When I moved to Minnesota over 19 years ago, being from Texas, I didn't expect to find good southern BBQ. Then my wife introduced me to John Hardy's, and we've been regulars ever since. It's SO good, the brisket has a beautiful smoke ring, the ribs are excellent and so are all the other menu items. I love the garlic bread they serve while you wait. The service is always good, the restaurant is always clean, and I leave there stuffed and without hurting the wallet. It's a Rochester gem - if you haven't been, get there quick!

Brisket, pulled pork and ribs special.

By far one of my favorite places to eat in Rochester , always good , the pulled pork is to die for and service is always great.

Combo Meal, sliced ham, pork sausage, green beans, baked potatoe, sour crean, frozen butter. Everything was cold. Everything!

This was the absolute worst restaurant we ate at in Rochester, Minnesota. Everything was served cold. The restaurant was cold. Granted its winter but you would think the restaurant would be warm. Nope. The food was over cooked, greasy, the bbq items tasted of lighter fluid, the baked potatoes we old, they looked and tasted like they were day old, they were so cold that the frozen package butter wouldn't melt. the sides belong in a pig trough disgusting. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone under any circumstance. As we were leaving this establishment, the heavyset cashier was on the phone taking another compliant. He/Him/their choice told the person on the phone to call back and speak with the manager. I guess it wasn't just us this night. Poor service all around. Hope this helps anyone looking for BBQ and what not to eat.

    Brisket and round steak sandwich.

Really great wings and coleslaw. Hubs liked brisket sandwich and crinkle cut fries. I'll try the Jojos next time. We will be back! Sauce is spicy yet strong sweet spices. Not sure I care for it. Had the medium.

Last time we went here it was very good. This time portions were good but The flavor was not there. Everything was kind of bland. Would I go back? I'm not sure. There's a lot of other places to try

The Hardy's Nachos are piled high and absolutely delicious! I chose to get brisket on my order. The heat from the spicy cheese sauce, onions, and jalapeños was a great combination. I was a bit disappeared that there's no cornbread on the menu. Also, no desserts either. I'd still come back again to try other menu items.

    Great special for February 2019

Food was great and fantastic sauces. It's worth the drive from the Twin Cities. I'll be going back any time I pass through Rochester

Service was awesome, he was a one man show! The food not so much, we should have left when they set doughy wet garlic bread on the table.

She was ecstatic to notice this place has outdoor dining. Happy wife - happy life! So yes we ate there(here). Service was prompt and attentive. Very helpful waiter. She wanted the broasted chicken. I said what the heck? Who goes to a BBQ place and doesn't order BBQ. Let's leave! Well, perhaps i said it more politely than that. I'm no fool. But we both decided to eat BBQ Pork sandwiches. They came with fries and a bit of coleslaw for you Carolina people who love to pollute your pure BBQ flavor. Okay yeah... I put it on my sandwich too but that don't make it right. There were sauces on the table to use. Wife says the "hot" one... is really hot! Me? I stayed with original and sweet. The sandwiches were excellent. The fries weren't your average fries you get at a fast food joint. They were seasoned well and were perfect with the pork sandwich. As a side note we wanted the ribs but it was lunch time and we didn't want to spend a ton of money on ribs. We wanted to eat light. Lucky for us, it was 1:45 and at 2:00pm Happy Hour started and we could order individual single ribs. Yes, they made us wait. We finished our sandwiches and ordered at 2:01pm. By 2:15 my stomach told me i was full and I no longer wanted ribs.... but... we ordered them so they showed up a minute or so later..... and even though I was full.... man these ribs were amazing. We only got three of them and gosh, you could taste the smoke on them....They weren't fall off the bone tender which some people like but me? I prefer tender but enough to stay on the bone so i can gnaw them off with my teeth.... they were really good. I'll go back again... after 2;00PM..... and order some ribs as an appetizer to eat while i wait on my Broasted Chicken.

Sweet sauce Favorite side was their potato salad Coleslaw was awesome Beans were good, meaty and pepper taste goin on Also note how adorable the kids menu tray and sides were! The japchae was decent, but not my favorite. The spicy pork lacked the usual sweetness and also wasn't as red as I'm used to. Maybe it had less gochujang or no red dye 40??? What really got me, is our server brought our rice over in his pocket... to be fair, it came in a bowl with a lid. But that threw me off a little... LOL It was super empty on a Friday night. The lobster tail was smallish but ok. It paled in comparison to the steak. The wine was good and the overall food was excellent. The service was very spotty. My server came to the table immediately and was super friendly. Made some suggestions and after I ordered I never saw him again until the check. (He stopped once as he was passing by and asked about the food and then hurried off). There was several wait staff and bussers and none of them checked in with me. I did have a water person stand right next to my side of the small booth waiting to deliver water to other tables.... why? There were plenty of other unoccupied spaces to stand instead of almost in my lap. Anyway, I was surprised that the manager (who was walking around) didn't prompt his floor staff to be more attentive to ALL the guests. After working in fine dining I know it isn't difficult to have a pre-shift meeting and go over customer service. It takes more than taking the order and then being nice when collecting the bill (after sitting there for a good 20 minutes with my empty plates in front of me) Such a great restaurant and the food was superb. Train your staff to emulate the quality of the food.
