Be prepared for 2.5-3 hours of great food and service from this top rated Michelin restaurant that doesn't fail to impress. From the moment you enter and sit down, the presentation and delivery from the servers to the food are excellent and the food absolutely amazing. Be prepared to also spend $$$$$, eating here is like a 5 Star event you don't want to miss if your looking for the best in fine star dining

The food was fabulous. Each dish was complex and surprising. Tasted great and looked elegant. The service was excellent but I still felt that it was a bit cold. I would have preferred a more homey/friendly touch. Very expensive!

We were greeted with a lovely warm and welcoming smile accompanied by a complimentary drink made with limoncello, a very nice greeting indeed. The staff here really aims to please. That can make any meal much better and the overall experience more enjoyable. The staff was attentive, friendly and pleasant. I'd like to take a few of them home. Hehe. The food was certainly tasty, intriguing and innovative. We had a four course meal which was a very interesting salad made with kimchi, a spring roll with a flavorful sauce, a burger made from tomatoes and a nice dessert with vanilla ice cream. Well done! The restaurant itself I would describe as simply elegant. Simply and elegant. It's definitely worth checking out!

After hearing Vartika G. talk about this place when it opened, we finally decided to try it out for a casual lunch. Even though it is sort of unassuming from the outside, &Samhoud Places is every bit grand on the inside. This review is for the brief experience at the lounge downstairs. I intend to do the fancy upstairs dinner thing sometime soon, too, though. As soon as we walked in, we were briefly told about the specialties of the restaurant. Having read a little about the restaurant and the acclaimed chef, I was prepared to be impressed. We decided to get a small window facing table where we could watch people walk by. The menus were elegantly designed, as was practically everything inside. I loved the leather bound drinks menu that also had pages upside down, so it was easy for everyone at the table to look at. I decided to get the famous tomato burger. It came with a side of home fries, and not a lot of them, as you generally get with burgers. The burger itself was seriously delicious. Will try again! The condiments were all made in-house according to the staff, and were definitely great. I also had a salad on the side, which was different kinds of tomatoes and pears and topped with tomato sorbet. The skinny cutlery was cute, too! The downstairs lounge is a casual lunch destination, and also has free wifi. The staff was all very relaxed and friendly. I see myself spending quite a lot of afternoons working from &samhoud places.

Definitely the best restaurant I personally ate in. Great and polite service people, food was very precise and amazing tastes. Chef Moshik came to our table few times to ask if everything is ok, very nice guy. Will definitely be back next visit in town.

Short version of review: Food is just okay (but definitely not 2 Michelin star caliber), service was not good (except for one waiter was alright), and prices are ridiculously high given the food/service that was provided. Long version of review: We were looking forward to this meal very much as it was the only Michelin star restaurant that we made reservations for ahead of time before our travels. *Arrived at 8:20pm for our 8:30pm reservation, was seated immediately, but at a small table by a corner near the kitchen facing another table that was by the window with a beautiful view of the canal. If guests were to sit there, they would be our view. There were nobody seated there so why not seat us there? I thought to myself, maybe because we arrived early and that table was reserved for 8:30pm or 9:00pm?? Anyway, at 8:35pm when they still haven't brought over the menu, I asked the hostess if that table was reserved and if we could sit there instead. The hostess said she doesn't know but will check for us. She came back and said we could sit there. Okay... So we moved and I should be happy with the gorgeous view but not so much Bc I didn't understand why in the world I had to ASK for it. It should have been an option to us if not our table... Because nobody else came to sit at that small table we were originally seated at! *Was given the wine list on an iPad by was not explained to how to use it. There is a "send" button next to each wine. Do we touch send and our selection with be sent to the kitchen?! Asked and the answer is No. Pressing send will allow you to send the info of the wine to your email. *We chose the four course menu bc our appetites weren't that big and the other options weren't particularly enticing. One of the small "dim sum" items came to us and the one they gave me had actually fallen over on the plate. I had not noticed at first but then thought it was weird that the flower was at the bottom, almost squished. Husband swapped his with mine and told me that the waiter saw it fall over and had an "oh no" expression on his face. My thoughts? The waiter should not have served that. He should have went to the kitchen to get a new one. *We could hear the chef yelling at his staff in the kitchen. He sounded super angry. I guess I would be angry too if the staff I hired aren't so bright. But it was a bit disruptive to our meal. Also heard either plates or something else fall loudly onto the kitchen floor. Are we in a Chinese restaurant having dim sum now? *Our four course menu and three glasses of wine costed 400+ usd. Not expensive if this two star M restaurant was good, but it wasn't and we left feeling mistreated, lied to, and played. None of the dishes wow'ed us and quite frankly, we didn't feel like this place is a two M star place and probably not even one.

Most inspiring thing about this place can be found above the toilet in the men's room.

After attending multiple 2 and 3 three Michelin starred restaurants around the world I can say that Samhoud Places is not Michelin worthy in my books. The food was tasty but not as clever or creative as I have come to expect and the service was clumsy at best. I would say that this place suffers from poor oversight. Presentation, pacing and sequence of flavors are not impressive, nor do they follow a theme. Ambience is equally confused...hip for foodies or for money waving clientele? Classic haute cuisine or trying to buck the trends? I don't buy it either way. The menu has a familiar structure and as expectations build disappointment sets in. Do they have a sommelier? I don't know. The service seemed confused when my wife asked about wine pairings. Really? At a Michelin restaurant? Why wouldn't you have wine pairings? Well, it turns out they do but I don't understand why that was that ever in question? Seating can also vary as there are some lofty large tables facing the canal, a row of tight diner style tables off to the side and some in front of an open kitchen. Any choices? No. And yet it can change the experience completely depending on the consumer. Foodies might dig the work of the chefs while romantics want a view of the city. It may seem petty but that is what you paying for with a 2 star Michelin experience. Money aside, I honestly feel duped into a meal that didn't hold up to its end of the bargain. Moshik talks about "Taste has everything to do with a composition of memories" .... Well, this is one that I'll remember for all the wrong reasons. Want a good experience? Think of French Laundry, Alinea, Grace, Inn at Meadowood ... heck even go down the street to Librijie Zusje and you'll get an experience that is worlds apart from this place. Samhoud, I know this sounds generically harsh, but it is uncharacteristic of my other reviews. I also feel obliged to provide some constructive criticism: - don't wait an hour between the first drink and the amuse bouche. This is the moment of greatest anticipation and interest. Nobody eats a whole pizza before coming to a tasting menu. We come hungry and interested. - pick a person who can describe all of the dishes and also know how to answer questions. Ever have the chefs come out to present? That spells passion. - if you have a dish that deserves a table side presentation, don't do it behind of the person you are serving, otherwise, what's the point? If I can't see what you are doing, then just do it in the kitchen. - the butter on the table had a peel-on label. That hardly oozes of 'hand-made' freshness. Make you're own. - wait staff shouldn't look at their watches at the end of a meal. It sends the message that they want to go home and are done providing service. - ditch the coaster-sized print out of what Moshik thinks about his food. It's patronizing. Instead, hand out a copy of the tasting menu itself and a little gift (chocolate, cookies .... even a hand written note) at the end of the meal. This is something I've seen from every great Michelin starred restaurant thus far. - if you are going to feature a dish by a renown artist like Damien Hirst, at least give him the honor of presenting an art piece by the dish or in the restaurant so that people can connect the food with the art. I can imagine a lot of people saying "sure, you are bitching about the service and ambiance, but what about the food?" Personally I liked the taste of the majority of the Autumn Inspiration menu. It didn't blow my mind but my tastes may not be the same as yours and they are also continuing to develop as I experience other restaurants. So how are you going to gauge your meal on what I thought of the sweetbread (which was sublime)? Plus, the menu changes with the seasons, so you probably will be eating a different meal altogether. So, my only advice is to read the other reviews and figure out if this restaurant has the ability to satisfy your expectations before you really decide to go.

And despite ALL of our meals in Amsterdam being excellent, this one may have been the best. We wanted to try Dutch food, not totally knowing what to expect and were blown away by the combination of flavors and textures we consumed. We started with the pickled herring which was served with onions and pickles- fresh yet bold! I'm still thinking about those little fishies weeks later. Then we each had the sampler-ish plates (I forget what it was called). Hers was the vegetarian version and mine was with sausage. There were 3 kinds of essentially mashed potatoes with veggies mixed in: 1 with spinach I think, 1 with carrots, and 1 with sauerkraut. Mine came with a delightfully rich gravy and my moms came with some kind of lighter yellow sauce (I think mustard based). We tried these same dishes at other Dutch restaurants during our stay, but nothing beat The Pantry. The service in this quaint and cozy spot was also excellent!

They have a/c, but in order to feel it you'll need to sit closer to the back of the restaurant/near the kitchen, as there is only one wall unit back there, and they leave the front of the restaurant open to the elements (even in 98+ degree heat).

I found it browsing Yelp, and the name alone told me this was going to be a meat-forward kind of night. Fair warning if you're bringing anyone squeamish about restaurant names: The wife wasn't thrilled about it going in, though the food won her over fast. Getting there was its own small adventure. The place sits down a narrow alley, and our Uber couldn't get us all the way to it, which turned into a bit of a hike. That happened to us more than once in Amsterdam, using the exact address didn't always mean the driver could actually reach the door, so budget a few extra minutes if you're headed here. I normally default to steak, but the menu had a burger topped with pulled pork that promised more meat than a straight cut, and I couldn't pass it up. Delicious. Genuinely one of the best burgers I've had. But the wife's flat iron steak might have stolen the night. Flat iron is one of the most underrated cuts out there, and this kitchen proved it. She was still talking about that steak days after we got home, enough that I ended up buying flat irons from Costco just to chase it. The atmosphere is cool and a little edgy, dim lighting, a lot of character, and yes, some genuinely creepy decor scattered around, including an old doll that stares at you like it's judging your order. It ran loud, but not so loud we couldn't hold a conversation across the table. Service was good, just on European time rather than American time. Getting the check took a while, which threw us off at first, but that's the norm across the EU, not a knock on this place specifically. Pricey, but worth every bit of it. We'd go back without hesitation next time we're in Amsterdam.

We enjoyed some cocktails and beer (ranging from 9.50 Euro to 12 Euro), as well as the Pork Belly and Pickles to start off (21.50 Euro for 300 grams). Tasty way to start the meal. The three of us shared our mains and enjoyed what we had.
