishes were good. Our waiter seemed a bit out-of-it, perhaps just mid-afternoon haze, or perhaps a little mid-shift helper. He took 2 tries to get our order recorded, incorrectly gave me sweet potato fries when I ordered regular fries, and brought my wife a bacon avocado grilled cheese instead of the burnt end grilled cheese she ordered. I also found it weird when he asked me about my credit card when he returned the bill for tip/sign. I get it - I'm a middle-aged white guy, so I must like talking about credit cards, but it just feels weird in the context of waiter/patron relationship and I've never had it happen before. I had the French 75, which included the addition of peach liqueur to the standard recipe. The peach was surprisingly okay, but the lack of bubbles was noticeable and not great. Perhaps this was due to how long it took to serve the drink. My wife got the Lavender and Mint house-made soda and enjoyed it. Finally, this restaurant racks on a 3% surcharge which they don't disclose upfront as far as I could tell neither on the menu nor on the restaurant doors nor on the hostess stand. You just see your bill with "Surcharge (3.00%)" on the bottom. Not courtesy "credit card surcharge" or other bogus explanation for why, just "screw you, pay 3% more" I don't think we'll be going back any time soon. I met up a friend for dinner and was craving soul food. My friend suggested this restaurant and it's more bbq than soul food. We met my daughter, son n law and grandson at 1, they arrived 20 minutes early. The waitress took their drink order but wasn't served yet by the time we arrived. We waited for 20 minutes and she was totally focused on one table. We went to the bar and ordered our own, we didn't see their drink at all on the rail. After a little over 45 minutes with zero service we walked out. We will never be back. Horrible service. So much for a family lunch, it wasn't even that busy. read more

I came here for NYE and I was so impressed! We were a group of four and despite it being a pretty busy night, we received good service and didn't wait too long for our food. They have a wonderful food and beverage menu, complete with several NA options. At the table, we got the Shrimp Po Boy, Burnt Ends Flat Bread, Shrimp and Grits and Red Beans and Rice. Everything was SO good! I would get everything again and try more. They have a great selection of southern food with a trendy twist, and they food is reasonably priced. The service was outstanding. We were a group of six rowdy women celebrating a milestone birthday. Our waitress was fabulous. The ambiance was perfect. Mood lighting which was great. I didn't like the Mac n cheese, I found it watery without enough cheese sauce. The collard greens needed more flavor, perhaps pepper? The soup of the day was bland. The seafood soup was very tasty. I enjoyed it very much. Overall I had a great experience and would be willing to try Southern Social one more try and order something different, like a burger! :-) read more
